Beautiful pub dating back to 11 century - wood fires and beautiful low ceiling beams. Really friendly atmosphere. The beer garden has a stunning view of rolling hills with loads of space and tables available. Gavin and Carole (the landlords) are really lovely people, who spent time chatting with us before we left - we hope the Council get their act together and build the footpath that Carole has been pushing for! The food was super and the drinks very reasonably priced, and the team of waitresses were excellent.

Just went today after long hike in the downs, and easily one of the best pubs we've visited in our life. Can be a little pricey, but the massive portions and extremely good food more than make up for it and can fill even biggest lads. Very friendly owners that were nice and chatty but still speedy. About £130~ but was for 3 for 3 courses + some drinks. Can't recommend more, would even travel to visit👍

Although good service and very accommodating with our family and prams, the food was disappointing. The roast potatoes with the roast dinner were dry, the veg was just plain boiled veg and the meat was overcooked. A very comfortable pub, run by people who know how to do it. A short drive from Arundel, we were looking for a nice proper old pub for lunch on the way home. If we could have found a cheap place to stay we would have remained in place for the afternoon, and probably dinner. Its been tastefully renovated, plenty of room, and enormous open fire near the main bar, and beautiful views across the countryside. Very good traditional food, all home made. Outdoor and garden seating when the weather allows it. I'd go again when down in this part of the world.

Great little pub in West Sussex. Good food (enough on the plate but not over the top - just right for those with Buddha nature - space is as important as content), friendly hospitality and efficiently served. Fantastic country views from the garden. Great ambience inside. Loos spotlessly clean. Sunday lunch with friends yesterday - it was a grand day out. My dessert was an Italien Affogato - vanilla ice cream with an espresso on the side to drizzle over the ice cream. Simple but nice, I shall do this at home to my own recipe: Cornish vanilla ice cream with clotted cream, espresso coffee drizzled over plus a dash of Italien Tia Maria coffee liqueur (shall I take out a patent for it, before someone from MasterChef grabs it?).

We nearly turned away because the car park was full, sadly down to some not so sensible parking, but the pub and gardens looked so lovely that we found somewhere to park and went in. My father first used to walk to this pub from Bury, that must have been in the 1920s, and he always rated this well before Google was even a dream. We have through the centuries continued to drop in when passing, it has never ever ceased to satisfy. Our latest visit just reinforced what we knew. Excellent, extensive Plowman’s that would have certainly satisfied a hard working plowman of the 1920s, the affogato was good too… friendly and attentive staff and a calm relaxed atmosphere made for another memorable visit. May the George & Dragon continue to please for at least the next century!

We (4 of us) drove from Hertfordshire to West Sussex for the Easter weekend, we came across this idyllic pub in beautiful surroundings, so we decided to stop and have a drink and bite to eat. We asked about availability of ordering food, but the landlady said that she was short of staff and had a few big parties to cater for and was so apologetic that they couldn't accommodate us. We decided to stay and have a drink with these beautiful vistas. 5 minutes later the land lady appeared and said she'd had a word with the chef and he said that he couldn't see a problem with our booking. The food was delicious and very well cooked, very friendly and hard working staff, we'll definitely be back to try the Sunday roast.

Extremely traditional, in a good way. Sunday lunch to rival my Nan's and superior to probably ever other pub lunch. Beef dripping potatoes, sausage stuffing, cheesy leeks and perfectly cooked rare quality beef...good crisp yorkies. Bloody fantastic. You don't get that in many places any more; north, or south, though probably more up north. The pub itself is a quaint old thing from a time before even my great nana and with a bit of luck, it'll stay that way. Don't expect a thing if you want a modern take on things or if you're a veggie (my girlfriend is), but if you want to take a step back in time and enjoy proper English food, by a wood fire, as it should be enjoyed, I couldn't recommend this fantastic time machine more. The pork was chewy, potatoes dry and the veg was extremely tasteless Since eating there I have read more reviews that say the same.
