This restaurant is OK but over-expensive for what it is and where it is, which is not a salubrious area. The price of its wine list was excessive especially for a range of obscure wines. 375ml of Soave cost an absurd £38.50. A small glass of sherry cost an even more absurd £22. Of course, one does not make a fuss after one has eaten, but I was appalled to get a 15% service charge, which is too much especially as the service was not what it might have been. I made clear that I wanted to pour the wine myself because I like to know how much I am drinking, but every passing water kept topping up half full glasses. This was both poor service and rather irritating.

8 of us dined on the mezzanine area here 24/4. Food very good indeed and the restaurant itself has real character. What always makes a difference to any rating for me is service. Here, all the staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our waitress, in particular though, was amazing. She served all eight of us for the whole evening on her own. 4 hours of work, from serving drinks on arrival through the three courses we enjoyed. Did not catch her name and unfortunately did not get the opportunity to thank her on behalf of the group but she worked very hard to make our evening an exceptional one. Superb.

We’ve been to La Chapelle a number of times over the years, it is a special place for us. However, our last visit was just not as good as we had previously experienced. These are small details, but if you’re a Michelin starred restaurant I think the details matter. We started with a bottle of champagne in the Galvin bistro adjoining the restaurant. It was my friend’s birthday and the waiter in the bistro offered to tell the restaurant to do a birthday message with dessert. So far, so Galvin. However, when we got up to walk through to the restaurant for our reservation, a very officious staff member stopped us and asked where we were going. She very reluctantly ‘escorted’ us to the main restaurant (literally just the other side of the room), making us feel like an inconvenience. At one point a waiter was about to come out from behind the bar and he stopped to let my friend and I pass with our husbands, but the staff member ordered him out in front of my friend and me, saying ‘drinks first’, so my friend and I had to stop and wait while he put drinks down for guests on the bar in the narrow space between restaurants, which was odd. When we got to our table we were given the wine list but not offered water or asked if we’d like an aperitif, and then left alone for a good 10 minutes until one of us asked if we could see some food menus. Our food was mainly the usual Galvin standard although my friend’s lamb was mostly fat and therefore only a tiny piece of meat. My rabbit was great, although a small grey pot of sauce was placed in front of it with no explanation - I had to ask what it was and whether I should add it to the plate or eat if separately. I know these are tiny details but the details matter at this level of restaurant (and this price!). Desserts came with no birthday message for my friend which was disappointing. After ordering coffees a senior waiting staff member asked us how our meal had been and we shared some of the feedback, including the fact we were disappointed not to have had the birthday message. We were assured it was on its way ‘with petit fours’ but by that time we were halfway through our coffees (with no petit fours). Eventually we did get them, and the birthday candle, but it all seemed like an afterthought, and quite perfunctory. All in all, it was ok but not the service we had come to expect and were so looking forward to, which was a shame. The restaurant is not cheap, and we are aware how lucky we are to be able to save up and go, so to be let down by lacklustre service was disappointing. Maybe we just had an off day.

Short walk from Liverpool Street tube stop. Beautiful interior with high ceiling in a church like atmosphere. Lovely history note about the building on the first page of the food menu. Tables for two, too close together and touching distance. Tables for 4 more suitable, generally table Placement cramped and to Close as one has to dodge tables as walking from entrance to table and to toilet. Starters: Foie gras beautiful dish - not too fatty, well balanced and present beautifully. Not overly filling either. The asparagus- beautifully done with ox tongue cubes- perfectly cooked , well balanced sauce. Mains Cod was over salted with a nice quinoa green sauce. The rabbit procetta was beautiful presented with a nice sauce with rabbit heart and asparagus. The ragu of rabbit with mushrooms was absolutely beautiful with grey foam. Deserts are disappointing as very average: Rum baba rather different take with chilli in it and strawberry- not the best fit but definitely interesting The La Chapelle Rocher was average as did not taste of pistachio and The Gianjula was too subtle - didn’t have a distinctive hazelnut taste. Disappointed by both deserts. Service was good. The red wine which was a carafe of the barbera was excellent and well priced.

Our regular, “old, dear and loyal friends” lunch brought us to Galvin La Chapelle Bistrot in Spitalfields. We didn’t know what to expect, but were drawn by a shared love of French cuisine. From start to finish, our lunch was long, lazy, funny and the perfect antidote to life’s “nonsense” going on around us. The bistrot's quality was superb, the atmosphere spot on and the service was faultless, with a bit of added conversational and engagement sparkle from Luminita, who knew just what we wanted, just like an old and loyal friend does. Our get-together lunch trail will bring us back very soon, I’m sure.

Had an amazing time at my first ever London Michelin starred restaurant meal. Atmosphere and service are top class in this beautiful renovated church. Had the seven course taster menu as a gift and we then got a reasonably priced bottle of champagne to share at £75. The food is small portions but in the end after all courses was sufficient. Very tasty as you would expect. The price after drinks, service etc was eye watering. A great experience but not one I can afford again…

What a shame to have this restaurant change this badly! No more plans to go back.

I was gifted a voucher for the vegan seven course menu with a glass of wine and had the best time. The food was delicious, really flavourful. Firstly, we were offered complimentary canapes, which had a wonderful parsnip puree that was very tasty. These were followed by warm bread and olive oil, which was also complimentary. The seven course menu consisted of light, small dishes and by the end of it, we were pleasantly full and not uncomfortably so. The courgette flower, green tomato chutney and Daiquiri courses were particular favourites. The staff were so polite, the service was second to none and the restaurant itself was lovely. What was also nice, was that we did not feel rushed at any stage and were able to stay as long as we liked, even after we'd finished eating. There was also no pressure to pay for any additional extras and no issue with our just drinking water after our glass of wine, which was included in the voucher. A service charge of 14.5% was added to the bill, which we were happy to pay as we'd had such a lovely time. I would absolutely recommend for anybody thinking of visiting.

Very disappointing. We had the 7 course tasting menu. With the exception of the Cornish Red Mullet dish which was a simply presented filet with a delicious sauce, the remaining dishes were confused and poorly presented. Most dishes consisted of a small mound of mixed ingredients, delivering a confused and largely forgettable taste. Presentation was boring and predictable. At £850 for a meal for 4 (incl c.£200 for 2 bottles of wine), its not an experience I will rush to repeat.

I found the waiters description of the food to be so pretentious that I really had a hard time understanding exactly what the food would be like. The food was of a poor quality either no taste or overly flavoured with unpleasant textures. The duck I had was tough and very hard to cut. We had been given a 3 course gift voucher from a relative. We ask to pay £40 to upgrade to the 4 course set menu. This was refused. So we ended up paying £66 on top of our gift vouchers. Which included £5 for a glass of still water and £20 service charge. The rest consisted of 2 small glasses of wine and 2 coffees. We got the impression that customers with gift vouchers were somehow second class, even though the amount paid was the full price of the set menu. Also, that they were sold with intention of getting dinners to spend as much as possible on extras. I am sure the relative who bought the gift would be upset if she realised what had happened. When the staff moved away from pretentious scripts about the food and were just themselves they were nice and the service was good. Also the building itself was nice

We visited Galvin this week and we were blown away not only by the food, but the ambience and the staff. We had a seven course tasting menu which was superlative in certain courses and overall excellent; the flavour combinations and the presentation were of the finest quality. In comparison to some of their peers we have eaten in we would put Galvin in the upper echelon without question. We were seated at the perfect table for a quiet dinner for two, but not out of the way or ignored by staff. Indeed, we had excellent service from Arnaud, stepping in as a sommelier and guiding us to some very interesting wine choices, given his more elevated position he made us feel we were his focus every time he came to the table, very impressive. The particular attention paid by the section manager, superb, and a truly excellent young waitress, who we understood was on a development curve that evening was a perfect balance of friendly engagement and attention to detail. I must highlight her service, I am so sorry that I can't remember her name, but she was so engaging, could answer all of our questions and was simply lovely for someone early in a career in such a restaurant. Our experience from booking with a small hiccup, trying to provide our card details to secure the reservation, through to paying the bill could not have been better. A sense of caring and valuing you as an individual customer shone through and we will certainly be returning when we are next able to visit that area of London.  Reply  Forward

I suggested to a friend that we eat at Galvin La Chapelle as the food is generally great, wine list impressive and service wonderful. Sadly, only two out of three happened this time. I was running a few minutes late and didn't know if my friend had booked the bistro or the restaurant. I popped my head in the bistro and saw my friend wasn't there so mentioned to the manager that he wasn't there and I would pop through the connecting 1 metre corridor between the bistro and restaurant to find him. Her reaction was one of disgust and told me under no circumstances could I walk through. I told her that we had a booking and that my friend was just 1 metre away. She told me she didn't know who I was and that I would have to exit the bistro, walk outside and around the front entrance of the building, back through the main entrance, through the restautant to the spot 1 metre away then look for my friend that way. I look slightly perplexed (made worse by the fact that that he was sat 1 metre away with his back to the bistro wall) and followed the slightly ridiculous instructions. The meal itself was lovely. We had the tasting menu and a really great bordeaux. The manager of the restaurant was extremely apologetic when he heard and was surprised that the bistro manager hadn't just popped through the 1 metre corridor to check herself. Anyway, unlikely I'll be suggesting here again for meetings or friends lunches despite having spent several thousands of pounds here over the years. Very short sighted customer service.

One of the great restaurant spaces in London, and my wife's absolutely favourite restaurant. The room is stunning, a beautiful conversion. The food is brilliant. Extensive wine list which obviously gets very pricey at the high end, but on my last visit, still had a very nice wine at £21 - very reasonable for a Michelin starred restaurant. You can go A La Carte and spend quite a lot of money, or you enjoy this fabulous restaurant for quite reasonable prices by: a) Booking the restricted set menu. Not so much choice, but the food is just as good and mostly a la carte selections. Generally available for lunch, but often also available in the evenings - look out for offers of the set menu plus a glass of champagne - brilliant value. b) Booking for Sunday lunch - absolutely superb, and amazing value If, like us, you are hooked, then you can join their 'frequent eater' scheme by getting a Galvin card and get points for your spend at all Galvin restaurants. There's 4 or 5 in London, 2 in Edinburgh plus 1 in Kent, I think, but this may be out of date by the time you read this. We always go there when we go to London. Update: better than ever, the fillet Rossini was wonderful. Update: as good as ever.

What is the most disappointing was despite the fact that my husband informed them in advance, they didn’t even write “happy anniversary” on our dessert whereas the table next to us had a birthday and they got a special dessert with candle as well. The front staff greeted and congratulated us when we walked in so we know for sure they didn’t “forget” it. I never wrote any bad reviews as a restaurant owner myself but we have emailed the restaurant about the food’s problem right after we got home but in their reply they completely ignored the fact that we both had stomach cramps and diarrhoea immediately after we ate and didn’t even go away to investigate or compensate us. For my birthday I was gifted the Three Course MICHELIN Starred Set Menu with Bubbles for Two at Galvin La Chapelle. A special occasion turned out to be a terrible experience. When we arrived we were sectioned to a corner where all voucher people ate. They sat us down and then said they will bring bubbles on arrival as part of the voucher. We waited and waited watching other people who came after us receive this. We politely requested for ours, waited another 20mins to receive it. The service was chaotic and made us feel on edge the whole time. I could see them bickering in the background. We ordered our wine, with some difficulty with the 'sommelier' bring over differing bottles than the one ordered. We finally got our bottle after we had finished our starters.. So hardly had any time to savour the taste of it. Normally at a restaurant of this price point, the food would have been explained to you - where it's sourced, what's it served with etc. This was not the case at Galvin. The food was just places down in front of us. To make matters worse, the mains were lukewarm at best. I've never written a review but this experience compelled me to. A generous gift ended up being a waste of money. To our shock we also had to pay 14.5% service on top of the voucher. For service of this quality, we should have asked to have it taken off but this wasn't an option as the waiter rushed over to receive our payment before we could even fathom the receipt. All and all this was pretty disappointing, and we don't think it was worth the price or 'reputation'.

Beautiful restaurant with ambience. A very old school hall, apparently. Adorned with beautiful lighting and NO load music. Perfect. Service was polite, attentive and very considerate towards a number of food allergies that were presented on arrival. Nothing was an issue and all dishes could be adapted successfully. Great variety, and the best meal out in a long time.

Fine dining is not something I'm particularly accustomed to but I've been lucky enough to eat at Galvin La Chapelle twice now. Both experiences have been a real treat. The building is stunning and steeped in history. The staff are professional, friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. I was advised, by a member of our group who had dined here before, to not focus too much on individual ingredients that I might tend to avoid (due to not liking them) and trust that everything on the menu tastes great. They were not wrong. The depth and flavour of all of the dishes was so stimulating. An absolute treat to dine here and an experience to remember.

We got the 7 course tasting menu, was a gift from my boyfriend - my first time trying a Michelin star restaurant and I had the best experience. Everything on the menu was lovely but the red mullet was just out of the world - I checked with the waiter and apparently clams, wine and nori oil had gone into the sauce. Boyfriend liked the duck the most. We had tea and coffee afterwards, it came with small bites, for 7£ each it was very worth it. Ambience was also lovely, it felt cosy and thoughtful without being overtly swanky. Great service as well. 10/10 would definitely visit again.

Our experience at Galvin la Chapelle, a distinguished one-star Michelin restaurant, was nothing short of exceptional. Choosing the 5-course menu proved to be a delightful journey through well-crafted dishes that showcased the chef's expertise. The picturesque setting of the restaurant added a touch of magic to our dining experience, making it memorable. The service at Galvin la Chapelle was truly outstanding—attentive, warm, and embodying a level of hospitality that elevated the entire evening. Every course, except for the dessert, which leaned a bit too heavily on chocolate for our taste, was a culinary masterpiece. We wholeheartedly recommend Galvin la Chapelle. The price-to-performance ratio is excellent, and we look forward to returning for another remarkable dining experience.

Good but not great. Why? Purely on the monkfish which was both tasteless and a little bit overcooked to the point it felt rubbery. Staff and service was amazing though and it was a real treat to dine here. Would I go back? Maybe not no.

In a word it was okay. Nothing special and overall we came away underwhelmed. Poor drinks selection in respect of Gin and Bourbon and only citrus garnish. Not acceptable for a venue such as this. "Signature" tarte tatin was okay. It didn't wow. Starters were v.good in particular the crab raviolo The mains were again okay. They didn't wow and given expectations they disappointed. Staff were pleasant and attentive but didn't know their cheese selections. Overall enjoyed evening, didn't come away raving and felt slight disappointed when we consider vs other venues visited and quite poor value for money. Deapitw the stunning venue... Wouldn't return

Had a business lunch here this week. I have not been for a few years but nothing has changed in terms of quality - which is great. The service is top notch with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are attentive without being overbearing. Food was amazing - we chose from the set lunch menu which is good value. Will definitely go back as soon as I can.

An excellent business lunch for four . Service and ambiance as wonderful as ever as is the menu wine list. We had various starters , mine was a piece salmon , not tiny slivers, which was perfect .We all had pheasant for our mains ,again perfectly cooked and full of flavour. It really is one of my favourite restaurants in the City and I am happy to return time and again knowing the food, service and wines will be consistently good.

As regular visitors to the Galvin next to where we live (in the Kimpton Hotel), we were looking forward to dining here, given the excellent reviews, and strong rating. The restaurant itself is lovely, the service was excellent and we were very well taken care of by the sommelier and a couple of wait-staff. Two aspects of the experience were disappointing, and would probably mean we would not return: 1.) I ordered the Beef Fillet Rossini, which didn't seem to come with any vegetables. I asked if I could order a side of vegetables, to be told that the only available additional sides were either mushrooms or potatoes. Two of the other dishes on the menu were listed as coming with Cavolo Nero, so I asked if I could have a side of that, to be told no. I cannot believe that the kitchen does not contain any vegetables, to be able to provide a side portion of veg. I instead said I would have the mushrooms as a side, which came in at a strong £11.50. 2.) My partner also ordered the Beef Fillet, she was told "the chef advises that this is served medium/rare", she asked for it to be cooked medium. What was delivered was more like well done (possibly medium/well at a push), but was probably the most cooked I have ever seen a fillet steak in a restaurant. I find it hard to believe that a Michelin accredited chef is unable to cook a steak to a desired level, so this seemed bizarre. The waiter obviously said that they could take it away and provide a new one but, given I was half-way through eating, this would have ruined the enjoyment of our experience as we would have then eaten separately. Due to the disappointment of the main course, we opted to forego dessert and go elsewhere for a nightcap. To rectify the above, the waiter offered that the first round of drinks were removed from the bill, though only 1 drink was removed when I checked the bill later on at home (I am not sure if this was intentional or not). My beef was delicious and, as I said above, the service was exemplary - the issues we had were no fault of any member of staff we were served by. I think perhaps they prefer guests to order the tasting menu, rather than a la carte.

I know you asking why 3 star then 5 star for everyrhing ...It was all as expected but they had an issue in the kitchen . The way they dealt with it service wise and the food we had was excellent but 45min for à main is too long no matter how well you manage the situation on the day ... I don't know what happened i couldn't say .. other than the wait there was no sign of what was happening . We started lunch at 12.15 and finished at 3.15 .. I would return it is unlikely this would reoccur . And they were smooth about it . I wanted to recognise that

We were treated like royalty by all of the staff and were extremely impressed by the ambience of the restaurant! The waiting staff were second to none and it was a pleasure to be served our food and told exactly what was on the plate. The only two criticisms' were that it was very costly, and the portions were extremely small for the price!

Absolutely loved Galvin La Chapelle! I accidentally went to the bistro restaurant and the owner was kind enough to walk me to the correct entrance for La Chapelle. From the get go everyone was warm and welcoming. The food was amazing from start to end, if i could give it more than 5 stars I would, service was impeccable and attentive. Considering they had a private function going on upstairs, everything was running smoothly and we felt catered to regardless. The spicy margaritas was our go to drink that evening, so huge shoutout to our bartender. Definitely coming back again. Thank you for an amazing birthday!

We came here for our anniversary meal. The waiter, atmosphere and service were amazing. We also enjoyed the food. We could talk and the restaurant wasn’t too noisy or too quiet. The amuse-bouche was a sweet gesture but the cracker was soaked with the parsnip puree on top and cracked all over my cutlery (but the seaweed powder had good flavour). The gnocchi was good, the sauces were nice but it didn’t knock me off my socks. Two gnocchis had only a floury taste whereas the other two had a very pungent cheese flavour. The pumpkin risotto was sweet and a very unusual flavour combination with the sour camembert sauce. The truffle added a beautiful aesthetic to the plate albeit not much, if any flavour to the dish. I personally do not think it warranted £55 (especially considering that the rice in some parts was too al dente). We really appreciate that our waiter had explained this to us before ordering our meal and so we expected our food to be on the sweeter side. The Christmas pudding was fabulous. The attentiveness of the waiter and the extra anniversary chocolate and delight they gave was superb. We are very appreciate of this. The coffee was also very tasty. The creme brûlée was salty and not to our taste but if you prefer savoury desserts, then this might be for you. The bread was ok. The salted butter was delicious. The attentiveness of the waiters was spectacular - they warned us that their homemade butter had anchovies and placed it next to my partner and away from my side of the table. We were very impressed by this. The cocktails and sparkling water were both lovely. I would have preferred the table crumbs being cleaned more often as I found myself cleaning them off the table in between but our main waiter did attend to our table and clean the crumbs after our mains which was a lovely touch. Although we did not request them to or complain about the creme brûlée, the lovely waiter as a kind gesture removed it from our bill since we did not enjoy our dish which was beautiful attentiveness and he went above and beyond our expectations. Overall, I would definitely recommend to experience dining here at least once! We will definitely be back in the future (if not for mains then for desserts and coffee). It is important to note that I did try one bite of my partners beef and it was divine. Maybe next time I will go for the beef option! Thank you to the chefs, waiters and all the lovely staff for our wonderful experience :)

An amazing and delicious culinary experience. The restaurant is stunning and the service is as good as it can get. They accommodated to all of our dietary requirements and went above and beyond. The Gnocchi to start was well balanced, hints of sweet and savoury flavours, great acidity and a perfect crunch. The Beef Fillet Rossini was cooked to perfection, the oyster emulsion elevated the dish and the gratin was just perfect. I opted for the Truffle Creme Brûlée for dessert, however it wasn’t to my taste as it was too savoury. However the consistency of the custard, and the caramel crunch was textbook. Kindly without request they removed the creme brûlée from the bill as the staff noticed that I didn’t finish my dessert. Overall it was a true moment to remember from the drinks to the amuse-bouche, the food and whole experience was faultless.

We had a Buyagift voucher for a "traditional Sunday roast" - I am attaching a photo of the menu, from which you will see there was nothing "traditional" about it at all. The food was not to our taste, quite small in portion size and, apart from the potatoes, my main course was cold (my husband's, and that of the couple of the next table, was ;uke warm). As the food was doing nothing for me, I didn't send it back, although I did mention it to the member of staff who enquired if there was a problem when removing my plate. As a plus, all the staff were extremely charming. The wines are very expensive. We paid £62 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio and that was one of the cheapest wines in the list. The chapel is beautiful, but, paying that sort of money, I do expect good food and of an acceptable temperature, so was very disappointed and, sadly, we won't be going back.
