Great bakes and good for a relaxing coffee on a Saturday. The staff are very friendly with a cheerful attitude and a smile on their face

I do like the chicken burger, sausage roll, and their coffee. The branch is always busy during the weekends.

Terrible Service; when you ask for a lid on your takeaway coffee and the server goes into a meltdown to give you a lid which is behind them. Happens every time.

I usually love popping into Gail’s on my lunch break, but unfortunately I had a very unfriendly experience with one of the girl members of staff who was very dismissive. She cut me off before I finished my sentence and came across very uninterested. Me and my work colleague felt very put off coming back after this which is a shame because Gail’s is a fantastic bakery but they need to invest in better training.

Coffee tasteless and barely warm but still £4 for a flat white .

the eggs were overcooked, this needs to be monitored, 1 min & pan off heat/ out of oven surely....the salmon was of good quality however unbelievably basic plating, a drizzle of aoili, a sliver of avo, sprig of dill...sans pepper/salt i beg you...?!? the sourdough fingers were brittle, how do you dip these into solid yolks ahem:) ty for reaching out in response to my review team gail.

Bakery which also offers puff pastries, quiches and sandwiches. The seeded bread is delicious, as well as the sausage roll and the quiches. Pastries and cakes are less good.

Edit - AVOID. Service has gone downhill since lockdown and as of March 2024 remains the same. It’s probably the worst bakery in the whole of Northcote Road. Coffee is ok but croissant was tasteless, worse than Pret. I am also not clear where the oil tins with Chinese letters left outside at the end of the day are coming from. Perhaps focus is on profit and as far as quality and customer service are concerned Gails is no longer interested.

Great breads but the pastries are disappointing. Hit and miss coffee and hit and miss service. Once I was served by a girl with long hair and when she went to get my pastry her hair went all over the pastries. I used to love this store ten years ago when it was quite new and now it is a chain they have lost personality. Only go for bread now.

Team member, hope? was very helpful and attentive. Great customer service from the young lady. Will be returning here!

Someone needs to look at the cleanliness of this place. The bathroom is revolting: tiles, floor, toilet seat… all need deep cleaning.

Guy working here is unnecessarily rude

Walked in 8:15am and was met with rude staff. The guy stocking the croissants woke up on the wrong side of the bed. We walked right out.

Gail’s used to be better , unfortunately it has lost its spark. It’s overcrowded, full of screaming toddlers with push chairs in the way. The place itself looks tired with its canteen like appearance, unnecessarily loud music on the speakers. The staff comes and goes, there is no personal touch. Bread is still good, but coffee not. Some of the pastries are worth trying but I have tasted better croissants and pan au raisins.

I swear by Gail's. Love the rewards program. love their bake goods. This Gail's has lovely staff. Why must they blast music? Music that is wrongly EQ'd. Is that you don't want laptop / office people there? Maybe put up sign vs playing this extremely loud music, it is to me at least. The staff seems to have cohesion and team work and that's pleasant to be around.

terrible service. just asked for half syrup in our Chai Latte becuase otherwise its way too sweet to drink (very basic request that other coffee shops always honour). The response was "we only do it one way". unacceptable on such a basic request, and did not even say "sorry not allowed to do it".

Stressed panicked serversa first sight entering. No greetings no smiles. Huge queue waiting for coffee. 8 person behind the till overcrowded has no idea whats going on. Wanted to sit in noone was asking what we want or no menu offered. Tables were dirty. Straight left. Therevare plenty of cafes around where we get welcomed and served. Shame.

Amazing fresh baked goods selection. Cinnamon bun was gorgeous thoroughly enjoyed. The coffee was lovely too with a nice range available.

The first time I was Dissatisfied with the cappuccino, not to my liking 😒

I always thought Gails was dog friendly, as I have been before with my dog (and sat outside) and always see dogs around. However, it seems they do not allow dogs inside - although there are no signs stating this. It was very busy, and I queued up for a while (clearly with my dog) to get my food. I then went and sat down inside. A staff member then marched up to me and abruptly told me I needed to leave because no dogs were allowed inside. She said I could sit outside (it was bucketing with rain....). I would have appreciated being told this information before I sat down (to save the embarrassment of being marched out in front of other customers) or indeed before I paid for everything, as I obviously wasn't going to sit outside in the pouring rain. Above all, I really didn't appreciate the horrible tone of the woman who spoke to me. There's just no need for it, and I would have said something had i not been so shocked/embarrassed. Do better Gails! I will be visiting other coffee shops on Northcote Road from now on.

Overall quality of savouries and breads great but service is sketchy at best! You can wait ages to get served despite the 5/7 staff behind the desk! Then you get an attitude without a welcome ! It’s a shame

Cakes and cookies at their best! Nice central location, close to the town center. Very attractive shop decoration and furniture. Wide selection of breads, cakes, cookies. Very good quality coffee served by very friendly staff. And... the toilets were immaculate. If you are in the area, give It a try 😉

Excellent coffee & pastry spot with free Babbachino for the kiddies

Went to Gails yesterday and had a delicious seeded bagel with tomato and pesto and a really good size pot of tea. The service was lovely. I would highly recommend and for a special treat finish off with a cinnamon roll. Amazing

I like GAIL’s but the staff at this shop has become extremely unfriendly making the whole experience very unpleasant. Last time I can I ordered a coffee with my breakfast and I they forgot about it. When I told them nobody apologised and I ordered another one with everyone making me feel like I was the one at fault. It is everything but commercial. Today I’m going for a coffee and I know they have move to an app for the loyalty card but I’ve been told in another shop I can finish my card and move to an app. Not here. They just refused to acknowledge all the coffees I bought (my card is nearly finished). No help, just a (bad) attitude. Train your staff to do better! Be better humans!

Nice coffee and food however it gets too busy and tables aren’t wiped but the staff are nice and welcoming.

Very rude stuff, I'm shocked of the way she was talking to me, the man working with her was trying to inform her that I already paid, I need just to pay for a salmon Croissant but she kept checking my order bags and didn't even answer me. Very rude, and I didn't expect that. I love Gail's bakery, but I'll look for an alternative.

There’s a reason why someone orders decaf. Honour the request or refuse it.

Overpriced and surprisingly for London not dog friendly despite having a dog water bowl outside. I’d argue this is slight false advertising. I visited the other day and I was asked to leave with my very well behaved dog who was asleep under the table when I sat at the back in the corner with a friend over coffee. As other reviews have mentioned staff were unfriendly. Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend

Really rude staff. Some customer service training wouldn’t go amiss. I do love the products but recent experiences are driving me to competitors.

Incredibly rude service. Would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to be treated awfully and as if you’re inconveniencing their staff.

Slow and indifferent service, and they don't heat up any food. Took 15 minutes for a coffee and scone to arrive despite the place being empty. Server looked very annoyed when I asked for jam and cream.

Gail's is always a great place for a coffee and cake but most importantly the team are fantastic. In particular AJ the team leader, William and Carla are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, in particular to my 2.5 year old son who comes in for his daily babychino. A brilliant customer experience.

The coffee and sourdough toast were spectacular!!! Everything there invites to go back!

We sometimes like to get the “DANISH SPELT SOURDOUGH” which is delicious and highly recommend as a nice treat for the weekend but I don’t love the atmosphere in here; we’re always in and out.

The pastries were so stale they were inedible; the manager (young woman) told me nobody else had complained so the problem must be with me. I asked her to try one for herself - she was so rude/passive-aggressive I just asked for a refund and left. Coffees were also cold. Tried another cafe and they said the manager here is notoriously rude. Will not go back. Lots of nice cafes nearby, avoid this one.

Overpriced but that's ok, it's a nice treat. Food is 4/5. What is annoying is the lack of wheelchair/disabled or pram access (and the staff don't help!). Update: Thankyou for the response below. I have seen a woman leave her disabled child outside whilst she pops inside. It was sad to see and I have struggled with access too. So thank you for addressing. Reassuring.

I popped in here for some baked treats to have over the Christmas period. I picked up a scone, honey cake and snickerdoodle cookie. The scone and mini cake were okay but the cookie had an awful taste to it. My brother always tells me that Gail’s is only good for bread, so I will listen to him in future.

Thanks to the super friendly and smiley staff, they made my day today. I also found my Mum's 2 favourite jams in one jar - raspberry and rose! Such an amazing combination. Highly recommended place 🌟

Incredible Mocha, and the bread on its own is delicious. Cute place to have a coffee and sit for a while

1.) Cleanliness. The customer toilet was a disgrace; our mugs were filthy (we had to ask for clean ones) and my coffee was obviously just poured into a different mug rather than made fresh 2.) Attention to detail. My baked eggs arrived without toast and my bottled water arrived without a glass. My side order of avocado was hard and inedible. My toast when it arrived was barely toasted. 3.) Customer service. When I asked for my toast; I was told “no it does not come with toast.” I questioned this and was told again that it didn’t come with toast but they’d make me some, so I checked the menu which clearly stated “with buttered toasted soldiers.” Overall I’m disappointed and won’t return. The new Vegsn cafe nearby was lovely and I’d recommend that even if you’re not vegan as it was spotless/friendly and clean with delicious food. Sorry Gail’s, you need to up your game.

Hit and miss really. On a god day you get good service and the bread/ croissants/ cinnamon buns (usually what I buy here) are good. On other days not so good. You will usually have a queue especially during the mornings on weekends. Otherwise, not a bad place.

Great food and large selection, I always like Gail’s Bakery in London as I come from a bakery family. I had a soup with bread, 1 type not just a tomato soup to say you have soup on the menu but homemade chef research look like. The only negative point is the seating area inside that actually look lovely and cosy but close to open kitchen, if you go there around 2pm when staff is packing up and using Hoover that become annoying, feels like no consideration for customer inside, they just do what they have to do and speak loud between them. So a shame really to forget customer experience.

Only had their coffee. So not a rating in their baked goods, but cannot say I was impressed. Lukewarm milk with a hint of coffee for an astounding 2.70 pounds for what must have been a 2sips of a latte at best. Would not go near again for their coffee.

A member of staff was very rude and was trying to belittle me. She kept saying anything else several times without waiting for me to answer. When I said we would like to eat in quickly said there are no tables “eat outside “ not would you like to eat outside when I was taken back she repeated sit outside there are no tables available. I confronted her about her rudeness and said is there a separate queue for coloured people. She didn’t apologise but said no We are not racist but actually it was just her. I waited to see if she treated anybody else like me but she didn’t

The bread is always too burnt for my taste, coffee is average. Good cakes though.

Bakery is serving delicious food. The seating area inside looks pretty dull (more like a canteen) but there is some space to eat outside.. The staff is not very friendly.

Lots of space for social distance queuing, good selection of brioche and fabulous San Francisco sour dough, worth the price!

Visted GAIL's with my sister earlier today for a quick drink and snack. Whilst the drinks and food were fine, the customer service was really disappointing. We were sat at the back of the restaurant which was stiffling hot and attempted to open the door to let some fresh air in. The lady at the counter then shouted at us to shut it from the front of the restaurant and then after we had shut it came over and opened and shut it again in front of us. She told us it couldn't be open due to the noise for the neighbours (which is fair enough), but her tone was unecessarily aggressive. As we were leaving the restaurant she shouted at us for leaving our drink bottles and plate on the table. We didn't appreciate that we needed to clear these away and whilst this is perfectly acceptable to request of customers, again her tone was pretty aggressive and rude.

Extremely noisy - full of parents taking their kids there for coffee , that results in parents being busy talking and letting their children scream and thrown tantrums - with plenty of options around it, would not recommend unless you fit the above profile

Delicious fresh pastries, cakes, cookies and bread. The sourdough breads are amazing. Disappointed that they've had to switch from paper bags to plastic which is extremely backwards but the staff told me its because customers were complaining they couldn't see what they were buying (all the breads are pre bagged due to covid 19). Shame on all of you that complained, you cant see the bread boo hoo, thats why they placed signs there telling you what was in side!!! Thats the only reason I've given 4* because they company gave in and started producing plastic bags, contributing to the deathly plastic pollution thats already been beyond a problem for donkeys.

It’s the 25th of July and masks in UK shops are mandatory by law since yesterday, yet the shop manager, assistants and some customers in the Gail’s on Northcote were not wearing masks today. When we mentioned it to them, they said they do not need to. What’s going on?? Why do you think you’re above the law?

Ordered two quiches and coffees. We were told that the quiches couldn’t be warmed up as they couldn’t touch the food, but they were on a cardboard plate already? This made them very dry tasteless. The coffees were lukewarm. Cost £17.00. Not a pleasurable experience.

They have really good pastries. Their croissants, almond croissants and pain au chocolat are delicious!! I can’t give them 5 stars because their bread isn’t great including baguettes. They are currently closed due to the Corona lockdown, but it looks like they deliver to your house:

When I visited 8 months ago they were redoing the place, it seemed a bit of a mess. A wooden skirting board fell on my foot (slightly painful) and the staff were pretty unsympathetic. It put me off at the time but hopefully it's improved now.

Nice and friendly staff, a huge range of tasty bakery and savoury cakes like as well vegan alternatives. Contactless accepted. Espresso taste horrible, if like me having it just black. Seating area inside like as well outside.

All we wanted was a flat white coffee and a decaf breakfast tea in-house. This was pre-Xmas week, so was busy, but then Gail’s is ALWAYS busy. Gail’s are essentially an Artisan bakery (which is very good), Their breakfasts/food served in the cafe is also good. But it falls down badly on staff training and service. (This is also true of Gails in Battersea Square, which implies it is a regional office organisational problem). 1. They didn’t do decaffeinated tea. This in an area that screams organic, allergy conscious, gluten-free, you name it. 2. The young girl waitress delivered a coffee intended for another table, despite the order number being clearly displayed on our table. 3. The correct order (non-decaffeinated) breakfast tea was then served with hot milk(!). The flat-white was warm only. 4. The glasses by the counter water jug were badly dishwasher scale stained, and water jug empty. This was pointed out to staff who gave us paper cups instead, although this failed to address the actual problem of smeared glasses. The water offered turned out to be tepid, not cold, which was rather off putting. This was a particularly annoying visit to Gail’s, but it is far from an isolated occasion - Central management need to tighten up procedures in their shops.

I live a long way from London so I had never come across Gail's before. As I was in a hurry, I got a sausage roll and a coffee to go. Without question it was the best sausage roll I've ever tasted and the coffee was really good too!

Cozy bakery/bistro with friendly atmosphere and likable staff. The coffee is outstanding, baked goods and breads are abundant, and there are even a few vegan options!

good coffee, nice food but slightly overpriced..service can be slow and don't check if you want chocolate on cappucino more often than not. Is often very noisy, something to do with design as worse than it used to be and seems bad planning to only have one toilet in a cafe which caters largely to families

So we had three separate orders, each of which have coffee with it. When we came into the counter, the lady who was on duty at the time asked if the coffee was ours. I accidentally said “yes” not realizing that it was not ours all along. Then she started shouting at me when she realized that I made a mistake. For a Filipino customer visiting London, this is the kind of reception we get? Come to our country and see how we treat not only our visitors but every client and customer or person we meet!
