George's Tradition in Erewash

Went about 2pm no queue. The fish was lovely as usual but the chips were disappointing I had med size but the box was filled with bits and ends of. Potatoes no actual long chips as expected infact it looked like left over bits and I got the lot! Next time I would like proper chips with my fish please.

Unfortunately gone down hill. Fish was terrible yesterday and half was green & inedible. Might have been unlucky but others in the group felt theirs was not great either!

Took my son for a late lunch, Chips were quite undercooked, not georges normal standard,update!!! Well, I thought they couldn't get much worse. Last nights food was a disgrace, £25 wasted fish, and chips were old dry and luke warm at best, not great.

Classic Fish and Chips offers great food. The service, particularly from Josephine, is lovely. A recommended spot for a satisfying meal.

UPDATE 2024 - new year, same garbage (see pics). Trash food, straight in the bin - this was last chance and never again for me now! 0 stars if only it was possible. How the mighty have fallen. You could gaurentee a queue out the door / stood waiting for a table back in the day, now it seems like a soulless outfit. Having worked there 10 something years ago i remember the cabinets being stacked with quality, well cooked items and the place buzzing. Now it’s a bit of a tired and overpriced shadow of it’s former self with some longtime staff seemingly still there stuck in a rut. It’s been a while since sampling the fish, chips and peas and probably the last. Nothing special at all, not well cooked, not fresh. Fish with blown batter and overdone, chips soggy and luke warm, watery peas. Poor lad serving was in no rush either, he would of been getting a massive hurry up in times gone by. Maybe covid and the cost of living killed it off a bit, but that’s no excuse to drop the standards. RIP GEORGE.

A proper fish and chip shop. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, the staff is very friendly .

George's fish and chips are amazing and reasonably priced. It was between 11:30 & 12pm when we visited. We were seated straight away as there were only a few people dinning,. Service was prompt and polite. Overall experience was very good. Just a party of 3 or 4 women who spoke so loud that we knew all their business. Nothing to do with the restaurant but it did spoil the atmosphere a little. We will definitely visit the restaurant again.

Consistency is great here. Young servers are polite and attentive.

This chip shop was the worst I come to waiting to be served and they was not interested in serving me was more bothered about doing online orders and telephone all the staff then the walkings asked twice got nothing there plenty of staff there to manged walkings and online walked out after waiting to long and went to a chip shop what was loads better in Sawley

Always really good food and staff are very helpful

Not been for a while but was surprised they were empty when people are normally quing out the door. Served quickly but felt the cost was high compared to elsewhere but in the past this has always been reflected in the quality of the food. Living less than 10 minutes away we were really dissaponted. The chips didn't tastes fresh and were soft. The fish was overcooked and over battered. Having paid premium price we we not happy which was made worse by one of the 2 curry sauces we had ordered was missing. The curry sauce we did receive was small and bland. Sorry but I am not going ttodo a 20+ minutes round trip for a curry sauce but certainly will not be returning in a hurry. What a shame when they used to be so good. Georges, please put my refund in a charity box.

We ate inside the restaurant and everything was wonderful.. Lovely staff and delicious food. You won't be disappointed.

Took a friend there for lunch. She enjoyed every mouthful. It was freshly prepared and well presented. This is a good place to have freshly cooked fish and chips. The staff were polite and attentive.

Chips were excellent 👌 fish really good and curry sauce to die for. Good meal deals. I had small cod, chips and curry sauce plus can of tango all for just £10.

I love George's fish chips and peas 😋 when my son and his family come from Doncaster to see me we always have this and it's always fantastic 👌it's always freshly cooked and hot and my son says there's nothing as good anywhere in Doncaster!

Went here for dinner on a Thursday night, sat down in their small but cosy restaurant area. Staff were friendly and service was quick and easy. Great menu selection, the fish was very good and the chips were amazing. Pricing was good for the portion size, would recommend.

Food was fine, not great but fine.... the service was so slow.... went in for dinner and finished up having supper. Two young lads serving were ridiculously slow... Sunday at 12:20....

Great food, great service and, the food was cheap too, me and my girlfriend ate here and it only costed £15 for the both of us! Thats so cheap!

Have been about 5 times over 8 years EVERY time have had grit in the chips, very bland tasting fish and chips apart from the grit, but quite oily. Haven't been back.

A hidden gem really , been going weekly for many years. Good menu especially fish. Very inexpensive, great waitress Helen who has served us almost every visit . Exceptionally welcoming and great atmosphere .

Really good food. Can order online, at the counter or dine in.

Normally ok - tonight it was simply dreadful and has put me off going again. 30 min waiting with only 2 people in front - tiny portions of very poor food some of which did not taste good and 3 mistakes on the order - no apology or effort to correct! Very disappointed

They no longer serve wine. They are still using the pandemic as the excuse. My wife tells me that it used to be heaving, that you had to queue to get a table. That was certainly not the case tonight. There were two other tables occupied

We went for fish bite and chips x3 lunch menue, The 3 fish bites were dried up battered minows, at £2.65 each portion. WELL DONE GEORGE. !!! POST COVID BARGAIN !!!!

Decent fish and chips, fair prices, friendly service. Be warned though the sit-in menu is a much, much, more reduced version of their takeaway menu. We were surprised to find it lacking many of the things they serve from the takeaway next door.

Best fish and chips ever in Midlands. Very old fashion but the quality never let you down. Have a large cod with curry sauce and mushy peas, a plate of bread and butter, a nice cup of tea. Perfect. The batter is so light and crispy, not oily at all, the fish is very fresh and good quality. We always go there when we want fish and chips.

Gutted the lunchtime specials aren't as cheap as pre covid, but still, can't put a price on quality 😁

Not that brilliant, used to be a great chip shop but now the chips seem to be overcooked and the homemade fishcake pretty much the same, last 3 times have been the same so I don't think I'm going to go again.

We ordered online to pick up later in the day. I arrived a few minutes early and they got my order ready quickly and with no delay. The food was great and the staff were friendly Since this review we come here once a month on a Sunday. Always ordering online in the morning to pick up for lunch. Every single time the experience has been great with food being ready on time and always top quality. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want fish and chips!

Terrible service, asked for peas given beans ,asked Katy 3 times if order correct and was told had peas got home and beans . Returned and told woman then other staff mem er told me to get off her back as new . Left me waiting then asked if I wanted anything else which I replied yes my peas no apology and very rude . Go else where

I can only rate as average based on this week’s experience. I have been a customer for many years but have not visited since before lockdown. I didn’t want to sit on the bench it was stained and very uninvitingly shabby. As were a couple of tables including the one we were sat at with dropped food under the table from previous customers not cleared. I understand that price structure at fish and chip shops is more difficult with overhead costs like oil, fish and cost of fuel so it didn’t surprise me to see on pensioners special an increased price but no bread and butter and a cuppa. Also no explanation as to why you can no longer enjoy an alcoholic drink. Everything felt jaded and as only a couple of tables with customers also no atmosphere. My grandkids enjoyed their food so they were happy enough!! I won’t be rushing back as I think I will try the Cods Scallops first and do a comparison. Come on George’s don’t sit on your laurels let’s see your mojo back .

Fish Chips and Mushy Peas cooked perfectly, friendly staff, covid screens have now been removed from the serving counter which makes it a nicer experience reassuring step back to normality 🙂🙂🙂

Disappointed again. My review is mainly below, but just adding this amendment ... we were the first people to use the table on the day and it was set ready to go, but we had to ask for it to be cleaned as it was still dirty from the previous evening. Been regular's at George's restaurants for several years using Belper predominantly but also Ilkeston and Long Eaton. Last 2 visits it's not been up to their usual standard, then again today, (so a third time), at Long Eaton, it's was no better than OK, with scrappy chips and fishy fish (which was the smallest large cod I've ever seen). We told the server who said she'd let the manager know, but no additional response, so charged full price for poor quality. Sadly we will be giving them a miss for a long time as they are no longer our "go to" Chippy.

Service was absolutely brilliant the young girl was so polite ,we had fish chips sauces battered sausages and fish cake we drove other side long Eaton when we got home all the food was piping hot well happy , definitely recommend here ,well done long Eaton branch

Popped in for an early dinner while on our travels. This place was recommended to us and we wasn't disappointed at all ! Food was perfect. Although the photo is of a large meal and i couldn't finish it. Pricing was really fair 2x large battered sausage, chips and mushy peas for under £10. You won't find that down south. Fast service and great friendly customer service.

This is the last time we buy cold chips greasy un-cooked fish from georges. Honestly we have poor meals from longeaton and even poorer service from the so called manager sylvia. Shes a disgrace and so is the food! Its no supprise they had to call the administrators in!! Yes its gone bust

Food is always decent but recently booked a table in the restaurant, arrived on time and we're told 'there's still people at your table, i can't rush them. If you wait outside I'll let you know when it's free' Anyway after 15 mins and staff allowing people to sit at a reserved table and chat, we gave up and left. Shame because the food is very good but being told to wait outside for a table that we reserved was ridiculous really

Very nice as usual. My friend & I had the Pensioner's fish/chips plus we had the bread & butter, plus pot of tea for 2. Ellen that was serving all the customers, no help, was her usual lovely, cheerful self. Not a moan from her, she deserves a medal. Obviously enjoys her job. 😊👍

The last 3 times I have been the chips have been awful.

Absolutely diabolical !!! We are a regular but no more will we be going here again!!! The last 2 times we've been they have been terrible dry cardboard chips well I say chips but they are like batter bits and so tasteless!! And the fish was so poor very thin...we asked for large but they were small !! Sorry georges we won't be visiting again!!!!

We visited George’s at long Eaton yesterday and wonde red why it was empty on a Saturday dinner time we soon realised why, for a start, no ketch on tables, no bread and butter on laps specials when we got our order, which was very nice someo had scraped the butter on and someone had scraped it off. The price we paid for two thin slices could have bought a loaf from Asda. No wonder it was empty we won’t be back
