While I was ordering at the till early I watched a lady go into the cafe area with a filthy cloth and no spray to wipe the tables all done with one cloth and wiped over the window sills same cloth then went outside to do the same. We were the first customers this morning. The floor in the cafe had litter under the tables and floor dirty didn’t appear to have been mopped. We won’t be returning.

Food was okay, but took a long time to come, and for what you pay you dont get very much at all! Was quite disappointed in all honesty. First time we have tried this cafe, but in future if visiting the garden centre we will dine at the Highfield across the road. Very similar prices but twice at least the amount on the plate than you get at Gardeners Retreat!!

We were the first customers to order lunch at 11-25, 25 minutes later we were informed that my choice of jacket potato filling was not available, neither was my second choice. After a further 10 minutes we were advised that my first choice had been “found”. 40 minutes after placing our order our food was delivered. The breaded plaice was very thin, mostly crumbs and definitely overcooked. My jacket potato ( not the filling) had a most peculiar taste which I couldn’t identify. No satisfaction check was made. The staff looked miserable, no smile or pleasant comment. Not a good experience and could not recommend this venue.

We have visited this cafe at least twice a week for a long time. My first review many months ago was glowing with praise but now the cafe is quickly going down hill. Today Sunday my wife asked for a latte and a tea for one . The server never acknowledged her no thank you just a long face. When she got back to our table the latte hadn't even been heated stone cold. How do you forget to heat the coffee ??? The window ledge was full of dead wasps and flies. This was our last visit to the cafe we liked to frequent.

Decided to have breakfast here this morning as they offer gluten free breakfast. I really wish I hadn't. It was quiet with only a few tables but for some reason we had to wait 50 minutes for 2 breakfasts. Other tables had finished their fried breakfast before their toast arrived. The coffee was disgusting, weak and undrinkable, sausages were cremated and tasteless. The egg looked like it had been deep fried. Bacon is american style and just awful. I can see why they make you pay when you order because otherwise nobody would ever pay for the food there. Never again. The garden centre itself is very nice, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Ordered 2 large breakfasts. Asked if I could swap mushrooms (due to allergy) for a tomato only to be told no! If I choose to do this I will need to pay £1 extra. Also... we were first customers in at 10am... went to use ladies toilets only to find floor littered with loo roll and unflushed toilets from day before. Rubbish start to our day!

Visited for breakfast. Nice atmosphere . Never been somewhere that doesn’t let you swap an item . One member of party was allergic to mushrooms and wanted a pound to swap for a tomato. Toilets absolutely filthy with toilet roll all over the floor and we were first customers in at 10am. Table dirty also. Breakfast nice when it came though .

We were travelling in the area when we passed the Leyland Garden Centre, we needed a coffee break so called in. There is a spacious and pleasant café with a good outdoor area for the better weather. The lady who served us was very helpful and we enjoyed two good quality flat whites.

I have been to better restaurants in garden centres but this one is still very nice. Very large selection of cakes at reasonable prices. I had a chicken and chorizo sandwich with chips and coleslaw. It was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. I sat outside on the terrace with a great view of the plants

Nice burger but missing the lettuce, very few chips and truly awful coleslaw which was obviously just cabbage and Mayo. No onion, carrot etc. My wife’s garden platter (ploughman’s) was cheap mild pre sliced supermarket cheddar, completely tasteless. Not the mature cheddar as stated. The salad had no tomato or cucumber, and the bread was pretty standard pre sliced stuff not the chunky bloomer. Would be fairly pricey even if everything came as stated, but there had clearly been supply issues as I heard a member of staff talking about it, and yet still charging full price for obviously inferior food. Nice place but unfortunately will not be going again.

This was our fourth visit in as many months. After being shown to a table each time, we were then left for at least half an hour without even a glance in our direction. We did inform the very slow waitress that we only required 2 drinks, but she still remained staring into space . Today we gave it one last shot.. a different waiter this time, Still the same enthusiasm, or lack of, needless to say we up and left.I would only go if you have at least a full morning/ afternoon to spare ... even if you say excuse me they have select hearing , or lack of any hearing .

Wholly unimpressed. Arrived just before 11, but, by the time we had looked at the menu and queued to the till the clock had ticked past. We asked for cooked breakfasts to be told they’d finished at 11. Why? Why do cafes stop cooking breakfast, especially on weekends. We were offered toasted tea cakes. The assistant, whilst not rude, was blunt and to the point. So, we spent £8 instead of £20. We won’t return after being patrons for over 20 years. The next three customers after us were in the same boat. To top it all whilst we waited for our tea cakes the table next to us received their full English breakfasts!!! The cafe lost a lot of takings. It lost a lot of goodwill. All for a couple of minutes on the clock. I spend c£500 a year in the garden centre. Not this year. I will be going elsewhere.

Leyland Garden CentreHere we are again, midwinter visit to a Garden Centre when the rain is bouncing off the pavement, outdoor plants are ignored and traffic heavy whichever way you travel. It was just before the general election so folks were out trying to get away from the non-stop media. It was the restaurant that drew us in, always a good meal served by cheerful staff, but this time the Christmas stock was on show in the shop, a must for my wife as the great day approaches. The food again was great, three of us for hot meals, Fish n chips, Chicken n mushroom pie n chips and a veggie style baked potato with beans n cheese. All food quickly prepared and delivered to our table in the conservatory where we could see outside the lonely plants being watered naturally. I was the pie-man and must say it was one of the best I have ever had, thin crust with lots of chunky chicken and sauce. The chips chunky and hot, on warmed plates. I always watch out for warmed plates as a cold one spoils a meal. I did send a thank you to the chef and the staff who served us.So even on a wet, windy and cold day mid December, our visit to Leyland Garden Centre lifted our spirits. Too bad the gold courses in the area are all closed due to flooding, that would have lifted my spirit even higher. Can’t have it all.

I’ve just had the worst roast I think I have ever tasted here. It was how I imagine prison food would taste. The gravy was stomach churning, beef as tough as old boots, turkey tasted like it was out of a packet - really, come on. You will not survive as a business if you continue to serve rubbish like this! Also, just to top off the experience, there was no heating on in the cafe in December. However, to give it it’s due, the staff are friendly but it will take more than that to save this place.

Leyland Garden Centre and café.I’m told it’s a ‘male’ thing to try and get out of a trip to another garden centre, especially when retired and the garden at home is immaculate, not needing extra foliage nor concrete figurines. Not an apology I may say, more of a seventy-year old physically fit bloke who has lots of activities to take up his long week of retirement to the extent that I don’t know how I had the time to go work for all those fifty odd years. So why am I reporting back about a Garden Centre and its café?Well the café got me interested, then the garden centre took my imagination during a short walk round after a great meal. Now I will divide my view into both.1. The café. This is a large dining area divided into two, one inside the building fully and also one inside a beautiful glass conservatory. The menu is breakfast, lunch and children’s menu. There are lots of choices and having been there twice recently, the food is great. Remember, I did say the meal drew me there. The service by a smiling cheerful lady, was quick and helpful, the food prepared well with lots of homemade items. My meal this time was a sandwich of Wensleydale Creamy/Crumbly, from the Yorkshire factory in Hawes. I never knew you could have a crumbly cheese that actually melts in your mouth. The bread was thick and soft and the meal could’ve had a salad or chips making the sandwich plenty for a lunch.2. The garden centre. This is well stocked and varied, it also has conservatories, fencing, outdoor seating and aquarium fish with equipment to keep them at home. So there’s lots to see. The display of garden water features caught my wife’s eye for a possible birthday present in three weeks. Wonderful, having racked my brain for the best present to buy her, discounting perfumery, jewellery which have always been my ‘backstop’ products. Can I use the word ‘backstop’ in this year of Brexit non-negotiations?I now need to sneak back alone, unknown to my wife, buy a waterfall, hide it, fit it for a surprise. Problem sorted, or is it extra activities added to my portfolio? This Garden Centre has been there for decades, under differing names, but now entitled ‘Leyland Garden Centre’ near Croston in Lancashire. It is well stocked and imaginative in its displays. A good afternoon out with the lunch included. Well worth a visit.

Not been here in a long time and as we were looking in the garden centre, thought we would stop for some lunch. Bright and airy space with friendly staff. An indoor play area for small children. Got the feeling it might have changed hands. Lots of lovely cakes on display and the menu was very good aswell, from Snacks to meals. The prices seemed lower than when I last came and more Cake choice. The meals we could see coming out looked fresh and plentiful. I just ordered a Cream Tea, that came with a large Scone, pot of any flavour jam and a lovely large pot of whipped Cream. Of course a teapot of tea. Couldn't fault it, very enjoyable. My sister had Prawn in Sauce Sandwhiches on White Bread. It came with a rather large sidesalad and Coleslaw, plus a bowl of chips. All very plentyful and enjoyable she told me. We enjoyed our food in nice bright and clean surroundings. Toilets with a seperate spacious Disabled Toilet. Enough room in the cafe for Wheelchairs and Disabled parking next to the front doors. We will definately come back to this garden centre ,if only for the food, although a good selection of well looked after plants etc. Forgot to mention, there are tables reserved as you enter the Cafe on the left, for Dogs and their owners. Thought that was a lovely area. Read some of the other reviews on here and think the old ones should be removed as definately better than the last time I went and think new people in the Cafe. WE WILL BE BACK.

On arrival ordered our lunch from very limited menu. Ordering was unproblematic but things then went downhill. Our food eventually arrived almost 25 mins after we had ordered by which time we had finished our coffee. Presentation was really poor with the food looking like it had just been slopped on the plate. Coleslaw was a bit of white cabbage and red onion smothered in mayonnaise. I had ordered a panini, which by the way was certainly not panini bread. It didn't look particularly appetising. I then queried with the waitress as to where the cranberry sauce was. She seemed very surprised and asked if I would like some. I reminded her that the menu said Brie, bacon and cranberry!!! Some was eventually brought. Very unsatisfactory- far better places to eat.

Menus on clip boards kept in a box away from counter and tables. Trays no where near counter. Food overpriced and poor. Average wait is half hour and then they bring wrong order, leaving you watching your family eating their food and waitinganother half for them to bring rest of order. Asked for refund and it took 20 mins to get that. If you've that much time to waste I would rather watch paint dry and go hungry.

We ate here today (and on many other occasions).Every time we visit we always say we won’t waste our Money here again. We had vouchers to spend in the garden centre so decided to have dinner here at the same time. It’s been quite a while since we’ve eaten here and mistakenly thought it might have improved.Unfortunately for us it hadn’t.They are seem to be under staffed. The place was all but empty but still the service was slug slow. All we ordered were 3 jacket potatoes,a panini and some chips but we waited well over half an hour. The food really isn’t that great so not worth the wait. This cafe used to be lovely . You had to queue for a table a few years ago.Today there was probably a maximum of 5 tables taken so obviously the word has spread around that it’s not that great anymore.Such a shame as I used to love this place.A good cafeteria can really make a garden centre .The garden centre has really good quality plants but unfortunately I won’t be stopping for food or drinks next time I visit

My family and I have been to the garden centre twice recently and on both occasions my son has had a great time playing in the soft play centre while we've had half an hour to have a drink of coffee and a piece of cake. The coffee and cakes are really nice in the cafe but be careful of the wait times. It's fairly quiet when we go but it still takes 10 minutes to get served, I dread to think what it would be like when it's peak times. The soft play centre is small but adequate and the garden centre itself seems pretty good too but we haven't bought anything yet due to the time of year.

Took ten minutes to get a cup of coffee with only one person in the queue in front of me. Staff kept disappearing into the kitchen for no apparent reason. Poor quality selection of cakes and over priced. Very poor selection of anything. Appeared all they wanted to do was their version of a festive lunch. The real problem appears to be a lack of efficient management. I have not been able to work out whether Wyvale cafes are inhouse or franchised but whichever this outlet is way below the standard achieved at Wyvale Shelley so send someone there to learn how to operate a cafe.

Visited with my three children and mother to have a little shop and let's the kids play in the soft play. The children enjoyed it, great for under 7's but they seem to be short staffed and the customer service in general is poor. It took a very long time to get served despite only one customer ordering just one thing before me. The tables needed wiping and the toilets were disgusting, one blocked completely and the other two with no toilet roll and the I didn't want to touch the doors that were covered in suspicious marks. This has completely put me off coming here again, it's such a shame as my local Wyevale (Telford)is fantastic in comparison.

Just came back from taking my family lunch here. A really lovely park caff near in the Yarrow Bridge Park near Chorley. Excellent value c.£40 for 3 adults and a kid to eat and drink and lots of ice cream flavours including S’mores! As I am the world’s most awkward customer diet wise the kitchen was super keen to make me something off the menu in the absence of any GF options. The food was at the table within a couple of minutes of our derrières hitting the cherrieres!

The meal was as good as I could have expected (fish, chips & peas+millionaires cheesecake for pud)for the price of a great deal with two meals for cheap as chips cost.
