The Best Indian restaurant we have ever dined at. Fresh food, delicious, hot / lovely wine and very friendly staff in a lovely cosy restaurant

Exceptionally friendly staff and lovely Indian food in the British Indian style. We had the beef cheeks and the prawn madras, very friendly service I’m very happy to accommodate anyway. A very family Phil, if you have young children as well.

My curry was tastless , Toilet downstairs disgusting needs a good scrub ,ceiling falling down , Carpet in restaurants needs replacing. Service good shame won't be coming back .

It says on trip advisor that this restaurant closes at 2330. I arrived just before 2200 to be told the kitchen was closed. I asked if they could do something quick, the manager then said he could offer me a take away. When I queried this since he said the kitchen was closed he immediately withdrew the offer saying he had been doing me a favour. Sadly I don't do supletly and failed to spot his hidden offer. This restaurant looked very tidy and I am sure the food would be very nice. I was just unlucky that the team wanted an early night when I went there.

The first time we have ordered from here, well what can I say wasn't disappointed really lovely food. Would highly recommend the Chicken Rogon sooo tasty. We had take out but might sit in next time.

A nice selection of dishes on the menu and everything we ordered was very good. The staff were very friendly and we had a lovely evening.

My family and I have been going to Gandhis for 20 years and it is incredibly consistent. We travel 25 minutes to get our takeaways from here every week. Never a bad meal or experience and even if the odd hiccup staff are lovely and more than happy to resolve anything. Cannot recommend enough

We recently dined at this curry restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The menu offered a vast array of flavors, and the service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant itself was warm and inviting, enhancing the overall dining experience. Food was very tasty . While it was a fantastic meal, I reserve 5 stars for absolute perfection. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this restaurant for a delightful curry experience.

The worst food, we ever tried. Totally worst. We order a platter we totally unsatisfied. We are Indians and we expected alot but honestly we are unsatisfied. The person who liked those food must try from some other restaurant in London.

We had a brilliant meal at Gandhi! There were 18 of us and we booked and sent pre-orders online. The staff were incredibly welcoming and organised, and brought everything just as we’d ordered. They were so friendly and checked often that we had what we needed. We were pleased to be in a private room upstairs. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone was pleased. Thank you so much for accommodating us and we had a wonderful group meal! Would definitely recommend for a delicious meal and lovely, relaxed experience.

Frozen crab cakes, yuk! Followed by tough lamb, vile! Wanted to give this restaurant the benefit of doubt after experiencing a very disappointing meal last time we went (supposedly Dhansak dish presented with no lentils, after raising the issue they admitted I had been given the wrong dish). However tonight after biting into frozen crab cakes and being told by the proprietor ‘I won’t charge you for those’ as he endeavoured to whisk them away without anyone else noticing, I am so annoyed we bothered to give this sorry excuse of a ‘restaurant’ another try. He really wasn’t that bothered about us, just wanted to hush us up with least amount of fuss attitude, after all he had plenty more hungry patrons on-site. It would seem he was more concerned with the fact we weren’t drinking our wine as quickly as he’d anticipated, as he hastily tried to top up our glasses. This establishment is an absolute horror! Bums on seats, get them in and get them out management mantra and mediocre indian slop for us poor fools who venture to eat there.

Had a meal here with my hubby on a Saturday night the food was lovely, staff ok but small portions served and with my love of Indian food in many Indian restaurants was overpriced, sorry I would not return or recommend .

I recently attended Ghandi's with a group of 33 for a birthday meal. Whilst the food was nice, and the staff were very helpful and flexible in accommodating our group before the event, there were a few clangers that left me feeling disappointed with our overall experience. Firstly, despite multiple warnings from us of a serious nut allergy within our group, the guest in question was ultimately served a curry dish with nuts in. The guest asked two different staff members before eating who both confirmed the dish was nut free. This ruined the guest's evening, and they had a sleepless night vomiting. On this occasion they weren't hospitalised, but on another night it could have been a lot worse. Whilst mistakes can happen, especially with a large group, the most disappointing thing is that when we quietly and politely raised the issue with the staff, they claimed the guest must have eaten food from someone else's plate. They also didn't offer any compensation for this and we were still charged the full price for this guests meal (£45 from the set menu, even though they only had a few mouthfuls). The second issue was a caterpillar was served underneath a lettuce leaf on one of the starters. Again, I appreciate mistakes can happen, but this certainly falls well below the standards of high quality cuisine the restaurant markets itself as serving. We raised this issue quietly to avoid disturbing other guests. Again though, I was more disappointed with how the staff dealt with this issue. At the end of the meal, I had to politely negotiate regarding the bill - ultimately resulting in them giving us only one free drink as a result, even though the guest affected by this incident still paid £45. I was expecting a more sincere apology and an offer to waive the charge for this guest, given it put them off their main course. On balance, only 2 guests out of 33 had a poor experience, and the food was generally nice and well received, but the nut allergy could have been a very serious issue. I was ultimately left feeling upset with how the staff handled these incidents, they were immediately defensive and somewhat rude, rather than apologetic. I would definitely think twice before returning in future, and I think the staff need to seriously consider the standard of customer service given the high prices charged per person.

My wife and I visited for dinner. As a starter, I chose Chicken tandoori on the bone. This had been well marinated and had a good tandoori (touches of charring) flavour. For my main I chose King Prawn Jalfredi. I had eaten this six days before (at the Coriander Lounge in Southampton). There, I had three very large prawns, tandoor-cooked in the shell. Here the king prawns were out of the shell, but very fresh and tender indeed. There were also a lot of them! Both version of the dish were equally enjoyable. The accompanying rice was very good too, We enjoyed the draft Cobra beer, too. The service was good, as was the table presentation.

Food was incredible really tasty and spiced just right. Menu was quite different which was nice to choose an alternative but still had the standard favourites.

Excellent service, friendly and professional. The meal i ordered was way to hot for me ( my fault entirely as I didn’t take my glasses and missed the green chilli part) They offered to replace the whole dish with one without chilli. Nothing was too much trouble for them, we will be back again with my glasses.

I had visited the Gandhi pre the pandemic and it was good then. I had viewed the menu on the website and was impressed with the variety and different dishes that were on offer when comparing them with other Indian Restaurants. I did notice the menu on the website was from 2022 so needs updating but thankfully on arrival the dishes were on the menu albeit and understandably at higher prices. I started with the mixed starter which was very generous in portion and tasty. A good choice if you can’t make up your mind. This was followed by the dish simply called beef. Slow cooked Ox cheeks. This was exceptional brilliantly spiced and the meat simply cooked perfectly. We were given plenty of time never rushed so the service was also first class. I certainly won’t leave it so long before I return.

We absolutely love this restaurant if there is better Indian food out there, we would be surprised. Tasty and generous, very nice staff , can't recommend highly enough

Outstanding service and food on a busy Father's Day evening, We had not booked, it was a spur of the moment decision - we just arrived toward the end of the evening - and boy, they were still 'on it' It was our first visit, on the advice of the friends we were with, and for sure will not be our last. J’y suis allé deux soirs de suite. La cuisine est bonne mais pas exceptionnelle. C’est fin mais les portions sont ténues. Rien à redire sur la qualité et la saveur. Par contre les nombreux serveurs tournent autour de vous comme des goélands affamés et vous débarrassent la table alors que vous mâchez encore la dernière bouchée. Dommage !

Really enjoyed our night at Ghandi. Truly flavoursome curries with excellent execution. Everything was piping hot, superb popadoms, great sides, especially the Dahl. two had the tandoori mixed grill and it was Devine. Great service from the owner as well Reggie, really nice chap who gave sound advice and recomendations. Will definitely return to this hidden gem at the bottom of town. Great service, some food was spot on and others lacked a little especially for the price you are paying (maybe this is Winchester as a whole). The recommendations where brilliant but I feel that the vinadloo was lacking (typically this is the dish most Indians get lazy with and rather than making it tasty they just add Chili powder which was the case here) Would come back but wasn’t the best curry I’ve had in my life.

So why do they display a ‘Lunch Menu’ in their window yet when you sit down at lunchtime they do not give you the Lunch Menu until specifically requested. At the end of the meal why does the bill presented not correctly show the prices as detailed on their Lunch Menu (needlessly to say 1st bill was higher). Sadly this practice very much detracted from our experience despite the fact that the food was good.

Monday it was closed, no mention on the website it said it was open. Tried phoning answer machine said we'll call you back, no mention of being closed.

Booked a table for two. Polite and friendly staff from the onset. Tasty food, good food portions and staff very helpful in food suggestions. Recommended.

Amazing meal. I ordered the curried shoulder of mutton with a stuffed paratha. Onion Bhajis and mushroom rice. Every mouthful was amazing but the mutton was sublime as was the paratha. Just the best Indian meal I’ve ever had and I’ve had quite a few. 10/10. Not cheap but quality is worth paying for.

Most of the curries were good. Some popadums were stale, mint sauce that accompanied popadums was horrid. Tasted like had wasabi or something in it. Have been here before and mint sauce was amazing. Bring back the original, new recipe not good at all!

Winchester locals and have been coming here for years and years. Never once been disappointed. Ronnie is a superb host as are all of the waiters. Delicious, authentic Indian cuisine and we always look forward to coming back.

My second visit to Gandhi; my first was in March before the lockdown. I had the King Prawn Chilli Masala; a delicious tomato-based, diary-free, sauce with onions, chillies, and fresh tomatoes. I have also had this dish via Deliveroo. The sauce is rich, however, the restaurant could select a larger variety of king prawn to go with this dish, like the ones used in the 'Goan Tamari Prawns'.The saag panir is thick, and it is a decent size for a side dish. For over £5, side dishes are more expensive compared to most other Indian restaurants.£20, with the £10 discount, is good value, otherwise I would say it is marginally more expensive than most venues outside London. It is definitely worth a visit; I may try the 'King Prawn Tikka Masala' next time.In terms of the venue being COVID-secure, the tables were not distanced enough, and I was sitting within 2 m of another bubble. All the waiters, except for one, were wearing masks.Prices are the same as before July 15, so the Gandhi has decided not to pass on the 15% savings in VAT to their customers.

The staff understood our requirements and produced some excellent food. Actually it was brilliant, very tasty with varied options particularly as we love having vegetables. Service was good and fast. We would strongly recommend this place. We look forward to when the restaurant is fully open.

I finally decided after a long time of eating home cooked food during lockdown to get a takeaway after Gandhi’s had recently reopened. Unfortunately the quality was not up to the usual standard. There was very little flavour and taste to the dishes. I find it difficult to justify the high prices in this restaurant but because it normally tastes great i accept it. Not sure if the chef was not the usual one but I may look at other establishments next time. Maybe I will give them a second chance as this is the first meal that’s not been good and considering the current situation.......

I'm just gonna start by saying there is nothing wrong with the food, it tastes good. But the seafood platter I ordered. FOR £9.95!!!!!! IS A JOKE (SEE pictures) almost nothing on it, and on the menu it's stated as plural items of each. Very disappointed, not worth a 10'er for that, not even close... the rest of the food was also not labelled correctly, and with dishes that all look the same, we had to taste all of it to figure out which was which. Will most likely not order from here again..

I have been visiting this restaurant for 4 years now, and never have had a bad experience. Have recommended to many friends and work colleagues, who like us have had an amazing experience! I live in Essex, and stay in Winchester once a week with my work - there are many restaurants in Winchester, but this is always the best. Ronnie takes pride in serving the best Indian cuisine, and always looks after myself and college. Keep up the good work Uncle Ronnie!!

Friendly, helpful staff and excellent service as always. Food was amazing as usual and we will always keep on coming back. Don't book online though - this was the first time having done so and we were put upstairs which means you can be sharing it with a large, noisy group if you're unlucky as it is such a small space. Always phone and book and ask to be downstairs, it makes for a great atmosphere and an enjoyable evening.

Managed to get a table at short notice on a Saturday night. I had had a meal here before a couple of years ago and found it to be excellent. This time was no different. The food was fresh, hot and delivered incredibly quickly. You can tell how popular it is By the sheer numbers of people both eating in and waiting for takeaway, however I do have one gripe and it is this. It is incredibly noisy and is not at all conducive to a romantic meal for two. It is almost a victim of its own success, or perhaps its own greed! If it didn’t pick so many people in, then maybe the noise volume would be lower. By the same token though, if they hadn’t kept so many people and we wouldn’t possibly have got a table at all. On balance the food was worth the noise and was very reasonably priced for the value

Our friends have been coming here for years but it was our first visit. We were greeted warmly by the owner who knew our friends. The service was friendly and very efficient despite the restaurant being packed. The food was tasty and plentiful and the restaurant had a good vibe. Nice touch with the bailey's and rum at the end. We enjoyed the evening and will be back
