Gaucho - Richmond in Richmond upon Thames

I ordered a Sunday roast and a birthday cake when making a reservation on OpenTable three days before my visit, but I never received a response. On the day of my visit, the Sunday roast was sold out. Since my husband had been looking forward to it, his birthday ended up being a disappointing one.

Oh Dear 😍 everything was perfect, starting from the very beginning to the end. We already booked our anniversary celebration here. I would like to thank Stanislava, such a lovely lady she is. We hope she will be there to serve us another time. She is professional, friendly and really helpful when it comes to recommendations. Thanks a lot once more. We will be back really soon ❤️

Welcoming, accommodating, friendly, informative and delightful

We have heard nothing but good reviews about this restaurant, so we wanted to give it a try for Valentine’s Day as it seemed the right occasion and decided to go with the valentines set menu. The decor and look of the restaurant was stunning, however the service and food did not match. The service was very slow and was sat for quite a while waiting for our food, once the food did arrive we was shocked to find the starter was to share, which definitely was not enough for one person so ended up ordering another starter off of the standard menu. The steak we ordered was exactly the same, barely enough for one person and even though ordering it medium well it came out near enough rare. I’m not a fussy person when it comes to it but for a steak restaurant you would think they would be able to get the steaks cooked to what you have asked for. The shining part of the night was the desert and even that was to share, so while leaving still rather hungry and quite disappointed, for how much I had paid for the evening I don’t see myself coming back. All in all a very disappointing experience.

Overall good experience. The red wine needed to be cooler (room temperature was too warm for that Malbec). We had the large 900gr t-bone which was good but undercooked and like warm when it arrived.

Not what it used to be. Service was excellent but couldnt make up for the dry sea bass, cold broccoli etc, worse dessert. Not worth the price even after a discount to make up for poor food. Sadly - Dont think we will come back …

Agata was amazing. She chose a delicious red wine for us. The steak was yum and perfectly medium rare. The sauces and chips were perfect. Loved it

Lunch outside in the rain before watching the rugby at Twickenham but under cover with heaters which worked well, service was outstanding and friendly, and food and Guinness were delicious. Nice touch putting previous week’s match on the TV to get us in the mood. Thank you!

Always a great evening at Gauchos in Richmond, fantastic cooked steaks and fab cocktails. We were really well looked after by Valdis, who gave some good recommendations with puddings and cocktails.

Gaucho is our favourite place for a special meal. The service is always completely faultless. The staff are friendly, thoughtful and welcoming. The food is fantastic as are the cocktails! And you simply can’t beat the location, in summer or winter it’s the best place in Richmond to sit,eat and watch the world go by.

Got my girlfriend to try her first steak here ( We got the Tira De Ancho), it was almost as amazing as Anton’s service, he really made the night memorable for us, we will definitely return to Richmond !

We went to Gaucho Richmond for the two course winter set lunch menu. We tried the beef tacos and prawn chicharrons for starters and the rump steaks for mains. We also got a complimentary cheesecake for our anniversary which was lovely. Our whole experience from the time we got there until the end was outstanding. Our server Anton was friendly, polite and efficient. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will return soon

Stunning location, set right on the Thames with a beautiful riverside walk coming into the restaurant. Glen, the manager, gave us a warm welcome, and Oksana made my wife’s birthday dinner absolutely perfect with her amazing service, going above and beyond to explain to us what was halal compatible and more. We had some incredible food and it was a night to remember. The restaurant is on the quieter, more cosier side of vibes, which was perfect for us.

We came back to celebrate our anniversary of getting engaged (we came here last year too) and it’s only gone from strength to strength. Valdis was incredible and couldn’t have made us feel more welcome, a truly amazing member of the team 10/10. The manager also made sure to come over and interact with us which was a really nice personal touch, makes everyone feel extra welcome. They gave us a lovely compliment dessert as well for the celebration - Valdis even picked it specially after I said I was very full so he chose a light and fruity pudding which was absolutely perfect! They truly anticipated everything we needed and had it there before we had to ask. Can’t wait to come back

This was such a lovely venue to have a relaxed lunch. The whole experience was welcoming and unhurried. We had a complimentary glass of bubbles - such a lovely touch. We all chose steak for our main - and it was delicious. The starters looked terrific and so well presented. I had the gorgeous pancakes for my dessert. There was a good range of sides and a clear wine list. The facilities were excellent - the toilets clean and well stocked. There was a friendly but not intrusive service, even a follow up check by the smartly suited young man. We felt valued from the coat check to the warm goodbye. We'll be back in the summer to enjoy the lovely terrace.

Food was amazing and quickly served, and the atmosphere was beautiful but the service definitely stood out for us!! Anton was absolutely incredible, and put lots of care and effort in his service. would definitely recommend!!!

Valdis was amazing during my visit! The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the drinks on arrival hit the spot. I’d honestly return again just to have the Valdis experience.

I took my mother here last Saturday to celebrate her birthday, and we both were overwhelmed by the level of kindness in this place. The food cannot be beaten, but above this, we were looked after the entire night by a young man called Anton, who did not fail to make my mothers birthday meal run as smoothly as possible. From his attentiveness to our food preferences to a smooth organising of a birthday dessert on the house, this service truly left my mother to feel special and me grateful. As someone who is also expecting, their selection of mocktails did not disappoint! Thank you again Gauchos and a special thank you to Anton, we will see you again soon!

Strange ambiance. The light above our table was too bright. The food was well cooked but lacked a lot of flavour for the price. Was very bland.

My wife and I really enjoyed the food, the service was fantastic and the views and atmosphere were lovely. Great to see it's a dog friendly venue so we'll definitely be back in the near future with our 2 boys and our 4 legged friend.

We were regular customers. Sadly, last two occasions were failures with Gaucho for us. Yesterday our daughter turned one and it was very sentimental for us. We chose Gaucho as a family dinner place and Anniversary menu looked good. Sadly, it all went wrong and ended up being a completely ruined evening and special occasion for us. 1. My husband's ordered drink arrived wrong 2. My husband's ordered main arrived wrong too 3. Sides got cold while waiting for his corrected choice of main to arrive 4. His choice arrived not what he expected. It was literally Cornish pasty pie by taste and look and not what he invisioned as lightly breadcrumbed tender steak 5. For our 1yo tiny daughter we ordered macaroni cheese side. This arrived as kids menu portion with 3d extra portion of chips (we already had 2 main portions). Are you for real? Cost extra and who would give chips to Babies! We needed just few pieces of pasta for her tiny tummy. Not £9 pasta 6. We were not feeling welcomed or special, more irritation. For such a special family dinner! 7. Bill came wrong too 8. Not even one side included into anniversary menu! All extra cost 9. We didn't have a chance to blow daughters 1st candle! A month ago I ordered a table for Sunday roast for my Son's birthday. Guess what! Sunday roast was finished at 2 PM even though it should run till 5. We left disappointed. All other upmarket restaurants finished Sunday roast as we would need to walk to them. We ended up in Bingham. But really disappointing and hectic what was supposed to be a nice meal. Sorry GAUCHO, you failed us on already two occasions.

Visited Gaucho Richmond on Thursday 9th Jan @ 1pm. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for a relaxing lunch. A few customers dotted around the restaurant which gave it a cosy feel. Music was at the right level and the choice of music was perfect. Staff very professional, efficient and attentive. Food amazing and a good size for a 2 x course lunch. Felt very fresh and tasty. Overall highly recommend. Planning to bring my family back in May to celebrate my sons 21st birthday, Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Popped in for a drink with family and ended up staying for lunch seeing place filling up despite freezing temperatures outside. Service was amazing, kids friendly and accommodating. We went just for mains and 400gr rib eye for me was more than enough to fill up with couple of sides. Incredible meat quality. Place must be packed summer time as they have nice terrace overseeing the river. This one goes to my shortlist for the area.

The food was absolutely delicious. The steaks were a big hit as was the sea bass. Brownie not so good but the other desserts were great. Only negative was that we were celebrating our sons 18th and they forgot until after we had had our desserts when they then brought us a cheesecake with a happy birthday message. A bit late in our opinion. Apart from that it was great and we will certainly visit again.

We've been coming here for years as particularly our anniversaries- one of our fav restaurants! This year we brought our 2 children to celebrate our anniversary as we weren't able to get a babysitter this year. In previous years we've always been given a tiny token dessert that said 'happy anniversary' and this year we didn't. I always enjoy the photo as a memory. The service was very slow. We felt we waited a long time for dirty plates to be taken away in between courses and we weren't asked to order wine after we finished a glass of champagne to start. We would have happily ordered if we'd been offered. My girls had a little oil on the table from their steaks and we would have thought the table would be cleaned a bit better for dessert/coffee etc. the team were very nice but it felt like attention to details was missing as we weren't even there during the main rush time. The food was flawless as usual- the new January menu was delightful (prawns to start, steak and the pancake to finish) and we were lucky to win the OpenTable offer. We would of course eat here again as it's a special place to us but only sharing our experience today. Thanks for a wonderful meal- we had a nice time.

Me and my fiancée popped in for lunch this afternoon after realising they were dog friendly! Absolute game changer knowing this, the staff were very attentive, knowledgeable on what they’re selling and really friendly. We got speaking with the manager who was great and asked if our whippet would like some off cuts of beef, he came back with a big bowl for her which was the icing on the cake for this place! Thank you to all staff members, the food was absolutely bang on from the lunch menu with some extra sides! Waddled out of there in the end! Thanks guys and we’ll be back for the Sunday roast

Booking went all smoothly, I received a call back to confirm - all ok. We arrived in time and opted for the fixed menu offer. The starter was barely okay. We ordered the prawns and the beef tartare. The first one was cold and a bit too spicy and the tartare had lots of mayo with the meat. For the main course, we both choose the stake. The meat was indeed great, but the sides were not as good: the 'handcut chips' were worse than McDonalds and burnt and the salad didn't have a great dressing. The salt and pepper on the table are so small (mini) you can barely use them! Not sure what would be the reason for choosing these... For the desert I opted for the Argenine one with fruits & crumbs, to discover the fruits were from the can. Service was good, everyone polite and attentive. The overall athmosphere didn't have any of the warmth one would expect very early January (after the New Year/ Christmas holidays). No candles, nothing. A bit dull - all black with some mirrors and framed posters. Perhaps during the summer the terrace makes this place unique. Long story short: it was ok, but not to the level of expectation set by the brand.

Excellent steaks. Chips were a bit of a disappointment. We had the steak tartar tacos to start which were amazing.

Great chorizo starter, great sirloin steak perfectly cooked and a surprisingly good baked cheese cake that I can highly recommend.

The steak was good, cooked to perfection, but a bit overpriced for what it is. Sides are tired, chips aren’t the best, they need to make a change, small portions and sometimes burnt. Mushrooms were ok. Not bad, but not quite worth the cost.

Me and my family dined at Gaucho, Richmond for my birthday and the whole experience was excellent. This was largely because of Melvin who provided an impeccable service from the moment we sat down until the very moment that we left. It was our third time visiting Gaucho, Richmond and by far the most memorable visit to date!

The Sunday roast was amazing, and our host, Liam, was outstanding. He was attentive and made sure that we had a top-up on our roast. His timing for each course we had was impeccable. It was the best customer service I've experienced in a long time. I will definitely visit again because the customer service was 10/10.

The atmosphere was very good. All staff is extremely nice and professional, especially Yolanda, our host. Everyone were really looking after us here. We had chateaubriand which was nicely prepared. Side dishes and drinks were amazing as well. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner with family and friends.

My partner and I just had the most amazing lomo at Gaucho Richmond—it was absolutely stunning! The duty manager and the table server were both very kind, but there are a few areas I feel could be improved. We decided to dine at Gaucho because this month is my birthday. A friend of mine booked the reservation for us through The Fork app and applied a £50 Yums discount to the booking. She had provided all the necessary details via The Fork, which I assume would have been communicated to Gaucho Richmond through the platform. When we arrived, I informed the hostess at the front desk that we had a reservation under my friend’s name. She quickly located the booking and then asked me if there was a special occasion. I was a bit confused at that moment (wondering if the occasion wasn’t already mentioned in the booking details?), but I assumed she just wanted to confirm, so I told her it was my birthday this month. However, she remained silent with no reaction whatsoever. By the time we left, there had been no acknowledgment or gesture to mark the occasion. (We only received two glasses of champagne later, but that was due to billing issues at the front desk, which I will elaborate on below.) When it came time to settle the bill, the £50 Yums discount from The Fork app was not applied. This forced me to contact my friend, who is currently travelling in South America, to verify the booking details, all because the front desk staff did not handle the matter professionally. Since I couldn’t immediately reach my friend, I explained the situation to our table server, who kindly checked with the front desk. Only then was the discount finally applied to our bill. This back-and-forth caused unnecessary hassle and frustration, especially as this information should have been prepared and handled in advance. I strongly recommend additional training for the front desk staff to ensure they are better equipped to manage such situations and provide a smoother customer experience.

I have been to Gaucho in Manchester and Leeds and this one beats hands down. The location is lovely on the river and the food was sensational. The steak was cooked to perfection and the staff were amazing. We would definitely return!

I was here with my friend, we were greeted so warmly by Caitlin who showed us to our window view table. I had the rump steak with mash potatoes, food was delicious. We all absolutely loved the legacy menu. Such good value for 3 courses with no less quality than the main menu. The picsana steak was phenomenal, starters and pudding were also excellent. Service was friendly and attentive with a great restaurant ambiance. It’s a return visit for us and I’m sure we’ll be back again.

Absolutely incredible experience! This steakhouse exceeded all expectations from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a special night out. The service was impeccable—our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations. Now, the food: hands down the best steak I’ve ever had. Cooked to absolute perfection, it was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The sides were equally outstanding, especially the creamy mashed potatoes and the perfectly seasoned vegetables. The wine selection was impressive, and the pairing suggestions elevated the meal even further. This is a must-visit for any steak lover. Worth every penny!

Steaks amazing but I didn’t like the brownie as desert

Very good restaurant with an excellent and well priced legacy menu which I thoroughly enjoyed. I recommend the salmon cerviche and the steak. The only issue is that the service was not to standard and the ordering process is cumbersome but all in all it was great.

Expensive raw food won't go again

Excellent shop in a very nice location on the banks of the Thames. Friendly staff, quick service and the food, the best we ate in London. Grilled exactly as we asked for it. Very pleasant experience.

Beau restaurant, avec une belle vue sur la Tamise et un excellent service, mais ça s'arrête là. Je suis toujours surpris de voir les Anglais payer aussi cher pour des plats que nous pouvons trouver à 18 € en France. J'ai testé le Sunday Roast menu pour 27 £ (32 €), et franchement, quelle déception ! Pour ce prix, vous avez deux fines tranches de picanha trop cuites et des légumes rôtis. Et quels légumes ! Des feuilles de chou, des carottes et des pommes de terre... Tout ça pour ce prix-là. Vous payez plus pour le cadre que pour ce qui vous est servi. Cela me conforte dans ma décision d’aller de moins en moins au restaurant, d’acheter de très bons produits et de cuisiner chez moi !

I booked lunch pre rugby test match. The venue was very busy, but in a good way. It was incredible how the staff seamlessly handled a venue full of excited rugby fans. Steak was perfect, sides were tasty and sommelier’s wine recommendation spot on. Service was friendly, efficient and professional. I will certainly be returning.

Went for dinner for two, and from start to finish the service and hospitality was amazing. Valdis, our host, knew their menu and drinks lists well and gave detailed explanations of everything when asked - and made very sensible recommendations too; he introduced himself as a host rather than waiter, which I thought was weird at first - but accurately described how well he looked after us rather than just taking our order. Beef was incredible, side dishes weren't teeny-tiny, and topped off with the service it was a lovely 'nice dinner out'!

Meat was excellent as always, perfectly cooked to request. Service was very attentive from Roxana. Highly recommend

First went to Gauchos in Picadilly in 2007, was once my favourite steak restaurant having visited various branches. No longer the case unfortunately.

I went to this restaurant a week ago. I never experienced such bad service/food, specially not at the price they charge. It was a special occasion and I was left embarrassed for bringing my partner there after hyping it up. Four times the servers came over to our table with the wrong order. We had to constantly flag the staff to place any orders for drinks or food. The steaks were not well-cooked (this is meant to be a steakhouse), little seasoning aside from the side sauces (which were good at least!). It’s a shame, as I used to come to this restaurant some years ago and it was great, but not worth the price at all for what we got in this instance and I will not be coming back.

Lovely staff so friendly and helpful. Had the Sunday roast. I've never had roast beef served that pink before but it was delicious as the meat was such good quality. The seasonal veg was amazing. Food quite salty but I like it like that so no issue. The waiters were very attentive bringing more gravy when we ran out and checking we were ok. 13% gratuity on the bill but this didn't matter as the service was brilliant and we had a voucher to use. Due to the size of the venue and it being busy quite a lot of background noise so hard to have a long conversation. A real treat for us today and it didn't disappoint.

When it comes to settings, this location is an absolute winner. Located close to Richmond Bridge and on the river bank with lots of outdoor space and seating (the inside is large as well), it has a fabulous family friendly feel. The service is prompt and polite, even though the staff were getting the barbecue area ready for an Instagrammer. (They discounted our bill due to a very small amount of disruption.) They will show you the different cuts of beef if you ask. I had the spiral cut ribeye, which I have never had before, and it was delicious! We had a variety of sides to share (I would recommend the Mac and Cheese!). My cheesecake was delicious! It’s a great occasion venue for couples and families.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Food and service were all excellent. Smiling, professional service from entry through to departure, with special mention of Zak who was attentive without being intrusive. Happy to recommend.

I Loved the Spaghetti and the caramel ice cream was surprisingly tasty. The steaks the others ordered were cooked perfectly.

Food was excellent, although of course everything was cooked a little rarer than expected. Wine was exceptionally good.

My fav place in Richmond. But tonight bitten all previous nights. My daughter had a birthday and Aljosh, the manager at Richmond brunch, got her flowers. They treated us to champagne and dessert. It was just amazing, she has left the restaurant feeling super happy. Best night!
