Gillygate Bar & Rooms in York

I had a very nice and comfortable time my room was great and bathroom facilities excellent, overall a very enjoyable experience, being mindful this is a public house with some rooms so some noise has to be expected, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

A nice pub just out of the centre. Good furniture and a real fire. 200m from the Union Terrace coach park

I met my mum for coffee and pizza recently. We always meet somewhere central for coffee and food at Christmas so it was important that it was nice and the Gillygate Pub was lovely! Pizzas were phenomenal Coffee was spot on Great atmosphere Staff very polite Thank you guys at The Gillygate

Stayed overnight was meant to be unsuited wasn't wifi didn't work or heating and noisy till 1am.

Was there today(18/12/24) the two ladies staff could not have done any more for me.

Room not the best but still enjoyed the bar. Friendly bar staff would go again

Another lovely little York pub on the way back to the coach park. Unfortunately they'd been so busy with tourists that they'd run out of hand-pulls. No matter. Nice selection of other beverages.

Listen....if you're out for a big night out getting absolutely gazebo'd, and crashing in the early hours then this is the place for it. Really close to the centre, good service. But....if you want to sleep before 2am then avoid like the plague. I booked as I thought after 11pm it would be quieter... no such luck. Pub is open till 1.30am and then people hang about outside They should advertise the place ensuring you know it's open till 1.30am...as it was SOOOOO LOUD! Also the bathrooms are a state....take flip flops and a dose of penicillin with you

Not sure about the telly but very nice bar staff and decent prices. Such a shame it was so quiet.

Room needs updating , holes in the walls. Shower runs hot and cold.

Stayed in the Gillygate last night, room was exceptionally clean, service was excellent and the pub atmosphere was great too! Will definitely be returning!

Please please avoid this place and do not make the mistakes that I did. Booked this place on booking.com for a night away in York. The photos are nothing like the actual state of the place. The pub and the rooms are disgusting. Hygiene is non existent. I was put in room 6 where the mattress has totally gone, all the springs on either side are flat leaving lumps everywhere. There is a review on tripadvisor from 2019 from a traveller staying in room 6 advising the mattress needs to be replaced. The same mattress is still in that room 5 years later. The walls are black with paint peeling off the walls.

Perfect location with parking and staff very friendly and helpful. Room was only ok, needed some TLC. Really noisy at night as on a busy main road and no double glazing, also get a lot of noise from the pub.

Atmosphere is great. Service is great. I stayed overnight in a single room. The mattress was horrible. Felt like spring coils poking me in the ribcage all night.

Not very happy with this place we stayed 3 days ago no breakfast available and said there was I told the girl in the bar where I had parked only to be told by a girl in the car park I might get a ticket and then went to hand over the keys for the room and a lad was standing outside waiting for the place to open he said it was his second day and the place was shut up , so left the keys with him as there was know one the to give them too really disappointing as it was brilliant the last time we stayed hopefully I won't get a parking fine 😢

Great town pub, with staff who deliver great customer service and have a laugh at the same time, also have loads happening through the week, one of the few places I drink in York

Not suitable for families with children. Unacceptable. The check-in time was at 3:00 p.m., we arrived after 5:00 p.m. and they didn't have the room ready until 7:00 p.m. The state of cleanliness is inadequate, there is a lot of dust and we found the teapot full of dirt and water. In addition, we are 4 guests and they have only left towels for 2 and although we have asked for them, they do not bring them to us. I do not recommend at all. Talking to another guest, he told us that even though he had reserved a private bathroom in the room, the option they gave him was a bathroom to share for several rooms. A disaster.

Sad to see such a lovely old pup not being looked after. The location and free off-street parking are great. No food, even though it's advertised. Basic hygiene is needed. There are rooms and clean linen on the beds, but that's about as far as the hygiene went, a real shame.

Called in just for a quick drink on such a hot day very friendly staff

Stayed here 2 nights during the york races had a fantastic time my friends from dublin joined me both nights loved it honestly

Lovely people and excellent music

Have written a complaint to head of pubs/brewerys regarding a serious incident regarding management/owner but the email wont sent to the address given. So if anyone can advise please do.

Loved our stay at The Gillygate Pub only stayed one night but Everything was great. Our room was in the outside buildings? so cosy warm decorated lovely. Very quiet with comfy bed with lovely bedding lining and good quality towels. Great to have free parking .. Sophia was very accommodating and helpful nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend. We’ll be back 😊

The rooms were absolutely spot on! So clean and tidy, the staff were very helpful. The bar downstairs has a great collection of lagers and cask ales. Very cheap and an all round fun experience! Will be coming back!

Staff are amazing, good drinks offers and great atmosphere, plus karaoke whenever you like, what could be better!!

The room was clean and big, but when I booked the room , no mention about music being played until the early hours of the morning ,

I booked one room for one night . No hot water No heater on . Room very cold and old (mid November) Not sure how they let people sleep in . Staff seemed friendly

Visited this pub last week. Clean pub, friendly bar staff and a large beer garden full of sunshine :). Good beer too.

Stayed the night on a surprise birthday trip from my girlfriend, Julie was brilliant, the room was very clean and spacious, the pub itself was lovely, can't wait to stay again!

Lovely pub, really pleased its reopened. New owners are lovely, really friendly and can't do enough for you. Fantastic beer garden at the back and some great choices of lager on, particularly cruzcampo which I've never found anywhere else in york
