Booked this restaurant by email for my sons 24th birthday celebration on 4/10/16 I received 2 emails confirming the booking one received on the 3rd the second on the 4th confirming the date time and amount of people to be seated. We all turned up to a closed restaurant. I've emailed but no reply has been received as yet. Telephone number has message advising they can't take the call. Very disappointing. Bookings by email should not be taken when a place has closed down.

Like most reviews for Gambrino say the food is lovely. Really nice atmosphere too. It has an old fashioned feel to it - you know those places that used to have fake grapes and vines hanging on the ceiling coves. This is nice though. The food is good. It won't blow you out of the water but it is consistently good, tasty snd comforting. This has become our dependable place. They mix it up with wine specials from certain regions of Italy as well as a regular specials menu.Staff were friendly and efficient. They asked how our food was and if we needed anything else, all with a smile. If you can try and get a window seat. Also we booked online as they have an online booking thing on their website was handy.

A very good Italian and while that may not be special the service food and atmosphere combined meant it deserves 5 out of 5. It was a little cramped and we struggled to get out when my 3 year old needed the loo. But other than that I cannot fault it. The filled pasta (which is usually never enough for me) filled me up and was mouth watering good. The kids had a good selection to choose from too. All in all I cannot fault the place.

Not a fan of the new menu look, it's hard to read I was with 5 friends and I had to tell them all what it said. I had penne pasta with Italian sausage, I was disappointed with how little sausage there was. My friends enjoyed there meal. Dessert was hot caramel short cake and ice cream. I was in Glasgow for a couple of nights with work and I wanted somewhere decent to eat somewhere close to my accommodation and not too expensive. Gambrino popped up in my online search so I decided to give it a go.The pre-theatre menu was still available (5.00pm - 7.00pm) and at £11.95 for 3 courses, it seemed worth a try. I'm very glad I did.First off, I was given a bowl of olives to munch while I waited for my dinner. I had Italian Bean Stew to start, not on the main menu, but it was delicious and came with two hunks of garlic bread. For main course, I had fillet of seabass on a bed of wilted spinach, slaso and buttered baby potatoes. Again, delicious. If I'd had a bigger appetite, a sweet was available for an extra £2, but I stopped after the fish.I was so impressed, I went back the next night and had the bean stew again with Linguine al Salmone for main. I'd happily have that again too.

Visited Gambrinos recently with my wife for a quick bite to eat. We have driven past this place for years and we have always thought that from the outside it seems to be a well established buzzing Italian restaurant that's been open for years. When we got inside though we got a weird vibe that no one really wanted to be there. The restaurant was reasonably quiet considering it was a Friday night very close to Christmas. On looking at the menu which we were firstly amazed at the fact that there is no salads!!! My wife opted for the only salad on the menu which was a tomato and mozzarella salad with pesto dressing. However, when it arrived it there was no pesto dressing so it was just slices of mozzarella and tomato. Not worth the high price tag. I opted for a dish from the specials menu which was tagliatelle with braised beef. This was satisfactory although I feel still not worth the £16.95 price tag. This restaurant has a strong feel of a place that used to be good and is now going through the motions with a distinct lack of passion and a large dash of pretentiousness.

This has always been a total favourite of ours due to amazing food and great service. However tonight was a disaster. Garlic and rosemary focaccia was dry and bland (no garlic on it), sausage pasta had 2(!!!) pieces of sausage and ssteak which we asked for medium rare was burnt. Coke came with empty glass, had to ask for ice, then had to Aj for straw. Most waiting staff sullen and not keen to help (when pasta put down had to then ask for Parmesan which appeared to be rationed). Only positive was the lady who seared to be manager who was very helpful and seemed embarrassed at the state of the food and the service. Not good from somewhere which is normally great.

Used to love coming here but after a recent experience we will not be going back. The restaurant had a very string odour, hard to say what it was but was almost like cleaning fluid and a dirty mop had been used on the toilets and then dragged through the restaurant.Food was terrible, seafood pasta dish consisted of 3 prawns and a bit of squid. Carbonara was congealed and upset my stomach (not food poisoning, more just an objection to the quality), and one dish was sent back to be replaced with a different one of equal misery.Horrible atmosphere and ruined a long awaited family celebration. Gambrinos has lost custom for good after tonight's rude arrogant and confrontational waitress reacting to informing her of lower than normal quality food and poor service. My custom, that of my family and my husband's family after hearing of tonight's fiasco will not be given again. We have together and separately eaten here on a regular basis for many years. My sister and I were moved to a quieter seat after my request to be moved as our original seat was beside a party of 8. The waitress was very pleasant moving us to a seat by the window. It was at the front of the restaurant and in an alcove in the front away from the main body of the restaurant . After placing our food order it took an unusually long time to cook a pizza & pasta meal. No mention was made of the length of time this took when it was eventually delivered to the table. The fries did not arrive with our meal and no one came to the table to ask if our meal was ok. The pasta in the salmon dish was was al dente to say the least. I suspect this order was forgotten about given the unusually long wait. After we finished the same waitress who seated us and had taken our order took the plates away and I mentioned that the fries did not come and she replied in a jovial way to ask if we now wanted the fries at the end of our meal. We made light of this but again no apology was made! After receiving the bill another waitress took the money away and returned the change to the table without uttering a word, ungrateful for our custom and uncommunicative. How difficult is it to say thanks?! As no one had bothered throughout the meal to ask how it was I took the opportunity when we left to speak pleasantly to the waitress that dealt with the bill saying that it was not the usual standard of food nor service & that we were used to as regular customers. She pretended to look horrified and pulled a sarcastic childish face, looking over at the other waitress yet did not utter one word nor ask why that was the case or indeed apologise. Her attitude was confrontational with a look of disgust. I walked out the restaurant in disbelief that this had been received in a highly inappropriate way. School canteen, immature, child like huffy behaviour or serving long standing loyal customers properly with some dignity? Raise the game, grow up and apologise when you get it wrong. And just in case this is forgotten - I paid to be insulted tonight. This kind of unfathomable attitude is what gradually eats into a customer loyalty base often unnoticed by the owner. I'm complaining but how many more don't and won't return. Worth missing this restaurant- there are plenty locally that value customers and treat them with respect.

For people who want a quick sum up: Domino's serve better, more authentic pizza than this. We decided to stop eating midway through our dinner and go somewhere else as the desire to be sick was growing too strong to try and politely make a stab at any more. Tricked by older good reviews when looking for a nice Italian pizza in Glasgow, we unfortunately ended up here. When the resteraunt was empty upon us entering at dinner time on a Friday night we should have been suspicious but sadly we wasted money instead. We ordered 'handmade' Italian bread and butter which turned out to be 3 slices of (if not bought from a shop then most definitely made at least 5 days ago) bread with quite a strong elastic quality. The butter supplied was frozen solid in a packet - seriously? Is a butter dish to hide the laziness too much to ask? Are we to ration the 2 measly butter packets between the 3 slices of bread? The pizza's were the kind of dish you see in front of you and immediately fill with disappointment knowing you will have to put your body through this. Ever seen a pizza so oily that every element of the dish has gone a neon orange? It's too soon to even talk about the cheese. This is situated literally next to a fresh vegetable store. There are some of the finest cheese shops in the area doors away. There is no excuse for this kind of poor quality, especially for a resteraunt that boasts of using organic materials wherever possible. I now cringe inwardly at the thought of this resteraunt using such a statement in relation to that standard of food. I feel awkward for the people who work here and have to serve this to fellow human beings.

The atmosphere, service, food and wine are all spot on and SO reasonably priced - when the bill came it was £20 less than I'd estimated it would be (I even double checked to make sure everything was on it and it was!) The Tiramissu is the best I've ever had and our mixed bread starter with toppings was lush and the perfect start for two to share. My husband had the linguine with scallops and it was so delicious with plenty of really big scallops. Booked Gambrinos for a pre-Pantomime meal (Alladin @ Webbers Theatre - absolutely brilliant show!!) with daughter and her pal. When we arrived the restaurant was REALLY busy with office parties and, to be honest, we were a wee bit worried that with so many large parties dining, things wouldn't be up to scratch or particularly child friendly. Should have known better! We were met by a lovely member of staff who showed to a table a little away from the office groups so it was quiet enough for the kids to chat but still had the lively buzz of the restaurant. Drinks orders were taken (and delivered) promptly as were the food choices. Everything was delicious pasta, pizza and the kids' favourite lasagne. The staff were absolutely brilliant - nothing was too much trouble, despite the restaurant being extremely busy and the value for money was excellent. This really is a gem of a restaurant - either for a quiet dinner for two, or for a family get together ... or definitely the office party! Cannot complain about any aspect of the meal, the service or the staff - and why would I want to? They were all superb!

We had fantastic mussels in a white wine sauce to start with some lovely bruschetta. Our mains were both stunning again with us having a dish with scallops and another with ham and chilli. Gorgeous meal and attentive service. A fantastic relaxing place to eat in such a handy west end location.

Visited here on 27th dec. the service was really terrible. I think they were short staffed but it took ages to order drinks and food and for them then to arrive: waitresses also a bit rude. Everyone has always raved about gambrinos so I was really looking forward to it however the food was extremely average. The bruschetta to start was nice but the arribiata was like something out a ready meal. It's quite cheap so you get what you pay for but I wouldn't recommend this for a nice meal out.

I love this place after being introduced by a friend and been meaning to review it since I've been a few times now. Staff always helpful and friendly, nice big glasses of wine and the food is always good. I had carbonara last time and it was the best I've had, the bread is a delight and puddings a real treat. Nice place to sit,eat and chat.

Used to go to this restaurant when I lived round the corner decided to go back on a recent visit for old times sake. Love the atmosphere of this place feels authentic Italian. Food didn't disappoint and service was excellent it was also good value for money. Only downside was that menu didn't have pork dishes or steak dishes however there was plenty pasta/pizza choices and the chicken dish I chose was delicious. Will return!!

I just love it and i've been there twice a week . My first year in Glasgow while i always feel like to try something new, i originally plan to go home and make lunch myself , but i just failed to resist its charming passing it and just suddenly whimsically changed my trajectory right into the little gem again. I love the minestrone soup so much esp. the generous portions of butter and bread. I also love the pudding there . The spaggehti was a little raw inside to my liking , but very attentive and lovely waitress there and next time i think i am going to ask for a more soft noodles there.

Food was average, waited 40 minutes on some simple starters. Average meal. Staff weren't attentive. Mediocre at best. Had finished my drink whilst waiting on starters for a good 25 minutes to not be asked if I wanted another until we finally received our food. Nice atmosphere but could get much better food at chains such as Zizzis etc in the west end.

My teenage son and I went here for a quick dinner on Sunday night - I liked the look of it when we drove past so we changed our plans from trying our luck down byres rd. And I'm very glad we did.The teenager was ravenous - as only boys that age can be. We were welcomed by a very charming and pretty waitress who brought over menus - including the pre-theatre menu which we were bang on time to miss. When she came to take our order, there was no suggestion that we could not have it. A good start. We both had minestrone - surprisingly potato instead of pasta - and quite a small bowl - but delicious, with fresh bread and very generous portions of butter. The boy moved on to a pizza which disappeared in a flash, punctuated by the odd appreciative grunt. The base - from the morsel I got to sample - was crisp on edges and nice and stretchy in the middle. I had sea bream - 2 beautifully cooked fillets, good enough to rival any specialist seafood place I've eaten in. They were served with caper lemon oil, mash and deliciously garlicky buttery green beans. This was a really great dish, superbly cooked. The boy had choc fudge cake and ice cream - too rich for me and, finally, for him.The bill was a very reasonable £36, inc 3 drinks. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend - please go here before you go to one of the plastic byres road places. You will be glad you did.

Have been here several times and cannot recommend it highly enough. House made breads, pizza and pasta, local free range meats and veg.The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and welcoming plus the restaurant itself is so nice inside, perfect for a wee romantic evening or a nice family meal alike. Plus you won't find that quality of food or service in town for the price we paid for 2 of us. £67 for 3 courses including the bottle of wine. A bargain for the quality.

This was my first time visiting Gambrino, but I would definitely go back, we went along early Saturday evening for a family meal. Although it was quiet when we arrived, it soon filled up. The food was very good, the mussels starter was the best I have had in a long time. The prawn cocktail and soup were also delicious. The steak special was devoured, the carbonara and chicken padella was also very tasty. Service was good staff were excellent. A rustic feel to the restaurant very family friendly, and good value for money.

We chose this casual eatery mainly due its close proximity to our accommodation and were delighted with the quality of the food and the wine list. The restaurant accommodated our party of 10 with no fuss and the menu was much more extensive than displayed externally. The wine list included some Italian wines and the service was friendly. The 2 course dinner menu available prior to 7pm is great value.

We have been coming here for years and the food and service is always excellent. However when we visited the staff had booked too many people in, including at least two parties of over 8. As a result of this the food came much slower than usally. The staff are and atmosphere are always great. Also if the owners/staff are reading the Chocolate Tarts were great, but they had only been taken out the chiller just before they were served and were rock solid.

Went in for a quick pizza and beer in between footie games last week and its nice to see the high standards have been maintained. Had the anchovy and caper pizza which was superb! Probably the best place to get pizza in Glasgow. The pizza was only part of the great experience however; when my beer was brought to the table I noticed that there was a blue-bottle in it! Sounds bad but, as a waiter, I know that these sorts of things happen and are unavoidable. The positive from this was the manner in which the staff dealt with this minor issue. They profusely apologised and gave not only myself but my friend a free beer on the house! Exceptional generosity from an exceptional restaurant.

Gambrinos has been in the heart of the Woodlands area of Glasgow for decades. It's one of many local, wee restaurants that has stood the test of time, it has been here for many years and not changed one bit, which is why all the locals love this place so much. It has no pretensions, it is just a lovely, local restaurant. I realised I've written reviews for places all over the world, but never for the little places I visit all the time on my door-step. The owner is often there, he knows your name if you are a returning diner and always makes an effort to come over for a chat. We know all the staff who have been there for quite a while and they enthusiastically greet you and are extremely efficient. It's often busy, but they will always find a way to squeeze in the regulars. Their pizzas are delicious and they also have a wide range of pasta dishes. The wine list has recently been changed and there's lots of choice at all price points, but as is the case with most good, local Italian restaurants, their house red is reasonably priced and very quaffable. Don't expect funky, modern decor when you go to Gambrinos, it's always been decked out in the typical old fashioned Italian way, i.e. a terracotta vibe, but that's what makes it so inviting and reassuring because when all the restaurants around it are constantly going through make-overs, they don't need to. I've never had a poor meal here, granted we have our favourite dishes which we often order, but I've occasionally diverted and they always have great specials on each day. The customers are also an extremely eclectic mix. You will find, couples on first dates, young people, old people, people with kids or a big table in the middle where a huge family is out for a celebration. I think is is rare that a restaurant be frequently by such a diverse group of diners, it's quite lovely. If you want a decent, down-to-earth, lovely, warm dining experience that is not pretentious, then this is the place for you. Gambrinos has been here for decades, so they must be doing something right and the locals absolutely love it. That, to me, says more than any review ever could.

We went here pre-Hydro concert as it was near my son's flat. The food was adequate, pasta, pizza and chicken were ordered. The desserts were good but we did order from the home-made menu. My son had a brownie (okay, American!) and I had tiramisu. It's a bit cramped especially having to negotiate one's way to the rest rooms amongst the tables. There are much better Italian experiences and food to be had in Glasgow. Parking would normally be difficult (i.e. without residents permit). Our waitress didn't have English as her first language and had another waitress assisting her, which was odd.

.Place looked quite cosy. Nice smile from waitress when we asked if a table was available for 5, (3 adults 2 children). Why would you want to place a family with children in the middle of the restaurant???I couldn't tell you how many times my chair was bumped from people/waitresses passing through. Our shared starter, tomato focaccia was disgusting, soggy dough with tom paste and cherry toms on top. Antipasto ( salami) was rancid, no bread to accompany the antipasto. Not a good experience whatsoever. I had mussels for main course, which were ok, the sauce was awful.Children had a sweet. Why on earth would you put chocolate fudge cake and ice-cream/cream on a "side plate".? Sort it out .

We went here prior to attending Partick Thistle games but will have to stop now. The food is OK, usually served with a smile, but now, at not far off £5 for a pint of beer, must find a different venue. There are many in the area so no real problem. Should anyone wish to go to Gambrinos, as mentioned, food is fine, with pre-theatre and lunch deals reasonable.

We went for a sort of date dinner (we've been together forever but y'know!) before going to the cinema, thinking that over an hour & a half would be more than ample time to dine given the restaurant is downstairs from the cinema. We'd seen their 3 course offer before, so we skipped lunch & looked forward to a feeding! Big mistake. The service was so slow that we ended up having to ask what was typically the quickest thing to be cooked and served?! The time was basically being swallowed bit by bit! First of all, we waited for a noticeably long time to get seated - to the point we started looking around at the other restaurants & started a count-down! This was Sunday dinner time, but the place wasn't that busy with lots of empty tables. We were given the choice of inside or out & as it was a cold night in Glasgow, even though they're inside the shopping mall, we went for inside but this appeared to make little difference as we were seated in a thoroughfare type area, near the toilets & whenever anyone walked by, which was very frequently, they seemed to carry an arctic wind with them! We should have asked to be moved, so that's on us, but maybe they should rethink the layout of their tables? We waited ages to order our drinks and again started a count-down and began considering fast food options nearby! If we didn't have the cinema booked & weren't on so tight a schedule by this point, we'd definitely have left & we were ready to go to the nearby Five Guys when the colleague arrived. Annoyingly, I'd even tried to do part of the work myself and order by scanning the QR code however it didn't recognise 9 as a valid table number?! So we ordered drinks and chose our pizzas but it was suggested we order pasta if we were in a hurry which, by now, we were. So we quickly changed our minds whilst ordering; I opted for the spicy chicken & my partner chose the bolognese. The meals did arrive relatively quickly, but they were not good. My pasta was tasteless, and my partner's meal was so water- logged it was practically soup! A check on us at the table would've given the chance to raise the issue but the portions were so small that we'd eaten within 5-10 minutes! So by the time she came by, presumably to check on us, we were looking for the bill! The reason I'm not giving one star for this review is that the colleague who dealt with us took on board the feedback at the table and wrote off the bill. We ate what we were given as we were hungry and had limited time to go elsewhere, but as we had stayed and ate, we were prepared to pay - even though the price vs potion size was ridiculous. Again, I had no time to debate the issue, so I was going to accept this as a bad experience to be learned from. They explained, however, that the chef was new and understood our points. So they're getting their 3 stars for their, albeit eventual, customer service. We will probably give the place another chance; it's never been the best Italian restaurant in town, but you could do far worse. Ultimately, the lesson learned for us: never try and do dinner on a timescale unless you have a booking & pre-order if you can!
