Third visit today in a few years - first experience was exceptional, second was great, third was okay. Overall it's an enjoyable meal in a beautiful building with good service, but it's not good enough for the options at this price point in London and unfortunately I won't be returning. I've detailed the reasons below. Individually these could be ignored. But a lukewarm welcome, not explaining the process, offering a limited and verbal vegetarian menu, spilling a drink, overcharging on a bill, all for £180 for two people? In my opinion, it's just not worth it when there are so many options in London. - The entrance and exit experience feels flat, like checking in at a basic hotel. - No one was in control, nor explained what to expect. The first waiter presented a wine menu, which I explained we wouldn't need as we were having the set menu which came with wine. He seemed frustrated, and said my choice was Sauvignon blanc or garnacha. But he didn't take my wine order, this was taken later with the food menu. If I'd ordered wine and then been given the set menu, I'd be disappointed to see wine was an option. - Although the second waiter acknowledged that we were vegetarian, as we had let them know before arriving, a vegetarian menu was not provided and instead he verbally explained the vegetarian options to us, which made the menu largely redundant as all mains were meat or fish. Why not print off a few vegetarian menus? - A different waiter served us bread, and a fourth waiter took away our plates. A few times they asked the table next to us the same thing - do you want to order water when there was water on the table, asking if everything is okay when someone else asked a few minutes ago. Why are four different people serving a table of two? - I struggled to understand what some of the waiting staff were saying at times. Partly this is the acoustics of the room, partly the accents, but also partly that it feels like the staff are repeating the same process day in day out, like it's a script. I also find that there is an aloofness with some of the older waiting staff. - This is a pedantic point to raise, but when the waiter first poured our water, he spilled some on the glass and the table. It was rushed, even though it's a few seconds to do properly. - The vegetarian options were both limited in number and focus. They were effectively the meat options, without the meat. This meant one of the starters was some lentils and soup, barely five spoonfulls. The protein however wasn't replaced, which meant we left hungry. We had the exact same experience previously with the tasting menu. - Finally, we were overcharged on the bill for two bottles of water, when we only ordered the one, which I had to highlight to the waiter. As I say, all small issues. But not at this price point in a Michelin starred restaurant.

Nice restaurant with good service - though someone felt it was a bit rushed for the service. That was why four ⭐️ here…. Personally, I think I just enjoy more casual or non-Michelin-star food. I’ve been to three one-star Michelin restaurants recently, in both London and DC, and honestly, I wasn’t that impressed considering how much they charged. I did like their high ceilings and the vibe. Enjoy the quietness ambience while eating. I enjoyed more of the food next door from the bistro - they belong to the same owner- especially the escargots and the lamb dishes. Still, totally worth it for the good memories and sharing a fancy night with someone special! Recommend for this purpose:-)

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Galvin La Chapelle on Mother's Day — a truly special occasion for my husband and me — and the experience was nothing short of exquisite. From the moment we stepped into the stunning interior, we were swept away by the elegant ambiance. The food was divine, each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. But what made the evening unforgettable was the warmth and attentiveness of the staff. A very special thank you to Hawa, who added such grace and charm to our experience. She was kind, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive — a truly lovely soul who made our evening feel extra special. Please do pass along our heartfelt thanks to her. The little surprises and thoughtful touches throughout the evening added so much joy — we left with full hearts, happy taste buds, and big smiles on our faces. We’re already looking forward to returning to this gem of a restaurant.

This was our first experience in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Upon entry we were showed to our table but before I had even sat down, the waiter asked if we’d like to move to a quieter area as we’d been seated in the main thoroughfare. It was a kind gesture which we accepted. They quickly made up our new table and we were seated there. It was right beside the kitchen so a great view for us (as we’re nosy) but also had a view of the whole dining room too. Our server (I think his names was Farae) was brilliant. Very attentive, kind and welcoming. We were also greeted by a manager. The food was sublime and, for a picky eater like me, I finished every plate! Our favourite was the sea bream and also the chocolate dessert. The cocktails (although expensive) were lovely and had a great strength. Half way through the meal we noticed a different manager speaking quite loudly and firmly to our waiter, which didn’t seem overly professional considering we were in earshot. My father asked the waiter if he’s normally spoken to in that manner, to which he laughed and said he was okay. We did the five course tasting menu but chose to add the extra course sixth course which was a brie on toast with truffle. It was a bit of a letdown, especially considering it was £15 each for one piece. We mentioned this to the manager (I think his name was Dominico) who welcomed the feedback and graciously removed the extra cost from our bill. As we were about to leave, the other manager came over and said that the waiter had mentioned we didn’t appreciate his loud tone and he apologised for the way he acted, which he didn’t need to do. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we’d love to come back one day for a special occasion.

Overall I was very disappointed. The bonbon desert is lost on that plate and felt like I was missing the other half of the desert. The taste of their butter is overpowering with the taste of anchovy We had the wrong whiskey poured and had to send it back! I wouldn’t go again! For me very over rated

It's easily one of the most beautiful interiors of any restaurant i have eaten in. A fine dining 1* Michelin experience from the moment we came into the building. The a la carte menu looked very enticing, but as it was lunch, we made do with the set lunch menu at 3 courses for €55. Add a little wine and an Aperitif we ended at over double that. This is not too unexpected as the wine list is very Michelin indeed. Every single course was exceptional, and bearing in mind this was "just" the lunch set menu, this is very high praise indeed. There were 4 of us, and we ended up with a wide variety of dishes in all 3 courses encompassing most of the menu. The fact that we didn't have one weak dish says it all. I can not emphasise how fantastic the entire experience was. The atmosphere was casual and elegant. The service was faultless, and the food was one perfectly cooked dish after another. Maybe the best Michelin 1* restaurant i have been to, and it was refreshing to see people comfortable in that category and not trying too hard (as some Michelin 1* often do to earn that elusive 2nd star and the dishes suffer and become to experimental for my tastes). Highly recommended, and if the price of €100 each does not scare you, this is a must visit. Fantastic.

If you haven't been yet, then now is the time to go. Situated centrally (5-10min from Liverpool Street Station), the superbly maintained chapel encases you from the world outside, and the staff and food keep you there. Brilliant service, brilliant food – well-deserving of all the good things you've heard about it. All one of the best Tarte tatins you will have, alongside a delicious paired dessert wine. Again, time to go! (Price: Usually only just over the £100+, and if you decide to eat/drink a bit more, you shouldn't really be going over £150. Definitely special occasion-worthy in case you're still in doubt.)

Michelin star proves itself: great food, service and ambience. Classic modern European cuisine dishes. Food came quickly, could easily fit our dining experience within 2 hours booked. The set menu is value for money, for 77GBP got a 3 course meal with half bottle wine, coffee and petit fours. We got a sweet postcard and chocolate for our wedding anniversary, that was kind. They serve tap water timely, so you are not thirsty. You get good attention by the waiter. Tables are cleaned, toilet hygiene was good. We were seated at a table with a cover over it, so the ceiling view was obscured. Not a big deal for me, but if you want a better view (and the ceiling view is great there) you should inform them during booking.

We’ve dined at most of the Galvin brothers’ restaurants, several of which are sadly no more, but for some reason we’d not been to la Chapelle so arranged lunch with friends who share our love of good food and wine. The building and interior furnishings provide a lovely setting and we were well looked after by attentive (but not too much so) staff throughout. The menu du chef is just right for a leisurely lunch and we never felt hurried, unlike some Michelin restaurants (e.g. Sabor) who try to push diners through like they’re in a fast-food joint, and the food was uniformly excellent. My issues are with the wine list, which is good but eye-wateringly expensive, and a standard 14.5% service charge which is simply not justified (paid it almost out of politeness but on reflection should have said something at the time and opted for a more appropriate number). The other thing Galvin really must address is a lethal step just inside the front door (very difficult to see as you enter from the street into a dimly lit lobby) which our friend tripped up and almost went head-long into a glazed screen, so was very fortunate not to hurt herself. Overall an enjoyable occasion but with a few key negatives, so only 3*

Thought the lunch menu was marginally good value for money for just a one-off, but won't come back for the tasting menu. Cured trout was nice. The presentation was slightly disappointing; yellowish white smoked potato foam served on a white plate, feeling a bit bland and not so appetising for visual to start. Not enjoying the coarse texture of the bread either, but not too bad. Red mullet was nice. The thicker fillet on the top was cooked to perfection. The thinner fillet below was rather dry, but still OK. I also noticed a significant portion of 3 beef mains from the adjacent tables were sent to trash. I heard diners complain about the dish, but they did not raise it to the restaurant. I hope the restaurant got the message from the leftovers and the server feedback to the kitchen to take note. Dessert tarte tartin was a total disaster, seved luke warm; pastry was soggy, apple was over baked losing any apple texture to almost a sauce texture. I could compare the same dessert to another UK 1-star michellin star restaurant that this dessert should be made to order for each serving, piping hot and feshly made from the kitchen. A reheated slice for a lunch set was disappointing to end the meal. I managed to finish the dish anyway, but the diner on the adjacent table left the food to be taken by the server. Tea with petit fours were charged separately. Fairly basic. Would expect something nicer for French petit fours. After guests left after a meal, I did not see the server change the table cloth. Slightly suspicious about how often they changed the table cloth.

My wife and I attended the Joseph Janoueix Wine Dinner, where we sat on a table of around 14 people in the Gallery. The menu consisted of five courses plus coffee and petit fours. Each course was paired with a wine from one of the family's Chateau, all of which were on the right bank of the river, hence merlot dominated with cabinet franc. The vintages ranged from 2007 to 2018 and the food was well chosen to match the wines. With only reds to play with, even the barbecued monkfish with leeks, crosnes and bacon went well with the 2011 Pomerol Clos des Litanies. The Rhug Estate venison was sublime and well matched with another Pomerol, 2007 Chateau La Croix Toulifaut. Finally, the "dessert" was Epoisses Cheesecake paired with 2018 Chateau Haut Sarpe St Emilion Grand Cru Classe. The cheesecake was interesting to say the least, with a sweetness accompanied by the classic flavours of Epoisses, which one either loves or hates. I am in the former camp so my luck was in. Overall, an excellent experience, with an informative host, attentive staff and the excellent company of our fellow diners and oenophiles. One of the best wine dinners we have attended at La Chapelle.

Let's start with the bad, it's a formula place with staff scripted to say same things so do not feel treated like a person. Did appreciate the Taste of Winter set menu at £55 including bubble and canape and 4 courses. Felt like I was being messy as table cleaned after each couse, sure breadcrumbs from home made tasty bread meant 1 clean needed but thereafter not really needed, made me feel self conscious and not asked to do just done. Underwhelmed by chef's canapé did not feel this made chef shine. Once again enjoying truffle with dessert and this was a highlight, this time truffle creme brûlée and brie. Thought cold fruit with the hot venison main course just did not work at all and mushroom starter felt overworked and too salty, almost soy sauce salty. So although great deal poor service and execution. I am not even mentioning that I wanted the loo at the end of the meal but felt an obligation placed on me by staff member to pay first.

As other reviews state the staff are very friendly and attentive without being overbearing, I find at restaurants of these calibre staff interaction is over top to the point it's uncomfortable. This however was well done. While I cant speak for the full tasting menus/ others. My experience left me keen to come back and try.

Galvin la Chapelle does not disappoint. When you enter, you are welcomed by smart, confident staff and are immediately immersed in an understated professional environment. Once seated, the service team take over seamlessly, drinks orders taken, menus provided - concise explanations of the format and content given. Through the service we did not feel rushed, nor neglected at any point - glasses always refilled before empty, Giles and the team looked after us famously today! Most importantly, every dish was delicious - from amuse-bouche through to dessert and cheese. My tarte-tatin was simply stunning. It is over 15 years since we first ate here, and the restaurant has been consistently excellent every time we have been, and we will undoubtedly visit again!!

Huge disappointment for us. Nice location and professional service, but the food was not worthy. Compared to other restaurants in that price range and with that rating, Galvin la Chappelle couldn't even get close. There was no finesse in the dishes, everything was just a regular dish with improved arrangement and some truffle or so on top. The taste was ok, but I would expect that in any restaurant. We sadly can't recommend, although a lot of people seem to like it, so maybe it's just us.

My partner and I visited this wonderful restaurant for a 6.30 pm sitting. The venue is set in beautiful renovated church with high timber ceiling giving good acoustics and lovely decor. The staff were professional knowledgable and attentive, Food was amazing, my partner chose the crab Ravioli starter followed by the cod,both of which were sublime, I started with a mushroom based dish followed by venison that were cooked perfectly and everything was beautifully presented. We had lovely evening. The food was delicious and well presented and the staff very attentive and friendly without being too overbearing. We had a great table with plenty of space and a good view of the whole restaurant and it's soaring eaves. It was our 12 year anniversry and they prepared a special anniversary treat for the end of the meal with a lovely card wishing us a happy anniverary. We would happily return for another visit.

We had a lovely lunch on a weekday from the set 3 course menu. This was a treat given by our son and his wife. This was our first time eating at a Michelin star restaurant. Thanks to Giles who served us and the rest of the team for a great experience.

When we arrived for our booking, my partner felt unwell so we decided to try cancel and reschedule for another date, expecting to pay a cancellation fee. All the staff were really helpful and were quick to accommodate this, allowing us to cancel without fee despite having been sat already. Was greatly appreciated and are now looking forward to coming another time

All in all, unfortunately a disappointment. I expected more. The quality of the food was certainly very good, but there was not enough inspiration and creativity on the plate. Surprising flavors and consistencies on the plate? Unfortunately none. You can expect good craftsmanship and that's what you get. But for one star and the price I expect more than good craftsmanship. The wine selection wasn't right. The wines were just right, but again better average, nothing exceptional. The service was the highlight. Very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately it was also quite cold, hence the deductions for the ambience. My conclusion: Unfortunately not again for the price quoted.

Food was okay, expected a lot more as I’ve eaten in other Michelin star restaurants that were far better. The 3 course and fizz voucher is a con, we didn’t receive the drink and all of the best dishes are either £15 or £25 extra. Ended up paying around £210 for a very average meal.

We went for the 5 course tasting menu as a birthday celebration. The tasting menus even cater for fussy vegans like my friend. The food was excellent but what really stood out for us was the phenomenal service. The service was delivered in such a personable manner with good humour. Would absolutely come back again!

My wife treated me to a lovely meal here on Friday. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu and I really could not fault it. Each course was presented perfectly and delicious. The servers were all great and hats off to one who noted my wife uses her cutlery the other way round ( i forgot his nsme ) Attention to detail. That’s only ever happened once before in The Fat Duck. By the time the 7th course arrived we were pretty full up but we had a go. The setting of the restaurant was in an old school and it looked lovely. Thank you to all team at Galvin La Chappele for making our evening perfect in everyway.

had the taster menu. I really think the portions on each plate were too small, although they were delicious. red mullet was so delicious. Please consider the portion sizes and it would be 5 stars for food. From looking around the a la carte menu seemed to have good portions. otherwise a lovely afternoon with pleasant and knowledgeable staff, nice wine and a charming venue.

Galvin is a stalwart of French cooking in London, and offers one of the best vfm set menu experiences. I went to try the Taste Of Summer menu. We started with a gazpacho, followed by sauteed squid, and a deconstructed cassoulet for the main course, with dessert courses coming after. I liked all the courses with the cassoulet and the lemon tart being the highlights, and the squid being the lowlight. However, I did feel that the portions could have been a little bigger. Great selection of wines, and expert sommeliers to guide selection improved the dining experience . The dining room itself is monumental and worth a glance on its own.

Absolutely delicious! Just had the BEST lunch for a family birthday. I'm Dairy & Gluten Free and was able to have the 7 course Gourmand menu, with obvious modifications, but NO fuss. It was wonderful to feel 'normal' and not to have to work my way through an allergens list. The GF bread was the best I've ever tasted! Thank you to Giles and everyone at Galvin la Chappelle who looked after us beautifully and made us feel so welcome and special. Beautiful restaurant, good food, but amazing service. The shining star was the treatment of our children and my guests. The service was better than my last visit to Per Se. The children's offering was sophisticated in perpetration but accessible to younger palettes. My children can handle tasting menus just fine but having a children's meal available was such a nice touch. The manager noticed one of the dishes wasn't finished and inquired. Our guest was older and having a bit of trouble chewing. They were graciously offered a cheese plate which they loved. I wasn't wowed by a fish dish we had and there was a bit too much popcorn and coco on the foie gras but it was tasty all the same. The visit left a lasting positive impression and we still speak about it often which I can't say the same about other higher rated establishments we've been to. Nothing makes memories more than the treatment you receive and Galvin La Chapelle really delivered on our visit. Wonderful experience and if you're in the area I highly recommend a visit. It wasn't perfection but it was a perfect afternoon for our family. I can't wait to return next Summer.

Giles has been excellent and attentive to us from the start. Gave us a run down of what to expect and the history of the place, really made us feel special. We were unsure what to expect when we book this, but have not regretted at all. The Crab Raviolo was divine. The Guinea Fowl excellent. Great lunch and service. Leon was brilliant as well, he carried himself so well when introducing the dishes.

While the service was attentive, multiple waiters made rude comments that rubbed us the wrong way. We didn’t order a lot because we had an unexpected event to attend after where we would be eating as well. When we ate our appetizers and enjoyed them, a waiter commented on how quickly we ate and stated we must be hungry. When we left behind some food in our main course which was already light (it honestly wasn’t the best tasting), a different waiter commented on how we didn’t order enough, which didn’t even make sense since we didn’t finish the dishes. I find it in extremely bad taste for anyone to comment on someone’s eating habits, especially in a judgmental way as they did. Overall, we would definitely not come back and did not enjoy our time.

Food seemed to be precooked from the previous day like every single high end restaurant in London, when it came to my table it was tasteless so I had to wash it with some water as it felt awful. Service was terrible as well with waiters ignoring our table when we were calling for them constantly. Then we heard a manager abusing one of the members of staff in the back area that could be LOUDLY heard across the hall. We went on the middle of the week and the place was not busy at all. Definetly not worth the price of the experience to have such an embarrasing display. At least we liked the hanging chandelier, very classy.

We had an birthday party here today. Lumi and Mark was wonderful, friendly and attentive. The food came out hot and delicious. The drinks came quickly and there was not one single mistake which was an amazing feat as there was 16 of us! We were allowed to bring decorations (as long as it leaves no marks) ourselves hence the table sparkles, balloons and Easter Carrot favours 😁Thank you Galvin team we had a wonderful time!

We had such a lovely time at Bistroteque! The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The wild garlic butter was amazing, and the cheese soufflé was super tasty. Massive shoutout to the hibiscus, rhubarb, and mango sorbet—it was next level. So fresh and packed with surprising flavour. We were looked after by Lou and she was super nice and friendly. Thank you so much guys, we will be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Came across this place accidentally and it was one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a long time, the food was absolutely incredible! ( highly recommend the mussels, steak and crème brûlée), you could tell that everything was homemade with so much love and passion. Really beautiful spot, perfect for a quiet and cosy date night. Will definitely come again ♥️
