Us locals were lucky as the Hotel offered out of season discounts. The dining room is set in a modern barn like building with glass walls on two sides overlooking fantastic gardens and river.

This was a family occasion - an informal dinner, for which the Garden Room was admirably suited. Arriving while it was still light the outside gardens down to the river made a pleasant environment. This is not the main restaurant, which was fully booked. It was above all, comfortable - not stuffy or formal, it was relaxed, yet highly professional. The excellent wide ranging menu provided for everyone and the service was perfectly judged to be attentive and friendly without being intrusive or ostentatious. There were also a number of 'extras' to the meal which we enjoyed. Good wine list too.

The most reasonably priced afternoon tea in the village. great scones with cream and jam. Not enough seating on a busy day though.

At a time when Dorset is meant to be pulling out all the stops after the floods to encourage business, it was deeply depressing to visit The Priory Hotel. We were not asking the earth, just a pot of tea. The receptionist and duty manager are both graduates of the Basil Fawlty School of Hotel Management , with an unpleasant attitude added in. We have been to the hotel over a dozen times as resident and non residents. To be told in a really unpleasant manner by both that a pot of tea was not possible will mean that neither of us will ever visit this establishment again. It does such dis-service to Dorset and the industry generally. The Two Gardeners

First of all I would like to say what a splendid hotel this is which is why we keep going back albeit only for morning coffee and afternoon tea. Every time we arrive we go to the reception and ask for service and every time we are met by the same weary response "we are attending to others and whilst we will serve you we will not be able to take your order for about 15 minutes". So we go into the drawing room and wait and when we are served it is all very nice. We just wish that they didn't always seem so careworn and seeming to wish us further.

Been going here for 20 years until today. Went in for afternoon tea. Milk arrived in a chipped jug, tray plonked down in front of us and no apology when a fresh jug arrived after I commented. They couldn't make me a sandwich at 3pm in the afternoon in July. How many stars does this hotel claim to have??? THEN IT GETS WORSE... They threw (yes threw) my card back at me when I went to pay because the bill was under £10. The female staff then both burst into tears and said I was rude because I dared to offer them my opinion on their service. They then called the Manager and said I had told them to p*** off...which I had not. The Manager also pulled out a roll of tenners then to pay me off!!!!! YOU COULDN'T MAKE THIS UP. I'm 61 years old and NOT a hooligan.

Brilliant authentic fish and chips, lovely food to top off a wonderful day trip to Swanage. Highly recommend, and the staff were super friendly. Biggest bit of fish I’ve had!
