I was in the UK a fortnight ago and drank at the Church End Brewery. The guy on the next table recommended the pub at Stoke Golding which is owned by Church End. He said the Scotch Eggs were amazing. On returning to the UK myself and two friends went for lunch today. The beer, Church End Brewery, was, as you would expect, absolutely excellent. The food, largely typical pub food was well presented and of good quality. The Scotch eggs were amazing. The Chef said that he made ten of them today and we consumed seven of them - including taking some home with us. Absolutely first-class. So where does the 'mostly' come in? We ordered sticky toffee pudding. Now this really should come with a Government Health Warning - it didn't! It wasn't sticky or sickly enough!! Also, on paying the bill, the card machine wouldn't take my card - a French bank card - but a 'Mastercard' - and it worked in a supermarket an hour later. The staff were hugely welcoming and hugely apologetic and embarrassed about the problem with the card machine!! Would we go there again? - absolutely - but we'd do without the pudding, pay cash - and take more of the Scotch eggs home with us!!

If you’re a real ale fan then this is the place for you. A selection of about 8 real ales to suit all palates. Lunchtime sandwiches were divine with the best white bread you can imagine. The ploughman’s platters were enormous but so very tasty. Go for the pork pie, best we’ve tasted in a while. Sadly, no food in the evening yet but worth checking out. Service was brisk if a bit unusual in these strange times as everything had to be ordered in a little hut in the car park if you’re sitting outside. Certainly made the waitresses work hard.

We often visit this excellent pub by boat for it is only a short walk from the canal. It is such a beautiful pub that we occasionally drive here too. It is the first pub to be bought and run by the Church End brewery and stocks at least 5 of their beers and we've never had one we didn't like! They only do food lunchtimes, Tues-Sat but it's all homemade - excellent steak and ale pies! Proper thin, shortcrust pastry - no lids of puff pastry and no voids of air either! They have a Summer fete on today and so have eight beers on! Amazing. Including Stout Coffin and two new ones, Mikes Meteor and Folka Cola, which despite its name, was rather good . As well as this huge range of ale, they also do plenty of cider (Thatchers Gold & Stowford Press) including a proper one , this time it was Dorset Nectar. There's a host of lagers, country wines and dozens of gins too. Dogs, children, ramblers all welcome. What more can I say, it just ticks all the boxes!

The pub was just lovely inside, a welcoming wood fire and very happy to have our dog come along with us. The menu looked great, simple, but just what we were looking for. "Fish pie without vegetables please" we ordered. We thought fish pie should have fish in it, we searched and searched under the pile of weird dried out lumpy mash that had been dumped on top of the sauce as an afterthought, and eventually found a piece, very disappointing. If there had been as much fish in there as there were peas, then it would have been a little more acceptable. The rectangular slice of vegetable lasagne that was served in an oval dish, wasn't fooling anyone. Dried out and sad. Such a shame as everything but the food was lovely.

Recently discovered this pub that serves beers from a small local brewery, does a good traditional range of pub food at lunchtime and has a friendly atmosphere. I have tried several of the beers, which tend to be pale in colour but also include an amber bitter and a dark stout and mild. My current favourite is a new bitter called Sideshow which I think is superb. We ate at lunchtime and had the gammon and faggots off the standard menu and a game pie which was one of the daily specials. The meat is all sourced locally and was excellent quality. The gammon came with both pineapple and an egg. The game pie was in its own small pie dish which is often a sign that it isn't really a pie, but a stew with a pasty lid cooked separately and added at the last minute. Not in this case! The pie was completely encased in a good shortcrust party, with plenty of meat and a good gravy served in a jug. A proper pie. Portions were generous and vegetables an interesting and imaginative mix, not just the usual boiled standards. The bars are comfortable with a wood burning stove and an interesting collection of a couple of hundred Toby jugs. In the evenings food is limited to pork pies and very meaty excellent sausage rolls. This is an excellent traditional country pub offering great beers and no nonsense good value food.

I love this pub, in the heart of lovely Stoke Golding this pub has it all.Great food, great beer and a great location. The pub is owned and run by a local independent brewery and they serve their own real ales, of which I have now tried a few! They also serve great simple food at a reasonable price. Their Ploughmans lunch is stonking.

It's always a pleasure to pop into the G & D. Many fine ales are always on tap and frequently changing. The pub looks delightful from the outside and is also very pleasant on the inside. A nice beer garden is also set up too. I'd fully recommend a visit to anyone.

What a lovely, traditional pub. Great choice of ales, beers and snacks. There is something for everyone and most are locally brewed. A small but very nice garden. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Found a bit of a gem here.

After a busy day it is great to find a "proper" pub to relax in. This is a friendly place with good beer and on a Friday night just full of folk chatting and winding down at the end of the week. great discovery.

I'm probably biased because this pub is in walking distance, but simple fact is that it is a wonderful, traditional country pub doing what a pub should do best: serving fabulous beer in a properly amicable atmosphere. I was so pleased when Church End Brewery took it over and long may it prosper.

I have been a Church End fan for years and waited impatiently for the renovation work at the formerly Ansells' pub to be completed and got over to the opening day pretty damn quick. I was not disappointed, and have become increasingly fond of the G & D each time I visit. The pub exudes tradition but is also bright and spacious at the same time. The beers are always excellent and the ever-present Fallen Angel won gold at the Great British Beer Festival this year. Lunch-time food is great quality and excellent value and is very well prepared and presented.Beers tend to change every week or so depending on brewery production so apart from the Angel it is great to see a variety of beers of all types when you visit. Lager and cider drinkers are also catered for and there is also a good selection of wines and soft drinks. There is a fair sized car park beyond which is a grassed beer garden with benches and tables for those sunny days so all are catered for. Back inside, the staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. It is so nice to have this classic/contemporary real ale pub within easy reach, and I just keep going back for a regular treat. Please give it a try, you will be glad you did!

There is a great choice of fantastic ( church end) beers here, which are all very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere. All in all this is a traditional pub, which is rare to find. This is somewhere you have to try and you will not be disappointed.

These days it is becoming harder and harder to find a 'proper' pub - small, friendly and convivial and preferably not too far from home. My partner and I have found that the George and Dragon ticks most of the boxes. There is no annoying music, no fruit machines flickering and jingling, it's clean and tidy if a little bland on the overall presentation but the big plus is the fantastic range of beers - after all it's a pub and the beer needs to be good. There's not much in the way of food so don't make the journey if you're looking to eat - that said they do a simple range of basics at lunchtime and there are 'Steak Nights' and Sunday lunches at certain times each month. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy some outstanding beer with maybe a pork-pie or a bag of the outstanding 'Pipers' crisps then there is little to disappoint here.I live almost 10 miles away and I've made it my 'local' pub of choice.

As a Church End Brewery pub, this place sells a superb pint, no disputing that fact. I'm informed that the wine and grub are both up to scratch as well. The staff are friendly in the whole and it's a great pub for a cosy winter ale. Come the summer it's a different story though. I've been visiting the pub regularly for the last three years and there is a real problem with dog faeces in the beer garden, to the point that we will no longer take our kids there on a hot day, it's just not safe to let them in the grassed area (largely put there to cater for families I assume). I fail to see how this can't be checked and remedied on a daily basis, not only from a customer satisfaction point of view, but also from a health and safety perspective. I'm fully aware that the issue is created as a result of inconsiderate dog owners, but the owner has a duty to make sure that the facilities are fit for purpose and they certainly aren't in this respect. Please, please, please sort this issue out, ideally by banning the *insert expletive* that let their animals foul. It's a real shame that such a great local can't cater for families.

Being a local family and a big fan of real ales we were very pleased when this place opened. Whilst the beer and ambience is good, they just seem to have a 1970s atitude to families with children. They have a no children whatsoever after 7pm policy which is so rigorously enforced that I, along with my wife and two quiet well behaved children were asked to leave without even taking a sip of the drinks we had just ordered (having called in after a walk one evening in the school hols - prob 7.30pm). As a result we do not use the place, and a number of other families within the village have taken the same standpoint. Clearly this is not a local pub for local families.

Being a self proclaimed connoisseur of beers (:-)), this pub is amongst the best I have ever been to. The beers come from the 'Churchend Brewery', which is an award winning microbrewery, not far from the pub.The beer choice varies, depending on what the brewery is currently offering, and includes a guest beer too. I also concur with the other reviewer's comments on the quality of the food, and have tried their Sunday roast on several occasions, and never been disappointed.I'm only glad that this pub is a fair way from where I live, as I would feel duty bound to drink copious amounts of beer!

Stoke Golding is a small village where Henry VII was crowned after the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. This pub is an example of a British Pub where time has almost still. But it is extremely comfortable with a terrific atmosphere - there's even a library, and the food is fantastic. There is a wonderful choice of ciders as well as beers, all with reasonable prices. Friendly staff made it a real pleasure to be there. I will no doubt visit again! I'm surprised that no one has written about it on Trip Advisor before
