Gian Carlo's in Birmingham

We love eating at Giancarlos and had our Christmas get together here last night with friends. Fantastic evening and food, as always, was superb. Highly recommend.

The most welcoming and friendliest experience ever as a group of young people. All workers were extremely friendly and are always there to help you with anything such as understanding the menu. This was a very enjoyable experience, the food was cooked fresh and tasted beautiful. The service and food was definitely worth the value and thank you for a lovely experience .

Excellent minestrone soup and chicken in a rich white saucer on pasta. Cooked like we have it in our favourite Country-Italia . We cant wait to go back.!!!

What a lovely family run restaurant with that personal touch. Our 3 course dinner was freshly prepared and tasted top notch. The friendliness we experienced from the front of house husband and wife team of Monica and Umberto made our evening special. Well done their chef son too. A great evening. Thanks so much.

Covid did a lot of things including making it difficult to reconnect with old haunts. Finally, we were able to go and eat and drink at Gian Carlo's new restaurant strangely named Gian Carlo's! On entering one was immediately taken by the lovely and spotless layout with the obligatory red and white checked tablecloths and the unusual lamp shades - empty Rega 2.5kg Italian Tomato tins. The restaurant was not so busy (we came on a Wednesday) so we could choose to sit anywhere we wanted to under the watchful eye of Umberto. In no time at all we are presented with toast and olive oil and a warm welcome from Monica who also took our drinks order. Having got ourselves comfortable and after wishing Gian Carlo happy birthday we were presented with the a la carte menu and a set menu which was a bargain at £16.50. My wife went for the set menu, insalata caprese as a starter and pollo cacciatora as the main whilst I ordered from the a la carte menu, homemade chicken liver pate for a starter and for the main, fileto montanara. We were greeted with ample portions, well presented, and wonderfully cooked. The chicken liver pate and the sauces with the main courses displaying the culinary skills of Gian Carlo. A pause and then along come the dessert menu which caused problems because of the variety of items on offer. My wife chose tiramisu and I chose homemade panettone bread and butter pudding with custard. The tiramisu was delicious but the bread and butter pudding, which came in a small dish, was out of this world. So much so, that after the first mouthful I abandoned the custard. So, it is over. I am not allowed a digestif but no matter as I was well satisfied by the food, the friendly company of the family who run this restaurant and the modest bill which showed what value for money this establish was. I make a mental note, I must come again SOON! You can read my review but the only way to appreciate what a fabulous restaurant this is, is to visit it in person. Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely, friendly proper family run Italian restaurant. Called in on the off chance as we were staying near by. This is a gem. Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, very reasonably priced and friendly owners. Will definitely eat there again when we are in the area

We went here and found it was a little piece of Italy in Birmingham. A family run Italian cooking fresh real Italian food. The family were lovely as was the ambiance. If only we were local, we would come here regularly! Staff were so friendly, we had a bit of shopping with us and they offered to put it in the fridge for us! We ate à la carte but they had a mid week 3 courses for £15 menu and alcohol was really reasonably priced too! We all enjoyed our food and would recommend it to anyone. I left with 2 mice made from corks from the owner!

The quality of the food is amazing and the staff were lovely! I had a 3 course meal for only £15 yet the portion sizes were perfect. Would definitely visit again :)

Visited this place after meaning to for a while. It did not disappoint! The device was fantastic and the couple who ran it were the nicest people. We all went for a steak and it was amazing: better than any steakhouse. Tiramisu was out of this world. The couples son was the chef and he was fantastic. Lovely friendly place. Four of us visited Gian Carlo's on Saturday April 23rd /2022 to celebrate my birthday on the 24th as I prefer an evening meal to Sunday lunch. Absolutely delightful, a small friendly,family atmosphere with "daddy" Umberto providing the entertainment. The star of the show is definitely son Gian Carlo as he is the chef and the food was absolutely delicious and served to perfection. I must mention waitress Pat the who had a very friendly banter with both us and Umberto. If you like a friendly atmosphere with delicious food I can recommend you don't wait til your birthday GO NOW. We absolutely love Gian Carlos food, have been visiting his restaurants over the last 12 years regularly. Beautiful, fresh proper Italian dishes with amazing friendly welcoming service. Shocked to see the 2 reviews that complain about the friendly service, how miserable! At least they agree the food is delicious! Can't wait for our next visit.

Food was fantastic, steak was cooked to perfection , can understand why people like eating here but the owner kept on coming over to talk to us, even sat down with us on the spare chair at one point. This type of 'friendly' isn't for me as we were with friends that we hadn't seen in ages and I just wanted to catch up with them. Shame , lovely food but won't be going back
