This is the 2nd time I’ve visited the Forge but I hadnt been here in a few years. I think what’s interesting is that the steaks aren’t cooked for you in the traditional way before hand but are brought to you on a red hot stone that is cooking the steak in front of you. I personally think this is a bit flawed and it’s just for the social media aspects, as I like my steak very rare and so my ribeye was cooking very slowly whilst I was eating, as you can see on my photo of the steak you can’t put the steak anywhere else…I’m sure they would of provided me a plate if I asked for it though! On the other hand if I wanted my steak ‘very well done’ then I’d be sat there waiting for my steak to cook whilst other people in my party would be eating theres. Apart from my steak overcooking it was a decent steak with a good size mushroom and chips. I did ask the waitress what draft beers do they have and she looked at me very confused which I had to explain to her what I meant by ‘draft’ and she had to check with her colleague. To summarise it was a nice meal and would probably go back again, I’m just not a big fan of the stone cooking the steak but I know that’s their trademark.

I booked BlackRock for an evening meal for a hen do last night - I just want to start by saying a big thank you to the staff there, the service was incredible and the staff were so accommodating. We got the whole upstairs room to ourselves which was really nice and got to decorate in advance, everyone there was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were a large group of 20 but they still kept drinks coming frequently, and all the food arrived together which was nice. The food was also incredible! I had Halloumi fries for starter which were absolutely huge and so tasty, and the bistro rump for main which was a lot of fun on the black rocks and also tasted amazing. Will definitely be back!

3rd time visiting The Forge and yet again the Food was delicious - Steak was Tender - Chicken was Juicy and the Home Made Chips just delightful - The Staff are attentive without being pushy and catered for our every request with a cheery smile The only minus point I'd give this place is that in this day and age of contactless payment they have not implemented a way for you to tip the Staff for all their hard work which for me was a bit of a failure on the Companies part ‐ Leaving a Tip is for me not just a sign of having good food but also excellent service

I’ve not been here for 4 years, the food previously was great. Due to apparent short staffing. Took 30 minutes to get a round of drinks. Took nearly 2 hours for our food to come out. Food was very average when it arrived and to top it off when the food arrived it took 15 minutes to get condiments. Very expensive for what we received. Would not recommend!

On arrival we asked for a table to be told we don't do walk ins and that they only take bookings online. I could see the place was empty with lots of available tables. I said I would book online. Before I got my phone out the lady walked off saying right I'm off upstairs. When I finally connected to WiFi, dowllnloaded the app and booked a table for 14:30 another member of staff approached me saying I'm not sure if she told you but we have a technical problem in the kitchen so there may be a 30 minute wait. We sat down and by this time I didn't feel welcome. 5 minutes later the other lady came to take our order saying sorry about that we are just short staffed. I informed her we had changed our minds and ate elsewhere. Extremely disappointed with the service.

Called in on the off chance, and they had a table available to us. We had to be wheeled out! The food was excellent, served on hot stone, ready to cut into strips to cook at the level you want it. The portions are very large, taste great, and the service is excellent. Would definitely return. But I will need to make sure I haven't eaten at all that day before 😊

Food was amazing so no complaints there. However service was atrocious. Booked around a month ago on the website for valentine’s day and rang in a few days prior to the 14th to double check the booking. Spoke to a lovely lady who had issues finding the booking but confirmed it was all good for 6pm. Rang in again on the day informing them we would be 5-10 minutes late due to the uber driver and traffic and they could not find my booking. Had a few issues but resolved by booking another one for 6:15. Arrived at the venue and were rushed to our seats with no introduction to the menu, the facility, anything at all. For the price of the food, I would expect at the least an introduction to the menu. Especially as other customers seemed to receive this service upon seating. We were served and ordered starters and drinks along with the mains but my other half got served a main before our starters even came out. Not thinking anything of it, she started cutting some stuff up as I sat puzzled until a member of staff did a double take and asked us if we’d had our starters yet. I said we had not and she rushed off to come back and grab the food from under my partners nose stating “that isn’t yours darling” without an apology or an explanation. My partner was left feeling worried she had done something wrong and confused as to what had just happened. Our starters came out and everything went smooth until I asked a member of staff for a jug of water. I patiently waited as I understood it was valentine’s day and they may have more important things to attend, but approaching the 30 minute mark, I asked another member of staff for a jug of water to replace my empty glass. She said of course and did not return until the meal had concluded. I asked her again for a jug of water and she replied “oh yeah”. This was approximately 80 minutes since I first asked. I at least expected an apology but none was given. I also noticed midway through the meal a member of staff was mucking about with a bottle of wine I assume it to be when it smashed on the floor. I saw a few customers jump as it made rather a loud noise and interrupted our valentines meals. I understand mistakes are made and bottles get smashed but it seemed like he was trying to juggle it or toss it in the air? For the price of a meal I expected it to be less rushed and a bit more respectful but the food was delicious nevertheless.

Do not go here if you want to stink of smoke for the rest of the night! Due to the steaks being cooked on a black rock, the room was incredibly Smokey and very strong smelling. Currently on the way home to have a shower as all of our hair stinks of smoke and grease. Extremely unpleasant. If a facility is good enough to offer such an experience (which was different, and the food was good) , surely air conditioning should be essential. The air was full of smoke and it just stunk, and now I do too. Given the prices, AC should be a basic in this restaurant! The floors were also really greasy and multiple of us slipped on it. As I say, food was great and it was nice to have a different experience; I would just prefer to continue smelling nice rather than a steakhouse. Will not return.

This was not only my first time here, but it was also the first time I ate steak off a hot rock. This place is definitely worth going to. I do like my steak on the medium well side. The steak comes out a little bit below medium. What I didn't know until afterwards was to cut up the steak into slices to help it continue to cook on the rock. Despite this, the steak was quite flavorful and tender. The variety of appetizers were phenomenal. The staff stayed on top of our needs throughout the night. The location is kind of in the cut but still a very busy location. Check it out to decide for yourself.

Food was amazing. The wings were perfectly flavoured and the burger was delicious. We were a bit disappointed by the menu as we looked before we came and what I wanted wasn't on there so I had to go with the burger. The live music a lovely touch that made our anniversary meal even more special. She has a wonderful voice. The only thing that ruined our night was the waitress forgot to order my partners meal. Mine came out and when his still hadn't arrived 5 minutes later he called one of the waitresses over and just said 'I think I have been forgotten' and laughed. We didn't made a fuss or get angry about it. The fact that noone realised when there were 2 people at the table and only one meal ordered surprised me. I feel the service recovery was very poor. We got no explanation for the mistake they made and a half hearted sorry when he finally got his meal. By the time his came mine was cold and not one of the staff offered to put mine back on the pass under the heat lamps to keep it warm knowing his wasn't ready. I work in hospitality myself and i know there is a procedure (at least in england) for things like this. We feel this wasn't handled well at all and for the reputation this restaurant has, we expected better from the staff.

Back in November 2022, I was visiting my friend from Belper, to go somewhere to eat. It was such a rainy day. I haven't been to this place before. So, we decided to go somewhere different as well as supporting one of the local businesses in the area. We were welcomed by Janice; she was very friendly and reassuring too. She held great conversations & the staff over there were amazing too. We tried the steak over there. Totally forgotten which steak we had. Possibly the fillet steak I think that we both had or the Denver Steak one. The experience was amazing. It was very expensive, but we both really enjoyed the food and company too. We may come back in the future!

They also failed to in form us the peppercorn sauce was £3.50... steak was absolutely incredible and very filling but just too over priced for my liking, but saying that... totally would eat again.

First visit. Taken by son and daughter in law for husband's birthday. They have been several times. Staff were excellent - efficient and polite. We all had steak which you cook yourself on a (very!) hot stone. Something different - a whole new experience for anyone bored with the usual, run of the mill, restaurant meals. Not cheap but not overly expensive. No complaints from anyone in our party. Will definitely visit again!

After a really long hard day I was yearning for some quality meat and nothing else would hit the spot. I stumbled upon the Forge and was at first a little hesitant, the temperature was close to 30 during the day so the thought of cooking on a hot stone at the table was a little off putting so initially walked in and went straight back out again. Walking up and down the high street aimlessly and thinking about nothing but meat I thankfully decided to return. I was torn between the king fillet and the chateaubriand but opted for the latter as never heard of a king fillet. My meal arrived on the hot plate and I was happy with both the length and girth of the meat offered. The chips were possibly up there with the best I have ever had and the meat was top quality, I did sweat a bit with the hit plate but forced the succulent meat down anyway. Really nice meal and great service

I have been visiting The Forge once a week for the past few months and it is possibly one of the best steal houses I have ever visited. I love the hot stone cooking concept as you can cook the steak exactly how you like it and the food stays hot throughout. I always choose the butcher's choice priced at £24. With a pint of lime and soda the whole meal costs £25. Excellent value. The staff are also very friendly and helpful and it is always a delight to visit.

Been meaning to eat here since it opened but have been put off by the noisy, pre-club vibe it's got. Not our thing to dine in this kind of atmos. But we fancied steak so went to have a look and the Blacksmith's Yard it's in was relatively quiet for a Saturday afternoon. We weren't disappointed by the food at all. Very impressive presentation, with our choices of meat cooking on blisteringly hot lava stones. My locally sourced venison was only seared but once I started slicing it up, it cooked in no time. My partner requested that his steak was delivered fully cooked and they were happy to oblige. I did make the mistake of ordering battered onion rings which were huge! Quite pricey but then it is meat-based so not that surprising. We'll definitely go again when we're feeling flush and it's quiet.

One of the best steak houses I've been to! We went on a date because we had been highly recommended the place and it definitely did not disappoint. The staff are absolutely wonderful and we are very polite. The food's displays came out still cooking in front of you whilst you ate and the alcoholic drinks were amazing - especially the old fashioned. Lots of variety and everything is high quality. All the staff where more interested in smoking outside the open door next to our table rather than giving good service and when they finally did come in they never washed there hands the knifes where so blunt we couldn't cut our steaks and there was that much oil on the hot stone my partners dress was covered from its spitting, best part in order to talk to management staff had to go and make a phone call because there was only a bar supervisor in. Will never waste my time here again.

Delivery of the food was very quick due to not needing to cook the steak themselves. Its on a hot stone which you cook. I felt that we needed more peppercorn sauce as when you put it on the steak on the hot plate it drys quick! Plus when you get to the end it's well done so you can't control it. You eat from raw to well done generally. An additional plate would be better to put the steak on than let it dry out the steak or an offer to have that option. The only space was taken up by a giant mushroom. Aside from this we loved our visit. I do highly recommend to go and try this amazing experience. Next time I will ask for a plate and no mushroom. The beef was a good quality grade and big enough for 12oz. We waited a bit too long to pay for the bill so we went to get someone at the bar to pay. They need additional air conditioning as it was too smoky inside. 7/10 for these reasons.

I shared a Chateaubriand with my wife last night, the steak itself was perfect, very tender and juicy. Cooking on the stone is a gimmick but it was alright. We did order some sides, which are the smallest portion sizes I have ever seen. £4 for for 3 small, and I mean small, halloumi fries is extortionate. We also ordered a stilton sauce which given we had a 16oz steak the portion size of sauce was almost comical, it couldn't have been more than 50ml. Ideally needed three times the amount that was given. And this thimble of sauce was also £3.50.

Tried the Forge after recommendations, food was top quality but not worth the price tag as the service was so poor. It was so cold we had to sit with coats on inside. No welcome, just got ignored for 5 mins while waiting to be seated. Starter came incomplete, was told the rest was coming, had to ask again when nearly finished for the rest of the starters. During the whole experience we were not asked if everything was ok. Food was dumped on the table with staff not knowing what type of steak or who's order it was. We had to keep asking for cutlery, napkins and sauces as nothing was given. Drinks were a nightmare, you needed to flag down a member of staff who said, they would be with you soon, off they went and you flagged again, at this point waited 15 mins with an empty glass, asked at the bar to be told staff are coming. Ordered drinks and waited another 10 mins for your drink off a staff member who didnt know what table was what. For the price tag you expect a fabulous experience, no candles, no music and with the unbearable cold made a cosy valentines meal, not what you expect for the price. My company was great, food was top quality ( cook yourself , so to your liking) Just not the experience for the price tag. Won't be going again. The Manager did agree that the service was poor as 6 staff had rang in sick and the staff were learners. Sadly thats not our fault.

Always had good meals in here but unfortunately prices have gone mad! Last time we visited a sirloin was somewhere around £26. The same cut is now £42!!! If I’m paying £42 for a sirloin or £50 for a ribeye I would expect a little better… - service was average and we had to ask to place another drink order after waiting a while - food took a long time to come even though it comes uncooked???? We assume they don’t have enough of the hot stones - steak knives are so worn that the serrations had gone smooth. It struggles to slice a mushroom - sauces cold - restaurant toilets are like a grotty night club Overall, with the new prices, we cannot justify visiting again when Miller and Carter provides a better dining experience at 3/4 of the cost

Awesome place. Had one of the best steaks here. Was skeptical at first especially with the smoky environment but the end result was WOW! I love love this place. They even have kids menu. My baby was happy to eat there lol. There should however be a side plate to rest your steak on to avoid overcooking or steak getting burnt.

After nearly a month I’m still awaiting a call with an explanation and refund as we where charged £50.00 I can only assume as we didn’t go but needless to say I rang and cancelled 14 days before. I have left messages for the owner to call me as apparently it is only them that can deal with this. From the poor level of efficiency it is clear to see why our cancellation didn’t get processed, furious does not come close. Next stop trading standards as terms and conditions have been well and truly broken here

This is the only experience I’ve had like this before! To start it was extremely busy so the service was not up to scratch (understandably) we felt so neglected and forgotten until one lady approached to see if we was okay and she immediately got our food to us which I have to say it was the BEST steak me and my partner has ever had in our lives! So beautiful that nothing else mattered! Massive congratulations to the chefs! Shall be returning this Christmas!

Slow service, terrible food. We waited for 75 mins for food to be delivered. When it arrived the chips where luke warm and the sauce was cold. The sauce was also the wrong sauce. When we mentioned this to the staff (after finally getting the waitresses attention, no easy feat), who removed the chips and took them back to the kitchen. A guy emerged from the kitchen and pointed out that the chips must have been ok as some where eaten, I've never encountered such a rude member of staff. To be fair we were offered replacement chips but the guy from the kitchen put us off. This place was on my want to go back list, it isn't any more. Won't be going back.

Perfect meal served on a volcanic stone cooked just as you like soft drinks were a bit flat enjoyed our first visit will be visiting there again soon. Well, it was different.. I had a 12oz steak and partner had the chicken. What seems like a fun and quirky idea of a hot rock, is actually a face full of heat and smoke in a desperate race to chop up your meat with a very blunt knife and then find somewhere on the slab to put it so it doesn’t incinerate itself over the course of your meal. A side plate is needed, or have a rock for the table, so you can cook your meat in the middle and then rest it on your plate. Any sauces or other things added to the stone instantly burn in a puff of smoke and add to the smokey face sauna in front of you and the overall slightly oppressive and smokey atmosphere. The food was nice overall, but the stone concept was not for me and didn’t give a calm or fun dining experience. The staff where all very polite but so busy, sometimes to the point of being a little flustered and chaotic.

This started off bad from the onset, i made a reservation for standard but on arrival we were put outside, ordered drinks waited a while the hubby ended up going to the bar. On ordering i really wanted to order a pie, then was told no pies no fish n chips no salad. I ordered a fillet steak bear in mind was nearly triple the price of a pie., very disappointed with the steak suppose to slice the knife straight through but no i had to literally saw through it, very chewy spat a few bits out. Very short staffed three of them running around taking bar/menu orders plus clearing the tables.I am not one to usually moan but the bill being over £100 and I have to work hard for that, I was very disappointed

Absolutely delicious meal. It’s really fun to cook top quality steaks exactly as you like them. Mains portion sizes are big and really well priced + they have Lilly’s pineapple on tap. The dream. My server Tash was lovely too. I’m only going for 4 instead of 5 because my sticky chill prawns only had 5 little prawns in it. There should definitely be a lot more for £9.

What an absolute treat this place is! Located in the blacksmiths yard (Google maps doesn’t find it). The steak is superb! We had Camembert to start with bread which was super tasty, then we shared a chateaubriand steak between two as it seemed like the cheapest option. It was certainly enough. I love how you cook the steak to your own liking and there is a little instruction card on your table to tell you how long to cook it for. The blue cheese sauce is top notch. It does get quite busy here so may be wise to book a table, we did managed to walk in but we went at about 6/6:30pm. Definitely worth a visit if you fancy a delicious steak!

Paid 4 pounds for a side of haloumi fries, it was one cut up into small chunks in a little pot. Steak wasnt seasoned at all. Tuna was already overcooked before it got to the table then continued cooking to make it rubber. Got 4 measly new potatoes on the side.

Well over priced for what you get. I've had better steaks for less elsewhere and they was cooked for Mr on a grill not cooked by myself on a stone at my table. The service aimr the best although they was pleasant. Also the floors are really greasy beware when going toilet. Definitely won't be going back you're just paying for a gimmick of ca hot stone. Food great. Staff arrogant and rude! Waitress leaving us mid ordering to go seat other customers. Then motioning us to pass her the menu. Both times I went to the toilet I moved to the side to let staff pass and NEITHER time did I receive a thank you or even a smile! Staff seemed like they didn’t care. When the food arrived, my partners onion ring fell on to the table and the waitress just picked it up and put it back on his plate 🤮. Only nice waitress was the one saying ‘my love’. Will not be recommending as this place is not cheap!!

First time eating here....had chicken wings and chilli prawns for starters. The chicken wings were delicious and one single portion is enough for two to share to be honest. Unfortunately the prawns were a little overcooked so a bit rubbery but the sauce was good. Having never had one before, we shared a Chateau Briand. It was a great food experience with the hot stone and slicing the rare meat up which you then cook to your taste, and it was delicious, though some seasoning wouldn't have gone amiss. We would have preferred fries (be great if you could have a choice) rather than the thick cut wedges and a bit more than what seemed like a teaspoon of coleslaw. The salad garnish was nice and fresh as was the giant mushroom that also comes on the side. Perhaps a little overpriced as a dish but it is a good chunk of meat that is very tender. If you choose to have this I would suggest sharing a starter as it was very filling and we couldn't finish it all. The only critique we really had was the length of time waiting for drinks and the toilets were untidy with paper all over the floor.

The only positives about this place is the quiet courtyard setting and the folks on the bar. How can you expect customers to cook their own steak (completely unseasoned at that) and still charge top dollar. It's laziness disguised as a 'quirk' to save time in the kitchen and chuck as many meals out as fast as possible. Service was okay.

It is such a shame, I visited The Forge a while back and then visited again yesterday evening. It was very disappointing , our drinks took nearly an hour to come and we got our food before they came to the table. The sever was unaware that we had no drinks as she was too busy chatting to other staff all stood at the bar. My steak was okay but nothing spectacular. My pudding however was frozen solid, I have never experienced anything like it. Will not be going back and will not be recommending it to anyone!

Went for valentines but we didn't enjoy it has chips we're not cooked properly we had to share everything which is fair enough with it been valentines but the portion size was shocking we had 6 chips between 2 of us although the steak was lovely once we finally cooked it, also they charged us for the bottles of wine which was supposed to be with the meal deal I personally would not return but maybe it was just a big mistake they made for valentines I Don't like to leave negative feedback but I personally feel from our experience it was not good
