Quality food and service was excellent, staff so friendly and helpful, fully recommend this after phoning up late on a Tuesday afternoon

Went for Sunday lunch with family. Food was delicious, we had a selection of roast and fish between us. The choice of fish dishes on a Sunday lunch menu was what appealed as so often alternatives to meat are limited. Desserts were really good and filter coffee/tea included in set menu was a nice touch. Service was friendly and efficient, didn't feel rushed. Nice atmosphere and spacious seating. Would highly recommend.

An excellent Sunday lunch, served by very efficient and friendly staff who made us feel extremely welcome. Couldn't fault the meal - I had roast pork and my partner chose the nut roast. We selected the strawberry meringue for dessert. We have dined at the George and Dragon on many occasions and will be back.

Lunch at the George was very good. Three of us had haddock cooked just right with crispy batter, chunky chips and peas. The fish pie and a scallop starter were also praised as being tasty and well-cooked. The ladies serving were cheerful and attentive. Bonus was a lovely fire, very welcome on a chilly, damp day. While the pub specialises in fish the menu is varied with daily specials, so probably something for everyone. Doesn't break the bank either.

Christmas Dinner for a party of 6. Portion controlled!!! Beautiful pub /restaurant with a lovely interior with a warm atmosphere. The staff were really lovely and very welcoming and the service was very good. At nearly £23 per head for a two courses meal it appeared good value, but it was a little disappointing. The meat was like the thinly cut meat that was served at school dinners and not fresh turkey, which was a little disappointing.real fresh turkey cut off the joint.The lack of vegetables was an issue. The portions were quite small. A table of 4 adults were expected to share a soup sized bowl of mashed up carrots, which was about a table spoon each and 5 brussles between 4 people and a small dish of 5 brusslels and two tablespoons of mashed up carrots between the other two adults. My partner had to question the portions size as we did not have enough vegetables for 6 adults to share as these were child sized portions and inadequate. Another portion was brought out, but even that was small. Gastro pub or not a Christmas dinner should be filled with ample vegetables in the middle of the table to satisfy 6 guests and not give measly child sized portions out. Christmas pudding was nice, but again small and I had to ask for some more brandy butter for 4 of us share a little jug extra between us. I never anticipated going you a pub/restaurant to be so portion controlled ever where we all came away not feeling totally full or satisfied after a meal. What no Yorkshire puds or christmas crackers either!!! Happy Christmas.

We had a very nice meal and the staff were very attentive, with definitely return, parking can be a problem during busy periods.

We were visiting our friend and came for Sunday lunch first time in here and were amaized of the friendly atmosphere and how well we were looked after by the staff team😀. And...I had forgot my handbag 👜 on the way out. Poor lady was chasing us to return it back...what a truly honest person and the 6 stars service from the Pub. Thank you again and best wishes. It’s always a treat to visit the G and D. The food is superb, the service first rate and the atmosphere always good. I can see why it’s always busy. Maisie, Ange and all the team treated us like royalty, we had a great night

This visit was a birthday present for a friend. Four of us were there and unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. I choose skate wing and was unable to eat most of it, the fish was greasy and so were the chips. When I complained to the staff I was told that was how it should have been because it was cooked in black butter. I would have expected a little more compassion and perhaps a token amount off the bill.

We love the food at the George because we love seafood and the selection of seafood here is excellent ( though I’m assured their steak is also very good). Lobster, crab, prawns, whatever they are all tasty and beautifully prepared. The meals here are made even better by the amazing service, every member of staff make you feel like part of the family whilst providing first class service. Great place to visit

attractive pub with excellent food and a wide range of choice for the dietary challenged among us. WE were in the front part which is airy and pleasant.

First time visit. Lovely friendly welcome, extensive menu with a good selection of drinks including cocktails. Went for the steak night menu which is a bargain. I had the tuna steak and my partner had the rump and both were excellent and cooked to perfection..the onion rings are to die for. We were really full but just had to try Karen’s homemade rhubarb & apple pie and wow glad we did it was yummy. We will certainly be back. Thank you to Karen and the team

The George & Dragon (very dog friendly pub) was recommended to us by a local hairdresser. We were staying in Hardwick and were looking for a dog friendly pub to have a meal. We were not disappointed with the George & Dragon. We were greeted by friendly staff who totally made a fuss of our dog, bowls of water for the dogs as well as treats were provided. The food was amazing and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and locals, so much so we booked to go again the following evening. Well worth a visit if you are passing or in the area, even if you don’t have a dog.

We booked this venue having been told that they are renowned for their fish dishes. The pub is cozy and old with a huge inglenook fireplace with log burner and beamed ceilings. We were greeted by a smiling young lady who showed us to our seats and give us time to study the menu she also brought us a roll and butter. It was then we discovered the bargain. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 'pie and a pint' nights. This is what’s on offer for fifteen quid. A pie - meat or fish (I think there was a veggie option but not sure about that) with a side of veggies and a drink. The drink could be soft, beer or house wine. We both went for the fish pie. Filled with mixed fish in a sauce and dome topped with cheesy mash. It was delicious and my house red more than acceptable. Their standard menu is also available but we didn’t really study it. I highly recommend it, we'll be going back, Cheers!

A rare but winning combo of fine food and sunny staff in this pretty Cambs village.Fish dishes are the house speciality but other tastes are covered well.Stiff competition in this area known for its fine walking trails but worth visiting.

Staff were all lovely and helpful and the atmosphere was nice, classic British pub. However the food was pretty bad- didn’t taste of anything and was pretty watery (also found hair in the chicken gravy) Have been here before and the food was equally as bad as last time. We visited with our 3 children for dinner. We were so impressed with the quality of the food. The children had a salmon fillet each from the children’s menu and it was huge! The grilled plaice with leek and smoked salmon sauce was amazing as was the burger. The service was really friendly and efficient. Thank you to all of the staff for a very lovely evening. We were let down by the place we had originally booked for lunch and phoned up on the off-chance about 20 minutes before. The George and Dragon was completely unknown to us and an unexpected treat. Attractive, clean and tidy pub in a traditional rural location. Good service, well prepared food. Lockdown rules respected but without excessive dogmatism. Very courteous, efficient and friendly staff.

Of all the place we are missing during lockdown G&D is top!! It will be the first place we visit when things allow us to eat out. Stay safe

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely Lunchtime meal here in Octber.Beautifully cooked,well presented and very tasty.The service was vey good.The menu is quite extensive,with fish dishes well represented and some good choices of specials.I recommended it to a Motorcycle club I belong to and they had a club supper run there.Its now on the regular lunch for a great place to eat.

Every year we try to get together as a family prior to Christmas, to enable us all to have a nice meal out and see all the family at one time. We are a group of 18. We have just returned from the Sunday December Christmas lunch at the George and Dragon.The service was great, the food was lovely and everything was hot and nicely presented. Also my granddaughter has a gluten problem and they were very helpful ensuring she did not miss out on any food options.Also the quality and service was well worth the cost, which was very reasonable.So we will definitely be back. My partner and I visited the George & Dragon with my Twin Sister.It was my first experience at this venue.I have to say the experience was very nice.The staff are very friendly and helpful.The food was excellent and very reasonable.We all enjoyed the food and I like to thank "Nicole" & "Jamie" for the very friendly manner in which they served us and other other guests I the restaurant.It was a pleasure to have a nice lunch in comfortable surroundings.Thank You "George & Dragon".

Six of us had a lunchtime meet & meals all were excellent and the staff so helpful and friendly. I was advised to try the Skate ,Fantastic. Will all be back very soon.

We turned up on a quiet Saturday and were immediately made very welcome. My husband doesn't like fish, but there were plenty of alternatives and he chose lamb chops which were cooked exactly to his liking. My whitebait was really a starter but a more than adequate main course for me. We look forward to returning another day.

Went there on Saturday evening ith a family of four. We had 3x Fich and chips, one fisherman's pi,salad to share and onion rings.

Hadn’t eaten at the George and Dragon for years but as we live locally thought we’d give it a go. This was a family meal allowing us to spend quality time with our two grown up sons. The menu was extensive and interesting and we had a lovely evening. It wasn’t cheap, £150 for the four of us but it seemed to be value for money. However that night one of our sons was very unwell and ended up spending half of the next day in bed. We had all eaten the same food during the day and the only thing he had that was different was the fish pie at the George and Dragon. In my opinion it is highly likely that this was the cause. I emailed the George and Dragon explaining the situation. The reply gave me a list of the ingredients and went on to imply a degree of disbelief, suggesting we ask an overworked NHS to provide evidence. How we were supposed to do this on a Sunday beats me. I did point this out to the owner by email but received no reply.

A visit to the George and Dragon will not disappoint. We were there for Sunday lunch; always a popular time. However the service was first class, the food matched it and the wine was excellent. The menu choice was great and the portions matched it!. Excellent all round.

I was reluctant to write this glowing review as I felt if the G&D; became to popular it would be difficult to get a table. But the food and the service deserved acknowledgement for the hard work put in by both front house and the back.

We both had fish, plaice and seabass, cooked so well with great accompaniments and a raspberry meringue dish for afters - delicious 😋

First time at the George & Dragon. Good starter menu. Recommend the black pudding and chorizo. Great selection of fish dishes and food was so tasty. Crisp batter and good sized chunky chips. Staff were attentive and prices quite reasonable. All in all about a 4.5 rating.

Had a meal here last night and everything was spot on. Friendly staff. Lovely oldie woldie feeling pub. The food was outstanding.

Return visit from a previous visit some fifteen months ago which was very disappointing but I must say everything was of a first class standard the starter mains and sweets were served with great courtesy and the meals were fine will visit again as the standard appears too have improved

A much better experience than the last time I ate here. The bar and waiting staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a nice cosy feel with a wood burner.

Our first vist for late Sunday lunch to this traditional country pub set in a very attractive village 30 mintes away from Cambridge City Centre. The staff were very friendly and attentive for our whole visit. Our food was served piping hot and tasted delicious. They offer a Sunday 2 course or three course which includes tea/coffee/soft drink at reasonable prices.

Booked a meal here for a night in December with my friend. Food was excellent as was the service. No pressure to eat fast and service was excellent and efficient. The only drawback was that it took ages to get the bill and even longer to pay by credit card to the point where I half threatened to walk out.

The owner of 17 years has refused to install disabled toilets -breaching the Disability Act 2010 and earlier? 'until someone gives us a grant'. I recommend South Cambs Council refuse the pub licence until this is added even if only at the rear of the pub through the carpark!

Went for a Sunday lunch with my mom. We had shrimp tempura with chili dip and mussels they were both good but the mussels were amazing and such a huge portion! We had pork and roast beef dinners, both were delicious. We were seated in the best seats right by the fireplace which was wonderful.

My husband & I often drive from Cambridge to eat here on a Saturday evening. They have themed nights, when they serve such dishes as Lobster Thermidor, Fruits de Mer, Steak & Kidney pudding, etc. Last Saturday, my husband ordered the Steak & Kidney pudding, which was brought out on a small table to each diner as it was needed. It was huge & even each person's portion was more than ample! The pastry was light & the meat beautiful cooked. I rarely eat pastry, so opted for a chicken dish with a lovely thyme-flavoured sauce, crushed potatoes & seasonal vegetables.

Visited for a quick lunch with a group. Two had the set menu, which was very good value for two courses and coffee or tea included. All meals; whitebait and pate starters, scampi, roast and cod mornay mains were good size portions and freshly cooked. Mains served with enough fresh, hot veg. All in all very nice food. Service a little slow but she seemed to be on her own and it was fairly busy. Will come back if in the area.

Where to start? From my first meeting with Karen Beer, the constant communication and organising of a cake and flowers, and then the evening itself, the setting, the wonderful staff and then the superb quality of food, absolutely fabulous evening for my partner's 40th and would recommend it always. A very sad day when your favourite restaurant tries to poison your guts!!!! If you like your skate wing to taste of ammonia, then you have struck gold with this restaurant specialising in fish on Wednesday.

How disappointing, reminded me of school dinners. The meat was ok but the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard the veg portion was minute and came from little mixed packs and for a price of £14.00 a head very expensive for what you get.

Having never been to this pub restaurant before, we weren’t sure what to expect, but the lovely village setting equalled the lovely setting inside! We received a warm welcome, and drinks immediately ordered. With an air of relaxation and expectation of the cuisine to come, we sat at a table in the main bar area, after chatting to a “regular” of 93, who looked very much at home, and was enjoying her Sunday glass of wine. There was certainly an extensive choice from the two or three course Sunday menu, and if you were a pescatarian, then there was at least four different types of fish to be had. All our starters were very good and well presented. The smoked salmon and cured tuna was delicious. We all had something different each for mains, and I could have eaten any of them. The dressed crab was fresh and all that was left after consuming it was the empty shell! The roasts looked excellent, will definitely sample one of those next time. I cant see from other reviews how it is perceived as a “ready meal” – the Yorkshire were amazing, and the meat was lovely. It is very refreshing to go somewhere where they do not charge you extra for vegetables!! What you see is what you get and pay for, no hidden extras. The roast lamb and beef were beautifully cooked and plentiful. The Hake was well cooked and the sauce looked like a home made sauce not out a pot. Sometimes at other places for a sun roast you get a couple of slices. The George & Dragon do not stint on portions, but neither do they just slap stuff on the plate – the formula is spot on. The staff are all friendly and professional, looks like they are well trained on how to keep the customer satisfied. It was a lovely lunch and very pleasant sitting somewhere comfortable, ambient and relaxed. Compared to some gastropubs who churn out expensive plates, this is good quality eating for a great price. Its cosy, comfortable and relaxing, what more can you want at the prices. Would love to come back again even though its not local to us, to sample some of the other dishes on the menu, and also book for a xmas meal!

Brought the in laws here for their 61st wedding anniversary lunch. We all ate from the Friday fish menu. I had whitebait, hake with lobster sauce and chips. Best whitebait I have had, and hake pretty good too. Others had a combination of soup, haddock and puddings. All very good. Prices excellent for the Friday lunch combo. Quality first class. Will do this again.

Haven't been here for a while and visited yesterday evening. Surprised to see how quiet it was for a Saturday night but apparently there were more people in the main dining room. Service was excellent and on the whole the food was very good, well presented and served on warm plates which is always a bonus! Excellent menu choices and good selection of dishes including lots of fish and specials of lobster. I enjoyed the sea bass and my friend ordered the surf and turf sizzling plate from the regular menu. Tasty but although the meat and fish were good the vegetables (mostly sliced peppers with mushrooms baby corn) were very oily and a little too full of chilli which we mentioned to Karen and Paul. Desserts delicious, and will certainly be back again soon. Thank you for a lovely evening and on the whole a good experience. Will be back again to try some of the other dishes on this extensive and interesting menu.

My friend and I booked here for a midweek dinner. We both had a surf grill with a selection of fish and prawns. It was cooked beautifully. My passion fruit cheesecake was amazing. Manager (lady) was really nice and attentive. It was great to have such a large selection of fish choices on the menu. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely come again.

I was very disappointed with the roast- it looked like a pre packaged one. Shame as the people are nice, and the pub itself is pretty .

It’s a lovely setting, very-clean, staff were excellent but very much into carnivorous appetites. Fine, if you’re into that but only two main veggie options.

Pleasant surroundings. Very attentive to my gluten free and lacto free but therefore a very plain starter and for Main, the vegetables came afte asking, late and were not very tasty. Very reasonably priced but not best meal I have ever had.

Went for dinner as a party of five. Quite a lot of fish on a quite lengthy menu and there should be something for everyone but remember that this place is in a village maybe 10 miles from Cambridge so it has to be a little bit special to make a journey from town worthwhile. On a Thursday evening it was quite quiet. Food was competent but unremarkable. One of us ordered Eton Mess and got ice cream in a sundae dish with a piece of meringue plonked on top ! With the main course I had ordered a side of vegetables but it seemed that they had forgotten it although it appeared quite quickly after a prompting. There are so many eateries in and around Cambridge and I came away wondering why one would want to drive out here.nIf you live much closer, it's competent but I saw nothing in five meals to suggest that it is worth a repeat trip from town

Ended up here as another pub cancelled on us (chef was sick). Pub has been redesigned but is not overly comfortable. Bar staff friendly but were very busy and needed help. Food came out in good time and was just ok. Steaks were normal,not special and had the pate starter which was nice. Seafood pie lacking taste. Nothing special here.

Brilliant proper pub a stones throw from Cambridge services. Good service, lovely fish menu and tables outside. Definatly worth visiting on the drive down to London, beats a service station meal any time!

Booked in the week building up to Mothering Sunday. Accommodating enough for a table for 8 just after 2.30pm. Food was in no way gastro but assume 2-3 sittings in they were starting to flag. Staff certainly were. Was served a basic prawn cocktail with small defrosted prawns followed by lamb which was ok. Total for 8 and was reasonable but no more than value for money.

Sunday Lunch at the George and Dragon is a must! There is a set menu with around 8 starters and 8 Main Courses including Roast dinner. The Roast is fantastic, great portions of lovely meat and home made yorkshire puddings!! You never have to wait long for service and it all comes piping hot. If you have enough space for pudding there is something for everyone, all home made. The Sticky Toffee pudding is superb!! Always great service from all the staff. We have also been on a week night where the fish is fantastic. Couldn't rate this pub high enough, great English food.

A must to visit for a real Sunday Lunch.

I organised Sunday lunch for a party of 20 yesterday.The room was all set up when we arrived and we weren’t rushed into ordering and were allowed to wait for some late arrivals.We found the menu more varied than just the traditional Sunday lunch which was nice.The service was very good and the food hot and tasty,staff came back regularly to see if everything was ok.We all much enjoyed our visit and I would recommend it if you are organising for a large group I feel sure we will return again.

If you're looking for straightforward traditional pub grub this is the place for you. Great service, well cooked food and a nice ambience. Get there early though.

My starter of Prawns was very nice but the garnish of salad came wilted and no dressing offered.My main course of rack of lamb came up very pink after specifically asking for it to be well done in fairness after I had had some of the meal the waitress did offer a replacement but as they were so busy it would have meant a long wait for £70.00 per person I was disappointed and will not go again.

We've eaten at The George and Dragon three or four times over the past couple of months and will keep going back as long as they serve food to this standard. A really good choice for fish lovers (I'm not), but plenty of other options too. A good range of beers and wines make this an excellent choice for an evening meal out.

we received a casual welcome and had to wait a long time for attention .when we ordered the drinks several were not available and when they came a bottle had been forgotten.After 90 minutes the meal came Most thought was ok but my fish platter came there were no king prawn tails,only the heads .I complained twice with no effect.Over al it was good we were with a group as had we gone as a couple the service was so slow we would have after paying for the rather indifferent wine

About 30 of us gathered at this welcoming pub recently for a pre-booked birthday celebration. We arrived in all sorts of numbers and groups and not entirely on time. In spite of this, the George & Dragon's staff gave our group a consistently warm and friendly welcome.

Friendly helpful and efficient staff,excellent menu, being predominantly sea food but wonderfully prepared and cooked. would definitely recommend this pub restaurant to anybody especially seafood lover. Excellent meal and superb value.

Have been a few times and this time was almost as good, although the steak one of the party had was over-cooked. I went for the fish mixed grill and this was very tasty, with lots of variety.

... OK it was a quiet Saturday lunchtime but the service was fine and there was nothing wrong with the food. The G&D; delivered against promise so that means go back some other time especially as fish is a strong suit.

After returning to the George and dragon on several occasions now we have booked for Christmas Lunch.The set menu for weekday's changes daily is of top quality and very reasonably priced we do now go once a week as we find it hard to beat any where.Both the service and staff are excellent and I hope it keep this way .

Went for the seafood special we had seen advertised. Didn't disappoint a whole medley of lobster, crab, prawns and salmon. Side dishes of salads and potatoes also arrived. Add to this two desserts coffee and mints and overall value was excellent.

A family birthday meal on a Thursday evening was the occasion for visiting the pub.

There was a special lobster and seafood platter last night at £60 for two. This included a warm bread roll, Jersey Royals , samphire and asparagus, delicious home made dessert , coffee and mints. A 175m glass of Sauvignon Blanc was £4.35 The staff were friendly and welcoming and the place is olde world with a nice ambience. We will go again.

Being Fish and Seafood Lovers this is a must visit Pub/Restaurant when we get the opportunity to visit on a Wednesday night.

On this occasion they were very short staffed and the service suffered as a result. We have eaten there many times and usually been satisfied, perhaps it has changed hands ! We will give it another go and hope for an improvement.

Thursday night is pie night. 2 Course £ 12 - 50. Pate - very tasty though a little short
