An excellent and popular local pub, serving good food and generous portions. Well patronised, even mid-week, so booking ahead is recommended. We have visited many times when staying at Rose Cottage in the village, and it has never let us down.

Came across this pub by accident (actually several on the A1 and other B roads). We were surprised to see game on the specials board so had the pheasant and partridge (very rare anywhere as it is usually taken home). Both were very well cooked and the service was excellent. Ignore the battleship grey F&B painted walls that normally indicate somewhere trying too hard, this place is a real gem.

Better than Pub Grub, very tasty food food, with above average portion sizes in a nice Pub at a reasonable price - Gentleman who served us was excellent. If I stay in the area again I am definitely going again - Had the Suet Pudding which was excellent, but so was the lamb and someone else was raving about the Beef salad. The Bailey Cheesecake was generous and also very tasty Well worth a visit.

You can tell a superbly run pub restaurant when, at peak periods like Mother’s Day, the service operates in exactly the same way. A warm welcome, shown to seats, orders taken and executed accurately, food of the highest standard, delivered piping hot. What a team! Every main course and every dessert plate went back empty. Few places are able to achieve this level of excellence and handle such busy-ness so calmly. 👏👏👏

The Generous Briton is consistently and outstandingly good in regard of both food and service. I have been eating there for years, and have NEVER had a bad experience, even when they are really busy, which is often, (best to reserve a table to avoid disappointment). The menu is varied and has something to offer for every taste/diet. Today, I chose smoked cod and broccoli pancake in cheese sauce which was fabulous. My sister went for the belly pork which was also fabulous. The crackling was crunchy without breaking ones teeth, perfectly cooked and presented. I wish we had remembered to take photos I highly recommend a visit.

The Generous Briton is a lovely traditional country pub. We visited for Sunday Lunch. The interior is charming and well decorated, with beamed ceilings and jacquard curtains on the windows. There are two outside seating areas, one covered, and parking at the side. The service was excellent, food was hot and the food faultless. Would definitely dine here again.

Our first visit here and can’t wait to come back. I’m a little biased towards game as I pick up with my gundog during the season. But three game dishes to choose from?! Unheard of. I opted for the ballotine of pheasant with cranberry stuffing, wrapped in bacon and served with the most delicious red wine sauce. Creamy mash and three veg came with the dish for a ridiculous £14. Incredible value. It was the best pub meal I’ve had in years and was better than a Christmas dinner. The waiter said that game’s most likely on the menu until mid to late February so we’re definitely coming back, despite the hour’s drive. Oh yes, my wife lived her home made suet pudding. I can’t recall enjoying a pub meal as much as this. Great service throughout, a warm welcome but the chef wins the day for turning out food like this. 👏👏👏

En route to Norfolk, we called here by chance, we needed to give the dog a walk and spotted what looked like a plain and uninspiring pub. What a surprise! Inside the decor was very acceptable and the barman and landlord (I think) gave us a pleasing welcome. Such a change to see a varied menu in addition to the the usual items. Good home cooking, fresh vegetables, the food did not feel like it had been put together, as in so many places, by someone who is not a real chef. Great value for money. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Substantial portions, hot, tasty and served very nicely. Staff could not have done more for us; very charming and genuinely friendly. Hoping to call again on our return journey and we will recommend to friends and family who also travel this route.

We were recommended by a B&B; we were staying in a couple of miles away. We in to be greeted with full tables or reserved signs everywhere in this very popular quaint pub so we took a seat at the bar ordered a couple of drinks and asked about a table. A very obliging young man said he’d sort us something if we didn’t mind a little wait. From there the experience just got better and better. The two friendly young bar tenders/waiters both attentively worked their pleasant socks off, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality dining experience. My friend and I both had specials and they were both delicious. Even when they ran out of a sweet item unlike most places who then leave you wanting they replaced it with something as equally appetising. One young man, one young lady and a Chef (age unknown) provided the perfect dining experience in this gem of a find. It’s situated just off the A17 between Newark and Lincoln and well worth finding. If going Saturday evening or Sunday lunch book in advance.

Had lunch here with a friend after visiting the local church. Very generous portion sizes and excellent prices. It was full by 12.30 of people who seemed to have walked there suggesting a good local clientele. Usually a good sign

After a long mornings work from 2am to 1pm I arranged to meet my wife for a chilled drink before heading home. We decided to meet and try out our local pub, The Lincoln Green as we understood it is under new owners and would like to support it.. Sadly on being asked if we were drinking only I was asked if we would go into the bar area. The lady was friendly and I have absolutely no issues with her as this is obviously(in my view) a very misguided policy. I informed her that we would not wish to do that as in the past we have found it cold with wooden floors which when the football is on makes it noisy. I have no issues with this in general as I enjoy watching football and make special trips to do so at pubs for the atmosphere but on this occasion myself and my wife just wanted a quiet, comfortable drink together. I explained this and added that the comfortable restaurant was totally empty. We were offered the chance begrudgingly to sit tucked around the corner as a large table(15 which soon turned to 8) was expected shortly. She declared that on this occasion we could but she had to state she couldn't promise in the future. I told her that we wouldn't waste our time trying in the future. We will just go straight to the CENTURION or HARROWS where we know we can sit in comfort and nice decoration for a quiet drink. Things I don't understand-1) if I was eating I would much prefer some atmosphere with some drinkers as opposed to an empty restaurant. 2) Had it been 11.30 with the possibility of a full restaurant I can understand not wishing to take tables but this was 2pm and totally empty. 3) we were not a noisy group who would be shouting and swearing and could spoil someone's dining experience 4) Surely a pub should be able to cater for diners, sports and football fans AND couples hoping for just a nice drink. Sadly, unless this policy changes we will not be back(unless to watch the football)
