George And Helen's Fish Shop in Birmingham

This place is hands down one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve ever been to. From the second I walked in, I felt welcomed the owner was super friendly, chatting with customers and making sure everyone was happy. You can tell he really cares about his food and the people who walk through the door. the chips were hot, fresh, and just the right amount of crunchy and the fish was amazing. Nothing was overly greasy, and you could taste how fresh everything was. It’s clear they put effort into using good quality ingredients. On top of the amazing food, the service was incredible. The staff were so helpful and made sure I had everything I needed. If you’re craving proper fish and chips with great service and a friendly atmosphere, this is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back!

2 stars for the delivery was bang on time! Really sorry....it was disappointing. Wasted £££ large order. The large mixed meat was more like Xsmall...(& i ordered 2 😖) it was also salty. The large fish was ok but i think 2 mini fish would've been better value. The food didn't arrive hot. Close to £60 wasted, i should've had pizza 😖 i won't be rushing to chippy for a while

Refused to deliver to me …less than 3 miles down the road, Shame on you , Google says it’s 2.2 miles from my home to harborne high street… The owner is mistaken as well as rude

There was this really nice young lady (with glasses) that was serving me doner kebab on a Saturday, and as I am quite old, she was super understanding and patient with me. The atmosphere that this shop gives off is amazing I would definitely recommend.

Best tasting fish I've had in a long time.

In general place very OK but please train properly that young boy or do not leave him alone as he is easily stressed and massive queues everytime arising

George and Helens COUNT YOUR DAYS!!! I ordered donner kebab and chips, and when I didn’t see the kebab on heat, I asked if it was hot. The lady assured me it was, so I believed them. I got home, and the kebab was lukewarm to freezing. I was fuming! Took it back, and they offered me the same cold kebab, which I flat out refused and asked for a refund. The guy with black hair was so argumentative which I believe to be the owner?. He tried to show us steam, which is ridiculous and laughable —why show us steam when we are telling you the kebab was cold?! THE KEBAB WAS COLD, SIR! He kept trying to argue, but the food we brought back was right there evident for him to see. We did get a refund in the end. To the owners: you really need to step up your professionalism and quality. Your donner kebab lacks flavour, and it’s clear something needs to change with your supplier. Never argue with your customers. Every business should want returning customers but you clearly do not value that. I will NEVER return nor recommend. People, I know sometimes you’re hungry and desperate for something to eat but, save yourself the money/trouble and skip this place!

My girlfriend order mixed meat and chips new years eve i was outside with my dog watched the lady serve coughing in to her hand multiple times did not wash her hands or sanitiser picked up the meat with tongs and made a curry sauce coughed into the hand them same hand made the curry sauce and put the lid on i thought its only the outside should be fine, my girlfriends been ill foe the last 3 days not been aboe to eat new years day dinner and has been to the doctors today and she has food poisoning never ever coming to this place again i live round the corner told all my family neighbours and friends to never use this place again and we all agree the place is disgusting. For my local chippy what a joke ruined the new year..

First time trying out george and hens this evening as I've heard great things about it and I have to say it did not disappoint,the staff were friendly and welcoming,they had a nice little chat with us and the kids got a lolly which pleased them,when we got home we really enjoyed our food it was fresh and still hot and overall a really enjoyable experience will definitely be going back.

Really disappointed used to be a nice place but considering the prices the large fish was the size of a regular and the batter was soggy chips were all bruised and the donner kebab we orderd come like the paper my chips were wrapped which may I add had no grease paper in so most my chips stuck and was coverd in paper won't be returning md neither will my family

Purchased earlier this evening,mini fish, steak pie, chips & curry sauce . Mini fish fair, pie hardly warm , chips were just a load of scrag ends and cold . Watching the girl handle the pie it looked hot but it certainly wasn't. Poor show

Quick service, fish good size, perfectly buttered. Chips crisp outer, fluffy inside … excellent! Presented in a robust cardboard box. Very satisfactory all round!

I asked for a mixed kebab, never have I seen someone move so slow. The woman serving me realised there was no plain chicken left so rather than wait 2 mins for the boss to heat up some more, she just didn't bother putting it in. Not a care in the world, didn't ask if I'd mind waiting or having it without, just wrapped it up and sent me off. Won't go back, will stick to Harborne Fish Bar.

Been using this chippy since I was a kid and lived in Quinton. 35 years later I still travel over from Solihull to enjoy the best fish n chips in Brum.

I heard about this place I went to Quinborne centre for a meeting and went past this place. I had heard good things about it I had ate my dinner so just had a mini fish with a little chips. Costalo served me very friendly service. They seemed to be going through orders well. A nice family run place the fish was too notch and chips were nice. I will try sometime again I would recommend this place

I used to live on the West Boulevard in the mid 80’s. can’t wait to go back sometime. Remember going after school and getting a large chip. If memory serves me right it was 50p lol. But I’m sure it’s a little bit more now lol

I had not been here for a year but had been a frequent visitor from a young age however the shop has changed. Not quite as good I am Not sure if the previous owners stavros the son of George and helen has retired Fish not quite as crispy and chips a bit soggy

Where do I begin.. Ordered online (kebab and chips) and phoned up and added a bottle of coke with no issue..Prompt delivery and the delivery driver was amazing really polite with a big smile. The food...The best kebab I've had since moving to the area in march! Highly recommended will definitely be returning!

Walked in @ 20.15 with only 2 people waiting for food. 6 people behind the counter. I was completely ignored an walked out after waiting for service for 25 minutes

Ordered chicken & mushroom pie and chips, mini fish & chips and a chicken burger at 8:30pm on a Thursday and was not expecting perfection due to the time of day. There was 1 customer in the shop and my order took 25 minutes, there was a what looked to be a young lady training behind the counter but also 3 other staff. The chicken & mushroom pie was soggy so had obviously been thrown in the microwave and the chips were Luke warm and had no doubt been hanging around for a while behind the counter. For £17 plus I was expecting a little bit better quality than what we got. I will not be visiting again and will drive the extra couple of miles to Merchants at the top of Mucklow Hill, Halesowen as the quality is far superior to this place.

Visited a couple of time and food was excellent, had 2 previous deliveries and again food was excellent. Ordered for delivery today and was given 45 min estimate. Food arrived over an hour after order and was cold, I refused the order, within 2 mins I had a call from a man who was very unpleasant and told me not to order again. I won't be ordering for delivery or collection. A valuable customer lost.

🔴Absolutely disgusting! First the stuff workers are very disrespectful people the food is not clean as I found hair on my food couple time also the chicken is never cooked properly. Another thing is that the stuff workers are always arguing and shouting in the background,apart of that u see some of the female workers crying after they finish. Don't really know what's going on this place... Absolutely don't suggest anyone to go in there anymore as there quality is going down more and more everyday. ❌Wasted❌

Never ordering from this place again. Used to enjoy their food alot but ordered one day, came home, was enjoying the food as usual until there was only a little bit of food left and saw a dead spider. They literally fried this spider with the food. Absolutely disgusting. I dont care how good the food tasted their level of hygiene is clearly not a concern to them if this is happening. Health and safety is also at question. Never ordering from there again. Such a shame but they should really care about hygiene more then anything. Imagine if I didnt see the spider. Disgusting.

Quality has declined greatly. Chips were dry, fish was ok. Nothing like it used to be. Whilst I understand that there are price rises, it wasnt worth the money at all.

Been going here for a long time but sadly the food has gone downhill. Portion sizes alot smaller, served in boxes now most of it. Just like any other chippy. The chips used to be lovely but no real taste now. Staff still lovely just food not great now. I have had my fish &chips from here for the last12+ years and I’m sad to say I won’t be returning, my regular Friday night fish and chips which have always been a large portion was replaced by a box, same price but less food, very disappointing to see this chip shop going down the boxed product route. In my opinion this gives you less for your hard earned money. I know pricing/costs have sky rocketed but I never thought I would be getting such a small amount for my money. You can’t beat fish and chips in paper surely paper is cheaper than boxes?..

This is a really good chip shop i have only been once before until today but tried something i have never seen in another chip shop and was impressed so i will definitely be visiting again.

I was impressed by the saleslady, wecame with a group and shes very organised and helpful, and fish taste good and still cruchy after home, will come again!

Been coming here since I was a kid. Proper fish and chips. The branched out and started doing kebabs a few years ago as they was traditional before but I have to say they nailed it...

Food is great and the service even better. Asked if we were travelling far then offered to wrap our food in foil. They go the extra mile. In a city full of so many dodgy chippy's, this place is worth the longer journey.

When I first moved to the area in 2015 this was the best of an okay bunch of chippies (there are loads around Harborne / Quinton). Sadly the quality has gotten gradually worse to the point that I rarely go now. This place could be good again if the focus were placed on the quality of the ingredients and the final product with less focus on quantity (which is too generous for me). George & Helens has the best location so I'd love it to return to former glory.

Went in on a Sunday evening and ordered fish and chips.The fish I cannot fault plenty of flavour, good size portion and nice crispy batter.The chips however were really poor,very soggy and very greasy with very little taste probably about the worst chips ive ever had,reading other reviews can only assume I went in on an off day.

First timer today, staff member was very friendly and kind. 3 of us ordered cod and chips. Chips were next level! 10/10 Cod batter was the best Iv ever had. 10/10 Cod was perfect! 10/10 Staff member realised we were eating out in the car, she came over gave us napkins and folks. Thank You for the excellent service and we all enjoyed our experience at George & Helen’s.

Best fish & chips in Birmingham in my opinion, due to my job I travel all over the city and have tried many fish & chips shops but this place is my #1, food is always fresh and delicious. Service is always with a smile, the bald guy Tony knows his customers by name and always says hello. Shop is very clean and overall a pleasant experience every time.
