Amazing place I ordered a chip bitty and a small chips and let me tell you the chips were massive and the fish butty was the size of a whole meal staff were super nice and friendly 10/10 would highly recommend

Well I didn't think there was anywhere better than my regular fish shop and that includes Murgatroyds until I tried these guys today. Absolutely the best I've tasted in a long time 5* all around.

Without shadow of a doubt the tastiest fish & chips I've ever eaten served by the friendliest staff. The fish cooked to perfection wasn't heavy on batter but was generous on fish. The chips were excellent too. Highly recommend. We'll be back soon.

I visit Otley about twice a year and i was there today so called in. I have to say the chippy is spotless the food is always fresh and the staff are super friendly. There's usually some specials and actually all the prices are really good. Most items are cooked to order. There's some seating inside and also some picnic benches outside. Napkins and forks on the counter to help yourself. Server allows you to do your own S & V which i think is really good. Id recommend this chippy in a heartbeat. Fab food and staff. Cooked fresh. Spotless and immaculate facility. See you again soon!

Not sure if we were just unlucky but the fish and chips we received were unlike any other I have had in my 40 yrs of eating fish and chips - dark brown in colour not golden by any stretch of the imagination with lots of scraps mixed in. Might be a response to inflation and a desire to make the oil last longer but definitely not the best fish and chips I have ever had!

I used to buy fish bites from here, they were a generous portion & very tasty. Unfortunately last time i went in & bought the same i was very disappointed. The portion was very small, & nothing like they used to be, so now i go elsewhere, so many other fish & chip shops in Otley to choose from.

The chips were overcooked and tasted of dirty cooking fat On a previous visit the chips were undercooked They just can't seem to get it right Today’s were inedible so will not be going back especially when OTLEY has other Fish & Chip shops

Driving through Otley on Friday 20th November after visiting Smiths Garden Centre, on approaching the fish shop we both had the inspiration to have Fish and chips , and take the to the Chevin car park overlooking Otley . We had the best Fish and Chips ever eating out of the paper plenty of salt and vinegar. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. 1st class David and Cathy .

As my title, my friend wanted a sit down and was going elsewhere until we realised there’s few seats in the window. So we sat and ate and watched the World go by up and down GAY LANE. My what a busy place. Food was tasty, maybe my friends fish cake was yesterday’s fish but all in all we enjoyed our food. We are more than happy to come back. A good experience in Otley. Then back to the traffic, not so good. Makes you appreciate home.

Thought I had reviewed this chippy before, but can't see it. Otley has a range of chip shops, none that bad (from memory), but not a single one stands out massively above the others. So choice is a matter of location and specific requirements. I wanted to mention Gay Lane Fisheries as - having been in today - I see that the ownership has changed. The good news is that everything seems as good as before. So good luck for the future!

Excellent food, fish cooked to order - and a decent portion. I just great honest food with no pretence. Owner chatty and social - I will most certainly return.

Definitely worth the short extra walk from Otley Centre for the only Otley chippy with 5 stars. Tasty, very friendly and very good value. Plenty of scraps ready and waiting, scampi was nice and they had even put on Mars Bar and Haggis Fritters for any local Scots and the kids. Plenty of nice laid back pubs with beer gardens nearby too.

Call up 15 minutes before advertised closing time to put an order through. Happy to accommodate, kids meals and adults sausage meal. Never had a bad meal from here. Very friendly owners who have always got time for a chat to customers. Highly recommend

This fish and chip shop is wonderful. Everything is cooked freshly with a nice batter coating and moist fish inside but the only downside I found is that the fish isn’t given time to drain before it is wrapped, so is soggy by the time it gets home. If it is eaten there and then it would be perfect. However, that DOES NOT stop us from going there and having a delicious meal. Due to the location, parking is difficult so I suggest parking in Sainsbury’s and nipping around the corner. Writing this makes me want to have their lovely haddock for dinner tonight but it’s Sunday and they’re closed....boo, hoo. The best in Otley. Yum yum.

Recién cocinado con pasta encantador fresco el pescado es siempre bueno, y ser un titular me encanta el hecho de que puedo comprar una porción más pequeña, pero aún así conseguir buena relación calidad precio. Otley tiene una buena parte del pescado de buena calidad y tiendas (y el chip raro malo también) pero la pareja que dirige este chippie probablemente tomado Gay Lane pesquerías a la parte superior de la pila y merecen una enhorabuena.El cocinado pescado son fantásticas, las patatas fritas son perfectamente cocinado y abundante y el servicio es impecable y amable.Cualquiera que visite Otley este verano que quieran una buena porción de pescado y patatas fritas debe tomar dos minutos a pie del centro de la ciudad a lo largo de Gay Lane y regalarse, no te decepcionará.

Si no tienes un gran apetito, entonces puede pedir media porción de patatas fritas para el chip completo que sirve es muy generoso! Nos gusta ir allí y que merece una visita.

Mighty fine fish and chips. Excellent quality. Hot meaty fish. Able to put on own salt and vinegar. Nearby parking meant easy visit for a good reasonably priced lunch on a cold day.

Nos vamos a comprar pizza cuando entramos pasado aquí en 8. 30:00 los viernes en diciembre. Excelente para encontrar una tienda de chips abren hasta tarde (pasó a chippies que permanecen abiertos hasta las 11:00 todos los días cuando era niño? ). Los peces pequeños...

I always buy my fish and chips here as I work right next to it. The quality is always top notch and they are one of the cheapest around. Make sure you are hungry though as the portions are very generous but they offer small fish and chips too.Definitely worth a visit if you like traditional fish and chips. I called in here for a quick lunch, so ordered the small fish and chips. It was cooked fresh to order and was well worth the short wait. The fish was excellent, a light but crisp batter that wasn't greasy with chips that were fluffy inside with a great texture. The portion was just right for lunch and was a bargain at under 3 quid. Service was very friendly too, I'll definitely be picking up some fish and chips again next time I'm passing through Otley.

We have been visiting here for several years and have never been disappointed. The people are friendly (I think they run the business) and the food is great value and excellent quality. The choice is excellent and 'down to earth'. Not surprisingly the chip shop is always busy but the food is fresh and does not take long. We are always impressed by how this chip shop can make such good chips when many (most?) other chips shops seem to struggle. This is probably our favourite chip shop, but sadly we live 50+ miles away. The lucky people who live in Otley and like brilliant chips need to head to Gay Lane chip shop.

We are regular visitors to this Fish Shop. The couple that run it are friendly and welcoming, the fish are cooked to order and the prices are exceptionally cheap. Mus have eaten here over 50 times and never had a bad meal yet. Strongly recommended.

Fantastic! So cheap and tastes double the cost. Most fish n chip shops in Otley are over priced. The staff are so lovely. They work incredibly hard and in surprised at how they manage to stay open with the prices they charge. Must be because they are so good.

Me and our kid every Saturday on the bus for Otley . There is a fish shop called gay lane fisheries the fish excellent. The couple who own the shop they are lovely. The fish is fresh and cooked while you wait.All the time we have been going the fish has been spot on.We get a warm welcome.and they always ask us how is sunny Harrogate.. see you saturday.

Visiting for the day from Manchester and had fish, chips and mushy peas at this wonderful little chippy. The menu is very basic which means that the owners can concentrate on making the very best in fish and chips. No burgers of any kind or battered bats-wings or a menu a mile long, as in so many other establishments.To do fish and chips well you need to concentrate on just that, FISH and CHIPS; nothing else is necessary; but so many other chippies miss that point, especially here in Manchester.The lovely husband and wife team know this and it shows in the excellence of their product.Someone should tell HARRY RAMSDEN's to visit here and then they (HR) would know why they have lost the plot.Simply faultless; no other words to describe the place..KeithSALFORD

this is a great fish and chip shop the food is superb you can call to the big ones in yeadon and guiseley but this place can not be beaten the staff are superb and the prices are very good ok it is not a restaurant although you can eat inside i think it is better to take the f/chips out and eat them out of the paper

This is a good chip shop on the main road. Parking is only available in Sainsburys car park, a few steps away. The Polish (?) owners are very friendly and efficient and the portions of chips are huge, usually having to say stop or ask for a half portion, which still feeds 2 people. Several items on the menu, with smaller portions available, all at reasonable prices. A good alternative to eating out or cooking yourself.

Gay Lay Fisheries is run by the loveliest, friendliest people you will ever meet. They seem to know everyone and are really chatty. The fish is cooked to order so you may have to wait a little while but it's fresh for you. The portions are good and very good value.

Visited Gay Lane fisheries today and was more than pleasantly surprised. Although it's not a restaurant as such space is provided inside to eat your meal. large stools are placed alongside a shelf by the window where it's possible to sit and savour your fish & chips ( or whatever else you've chosen from the menu. ) It is just a typical "Chippy" - nothing fancy at all - but it doesn't claim to be.....it's a Chippy! The fish however was first class. The batter was cooked to perfection and the haddock inside lovely chunks of white meat. Although the chips looked rather underdone they tasted just fine - probably the colour was due to the type of potatoes used. The main thing was the meal had a PROPER YORKSHIRE taste to it unlike some other fish & chip shops that fry in cheap oils. The owners ( I think ) are Polish so it was a lovely surprise to learn they'd done their homework and cooked fish & chips that beat many other fish shops locally. If you want fish & chips fried with the traditional taste then this is definately the place to visit - but don't expect the Ritz.....it's just a chippy.....but a GOOD ONE!!!
