FURNA in Brighton and Hove

Absolutely class, runs like clockwork. FOH are just as much professionals as the chefs are, attentive without being intrusive and incredibly polite. The food is amazing, every detail of the dishes and the service feels intentional and laboured over. Sat at the pass and watching the chefs, you could just see how calm, precise and focused they were, while still having time for a chat. Expensive but worth every penny, these guys know what they’re doing.

What can I say, this place is absolute perfection. As a semi-regular frequenter of Michelin-starred restaurants, I can say with sincerity that FURNA easily fits into a 2-star category (and even 3). In my last visit, the creativity of turning squid into noodles and combining it with this genius broth, pork belly, and a perfectly grilled shitake mushroom - this dish is something out-of-this-world stellar, and I cannot for the life of me fathom how blessed/fortunate/privileged I am to have tasted this. FURNA is so damn amazing that during the dinner, I made another reservation. Can't wait to come back in February! (And I'll probably make another reservation then as well!) ... and KFC stands for "Kickass FURNA Chicken"!!!

Furna is our go to special restaurant and we are never disappointed. Each meal we have enjoyed has been an experience of flavours and visual delights. Their warmth and attention to detail add to the fun and professionalism.

Easily the best restaurant in Brighton in my opinion. Really interesting food, great wine pairings. The menu was completely changed from when we went a few months ago but was just as fantastic as it had been before. Cant wait to go back.

Absolutely fantastic tasting menu; I couldn't fault a single dish on there. Staff were attentive without being over bearing, extremely knowledgeable and talented individuals working here. We've been to many good restaurants and michelins over the years but this has to be one of the absolute best experiences we've had. The cocktails were also excellent. Just go visit immediately before it leapfrogs ahead in the accolades and becomes impossible to book!

We had a wonderful first experience of dining at Furna. The food was of an amazing standard, really innovative and unique dishes. Staff were attentive and it was lovely to have the chefs explaining the dishes. We would definitely recommend and hope to come again soon.

From quality to presentation, from finesse to adventurousness. We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 course tasting menu at Furna. The service is outstanding, warm and personal and the chef‘s passion, especially the lovely desert chef’s, that has gone into each and every dish is striking. It’s the second time my husband and I have been to Furna and we‘ll definitely be back soon.

Another fantastic meal at FURNA last night. We went for the game tasting menu and every course was delicious, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. Everything was amazing but standout dishes for us were the deer agnolotti, the duck pie and the dessert ( with artichoke ice cream?) amazing and of course the famous bread and cultured butter. Everytime we go, we feel it can’t get any better and it does! Thank you FURNA staff for an incredible evening. Can’t wait until we visit again.

I went to Furna for lunch with two friends on 12th April 2024 as we were all 60 years of age this year. What an incredible and amazing lunch it was! Also had an amazing lunch on 3 October 2024 for our wedding anniversary. From the initial greeting by the maitre d, the fabulous cocktails made by the wonderful drinks mixologist, the insights on our wine pairing from the sommelier and the food and the conversations with the chefs, including Dave Mothersill - all were truly superb. We had the tasting menu with paired wines - beautifully presented and a very leisurely pace as we worked our way through each dish. They even made us a surprise birthday macaroon each to finish off what was one of the best lunches we have ever had. Highly recommend Furna the people, the food and the place are just first class!

Every time we come I’m reminded of just how good the food is here & as my sister in law said this is worthy of a last meal “what would you have?!” 😂 The monkfish was perfection and the details in all the courses are incredible, just the bread (a buttery salty brioche) would keep me coming back.

This was visit number 6 and if anything it was even more wonderful than the previous 5 fantastic experiences. Already planning our next . The Chef and his team were on fire every dish was close to being a work of art but still real tasty food not some foamy self indulgent nonsense . The service throughout was just fantastic, many dishes being introduced to us by Dave Mothersill and others by members of his amazing team. Every dish was outstanding , these guys are incredible,it was so wonderful that our foodie visitors want to move to Brighton . Jess was on form too with her two desert courses one of which had so many layers of complexity and was , well , WOW ! We left nicely replete , not stuffed and how fantastic to leave feeling like you have had a wonderful , special experience - sadly all too often thats not the case . Expensive - yes , good value - absolutely . Probably the best value restaurant in Brighton at the moment.

Amazing !! Furna offers the whole package !! Phenomenal food , excellent wine choices and wonderful informative attentive and yet surprisingly discreet staff. Incredible food, we loved the monkfish and deer, and the deserts were fab. Lucky to sit at the pass and chatted to the friendly team, a really fun night and some of the best food in Brighton. Can’t wait to go back!

I like how this restaurant has both a la carte & degustation. We went for carte… food was delicious. Stand out was the bread & the deer. The open kitchen was well run & calm, all the staff were lovely. Saw lots of the degustation food come out as was sat near the open kitchen… it looked well balanced & excellently presented. It’s a small restaurant so quite intimate, the chef did come out to speak with some people who were having degustation menu. If I have one criticism the dessert was tiny… I understand that treacle tart a rich desert but this one was actually a lighter version & was basically two bites… usually we shared a dessert but I had ordered the blue cheese, it’s a good job as sweet was a slither.

Had an impromptu meal here and it was simply sensational we were very lucky as we had not booked however we received a very warm welcome and after we decided to go for tasting menu and matching wine flight everything was taken care of I highly recommended this restaurant for their laid back vibe you really do feel like you are in safe hands they are very professional and have talent to match in all areas from the time you arrive to the time you leave it’s not cheap but it is very good value they are at the top of their game I look forward to bringing so friends here

Booked Furna on personal recommendation for my husband’s significant birthday. We were unable to go as planned, but were offered alternative dates by Lucy that was extremely helpful. Our seats at the chef’s table (as my husband is a bit of a foody) was an excellent option, we were talked through all the dishes on our tasting menu, with the wine option it made our visit extremely memorable, Jess and Dave, with the rest of the team went the extra mile, the food was outstanding, every morsel delicious, and the presentation a delight. We left the restaurant buoyant, and happy, my husband is very pleased, thank you Furna !!

Without a doubt the best restaurant in Brighton. The food was exceptional and I look forward to visiting again to try more of it. (Honourable mentions for the potatoes and beef tartare). You can tell a lot of love and consideration has been put into kitting out the place. A nice luxe setting and tasteful decor sets the mood. We found the service slightly lacking, not quite up to level with the food. I will give the benefit of the doubt as they were (understandably and deservedly) very busy. They have a fantastic wine menu with really special and unusual offerings (extra points for Coravin). It would be great if the sommelier had a bit more time to spend with you going over the list and explaining the wine. Having said this they were not mean with samples, just a lack of direction and explanation. All in all, a really great experience and I’m keen to go back, albeit on a quieter night. It’s rare I’ve seen a menu where I’d like to try every single dish. For that reason, the small plate / sharing type format was perfect. Nice touch to have the chefs hand deliver their own creations to the table.

Purchased online gift cards on here to go towards an engagement dinner as a friend recommended and I was called by a rude lady a few days later accusing me of fraud because the voucher was £175 for £50 I paid via Apple Pay and didn’t really pay much attention and thought it was a Groupon type deal as I’ve never heard of this restaurant before, I now understand the website had issues however that’s not my fault. Point is you can’t blame a client for your amateur hour errors and the rudeness on the phone was unwarranted and over the top. - The response to the complaint is absolute nonsense! The fact is i was met with a rude abrupt phone-call with no explanation other than fraud? Had someone of explained the situation and taken accountability for your website error instead of blaming your customers i would have been understanding and not wrote this review. Also I would cry too if i had to call hundreds of customers and lie to them in an awful attempt of damage control, good job you do 5⭐️ grub because your resolutions department is shocking

We came to Furna for a graduation dinner and tried different tasting menus. The food was outstanding, we all loved the tastes and colors and backgrounds to different dishes. The atmosphere was excellent and the service was very good. A very special place. Thank you to all at Furna.

INCREDIBLE food and service. Highly highly recommend the clams, lobster rice, beef fat chips and madeleines. It’s not like anything I’ve had before. Walked in on a Friday night and was able to get seated outside. The staff all seemed so dedicated to their craft also when they introduced each dish.

This was our third visit to Furna. On the previous two occasions we had the shorter tasting menu and it was excellent. Unfortunately, the shorter tasting menu is no longer an option so we went for the a la carte. We started with the bread and whipped cod's roe which was delicious. My partner then had the Bonito Ceviche which was too cold and rather tasteless and described by the server as a "bowl of tomatoes". I had the Lobster Ravioli which was nice but I got one ravioli measuring about 7 cms by 7 cms for £17 - just not worth it. My partner had the Tamworth Pork Chop with Kohlrabi, Fig and Watercress. The chop was a good size but was served just about warm with parts of it being raw. There was no sign of the kohlrabi, fig and watercress. Overall it was very disappointing.

Simply exceptional visit, one of the best meals I have ever eaten, superb cookery from Start to finish. The best bread course of any restaurant, anywhere. Everything was perfect but extra shout out to a superbly talented pastry chef, Jess, just incredible!

A la carte this time and it did not disappoint, far from it, all dishes we tried were delicious. Always a real pleasure to visit Furna - thank you guys

Went here to try the new a ala carte menu and we were not disappointed. Undoubtedly the dish that stood out was the Lobster Rice. The sauce was incredibly rich, in the nicest way. Another dish we plan to get next time is the Tomato Salad. I enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the chefs create. I have already planned my next order, Trout to start and then Lamb.

We had a wonderful evening at Furna. We emailed ahead of time to let the team know we're vegetarian and we enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu and wine pairing. We sat at the counter which was surprisingly comfortable. We were here last year and realised that the team hadn't changed much since we last visited - the fact that that good people stay there so long is a great sign that they must look after their staff.

Great decor, furnishings, service and wine. But the a la carte dishes are too small and very overpriced - a single scallop for £18 anyone? These would be fine taster menu items, but are scandalous as a la carte dishes at that price. A shame.

Fabulous food and the best possible service from everyone we spoke to. Not a big restaurant so a really great atmosphere. The food was sublime and it was clear the chefs we spoke to were incredibly passionate about what they did. Wine pairing was really interesting and well constructed as well. Good vege menu not just an after thought but given as much attention as the regular tasting menu.

Food is delicious. Even items I usually avoid like fish roe were prepared so well they were delightful!

Simply 'wow'. I cannot believe it has taken me so long to step into this culinary delight of a restaurant in Brighton. I went on a Friday afternoon, sat at the kitchen counter (something I always do if there is an option to) and had the best experience. The nine-course tasting menu was exceptional, from the presentation to the taste, the pairing wines (some options I would never have had the guts to choose) were exceptional, the team were lovely - friendly and so knowledgeable - they obviously enjoy working at Furna. Last but not least, the architecture of the restaurant is something to behold - the light that floods into the restaurant is so unexpected and glorious. Just amazing. See you again soon!

S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G. Came here for a belated birthday meal, no idea what to really expect but oh my days, if this place isn't perfectly executed on all fronts then I don't know what is. We sat up at the kitchen counter, mainly to be nosy and watch all the prep work. The team were unbelievably professional, insightful, helpful, more than happy to have a chat about the dishes/wine and the influence behind them (our questioning was incessant). We had the tasting menu, accompanied by the wine pairing. It's 8 courses, which may seem intimidating but was honestly the perfect amount, ever so slightly full at the end but not stuffed to discomfort. We probably overstayed our welcome (7 til closing...) but there was none of this "you have a two hour slot" nonsense, they went at our pace and vice versa. Much love for Dave and his team, they made the night really special <3

As you know, if you’re lucky to be in or near brilliant Brighton, there are loads and loads of great restaurants and bars. Loads. So anyone opening a new place has to offer something special - and Furna definitely does! And then some. The decor is absolutely lovely, a great space to pass an hour or four, the staff are also equally lovely too, but the food (a tasting menu with everything you’d want and more you just didn’t think of) and cocktails (big thumbs up for Parsnip) are out of this world. Just amazing. My advice? Go.

We booked Furna, not having been before so didn't know what to expect. I couldn't fault the service or the food, the staff were attentive and their knowledge of the food as they walked you through the menu and the courses was first class. The decor was 5 star although it was quiet that lunchtime hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. I'd imagine with more people there would be quite a buzz and it would add to the experience. Brighton needs restaurants like Furna and not just the wide choice of casual dining in the City.

Our second visit. We had a wonderful meal with a very imaginative menu. The wine pairing was well thought out. Our one suggestion is to add a table cloth. We are not a fans of bare wood table tops in fine dinimg restaurants, and this is fine dining. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food courses and the wine pairing which were each individually explained.We liked that the chefs took turns to serve and explain the dishes. A nice touch.
