Very friendly, warm atmosphere, food delicious and piping hot, would recommend a visit here, came and had fish and chips, have also tried the lasagne all very nice, good value for money

The place itself is lo Ely, warm, friendly and welcoming. Didn't have to wait long for our food to be served but we was utterly disappointed. We have 2 burger meals, 2 roast beef dinners and a steak. The roast potatoes tasted like frozen ones. The steak meal came without a steak knife and wasn't cooked properly, the burgers had an awful smell to them and the chips tasted like they had been cooked in really old oil. Will not be returning unfortunately.

Myself, my husband and 3 children visited for Sunday lunch, we pre booked. Originally my husband ordered sirlion steak but was told that they didn’t have any so he chose a Sunday lunch the same as me, the menu stated that it was a traditional Sunday lunch with homemade Yorkshire puddings, we both opted for the turkey as it came with a pig in blanket and also opted for the extra meat portion, we were very much looking forward to a nice warming Sunday lunch! The food arrived promptly after ordering however we were very disappointed to see that the whole plate of food was very much not homemade and was however frozen food, the Yorkshire pudding definatley were not homemade and were little rounded ones just like you can buy frozen in a bag at the supermarket, the veg was tasteless and watery and the meat we had to pull apart to remove fat, the gravy was also watery. Overall very very disappointing especially for the price you do not expect frozen food to arrive on the plate. We were also missing the pigs in blankets on each dinner, when we asked about this the waitress informed us that the chef said they didn’t have any, It would have been a good idea to inform us of this when ordering. Unfortunately we will not be visiting again, very disappointing for a £50 bill.

Some really harsh reviews, the atmosphere is good and upbeat. The food is pretty spot on and portions are a decent size and not too pricey! Had a choice of seats and the waitress was really friendly and happy. Definitely my new local 👍🏼

Nipped in today for a quick bite, even though after last time we said we wouldn't, and now I remember why! The bar staff are chewing food as they're serving you, now correct me if I'm wrong but being front of house is an important job that should be held with the upmost respect, first impressions are everthing, particularly within a food orientated environment. My food was wrong again as it was last time, and when replaced was wrong again. We ordered two kebabs, and as the woman clearly stated as she went straight on the defensive "we only do two kebabs" to which I answered " yes I know" so you would think that it wouldn't be that hard to get right wouldn't you. My dish came back with a half arsed attempt to put right the first dish, and was still wrong, meanwhile the waiters dressed in tracksuits seem to have been plucked out of thin air from the available punters on the day. All in all another disappointing visit to what used to be a great family pub to have a decent bite to eat. Absolutely won't be going back!

WOW! WHAT A STAR! The lady behind the bar, Paula, was working alone and very busy but, rather than succumb to the pressure, she continued to smile, give great service and ensure her customers were satisfied. As a former Licencee, I wish I had someone as efficient, hardworking and dedicated as Paula. She's a living legend.

Waited nearly an hour had my food served after my prompting with no knives or forks or anything I was really annoyed and when I said am I supposed eat it with my face because i didn't have knives and forks I was told not be rude, i walked out because I will not eat food served by people with this attitude because lord only knows what they did to it . I'm done Lining the pockets of these people in Stoke on Trent because they prove themselves to be nasty selfish people that are more than willing to bite the the hand that feeds them, then blame someone else for it when it all goes wrong as is historically the case .

Booked a meal at the Gables for my brothers 40th birthday - staff were very accommodating and all our food came out together. We got put in the bottom corner all together which was good as there was 20 of us including children so we were all together.

Clean & tidy pub, food is good, staff are lovely, beer is nice, clean lines, recommend a visit.

Lovely pub and the food is normal pub food but it is presented very way and cooked just right. It's time it got a refit inside but that dosnt change that it's got a great atmosphere and they have good night with music. Well worth a visit..

I've been coming to this pub for years and I've never had a bad experience. The staff have always been friendly, food has always been great, and it's always been clean.

Went in with family 10+ people ,we sat on two tables 18/20 so when we ordered we were told that they had no rump steak ok fine fair enough so 4/5 people ordered the stirloin steak so after waiting 1 hour the bar man with very long hair (not tied up) came with 2 plates with rump steaks on, we asked him why we were told that you had no rump steaks but clearly you hadn't he rush off in a huff with no explanation. so after waiting 10-15 minutes, the first table food came with the same bloke with the long hair and a young girl with blonde hair. Very long hair not tied up touching the food as she was placing it down. So me my wife and daughter on the second table waited for 10-15 minutes with no sign of the food coming we went to the bar to enquire about it to be told that no one ordered from table 20. I was shocked, my reply was this is the worst establishments I've ever been to. To be told by the guy with the long hair that he is on his own but in a right attitude my reply was you don't talk to customers like this, I want a refund so after being questioned by a scruffy looking guy with a baseball cap on, I'm guessing he was some kind of manager or maybe a boss he finally refunded me. It's a shame really. This place used to be really good but now it's just shocking

Terrible!!! Worst meal we've had in a long time. Food looked like cheap frozen reheated rubbish. They couldn't get my order right. I ordered a classic chicken burger but received a beef burger. When they eventually gave me my meal, they had reheated the chips. staff were drinking on the opposite side of the bar and serving food to customers at the same time, very unhygienic. Enamel was chipped off the metal plates, they looked like camping plates. Needs a good shake up tbh. Miserable looking staff, communication was unprofessional. The place was dead , now we know why.

We visited The Gables pub today, 9 of us without booking. The service was warm and welcome and the food was absolutely delicious, nice and hot and super speedy! Thanks for having us!

Discusting meal tomato was black at the end the letic was limp and black. The hot dog roll was dry and hard the fries cold and had to sit with a child listening to bad language all in all terable never again

No Turkey dinners available at 1.15pm. No apple juice, 1 hour and 10 minutes for food to arrive and veg and roast potatoes were cold. One of the chicken was dry and inedible. Absolutely terrible!!! Waste of money!!!!

Absolutely awful , over 35 minutes wait , table was very sticky , Chips looked like they had been reheated , garden peas hard , steak so dry hard to cut , lettuce on my grandsons burgers looked well past their sale date .Our food arrived with one of the servers actually wearing a puffer coat like he had just come from outside .Disgraceful.

Me and my children (ages 8-15) went here today. We ordered a child's meal, cheese burger and a bbq cauliflower wings house salad. All come in good time and tasted lovely. The service itself was lovely, the girl behind the bar was very pleasant and efficient. All in all its a lovely place with lovely food.

I ordered the fish and chips the portioning was amazing the service was very good!

Very quiet, 6 minutes to get served and I was the only person there when I ordered my 1st pint. However the friendly and polite staff didn't make this a huge concern

For of us have just had a very nice Sunday roast. It took a little while to reach the table after ordering but was worth the wait. Very enjoyable. The young lady behind the bar was very polite and pleasant.

My son had a chicken burger and I had the new York chicken...my son went up to order and came back with no drinks saying the bar tender had said they would bring them over.. We waited ten mins and had to go back up to get them as they had forgotten....the food came it was average to be fair... And the pub was a nightmare with kids running up and down and even playing football in there..couldnt wait to get out..wont be going back again in a hurry that's for sure 😕 thanks for the reply gables just read all your other reviews wish I'd read them before coming in!!!!

Not been to the gables for a couple of years now but called in tonight found lady behind the bar very sociable orded our food and enjoyed it but it was after quite a long wait considering there was a only a few people in which shouldn't be.having said that the chef. Came to us and was very nice and we will be going back there hopefully not be waiting so long.give it a try

I went there last night and the food was absolutely incredible if you have a sweet tooth i would highly recomend looking at there varity of deserts and if you love your steaks they do a banging steak and the pints are arent too overpriced i would recomend the gables to anyone

Used to dine here a lot but not been for about twelve months until today. Came with my son,his partner and my four month grandaughter. When we arrived we found a table and sat down then a untidy looking guy with a baseball cap on came over sprayed our table and wiped with a cloth,we wondered who he was which made my son's partner feel uneasy. We ordered burgers one cowboy,one southern fried and a pie. When burgers came fries were only just warm and looked over cooked.the cowboy burger was tasteless and southern fried burger was hard. The only good meal was the pie. We would of complained but there was no one around to speak to so we just left and won't be rushing back. This used to be such a lovely place to eat 😔

Just came in with mates for a quick bite to eat and ended up staying on for drinks! Great evening, cheers, Gables!

I visited The Gables in Stoke last Thursday with my freind for his Birthday after a family recommendation. The food was good value for money and we enjoyed playing darts. Unfortunately after paying for our meals and drinks, £47.51, I then remembered I had a voucher for 30% of our main meals. I asked the lady who served me if she could reimburse me approximately the £6.00 but she said unfortunately she couldn't as I'd already paid and the area manager was clamping down on this sort of thing. Obviously this made me angry and it put a dampner on an otherwise pleasant visit. Further to my review of my experience at The Gables, I have since spoken to the owner who has now satisfactorily resolved the issue for me.

Went for a meal the service was brilliant and the staff were warm and welcoming and friendly the food was brilliant had the mega mixed grill cooked to perfection by the chef and just a lovely atmosphere will definitely be making it my regular place to go with family and friends

Went for a meal on Saturday 27th January in the evening not too many people in got served by a young girl for 2 large mixed grills which took nearly an hour to arrive people who had come in way after us were eating before us .... the chicken which i complained about straight away was like a giant eraser! The young girl disappeared after saying she would tell the kitchen waited 20 minutes for more chicken the steak was chewy and not medium like wed asked the chips were dry and the sausages were burnt .... nearly £20 each and my poor partner could barely eat his which was worse then mine but after waiting nearly an hour i we were starving ... when the young lady returned it was a glance and i ll tell the kitchen and was gone again never to return ...absolutely shocking other people were complaining too which just added to the whole experience

Booked a table for six people for 17.30 we ordered the food and we had to wait over an hour for the starters and the main course came at 19.15 which was two hours after we got there. The food was very nice but the wait was ridiculous they need more staff on I can honestly say I will not be going back any time soon

Poor! Ordered food...mushrooms...came with no garlic mayo or chives, when challenged was told by the waitress "I didn't know"...clearly no communication between kitchen and FOH staff!! Asked for a refund...she then came back, slammed a 50p piece on the table and said "that's for your sauce"!!! WOW!!! My son had the steak (requested rare)....simply awful!!! His peas were partly frozen (the fresher ones) and there were peas clearly left from a previous order that were hard and dry!! Cannot recommend this place at all! Used to be a great place to dine!! Need to 'raise the bar' significantly!! Also the condaments that we received were inconsistently dated...no date label on the tomato ketchup. This is concerning as it is a health and safety concern. Are staff H&S trained in these expectations by a qualified source of hospitality qualificatioon? Porr, poor, POOR!!

My partner and I visited The Gables for lunch mid-December on a day when there were very few other diners (16th Dec). We waited an hour for our food to arrive - I had to chase up at the bar for an update after 40 minutes of waiting and I wasn't even given an apology at all for the delay. When the food did eventually arrive (1 hour wait time in total) again I wasn't given any apology for the delay (which is a basic expectation). It was unfortunately a disappointing visit - Had it felt like we mattered I may have felt differently.

Smashing place but seating uncomfortable and very spaced out, main problem is for years now the pub is to cold you eat with your coat on, saw a fella put his coat back on realised shirt not enough. Bar area massive takes up most of floor space, pity because food and service good, oh house wine over a £5 a glass ! Bit expensive

Great family pub food is amazing new management is second to non really welcoming dogs can come too they even put a film on for my son

Delicious Fish. Excellent value. Well priced and beautifully cooked. New manager Oct23 . Very friendly. Toilets were spotless. Good range of daily specials. Open all day. We went very early evening. Easy free parking big enough for my pickup truck. Pool table.

Very nice peaceful not busy so you could enjoy the food as we went out for dinner. Food was very nice and reasonable price Staff was all polite and helpful.

Staff polite and helpful. Areas cleaned as soon as needed (quite unsual these days) 4 different meals delivered piping hot and very tasty.

Me and the missus had food here this afternoon, what can I say? Lovely stuff! I had a mixed grill which was extremely nice and my other half had a really good southern fried chicken burger which I think I'll have next time as it looked tasty! I'm so glad this place finally has a manager who knows what she's doing, hoping she stays on for a good long time to come!
