The food , waiters and overall dining experience were second yo none . The steak scallops and lamb were all out of this world , and the staff made our night a night to remember . Thank you for a truly wonderful dining experience

My big 60th bash had to be cancelled of course, so 5 of us went for dinner. Pretty casual and laid back for a Mich star joint, but were absolutely resolute when I asked if they could do the tasting/wine menu for 3 of us. Nope - all of the table or none. This is so idiotic. If we'd been a table of 3, no problem. And yes - I realised the timing doesn't match if the others are having 3 or 4 courses only, but that's down to the group. Anyhow - I was disappointed, as I so wanted it and had hoped to persuade. At least it made the bill a lot less than I had budgeted!Crab lasagne was a delightful little thing. Texture a little slimy, but taste good. Beef also good, though a taster portion. Two had the lamb rump - one was chewy, but he did not want to send it back. We asked if the cheese was chilled - she said yes, but it wasn't. Nicely room temp. The three wine match is flash, and rather good. Overall a nice evening with decent food. Didn't blow my socks off, and I do wish they'd be flexible with the tasting menu. 3.1/2 stars.

Galvin Cafe a Vin

28/10/2020: Having been regulars at Galvin restaurants for many years we had also missed the Baker Street Brasserie de Luxe. The Athaneum (now gone) had a nice menu but atmosphere was not the same. Our favourite is La Chapelle and the Bistrot and Bar occupies the sapce behind having had previous guises. We took advantage of the three courses for £29 special which was terrific value. The space is lovely and typically French with simple tables and chairs well spaced and COVID safe. Staff all wear masks and are all friendly and helpful - several have been with the Galvin group for some time.Starters of Fish Soup and a Roquefort Salad were generous portions and very tasty, mains of Calves Liver (cooked to perfection) and Roast Wild Sea Bass both very enjoyable. We barely had room for deserts but the chocolate mousse was to die for and the Cafe gourmand (a small creme brulee together with coffee) too good to miss out on.There is a short wine list with several available in 500ml carafes but the wine list from La Chapelle next door was available and we had a lovely Cote de Ventoux from Chateau Unang which matched the contrasting flavours well. For a Tuesday lunchtime under the current climate it was reasonably well patronised and we will have no hesitation in going back soon. The problem is choosing between the bistrot and La Chapelle!
19/10/2020: I don’t think you can fault the Galvin brand...we love all of their restaurants and were eager to take them up on their ‘fixed price’ menu including aperitif....Sunday lunch was spot on although I had set my heart on the liver and bacon (not on the menu)excellent friendly service and great tasting absolutely no complaints from us.keep up the great work
