Romantica Italian in Birmingham

About 6 years ago i went here for my 17th birthday, and last week i chose to return again for my 23rd birthday with my parents and boyfriend, and I couldnt be more happy with the experience. The food is incredible, proper high quality italian food - yes it is pricier than places like pizza express but 100% you get what you pay for. Customer service is amazing, the staff are attentive and more than happy to help with any concerns. I'm vegetarian and I asked to have the carbonara without the pancetta and they were more than happy to oblige - it felt like the dish was missing something but to be fair I did ask them to remove a key item so that's my choice obviously. I do wish there were a few more veggie options on the menu but in no way has it stopped me from dining here before. We were checked on regularly without it interrupting our meal, and I can't wait to return for my next celebration.

My first time fining here on Saturday with my husband, food, service and atmosphere was lovely, the steak was divine and even manged pudding! will definitely be back.

Romantica is hands down, one of the best restaurants in Sutton Coldfield. The food is excellent and the staff and service are superb. Just check the reviews of Romantica, and it says it all. This place is a gem of a restaurant. We have been coming here at least once a month for years. The lunchtime menu is great value, and they serve the best pint of Moretti in brum.

Our first visit to this restaurant and it was lovely! The staff were so attentive and year discreet, the service was amazing. Our food was delicious and the ambiance in the restaurant was really lovely. We will definitely be back!

The online booking experience was good. The menu was varied and clear. The decor was looking a little tired in places but the service made up for that. All the food was of good quality, cooked well and brought to the table in good time.

Went to Romantica on Friday 2nd of February 2024. I've been past the place many times, but it didn't appeal to me due to the exterior. However, my parents highly recommended the place. I can say honestly that the inside is fantastic. Every member of staff were very polite. The food portions were of a very good size. Great value for money. The two pictures I have attached are: 1. veggie pizza, 2. Garlic pizza bread. Both were exceptional. I would definitely come back here again. Much better than places like Prezzo.

Gorgeous food. Attentive staff but not in your face attentive. Sat on the quiet side of restaurant which is our favourite spot. This is a hidden gem, the 2 course lunch menu is exceptional value for money

Consistently delicious food on offer at this restaurant with plenty of choice, giving delightful combinations of taste and texture. Service is of the highest standards with regular but not over intrusive checks on customers’ needs and satisfaction. I will certainly return.

Wonderful experience at Romantica. Zibby and Ahmed really looked after us well. Zibby gave us great food and drink recommendations, had the Funghi starter and the Spiedini pesce for main which was absolutely delicious, the chefs know what they're doing, flavourful and cooked to perfection! Had such a fantastic lunch here today. We came for my husbands birthday meal along with our 1 year old. As soon as we arrived staff were amazing and accommodating! The feeling and atmosphere is very cosy and authentic. The food was superb and flavourful, great portion sizes and well presented. I had lasagne, some sides and the profiteroles for dessert! 10/10 all around. We cannot wait to come back!! Thank you

Visited this restaurant for the first time with family on a Saturday afternoon. I can't recommend it highly enough! We all struggled to choose starters and mains because there were so many delicious sounding dishes! The food was lovely, generous portions and the service was outstanding. We can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Amazing food, Staff friendly and great service. The only thing I would say is that I had the Spiedini di Pesce and there was 1 scallop could have done with a few more like the prawns and Salman. But still was a really nice

We enjoyed the 2 course lunch menu. Calamari and caprese were very good. Penne al salmone was too. Stroganoff was very good, but spoilt by too much salt in the dish and the rice. Lovely waitresses. Had no time to stop for dessert unfortunately.

Our visit to Romantica in Mere Green Sutton Coldfield with friends was the first in some time. It was busy on a Saturday night and the food was still excellent and the prices have risen by some margin. The starters were all tasty and included salmone affumicato, crochette di pesce (fishcakes), and two calamari fritti. For the mains we had the lasagne, pollo boscaiola and two manzo alla stroganoff. We had two side vegetables which were not as good as our previous visit over a year ago and the broccoli was al dente and too hard for pour paletes. For deserts we had two delicious tiramisus. The bill for four with drinks came to £165.00 and the service was excellent. Regards Gary Saunders

Wow, best italian restaurant in UK definitely . I think i eat better here then in Italy and I've been in Italy 4 times.

I've been here many times over the past few years and I've always found the food ,service and atmosphere hard to beat. My meal on this occasion was up to the usual excellent standard. However , I found that upon ordering the slow cooked pork belly I was told it came with gravy only. I felt this was a little cheeky as this item alone was close to £18. I realised that I needed to order a number of sides ( priced at between £3 and £5 each) to make up a reasonable meal. I'm disappointed that this restaurant has decided that this is the way to increase the price of a meal by offering add ons, and frankly I felt ripped off. Now I realise I could have considered the excellent value lunch menu , but this was a special occasion where I decided on something different. I fully understand that Romantica have to find ways to maximise their income in these hard times but I feel this is a little underhand.

Went there as a family of 4. Excellent ambience and service, staff very friendly, and most of all food was very tasty. Although a bit pricey, all the above positives make up for it. I would certainly recommend and will visit again.

There was a “specials” menu which included a fish cake starter. Extremely tasty and a fabulous combination of textures and tastes. Beef Stroganoff as a main was beautifully cooked and thoroughly enjoyable. What added to the experience was the exceptional courtesy with which I was greeted (as always) and the superb service throughout.

Went for a 30th birthday treat. The food was 1st class as usual. The Risotto was so tasty full of flavour with chicken prawn and chorizo. The lasagne which a few of us had was lovely. And the pizzas were huge. The deserts were 1st class I had the ice cream and sorbet which was lovely. All the meal portions were very generous and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was lovely. And the staff were brilliant as normal very professional and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely be going back soon.

Lovely food, service & ambience. We had the Calamari & the Prawns to start, both delicious & then I had the Salmon Thermidor & my boyfriend had the Steak which was perfectly cooked!

Have been visiting this restaurant for many years and had lunch with my friend one lunchtime. We both chose a starter and main course. Our starters were lovely, I had the prawns in a cream sauce. However, when the waiter bought our main course, my friend had a vegetarian pizza and the waiter bought me chicken rissoto even though I had ordered the chicken breast in peppercorn sauce with french fries. I said that I had not ordered this and he did offer to change it, but as I did not want to be a nuisance, I said it was ok. However, I wish that I Had changed it as I did not enjoy it because it was entirely different to what I had ordered.

We had an amazing meal for father’s day. Food was amazing as was the services and overall ambiance of the restaurant. Very reasonably priced!

Warmly greeted by Karolina, who was delightfully interpersonal, efficient and attentive, throughout service, without being at all intrusive. Insalata Caprese as a starter arrived promptly and was an ideal beginning on a humid evening. Beef Stroganoff was extremely delicious and a generous portion. I will certainly return.

We had a hod a good meal on the occasion of my 80th birthday and the service was fine. As it was was a special occasion my daughter took a cake and balloons having called ahead before driving with the items. However when she arrived and delivered the cake she was told that the cake could not be cut at the table or eaten as a dessert. This should have been mentioned when she called ahead , this seems like a rather petty rule to achieve I am not sure what? It was certainly irritating especially after spenfing over £200.00 and rather took the gloss off the occasion . So be warned if Romantica is on your birthday list !

What a great restaurant ! From the minute we walked in to a warm reception the staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was great and tasted delicious with genuine Italian taste . Wine and beer well priced - brilliant evening 5 couples and real good value . Can’t wait to go back !

First chance to eat out for 12 months & we could not have chosen anywhere better,the food & service was superb,staff were fantastic & the meal was as good if not better than many we have had in Italy,hope to go back soon,when covid restrictions are lifted.

Great takeout service in operation at the minute in these covid times. They give you a 15 minute slot to pull up in there car park and then bring it over to your car. We shared the full chicken and 2 sides. Massive portion well cooked well packed extremely well priced. We had the chicken fries and salad with a lovely homemade piri piri sauce.

We had a collect and eat at home meal, was absolutely delicious and hot despite a 10 minute drive home. High quality takeaway. Food brought out and placed in your car, all very covid safe and with a smile. Will definitely order again.

We have just had the most perfect Italian meal from Romantica’s takeaway service . The food was exquisite and perfectly packaged . The service was excellent and such good value. We will definitely eat here again and if you need to celebrate a special occasion or are just missing eating out you must try here .

We had a take away meal tonight for two. The meal was still very warm despite a 10 minute drive home. The food was very tasty. I would highly recommend the restaurant. The meal was reasonably priced which was a bonus.

We had a take away from here, it was very good and well priced. Would recommend any of the pizzas and the lobster linguine was lovely too. When we arrived to pick it up we realised we’d accidentally ordered it for the next evening, however this was no problem for them, were lovely and accommodating to fix my mistake. They sorted this out for us within 15 minutes. great service! Thank you Giovanni and the chefs, can’t wait to visit when the restaurant is back open to eat inside!

We ordered a meal for my husband's birthday. The ordering process was very straightforward as was collection. The meal itself was absolutely delicious - can't recommend highly enough. We'll done Romantica. We have eaten here before and a big plus was always the friendly staff. However even without personal service I would totally recommend their takeaway service.

My husband and I came for lunch here having recently dined at the acclaimed San Carlo Italian in Birmingham.There is no comparison. To me, this is the best Italian restaurant in the city.Upon arrival, the Covid measures were second to none. We chose a table with a lovely aspect and plenty of distancing. The waitress and waiter could not do enough for us. We were made to feel special.We ordered 2 courses on the lunch menu. I ordered olives and bread for starters and filled vegetarian Tortellini. My husband had soup and then the Salmon pasta.Portions were plentiful and delicious. Waiting staff offering black pepper and parmesan with each course - something not even offered once at San Carlo.The food was delicious with generous portion sizes. The atmopshere was relaxed and not once were we rushed. This was a rare day off so tge tranquility was welcomed.We purchased the lunchtime deal - great value, but were too full for dessert this time.Booking is easy and nothing is too much. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to return very soon and order take out.We dine out frequently in Sutton but not all offer a great vegetarian option with many trying to be fashionable and focusing on vegan only. Well done Romantica. Your five star reviews are well deserved. The customer is king here and your restaurant a community favourite.

We have heard great reviews about Romantica and were very much looking forward to trying it. We booked to go for our 10 year anniversary however were very disappointed with the food. The booking was straightforward on their website. When we arrived the service was good - we were taken straight to our table and the social distancing regulations were respected. Tables were well spaced out and some had protective screens in between. The staff were very attentive and we were served quickly. I had the tomato and vegetable soup to start with which was extremely disappointing as it was bland and had no flavour at all. After adding lots of salt, it was ok but not great. For my main, I had a lasagne and while this was nice it wasn't full of flavour and was disappointing given the price. My husband had the chorizo and scallops for his starter and while was nice, it wasn't anything special. For the main, he had the rack of lamb with vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes which he did really enjoy other than the vegetables lacking in seasoning/flavour. Overall, given the reviews and price, we were very disappointed with the quality of the food and will not be returning.

My wife and I have dined at Romantica many times over the past few years and have never been disappointed, so booking a table recently for lunch was an easy choice. Our expectations were surpassed. The ambiance is always welcoming and relaxed. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is fresh, excellently prepared and presented, and the portions are very generous. Everything that makes for a perfect lunch at a very reasonable price.

I pre booked a table at The Romantica Mere Green for my wife's birthday. The greeting upon entry was very cordial and we were shown immediately to our table. The food is to die for, I cannot praise the kitchen enough and the waiting staff were just as good. They were attentive to our needs, didn't keep hassling us during the meal and were very polite and cheerful.This was our first visit but from now on it will be one of many.

We had the two and three course lunch menu and had good helping on all dishes that we had. The king prawns in chilli and garlic sauce was a winner and the pate and homemade bread very tasty.The beef lasagne was great and the chicken fillet in peppercorn sauce good, though the sauce was a little on the bitter side according to my wife so maybe a touch more cream would have helped?The tiramisu was lovely. The service was excellent and the total bill with two drinks came to £29.00.Well done the staff and chefs. Regards Gary Saunders

My wife and 2 daughters took lunch here for the first time today and overall it was a very good experience. The staff are from a variety of countries, we had a Hungarian lady waiter who was very nice and pleasant, she gave us some good advice about the menu options, along with a very attentive Polish Waiter who was excellent in keeping aware of customer needs and delivered everything efficiently and made himself very easy to approach, to ask for help etc. So the staff were spot on. We just have some minor comments to add, there was singing music played throughout the time we were there, which is okay to a point but it was a little loud and became a bit of a distraction when holding a conversation. In our opinion Music should just be heard in the background to enhance an ambience, so in this sense instrumental music is best and there are lots of lovely Italian tunes of this type to select. In terms of the food I had the soup of the day, which was tomato but truthfully it lacked any flavour, so I should have said something at the time but as I had not been here before, I decided not to cause any fuss, as it was okay but not what I expected. My daughter had the Mozzarella and garlic bread this was excellent with fresh ingredients, so thumbs up for that. In terms of the mains, the Sea bass was superb along with dauphinoise potatoes, as per my wife, again this meal was spot on. One of my daughters had the Penne Con Pollo without the courgettes and this was again extremely tasty, the deserts were also very nice. Finally my wife said that the toilets could do with a revamp. However please don't take this minor criticism to heart, as it is undoubtedly a lovely restaurant but I could just see some areas for improvement, you may well disagree. Basically I just wanted to give some feedback for once, as I have read other peoples reviews on Trip advisor and thought it is time that I gave something back. Anyway many thanks Romantica for a nice lunch, and we wish you all good luck for the future.

Myself and my husband had a meal here tonight for our wedding anniversary. From start to finish everything was 1st class. Fantastic atmosphere and welcoming staff. Food was beautiful!

We got a takeaway here during lockdown and the food was absolutely delicious. We had pizza, pasta, garlic bread and tiramisu and they were all amazing - just like what you get in Italy. Definitely recommend!

Romantica has long been one of our favourite places to eat. Unfortunately our recent visit with friends was different. One of our party ordered a fillet steak easily recognisable by shape and more importantly, texture. The meal arrived with a flat steak completely covered by sauce and was clearly not fillet. On questioning this we were told that it was a fillet steak. Our friend ended up not eating all of it as it was sinewy and inedible, not the characteristic of this prime cut of beef. In fact the whole ambience of the restaurant was different and it was not the usual enjoyable experience we have come to expect. The staff in the past have always been so welcoming. Also during a heatwave, why is there no air conditioning?

From start to finish this restaurant is excellent. Great choices and very tasty food. Drinks and service perfect I a very safe environment

Faultless and plentiful meal for four to help celebrate my husbands birthday. All staff were suited and booted with facemasks and there was a plentiful supply of hand sanitiser around. Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant in March for my husband's birthday and had a lovely meal so it was good to finally to be able to return again after lockdown. The staff are all lovely and make sure you have an enjoyable meal and were all working really hard. We both had a starter of scallops and chorizo off the specials board and we then chose a main meal from the lunch menu. All dishes were delicious. It was a very enjoyable lunch and very good value.

Visited with my family, we sat outside which is a great option if you’re feeling nervous about visiting restaurants. The outside area is beautifully decorated and relaxing. We had the lunch menu which is fantastic value given the quality and quantity of food! Very very impressed with the staff’s efforts at distancing and wearing PPE! Thank you for a gorgeous meal.

First time in a restaurant since lockdown and our first visit to Romantica and we were very impressed! All staff wore masks and social distanced so we felt very safe. Food was absolutely spot on and the service was faultless. We will return, thank you!

This is a great restaurant which has a strong following in the Sutton / Lichfield area . We tried their recently introduced Online Collection facility earlier today . Food was absolutely first class and very good value for money particularly as you get a 20% discount from your first Online order . The order was delivered to my boot as soon as I pulled into Romantica’s car park at 5.45 , brilliant service . We’ll certainly be using this facility again during lockdown . Who knows , post lockdown , it could become another string to their bow - we certainly hope so !

We are regulars at Romantica and always have a first class meal.Today was their first during lockdown for a collection service.The food was brought to our car exactly on time.The food was amazing, it was as good as ever.Presentation excellent, we couldn’t fault anything .It was a real treat , thank you.

Visited today with my husband to celebrate his birthday. We chose a starter and main course from the Lunch menu which is very good value. We both really enjoyed our food. The staff are really nice and very attentive. This is one of our favourite restaurants.
