I had high hopes for this hotel, as it has great potential, but unfortunately, it seems to have been neglected over time. While I understand the charm of its aesthetic and age, the rooms are in desperate need of care and attention. My room, in particular, had a strong smell of embedded tobacco smoke in the furniture, which was quite unpleasant. The mattress was also extremely uncomfortable, with springs poking through, making it hard to get a good night's sleep. Additionally, the room was very cold, though the staff did kindly provide a small oil radiator to help. Everything, from the furniture to the bedding, seemed worn outand in need of a thorough cleaning and refresh. While the staff were hospitable and did their best, these ongoing issues mean I sadly won't be returning.

Tired environment in need of physical updating, decoration, dimly lit, tape holding down carpet on staircase, room door locks, but door moves several inches inward and outward if pushed on so not securely locked, bathroom 1 ply loo paper, have to flush the loo twice to clear paper with long wait for water refill in between flushes, bed mattress totally redicoulous and flattens when you sit or lay on it - urgently needs replacing, heavy single bed covers not a quilt, breakfast starts at 9 am so not useful unless you are on a lesuire break. Windows are not open to the front of the hotel but fixed shut, and the noise from the road during the night and early morning is horrendous. Could not sleep at all with a combination of heavy bed covers, a really hot room, a noisy road. Coat hangers mix of lightweight plastic and light metal type you get free from dry cleaners, so they bend and mishape once you put your clothes onto them. Really scary sign in toilet about an alarm going off if in case of flushing wrong items into the toilet. Never never again ...

An absolutely wonderful place to stay, only a short walk away from the heart of Derby and well worth the visit in and of itself! A delightful time capsule absolutely packed with character, not to mention nice rooms and friendly staff. The owners in particular are great to have a chat with. Highly recommended!

I can imagine years ago this used to be a magnificent hotel but now it needs a complete overhaul! Everything is tired, dated, threadbare and dirty. We couldn't even shower in the morning as the shower head was black and mouldy. Only upside is the sheets were clean and it was in close proximity to the concert we were going to. Would not recommend and definitely would not go back.

Very clean and freshly renovated bathroom. The building is old so it has a lot of charm, but it got quite hot during my visit in the summer (no a/c.) The place was quiet, you need to go to the pub on the first floor if you need anything. Very nice staff.

I spent 2.5 weeks there with my family. Great place and atmosphere. The taverna is so amazing that you can't take your eyes off the decor. The staff is really over friendly (even the ghost of Mr. Grundy's). I really recommend. It's a pity you can only give 5 stars. Karen and Simon we miss you already

This is such a lovely hotel. It has loads of character. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I'm very grateful we had the opportunity to stay there. I wish we could've stayed longer. I highly recommend.

There wasn't really a warm welcome to this place. However, the room I had was nice (but the heating did not work at all. I had to be wrapped in my blanket when sleeping). Oh and the keys I had were Massive. Imagine having to carry that around.

Beautiful Georgian building with oak-panelled rooms filled with antique furniture, paintings and ornaments make it a really charming and interesting place to stay. Rooms are simple but comfortable and great value. Breakfast is fantastic. We ate in the bar and the food was good. BIG portions. Great location. Highly recommended for a short stay in Derby especially for the University. What really made a difference was the freindliness of the staff. Would definitely stay again

Clean, convenient, friendly, fantastic breakfast. There was road noise but it didn't bother us and there was a fan in the room if we'd wanted to close the window. A good place to stay after an exciting graduation day!!

Unfortunately my company booked me into this hotel for 3 nights whilst I attended a training course. I say Unfortunately because I suffer from coeliac disease which means that I can't eat food containing gluten. They literally have 1 dish that I can eat on their menu. I can't believe a company as big as this doesn't offer more options.

Came here from a friend's recommendation. Lounge itself was very nice. Seats were well maintained, everything seemed to be in order. I ordered the Philly cheese steak meal and my friend ordered the beef burger. The food was amazing. Very freshly made. Chips were crispy and the burger and Philly cheese steak were on point. My friend had the shisha. Whilst I don't smoke; he mentioned to me it was a big fail. He ordered the double apple and it taste nothing like it all. Think they need to do some taste testing on the shisha side.

I had pizza and chips and it was ok, but cheese and tomato pizza shouldn't have a curry taste about it, a bit off putting.
