I almost never leave reviews, but after a truly delicious brunch at Antipodea, I felt I simply had to share. The food was genuinely excellent—seriously, hats off to the kitchen. But then the bill arrived, and my jaw nearly hit the table. For context: we had one meal each—essentially avocado on toast, salmon and eggs on toast, and our daughter had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. We added a side of mushrooms and a side of tomatoes (yes, those brunch staples that are usually included but here come at an extra cost). We also had a juice each—no coffee, no tea, nothing fancy. And no alcohol. The total? £84. EIGHTY-FOUR POUNDS. Yes it was the nicest brunch I’ve had in a while (thank god otherwise I’d be seriously miffed), but due to the exorbitant prices this would be a once a year treat for us as opposed to an every other Sunday gig, which is such a shame as I’m local and would love to go more but these insanely high prices and then the additional 15% service charge make that extremely unappealing/impossible.

We liked the food. Kudos to the chefs. The waitresses were very friendly, helpful and made our day brighter. What we didn't like was the manager, who shouted at them near our table. The manager should learn to treat her staff nicer instead of trying to make them cry and feel useless.

We have been going to Antipodea for years now and I really like it. They went through a difficult patch in 2023 when there was seemingly a lot of chef and staff turnover, and as a result the quality / consistency of food and service noticeably suffered. Their Google reviews over the last 12 months or so clearly reflect to As of the summer / autumn 2024 I am so pleased to say that this place is back to its old days (in my opinion) - the new manager seems to be doing a great job, food quality is back to where we remember it being, and service is very friendly. I am ready to give Antipodea a 5 star rating again! Well done for turning the place around To those who have visited in the past and were disappointed I would recommend to give it another go. My order: Smashed Avo on toast (£12.50!!), plus one very small poached egg (+£2.50), plus some chorizo (+£4.00) making at total of = £19 for the meal in the photo attached… that’s outrageous…. The quality is very average (5/10). Partner ordered the sweetcorn fritters (£16.50!!! Mental) with bacon. Bacon came out black so had to send back. Our experience was very mid. Nice looking place and menu sounded good so it was an easy pick from a quick “I wonder if there’s anywhere near here to eat”. But I would pick somewhere else next time. The place itself is cute and the staff were friendly. But the service was largely inaccurate (!), the waiter didn’t know what was happening, and then the service was very slow. The food was then just… fine. It was ok. Nothing to shout about. And wasnt accurate. The waiter said the fried olives wouldn’t be fried is that ok? We said no thanks then. The chicken-salt fries were just paprika fries not as advertised. It was just all not great. The bill came with service auto added. Almost asked for it to be taken off, but they felt petty for £7 when restaurants everywhere are struggling with rising costs.

I’ve been coming here for 5 years but have felt let down by it recently. I tried to give it one last go and was so disappointed. The new evening menu is overpriced and the 3 meals that came were not worth there price, the picture is for Taco’s at £26! They told us 5 things on the menu weren’t available, including the reduced pizza choice because there was no ‘pizza chef’. The service was clumsy and slow, with the final final frustration being the automatic addition of 15% for service on overpriced food. The UK has minimum wage for all industries and I chose not to pay it. We need independent restaurants in the village but they need to provide a good experience.

The food was good - I had an excellent aubergine side, my partner had a GF melt with ham and cheese. But the service - that's another story. On a Saturday lunchtime when they need to be on their game, we were served by a youngish man who seemed genuinely clueless: when we asked about progress with our drinks (after 15 minutes) he said that they were on their way, then we asked a waitress about 10 minutes later, then the first chap came back 5 minutes later and explained that our order hadn't gone through because of "the system". God knows it's not that big a restaurant that we might have slipped under the radar, and several times we saw attempts to deliver food to the wrong tables. I queried the 15% service charge (with a waiter who genuinely seemed to know what he was doing), which was removed.

We all chose dishes from the grill which were good; the main courses seemed to arrive at slightly different times which was odd since they weren't busy, and the side salad was simply a bunch of lettuce only with no dressing until I asked for it and that was £6.50. Great food and great chefs, but terrible service from waitstaff. Food left on counter ready to be served for 10 minutes, 3 waitresses mindlessly gossiping on the other side of the restaurant despite chefs getting annoyed as well at the food left sitting on the counter. Food was borderline warm (not hot at all) upon arrival and also no cutlery was served as the food came, leading to us having to wait 5 more minutes for any cutlery. So total wait for food from the point when it was ready on the counter was 15 mins which is ridiculous. But food was fantastic so great job to chefs. But terrible waitresses need more training and attention to detail rather than talking mindlessly on the other side of the restaurant.

We (two adults and one child) tried the pizza, which was fine, three starters, the Whisky & maple cured pork tomahawk, duck fat chips and one glass of wine and this came to over £90. The pork was around £25 and it was basically a few cuts of meat and two bits of grilled corn. It certainly didn't feel like a £25 entrée. Maybe some of my gripes are circumstantial, but mostly just down to poor attention to the basic details . I visited whilst staying in Kew with my girlfriend on the first Saturday after Valentines Day. Interior design and decor look really appealing and fit in with the overall Kew Garden area vibe. Restaurant not busy at all with a decently diverse selection on the menu which was on the pricey, but on face value appeared to be worth the extra cost. Nothing about the menu was explained to us upon arrival, and only when we had spent time choosing what to order, we were then told certain items were not available. One section not at all available available were their pizzas. Not a major issue but would have been nice to know in the first instance. We asked about how some of the mains were served but the serving staff had to keep referring to the kitchen staff and they just didn't seem at all up to date with the menu details. This made choosing and ordering food harder than it needed to be and was all very frustrating. When the food arrived (chicken tacos, shwarma flat breads, arancini balls) it was below average; flat bread tasted stale, chicken had an odd odour, arancini was bland. To add to our confusion of the experience, a group of very excited 6ish year old girls came in with their minders to celebrate one of their birthdays by having pizza's that the chefs whipped up next to our table. The whole atmosphere inside the restaurant changed with the arrival of the children's party, and though it was heartwarming to see them having so much fun, ther arrival took us completely by surprise and wasn't something we would ever have chosen to sit next to or to expect on a Saturday night dinner date in a restaurant like this, and then to see them all have pizza made up fresh and served in front of us just added to the confusion since we were told it was off the menu that evening. The whole experience was so bizarre that it felt like a scene from a comedy sketch. By this point we were keen to be on our way, asked for the bill and then waited another 15 minutes after receiving it before we ran out of patience to pay and went up to the till. The total which included a standard cocktail and half pint bottle beer was tallied to include a 15% discretionary service charge, approx £68. Based on our poor experience I did ask for the service charge to be removed. When the staff asked why and I explained that the service had been poor for the above stated reasons, we were told the party had booked ahead of time, which again would have been nice to know upon arrival so that we could have been seated at the other end of the mostly empty restaurant perhaps. Having looked at some of the other reviews for this restaurant, it seems like many bad reviews have been given mixed in with the glowing ones. I just wish we'd realised sooner that food and service was so hit or miss and spent our money elsewhere. It's definitely a restaurant to avoid.

We love it here! Food is always great and the staff are lovely. Can't wait for our next visit. We just hope they put some nice warm vegetables on menu as a side rather than just chips or a cold salad.

Stopped by for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place itself is really stylish and has a nice, clam ambience. Staff are also very friendly and attentive. We ordered a few things and there were a couple of vegan bits which was good. Portion sizes were decent, I shared the house salad, fries and vegan Turkish pide which were all very nice (I really enjoyed). But my friends who had the sweetcorn fritters and fishcakes said the food was a good size, presented nicely, but quite basic in flavour with no real taste so maybe avoid. Prices are okay. Think it would be a bit on the expensive side with alcohol. Would recommend but say 15% tip is added on which is more than average in most places. Think it's a little cheeky.

I was in the Kew branch this morning to find just one waitress trying to take orders, clear tables, make coffees & juices & bring out orders. She was still alone 3 hours later. She was doing her best, but it is impossible for one person to manage an entire restaurant. It looked and felt abusive. Some customers were venting their frustration on her. I was a regular customer but I will not return there. Judging by their very high prices they can afford to employ sufficient staff, but choose not to.

Way overpriced with 15% service charge on top...evenings are a no go whilst lunch has better selection and better value. I'm still smarting from the £16.50 not-that-impressive salad.

Loved the cool decor. Nice furnishings and a light airy space. A comfortable casual feel. I visited first for an excellent cappuccino in the morning prior to visiting Kew Gardens (the coffee is much better here). There also were gorgeous cakes including an amazing lemon meringue pie. Pleasant, friendly efficient staff. I returned for lunch. The choice is very varied and their very modern breakfasts are available all day. I opted for folded eggs (a large portion of sort of folded very thin omlette), with roasted tomatoes and feta and smoked salmon sides. All were very generous portions. Their house rose was very good and well priced. I would definitely return.

Our meal here was unfortunately really not good. I had the Eggs Florentine with gluten free bread, it was all cold, toast very dry, zero seasoning. My husband had the chicken pie which is actually a little casserole dish with pasty on top. Also not great. Service was fine and sitting outside was nice but would not recommend this spot for the food.

Awful!!! Avoid! We went for brunch with my mum, brother and 4 children aged between 3-11 years. The service was awful. The 3 year old cannot eat diary. The waitress said there was nothing on the menu she could offer which was non-diary, so we ordered her toast and jam. We mentioned that the toast would have to be without butter and could we possibly have margarine instead. She insisted they didnt have margarine because the owner wouldn’t allow them to buy it. She told us the owner didn’t care about what they said and didn’t listen to them. She said they only had one portion of pancakes which the children all shared. They said it wasn’t possible to make more pancake mixture. The pancakes were rubbery and the kids didn’t even eat the small portion they shared. My brother and I had egg Benedict’s and both of our eggs were hard boiled rather than runny. They took a small amount off the bill for the hard eggs but the bill still came to over £100! There are lots of lovely cafe/eating options in Kew…I would certainly avoid this place. Horrible service, food and expensive! I am a local and I will certainly never return.

2 of us chose the hake and crab cakes which were good. 2 of us chose the Lemak Laksa which were poor. I strongly advise the manager to remove this from the menu because the soup base was thin/watery, and needed more stock and coconut milk. It was missing tofu as described on the menu, which arrived when asked for, but was sour to taste! (Off!) It was an expensive laksa and was a huge disappointment.

Average food. We were told no pizzas and no vodka available as we sat down. The staff were friendly but so very slow with service, one drink came after the food. Despite previous reviews (which I wish I had read before booking) the side salad is still a small bowl of leaves only. The setting and decor is nice and menu looks tasty but the restaurant is quiet for such a prime and lovely setting in the middle of Richmond and food very bland and beige- fine for a quick bite but the price should be lower.

The service was ever so slow, the staff, apart from lady who was the manager, were so disinterested. She at least smiled and was friendly. The waitress who served us was surly as was the older man. Felt like you were bothering them. The food was ok but it’s expensive for what it is. Won’t be back.

Been there twice, ordered same food, consistently good. I give 4 instead of 5 stars for the following: Service is good but not memorable. Coffee on the bitter side Their steak frites is amazing and great ratio quality/ size/ price. However I wish theyd charge 3-4-5£ more but give a bigger steak. I would happily pay more because it’s delicious

We had such a lovely meal in Antipodea. The place is stunning and all the staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was superb, special mention to the pepperoni pizza and the cakes. The service was very quick and they even gave us a little candle when we told them that we were having a birthday meal. Will be coming back on our next visit to Kew Gardens and will recommend it to everyone!!!

Met up with some friends for early dinner, we ended up here as they advertised a "Laksa Lemak" on their billboard. My friends and I ordered it, but sadly the food was nowhere near recognizable as a laksa curry, which was a huge disappointment - more tangy than and not enough coconut milk in the gravy, they didn't even use laksa leaf. The prawn/seafood version was an eye-stinging £19 per bowl, and the basic vegetarian/tofu version only a couple of quid less. My husband ordered the Margherita pizza, which he also thought was lackluster. Staff were efficient but I did feel like they tried to hurry us along, even though there was hardly anyone there when we came in at 4pm. Thankfully their desserts were good; I had the lemon meringue pie while my friends ordered the red velvet cake and carrot cakes. Main courses: 1/5. Dessert: 4/5.

Eggs Benedict cold. Everything was prepared, so no excuse. Croissant similar to the type supermarkets sell frozen. As others have said, poor food and overpriced. Please closedown and hopefully a decent eatery can take over this prime location.

I recently completed a two-month stint at this restaurant. Unfortunately, during my time there, I encountered issues with late payment, with delays extending over a week in the first month and two weeks into the second. My attempts to contact them have been met with silence. However, I must commend the dedicated staff who consistently delivered excellent food despite limited resources. While the restaurant upholds public health and quality products as core values, my experience behind the scenes revealed inconsistencies in meeting these standards.

We went for the first time on a Saturday at 4pm. They only served drinks and cake at the time which is what we wanted. The menu was varied and lots to choose from. I had the Sky at night cocktail and lemon polenta cake. My daughter had the matcha latte and loved it. We didn't need to wait long and the music they played had created a good vibe. I would recommend.
