Called in lunchtime for light refreshment, wife had cake and coffee I had coffee and ham & cheese toastie which was best ever, I usually have panini but this was better, decent ham and flavourful cheese. Service and welcome was very good and they are dog friendly and ensured we got water fo dog. We will surely return at earliest opportunity.

We visited yesterday (23/8/2019) arriving at 3:15pm. The place was empty with the exception of 2-3 ladies in the very small and overgrown garden at the back (not open and spacious like the pictures above). There were 6 of us and 3 children (9 in total). I asked what cakes there were and was told 'I can't remember' - what a really poor response. Had I not been with my family I would have walked out. I didn't bother to have a cake as they clearly couldn't be bothered to sell us them but the kids had a chocolate brownie which tasted of coconut (assume this was coconut flour) and said they were dry. My coffee had the tide out, I assume this was because I had it black and it was all the machine would provide, considering I asked for it black it would have been nice to add a little bit more water but hey like I said service isn't this places forte. And then to top it off at 3:55pm someone shouted to clear the tables as they were closing and then two young girls appeared and cleared our table. You would think they'd be run ragged all day as they had no energy about them, probably why they were shouted at or was that for our benefit as a large hint to get out, I can't be sure. Won't be going back.

In common with many other Arundel retailers come festival time Gaskyns doubles up as an art gallery. Fruits and white bowls are currently not only available for those who want to eat but are also photographed in a magnified form and thereby converted into an art work on the wall. Some delightful if undemanding landscapes on other walls. Two black sculptures lurking on a window ledge. A view of a naturally verdant landscape for those wanting to take their tea or Mowenpick ice cream in the garden.

Whenever we are near Gaskyns we make a point of going in. It’s on the “wrong” side of the river so most people dont know it’s there, but it’s well worth the extra couple of yards to get there! The Spanish breakfast on wholemeal is absolutely gorgeous!

This is a really nice space to eat in - art on the walls, and a good cafe menu with local food choices. The staff were really lovely and helpful, and my elderly mother felt very pampered. It's lovely that dogs are allowed - and I think every customer came and said hello to ours, which was lovely! The whole atmosphere was very friendly and inclusive and we will definitely be back! It was noticeable how many of the customers were locals and seemed to be regular customers.

Just over the bridge, and therefore away from the main tourist beat, this place has to be just that bit better, and it is. Spotlessly clean with chirpy staff, picture gallery and small terrace, it ensured that we will revisit next time that we are in Arundel. There is one outside table on the pavement at the front, and it was this that attracted us initially to the place..

We visited as a family of 5 whilst on the way to the Arundel festival and arrived late morning. The breakfast/lunch menu looked ok and the staff were nice but the food was poor. The mushrooms with the breakfast were dried instead of fried and the offered poached eggs were not available and the fried alternative not cooked properly. I wasn’t convinced that the bacon was cooked properly either. If this is just been one plate it might have been a mistake but all our meals were poor. Disappointing.

This is a happy, friendly cafe offering tasty food. The staff are lovely, always welcoming us with a smile. The Welsh rarebit is one of our favourites, as is the yummy Croque Monsieur. Homemade soup with fresh (homemade granary) bread always delicious too. Just down the road from all the shops and the castle - we love to sit in the tiny patio garden on a sunny day.

We were staying at The Norfolk Arms for a couple of nights, in a dog-friendly room, and had decided to have brunch in town, as the hotel stops serving breakfast at 9.30 a.m., which was too early for us. The hotel provided a basic visitor map for the town and Gaskyns advertised as being friendly “for well behaved dogs and children”. The café is in a nice historic building, of which there are many in Arundel, just a short walk from The Norfolk Arms, over the bridge. It is linked to the store next door, possibly with the same owners. There are a wide range of options in the all day breakfast menu. I opted for the Spanish breakfast - chorizo and fried eggs, cooked in the same pan, with cherry tomatoes, on toast. Jacci had beans on toast, a healthier option. The service was prompt and friendly. We enjoyed it so much, that we went back the next day! We would definitely eat here again, though we heard through the grapevine that the building may revert to residential use at some point.

Wot no chicken!Opted for their all-day breakfast that @ £8.95 was, I thought, a tad too expensive but possibly reflects the catchment area and the tourist hotspot though on the day of my visit not exactly mobbed. Now the breakfast, for me, was a bit odd, or at least part of it was.Having had an Irish Mother I was brought up on black and white pudding that each have distinct flavours and textures. The one solitary sample I was given tasted strangely synthetic.Might, I wondered have the soldiers at nearby Arundel Castle always marched in single file as there was a single rasher of bacon and a single sausage each with its own locally-sourced taste. For the price, I think they could have been two abreast or is that just me missing the chicken?Charming young woman serving..

Usual trouble finding somewhere to park on a busy day and found a space outside Gaskyns, what a stroke of luck! We make a beeline for it when we visit Arundel now, they do some very unusual and really tasty things on their menu. First time we both had the Brie & pear, it was really hot and runny, gorgeous , tried to do it at home, didn't match theirs!Today it's pea & mint soup and Spanish breakfast, chorizo fried with cherry tomatoes in olive oil 2 organic eggs on 2 slices of toast, delicious. A bit out of the town centre but well worth the walk if I'm in the parking space outside. The shop has unusual things in as well, give it a look!

Went along to Gaskyn's having read that it's child-friendly and was thinking about a trip to Arundel with grandson + familyHad a very delicious hot chocolate indeed: just the right balance between bitter and sweet that makes a cup very welcoming on a freezing cold afternoon. The menu looked pretty good but we didn't indulge on this occasion. There were a few families with small children / toddlers who seemed to having a great time and didn't disturb us in the slightest. Visited on what would be our last day in the beautiful Arundel. We went specifically to Gaskyns because I have coeliac disease and friends had said how good they are for catering for specific dietery requirements. First impressions were good, very laid back and had some lovely art works on display. Asked the waitress with blue hair what was gluten free. She responded, "we can make anything on the menu gluten free for you". Fantastic! I thought. We sat down and I had a look through their extensive menu. I really fancied a sausage sandwich. Unfortunately, despite being told anything could be made gluten free, this could not. When I looked a bit surprised she said "are you allergic or are you just...you know.." and did a kind of squinty thing with her eye to suggest I might be one of those fad dieters. I informed her I had coeliac disease and she nodded and then explained their usual order of GF sausages hadn't arrived from the butchers that day. That's fine, but maybe don't tell me I can have anything I want (if you are a fellow coeliac you will understand) and then look at me like I'm just trying to make your life difficult. After my sarnie arrived (i opted for bacon) it was very well presented, and had crisps and salad on the side. We had noticed a cornered off section of the cafe as we entered. We soon found out it was being used for a toddler group. We had our infant daughter with us so we were not in any way annoyed or bothered by this, but they were very loud. So if you want peace and quiet, you should sit outside. A plus note, I should add, was there willingness to refill our daughters milk bottle. No questions asked. The staff were polite, it was reasonably priced but if you have special dietary requirements triple check what is available before ordering.

We stopped here for a light lunch prior to tackling the art trail as part of the Festival. Service was friendly and prompt, and portion sizes and the extras served with the sandwiches were generous. My wife had pear with melted brie which she pronounced excellent, and the other three of us had various sandwiches which were all considered very good. All in all, a very pleasant place. Just one small gripe - we had tea for two and the teapot was way too small for two people. Extra hot water was provided immediately on request, but a larger teapot to begin with would have resulted in a better cuppa!

We were looking for a cafe that would take two thirsty travellers and their rather large dogs. We had read about Gaskyn's on this site and thought we would give it a try. The greeting was a genuinely happy one. The two female members of staff could not have made us feel more welcome and took an interest in our two canine companions making it clear we could sit inside or in the walled garden/yard at the back, wherever we liked. The latter proved perfect for us so that the dogs could be free and we could relax. The owner came to chat too. We had cake, a toasted sandwich, and teas and hot chocolate and it was simple and perfect. So good we took some cakes away for dessert later that evening.

Visited during the Christmas by Candlelight event with the family. Went in at about 2pm to find the cafe empty except for 1 lady sitting on her own. We sat down at the sofas by the window with the kids and waited to be served. There was one young girl on who wandered past us numerous times and did't come near us once to ask if we were OK. In fact she spent time cleaning a floor area for a bit, then the coffee making machine, took a delivery, chatted to another member of staff from elsewhere who appeared for the delivery and after 20 mins we decided enough was enough. This place feels as though it is run by kids. Terrible customer service. There was no excuse - the place was empty and the girl just wandered around. I even held the menu in front of me and smiled at her one time to get some sort of response and she blanked me and walked past. It was as if she didn't want to serve us.This happened one time before we were there but we stayed 25 mins and eventually got served. So perhaps we weren't patient enough this time.Either way, this is not the right way to treat customers. But thanks for the use of your sofas and getting out of the cold for 20 mins. Appreciated.

Sensible drinks at a sensible price with no bags of sweats or other "extras" that the kids eat and then never want the meal! My Spanish breakfast was excellent, the eggs were so tasty( just like the ones from our hens at home) and the whole meal was tasty, enjoyable and well presented. The staff were working hard and really attentive and friendly and even didn't mind this Dad spilling a whole kids drink, helpfully cleared it up and brought me another! From the oozingly delicious grilled goats cheese on ciabatta with salad to the exceedingly generous sized smoked mackerel, which was a joy to eat as it was beautifully fresh, moist and so tasty. If you want 'Home' cooked food that's fresh, locally sourced and 'good wholesome grub', you must try it! I had asked twice when the food was coming and was reassured on both occasions that it was just coming. After an hour we were just getting up to leave and the waitress brought the food. With hindsight I wish that I had left before the food arrived as it was dreadful. A thick gloomy mess is all I can describe it as! To make matters worse there weren't many customers in he establishment so I can understand why it could have taken that long and in the end it was the worst Rarebit Ive ever eaten.

Hmmm...let's see, is it the comfy chairs, the spacious room filled with natural light or the combination of artsy and crafty that I like best? It manages to be both down-to-earth and stylish...I like that a lot. I discovered Gaskyns when I needed a place in Arundel to meet a prospective client where we could have a really nice coffee and get reliable WIFI. The place is really charming, and the family who own and run it are keen to accommodate their very diverse client base. They even host children's playgroups (not always conducive to a business meeting!), and have a great range of toys. My grandchildren become happily absorbed there within minutes or arriving, leaving the adults in the party a little freer to enjoy a great cappuccino or hot chocolate and a very nice breakfast. There's a little shop, too, where you can get lovely, whole-foody things like quinoa, lentils and oatcakes. Whenever I'm passing Arundel, I try to include a visit to Gaskyns!

we went for breakfast the staff were pleasant enough, but the service was slow and when we did receive our breakfast, mine was very small £5.95 I think it was, and my daughters was burnt and £6.95, when asked how our food was we did say that we were not happy, however they did offer to re-do it and we refused due to a time factor. The coffee was lovely.

Lovely, bright and airy, great pics on the wall. Varied menu for all tastes. Hubby and I popped in for snack. We were one of three tables of customers at the time, so a bit surprised that our order of chorizo, olives and baguettes and a round of sandwiches hadn't arrived after a 20 minute wait (by which time we had finished our pots of tea).Disappointed to be told my choice of egg mayonnaise was unavailable, it took 20 mins to be made aware of that? However, the food that we did have (chose salmon as alternative) was excellent.I love to have a lazy lunch, but find 30 minute wait for sandwiches uacceptable.

Having had a long journey to get to Arundel for a day's walk, my friends and I were desperate for a drink and a little morsel of something as it had been a long time since breakfast. We chose to sit in very comfortable easy chairs and look out of the window. We all had some really delicious cake and a drink. The ladies who served us were very pleasant. The place is well set up for children - there were a few toys and the changing facilities in the ladies were excellent, complete with a step stool for young children to reach the washbasin. The decor of the cafe was very relaxing. I will certainly return there on another visit as the coffee and cake were so good.

Arriving hungry in the lower car park, Gaskyns was the first opportunity to escape the incessant rain. Nice spot, friendly staff in a pleasant contemporary environment. Decent value, nice food & good choice, with children well catered for. I was slightly disappointed with the size of my welsh rarebit - but overall we were impressed and would visit again.

This cafe is slightly out of the town centre and could be missed if you don't know about it. It is in an interesting old building and has a calm, relaxing atmosphere. There is some sort of young childrens' club early on weekday mornings so this is the only time it's best not to go. The staff are polite and helpful. There is a pleasant sunny garden at the back. Some of the meals are not very filling but are prepared to a high standard. A good place to go at weekends or when the rest of the town is busy.

Situated over the old bridge in Arundel, and a couple of hundred metres from the main centre of this small town, Gaskyns is an increasingly popular coffee shop and place for a light meal.Delicious hand roasted coffee from Coffee Union, the small batch experts, and friendly staff. And they welcome mums with their young children who are encouraged to run about and make lots of noise!

Stopped in at this cafe for ice cream which I hadn't seen before called Movenpick. Best ice cream I think i've ever had and the kids loved it too. The cafe was great for them with baby changing facilities and lots of toys for them too play with. Although we only had ice cream the menu looked good and I was told everything was homemade including the cakes on the counter so we will be coming back to try some of their other things on offer. There was also a really nice little garden but the weather wasn't too nice so didn't sit out there and they also have a shop with a full range of Ellas kitchen so we stocked up!Will definitely be coming here next time I come to Arundel.

A large and airy cafe, Restuarant and take away, plus whole food and interesting item shop. The morning pre 11.00 seems to be a mums a baby's club with lots of singing, drawing, and playing of instruments which if you like that sort of thing is rather charming. We had the small breakfast, and they allowed our well behaved dogs to sit with us. He food was very nice especially the sausage and bacon. Will certainly go back

Picture the scene, a quiet New Year's Eve lunch time around 1.30pm, a middle-aged couple enter the cafe and take a seat at one of the empty tables. Two other tables are occupied with customers in the process of being served. Two members of staff walk past several times with orders for the others and return with used crockery, totally ignoring the couple. The female member of staff wanders around tearing bits off her order pad, tidying magazines and pretending to look busy, but never once acknowledges the couple who have not been served, even though they are looking in her direction, trying to catch her eye. The male member of staff is just as bad; he has passed the couple several times with drinks in his hands but wanders off to the other end of the cafe to socialise with a group of people in the informal seating area. After about 15 mins of being ignored, the "invisible" couple get up and leave. There is still no acknowledgement or apology from the staff. So sadly, the middle-aged couple, who were in fact long-standing local patrons, never did savour the delights of what appeared to be a very vegetarian-friendly menu. In addition, they will not bother again and the establishment has gained their 2011 worst customer service award.

We popped in for lunch and ended up spending a couple of hours relaxing and chatting on the sofa whilst the children coloured in, in the colouring books kindly provided by the very friendly and chatty staff. The food was lovely and excellent value for money, and when asked if we could have smaller portions for the children this wasn't a problem. We have since been back for breakfasts at the weekends and this is now my meeting place when getting together with friends. we are looking forward to trying the Friday night evening menu for my mothers birthday.

Possibly a slightly slower pace of life than I am used to but we went to Gaskyns for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The cafe is pleasantly furnished, the ambience is good but the service was quite slow. That said...when the food and drink arrived it was very good. Just a little more attention to customer needs would have improved the review considerably.

Myself and my wife had lunch here with the kids. The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. The staff were helpful and they made effort to cater for the kids. Just the kind of place to go with the family. Easy access for the pushchair and they even had kids toilet seats! Will definitely go again!

Went today for a couple of coffees, after waiting 5 minutes some young guy who had been folding napkins eventually wandered over looking most disinterested. I asked for 2 coffees and he said ' can't do hot drinks '. No apology or reason why. Needless to say with 2 other places nearby, West Park and The Waverley, where you feel welcome will not be coming back here.

Not eaten here yet, but looking at the menu there is only one vegan choice.....
