Breakfast and staff really nice. Totally spoiled by member of staff sat in the dining area conducting Teams/Zoom calls on her laptop. Was really LOUD and spoiled the private conversations we were attempting to have. So unprofessional and rude, no consideration for the customer's comfort. I do hope the member of staff either gets an office to conduct her business or purchases a headset in the very near future.

Myself and my husband visited today for the Carvery, we were so disappointed the meat was very fatty and cold and the vegetables were mushy and watery ( tasted like frozen veg) The roast potatoes were rock hard. This is the first time we have been this year and it has definitely gone downhill , we have enjoyed many a lovely carvery here previously to this.

Upon entering the restaurant at 1030 and queing until 1101 I got to the front of the que and asked for a large breakfast to which i was refused as the lady operating the till stated "Sorry no more breakfasts as it is past 11am".. At first I thought she was joking but she was serious. I was made to feel like I was in the wrong and as if I was a burden. Terrible customer service and treatment of a regular paying customer. Cheer up and look after paying customers. I would understand if I was 10 or 15 mins past the hour but I had been in the que for 20 mins. I hope the staff are retrained regarding this and are told to meet customers requests who have qued since before 11am.

Decided to go to the Garden Centre to have the carvery, but unfortunately it wasn't available. Ordered two lasagnes, extra chips and the omelette meal instead. The lasagnes arrived with a limp salad and overcooked garlic bread. Waited another 5 minutes for the extra chips and the omelette to arrive. Lasagne was dry, bland and very strange with a breadcrumb like topping, no cheese at all. Omelette was extremely small, with no taste to it. Cost £37 for 3 of us and we left the restaurant hungry. Extremely disappointed, will not be returning soon, will be going to the Hornsea garden centre instead.

We had omelettes, thinking that they would be freshly cooked. Mine looked as if it was cooked in an egg ring; the onion and tomato weren't cooked, the mushrooms were. The supposed mature cheddar topping was bland and the whole meal was flavourless. I suspect that they were frozen or chilled, then re-heated. The coleslaw was 50% onion, great big chunks of onion at that. My sister's salad was limp and old and the chips were dry and unappetising. The coffee wasn't bad but £20 for two meals was poor value for what we received.

We booked the afternoon tea 24 hours prior to our visit Monday 9th August(talked to a lovely young lady)and forgot to mention we had our little dog coming with us,the staff were wonderful, they had set a table up in the non dog friendly part for our arrival, bless them they couldn't be more helpful moving our settings to the dog friendly area restaurant. They even pushed a couple of tables together for us as there was someone sitting at one of the two tables set aside for dog owners(who didn't have a dog? Plenty of other tables throughout😏)We really enjoyed the afternoon tea, well made and very tasty choices(wish the sausage roll was crispy it was very raw/greasy looking)but overall really worth the price. We asked for more hot water for our tea which was brought by a lovely member of staff who made us feel we were having a special occasion, they even asked if our little dog would like some water and treats.Well done to all concerned we will definitely be back!..also a special mention to the very nice Scottish lady on the till upon leaving the garden centre,so nice to be served by such happy staff, (who also spoilt our dog with a treat,)makes such a difference to your experience going out after being cooped up at home for so long.

This was a post lock-down visit. My daughter, granddaughter and myself called in on a wet Monday after strawberry picking nearby. We were wet and cold and in dire need of a hot drink! We decided to have an early lunch while were there. There is a one-way system in the garden centre and social distancing in operation, and the restaurant is just off to the right of the entrance. It is quite a large restaurant with tables well spaced and it was surprisingly busy for a Monday. Unfortunately due to the weather, the outside area and tables could not be used. We ordered our hot drinks, scampi, chips & peas, a toasted ham & cheese ciabatta with coleslaw and salad, and a children’s picnic bag. Don’t forget to check your table number before queuing up to order! The carvery was closed. Our meals were all cooked/made to order and piping hot when brought to our table. All were tasty and enjoyable. Total bill was approximately £23 so not the cheapest but no complaints. We had a wander around the garden centre afterwards, average garden centre prices, good quality plants and some bargain corners. We even did some Christmas shopping! I would definitely visit again.

Today 6 family members visited here. The staff we encountered were all lovely especially the lady on the till as I jokingly was shouting at my Mother and she took my Mothers side and jokingly had a go at me, this is how staff should be, not false, snobby and miserable like at a garden centre at Shiptonthorpe we visited last week. So 10/10 for this lovely lady, thank you.We visited the cafe and there were no complaints for any of us, I personally had a carvery (don’t usually eat carvery’s) but this one was excellent, everything tasted lovely and the server lovely. The only reason for only 4 stars is that most things were a little expensive, but again not as expensive as that other garden centre.I will return.....

When the meal arrived it consisted of two slices of toasted white bread containing a slice of plastic cheese, a few crisps and a salad which consisted of cut lettice with 4 pieces of tomato and cucumber. The salad arrived late due to a mix up between staff. All for the sum of £5.50. Was not impressed.

This visit was the second time we have been to Gilberdyke Garden Centre and again we were not disappointed. Although the restaurant is not as large as other garden centres in the group, we found the food was very good and the staff very helpful. The restaurant was very clean and plenty of tables available for us to choose from. The menu has a large choice to choose from, all at a reasonable price. For a quick snack I had the cheese and onion platter with chips, my wife had scampi chips and peas and finished with tea for 2. The food was delivered to us very quickly and hot, unlike some of the larger restaurants in the group. There is a large selection of meals on the menu, the breakfasts menu only served until 11 o'clock which is standard practice. During the meal a waitress came to ask if everything was OK with the meal which was a nice touch and the staff are very friendly and are willing to help you if required. As we were finishing our meal we noticed that the Carvery was being set up for lunchtime. As we were leaving we asked a member of staff if the Carvery was served 7 days a week, we were informed that it was only open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Next time we come we will try the Carvery as it did look very nice. Well worth the round trip of 40 miles.

We regularly visit this garden centre for the selection of plants and other gifts ECT and usually have lunch. The new carvery looks appetizing but the prices are too high at £7.99 or £8.99. There is no option for a smaller plate at lower price as at many other eateries. Overall we think the prices are a little high and we would hate it's previous popularity dwindle because of this. We had soup which used to be homemade but no longer. There also appear to have been some staff changes recently.

Today me and my wife visited gilberdyke garden center for our lunch, we have been regular customers for quite a time and have always been satisfied with the food we have ordered. However our visit today resulted in shoddy customer service by members of till staff, when a woman holding a 12 month old baby asked politely for somebody to carry her tray over, while being replied to as 'im too busy', then after a higher staff member asked the young lad to take the tray, he just walked off so another customer in the queue offered to take it for her. I think its absolutely disgusting how a staff member can show complete disregard for a customer and her wellbeing. I have never seen anything like it before.

Meals took approx. 20 minutes, well presented and cheerful service. The burger was served in a stale bun, no tomato, burger was incredibly tough (like it was cooked in a microwave for far to long) chips luke warm and hard (not fully cooked) and the homemade coleslaw looked and tasted like a leading supermarkets basic range. The 2 pie dishes were much better (just the accompanying vegetables and potatoes looked like Sunday lunch left overs (over cooked and grey) the cutlery for al three of us was dirty and needed replacing and cleaning at the table. We lunch with another retired couple on a regular basis and decided to try this place at short notice. We used to visit the garden centre especially for the Christmas display but haven't been for some considerable time. There is a good car park with overflow area and marked area for people with disabilities. The restaurant is a good size with quality furniture and very clean - no cooking smells apparent although you can see through to the kitchen area behind the counter. There is a good menu with a fair choice in addition to the 'specials' board. A 'light bite' menu is also available - and this is where the fun starts. 'Light bites' are priced at c.£5.95 but you can have 2 for £10 - served between 2.30 to 4.00 p.m. There is also a 'loyalty card' scheme - two, in fact; one for drinks, one for meals. More small print: you earn a stamp for each hot drink purchased - but a maximum of two stamps per visit; collect 11 stamps and you get the 12th., drink free. The 'food loyalty card' is only stamped for food ordered from the 'specials' board - oh and 'lite bite' meals don't count either. So you can see the reference to a 'fun lunchtime' - by the time you've sussed all this out, you've probably forgotten what you initially ordered - or lapsed into the 'lite bite 2 for £10' time zone.We ended up ordering 3 scampi and chips with garden peas and smoked haddock fish cakes with mozzarella cheese which also came with chips and garden peas. Tartar sauce came in those lovely plastic sachets which you've either got the knack to open or end up tearing at the packet with your teeth. Thankfully tomato ketchup came in a bottle. The portions were not huge (would be interesting to know how the 'lite bite' portion compared) but everything was fresh and well cooked. The fish cakes were bland - wouldn't believe the fish used was supposed to be smoked. The tea was good, served in a teapot with a jug of hot water and a couple of jugs of milk - no skimping. Not sure that the food was served on warm plates and sitting near to the doorway leading to the garden centre meant that everything cooled very quickly. The staff were very friendly and efficient - think they were also bemused by the variations on a theme of loyalty stamps!Prices were commensurate with quality and size of portions. The main garden centre is brilliant with a range of products well beyond the usual plants and garden ornaments - well worth a visit.

A trip to the local garden centre would not be complete without a visit to the restaurant for a spot of lunch. Gilberdyke Garden Centre has a beautiful restaurant attached which started out as a small cafe selling home made cakes. over the years this has grown. You can have anything from soup of the day to a full roast dinner. Each afternoon they serve afternoon tea complete with sandwiches and dainty cakes. This is served on fancy cake stands which brings a pang of nostalgia for times gone by. A visit is well worth it . And to walk off the overindulgence of cake why not browse the garden centre itself. the array of plants is glorious there is something for everyone .

Gilberdyke garden centre part of the British garden centres group.Nice large site to walk round with all sorts of homeware and garden plants and equipment, well stocked and often new stock circulated and they turn the entire centre into a winter wonderland of Christmas decorations and even have a santas grotto. The restaurant is clean and plenty of seating and is very popular with older couples and young families and the food is well prepared and presented quickly to tables. Staff obviously have a lot of pride in their service and food and very helpful this really is a key part to a good experience we enjoyed a small Sunday dinner as I don't have the stomach for a full portion extra gravy and I was so pleased with my roast on a weekday I love the option to enjoy this outside a Sunday . The kids enjoyed spaghetti and chicken nuggets and chips which all disappeared the restaurant has a secondary area with a kids play area with coloring and toys which was great for two three year olds and always helpful when they are considered. Pricing is very reasonable and the centre shop has a good range of cheaper items to a more high end which is good to see quality products available.Extensive menu and specials homemade cakes coffees desserts and ice cream something for most tastes wanting an easy lunch and relaxed day out at the centre we will definitely return

We regularly visit and stop off for something to eat too, the garden centre is probably one of the best we've found in Yorkshire, diverse choice of items and nice to just have a wander around. The café is good, drinks are good quality and hot, menu had good choices and whilst the food is a bit basic (which is sometimes a blessing as some places just get far too clever with their menus), it is very good quality and portion sizes are generous. The cakes are wonderful too, always leave feeling full to the brim! The only negative I will say and I really hope that the management take notice is that the music is absolutely dreadful, everytime we have been in the music has been loud and not really the style you would expect in a garden centre (more like rock music!) but the volume really does spoil the experience. It was so loud last time we went in I found myself having to talk really loudly to my husband who wasn't that far away from me as it was far too loud for the setting. I'm not sure of the need for music at all as the place has a lovely relaxing environment and it actually makes for a far nicer shopping and eating experience to not have any background music. Definitely worth a visit.

Lunch I felt a bit over priced for what it was, (though the Sunday lunches are prob the best thing) I felt that the staff were either really rushed or very slow and all looked young and inexperienced. Cutlery was disgusting. All of it in the trays was wet, slimy and sticky and felt like they hadn't been washed properly almost didn't want to use it, had to clean it myself first with kids wipes! Tea for two barely filled two small cups with only a drop of milk given in the jug to cover two people. In the end I had to ask for more milk and extra hot water (when I could finally get someone's attention at the till). Like I said Sunday dinners are great everything else seems very average for the prices paid.

We visited the Garden Centre to attend one of the Halloween workshops they put on for the kids in the school holidays and what a brilliant day was had by all. We spent 2 hours taking part in the workshop and creating a hanging baskets which my daughter got to take home as well as a prize she won for one of the best baskets ! We stayed on afterwards for some lunch which was good value for money and very enjoyable. We then spent time looking around the garden centre at the lovely Christmas display and even picked up a couple of gifts while we was there ! We shall definitely be returning again soon x

We have been to the garden centre many times.as we find it worth the journey from Scarborough.it gives us a nice run out and the cafe has a very good selection of food to suit all Taste's, from a hot meal to baguettes , sandwiches and lovely cakes.plenty of choice for the little ones.or just a drink and a chat with a friend.then the shopping starts as there is plenty of different things to buy.very friendly staff.well done all.

Lovely garden centre well stock with everything from aggregates to statues garden furniture and plants.A mezzanine floor which can sometimes get over looked with a wonderful array of indoor furniture and cushions.I was amazed to be charged 10p for my earl grey tea in the cafe as I'm allergic to lactose I can't have milk. I know it's he mark up on drinks let's be honest we pay over the odds for hot water on a tea bag but to charge extra I felt was a bit steep. You don't charge extra for milk. I appreciate you get to sit in nice surroundings and have to pay for wages overheads etc. If the Ritz doesn't charge for lemon why should a garden centre. I'll visit the shop again but not the tea rooms.

Went for lunch with friends highly recommend the baguette with filling its lovely and fresh. Excellent service. Staff very welcoming. Lots to choose from on the menu to suit all. Special boards are good as well you can see the board when you go over to place your order. This could be in the centre of the dining area, for everyone can see for those who have just sat down. Excellent presentation. Homemade cakes are beautiful the scones are a personal favourite if you just want something small. Definetly worth a visit.

We visited the restaurant at this Garden centre today and was very pleased with my experience. I found the food mainly very nice but I do have to express my dissapointment having to have frozen pretty packed chips.U can't understand why these Are chosen by the management for resale. All frozen chips do is when cooked ,loose the water content and then resemble boiled potatoes. Surely this must loose customers who are used to decent food. Having got that off my chest I also feel it's only fair to praise the staff.I had more contact with the Manageress whom I found extremely helpful as well as being very much in agreement over the chips.and so I say thank you to you Yorkshire lassies at Gilberdyke.

We use this restaurant on a regular basis particularly for the Sunday roast. To buy a piece of meat for two and then roast it makes for a dried up joint. Here we can buy roast meat with Yorkshire pudding, two potato dishes, four veg and gravy and no washing up, what can be better!

Me and my friends have just had lunch in the cafe and as lovely as it was, we had to keep our coats on. There is a cafe bit inside but there is a play area our children wanted to play in so we sat at the tables near this area. We noticed the minute we sat down that it was cold and nearly left, but as the children were playing happily we decided to brave it. I mentioned to the lady as I ordered a coffee (to help me warm up) and she said she would have a word. She said they had turned the heaters on to full but as they were nowhere near us this was ineffective. Shame as the food was lovely but we won't be meeting there again. There are better, warmer play areas, all be it not as local.

I visit this restaurant on a regular basis to meet friends and today I was again not disappointed when meeting a friend. We met for lunch and when looking at the daily specials were spoilt for choice. Winter warmers were plentiful. We decided to look at the menu and eventually chose a jacket potato with beans which was served salad and gammon served with pineapple, chips and peas Both meals arrived quickly and were hot and very well presented. We both had coffee which was excellent. All the staff were very polite and helpful. Well done Gilberdyke Garden Centre two very satisfied diners.

Dropped in here for a break while in the area and for lunch. Missed the breakfast menu, shame, as that looked better than the lunch menu. Couldn't find anything interesting for veggies. Very disappointed. Might have had chips, they looked OK but they were a side dish. Opted for a hot drink and sat next to the diners on low resin armchairs with cushions, a sort of lounge area that was crammed next to the entrance. You have to queue to order at a small counter - must be a nightmare when it is busy. Had hot chocolate, that was nice. As we were finishing our drinks a lady was clearing the table beside us and sweeping the table top with a moist cloth, but sweeping the crumbs and debris all over me as she worked. No regard for us sitting right behind her. I did call out twice but she just turned around and gave us a filthy look. Not nice. The dining tables are jammed together, there's a carpet on the floor, eeuughhh and the resin furniture had enough food crumbs and debris in the weave to create a children's portion. You have been warned.Nice plants in the garden centre and friendly lady on the garden centre till. But the rest of the place is a bit of a higgledy piggledy mess. Not sure I'd bother going back.

Very cramped café area. The queuing/ordering systems needs a review and overhaul. On our visit there were no scones, and hardly any other cakes, focus was on hot meals. Very busy at the time of our visit, could do with some customer care training as it left a lot to be desired. Not looking for a return visit in the near future.

Came really for lunch and was amazed at how quickly Sunday dinner came. Ate everything as it was very tasty and very warm. No complaints at all. I enjoyed eating as there is plenty of room and you don't seem to be staring into people's faces like some pubs. I would rather go here for a Sunday meal than a pub. A lot to chose from as well. I would of loved a sundae but daren't too much after my big meal.

Food was excellent, served quickly and good value. Staff were very polite.Still putting finishing touches to Xmas displays. Don't know how much santa's grotto will be, but peeped in and it looked fab.Only gripe we has was there were only two very small toilets for such a big place. Plus the disabled loo was accessed through nappy changing cupboard and my mum struggled with the low, not very disabled friendly loo.

We have travelled to so many food outlets for a hot Sunday roast in this area. Most carvery's have cold vegetables which do not make for a pleasant dining experience. In this restaurant the meal comes plated, is invariably loaded with hot meat and veg just like at home. The prices are reasonable and the stall extremely helpful.

The food is good but be there on a Sunday before 3pm if you want a Sunday lunch. There are many things to choose from and the chef can be adaptable. The staff are helpful and there are many things to buy for presents especially for the older person in your life. The Christmas range is fun and plentiful

I'm not putting the food down its good, tasty and plentiful. The price is good and atmosphere relaxede. What let's it down is its looking worn and scruffy inside and the loos are dreadful. You can't turn around in the one cubicle in the men's and the disabled has to accessed through the smelly baby change area. Considering this has 35 tables in the main area plus a children's area and outside seating the rather grotty facilities are appauling. The management need to spend a bit on the washing a toilet area and it would get a much higher rating.

What a delightful way of spending a couple of hours on a sunny weekend.Visited here for the first time and was generally very impressed with the lovely products on sale. While here we paid a visit to the food area for a snack to eat. The service was good and it all looked quite clean and tidy with a great play area for children to be kept busy while parents have some food. The food arrived in good time and I must say it was really tasty. Just a great way to spend a few hours on a sunny weekend and we'll worth a visit.

Always enjoy our family trip to see the Christmas displays, it has become a bit of a tradition even though my two are now adults we still get that urge to visit, stopped and had a drink in the restaraunt staff pleasant and friendly service very good.It was lacking something, although I can't put my finger on it it may just be because we went earlier in the season than normal so still not in the full Christmas swing, but that aside still enjoyable

I took my friend and my 1 year old son at the weekend to check out the Christmas decorations. We decided to stop for our lunch it was quite busy with people having Sunday lunch which is always a good sign. We ordered and sat down at our table although we couldn't find a high chair. Our food was delivered quickly by a very polite young man that said he was new who promptly fetched us one. We found him very friendly and helpful and did a great job sorting out my sons missing food. The atmosphere was relaxed and not too noisy, we all enjoyed our food, great size portions overall a good experience.

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
