Fu Lam in Wirral

Whilst staying in the area we ordered a takeaway from here. They were fast and efficient and fairly priced. The salt and pepper chips were hot and tasty, we also had special chow mein and chicken satay. The portions were very generous and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend.

We had a family meal tonight and all the CHINESE food was superb. Can't comment on chips but why go to a Chinese for Chips! Best Chinese takeaway I've had on the Wirral.

I have been visiting this takeaway for years now. Firstly would like to say how wonderful all the staff are here. Chinese dishes full of flavour & made to a great standard. Wide variety of dishes, maybe the only problem as I want to order everything on the menu! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new Chinese takeaway.

Firstly I am only commenting on their fish and chips as I have no experience of their other dishes. Probably the worst I have ever had. How a fish and chip shop can sell frozen oven chips is beyond me. There are some hand written signs around the shop but it's not the kind of thing I have ever experienced and I didn't notice until it was too late. Getting the package home I was immediately struck by the off putting smell of the chips like old cooking oil, the chips themselves were dry and bitter tasting, the fish had a strange white batter that had mostly fell off the soggy unpleasant fish and was dripping in grease. I tried both and was so appalled I donated the whole takeaway to the wildlife in my garden. In conclusion this meal was not cheap. If they are not able or willing to do it properly, don't bother and stick to what you're good at.

DON'T. Beef was as tough as an old pair of boots. Disgusting.

We only noticed after placing our order that they were doing oven chips instead of proper chippy chips. It was expensive for what it was.

Didn't realise until too late frozen chips not real potatoe ones and they were not good ones, Fish was greasy and curry sauce tasted really bland and watered down. Never again

Gave one star for friendliness of staff, but other than that, disgusting :( didn’t realise until placed order that oven chips would be served in place of real potato chips. Tried here rather than queuing for Marigolds and now wish we didn’t. Charged £10 for a fish dinner in a tray, oven chips and pollock. Hugely disappointed.

Sorry to say, but a very disappointing meal from Fu Lam in West Kirby today. Ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with half fried rice and half chips. The chicken was difficult to find, buried in thick heavy batter. The takeaway meal cost 8 pounds. There were no vegetables at all, or pineapple etc in the sweet sticky sauce. I took the meal back to Fu Lam to say I think there had been a mistake with my order, as there were no vegetables in the main dish. I was told by the Chinese lady, who I presume was the owner, that people around here don’t like any vegetables in their sweet and sour chicken! I replied that I did, and I always got them in my sweet and sour chicken automatically at every other Chinese takeaway I have been to. The lady said she was sorry, but that was how the dish came. I said I couldn’t eat the food as it was very stodgy and unhealthy with so much thick batter, and no vegetables at all. The lady said sorry again, that’s just how it came. No alternative dish or refund was offered. There were no other customers in Fu Lam when I initially ordered my meal, nor when I returned to speak to them about what I thought was a mistake with my food. I cannot recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning to it.

No chips, serving oven chips in lieu of actual chips. Not great when you phone an order. Food average at best.

Food was good, did try and make a complaint but the admin never got back to me (regarding to the flavour of the duck), but overall a solid dining experience

I tell you what, West Kirby’s never seen anything like it! Chicken chow main was off the charts, udon was unbeatable and prawn toast were perfection (crackers slightly soggy). The staff were really kind given the circumstances and I had a great experience as a whole!

Salt and pepper chicken is belter can’t lie

Bought a large portion of chips for £3.65. Consisted of a few scoops of deep fried oven chips. Total rip off. Portion was smaller than a portion of chips you'd get from any chip shop on the Wirral and they were not made from fresh potatoes.

Now only selling FROZEN chips due to the increase in the cost of potatoes!

We have had really decent Chinese food from the fu lam but the fish and chips on this particular night were so greasy. The batter was hanging loose off the fish and was soggy. The fish was small and not worth the price paid. And the chips tasted like they had been cooked a while ago. Really disappointing.

No doubt about it we should have gone to CHEUNGS SUPPER BAR.. WHICH IS THE BEST CHINESE TAKE AWAY ON THE WIRRAL.. so people... you need to get there and not to fu lam.. worst meal we have eaten

Over the last 12 months been here numerous times the fish an chips is the best around the fish is cooked fresh while you wait

I love this place. Staff are attentive. The food is always so tasty and plentiful. I’d be here all the time if my waistline would allow. The salt & pepper chips are my guilty pleasure. I think my only gripe is that I can’t order online and when you go to pay you have to pay by cash. I rarely have cash on me and locally there are not many cash points. I’d happily order and pay online then pick up.

Ordered the beef ginger and spring onions and vermicelli were amazing, the spice just right at the point. And the chips was crispy and not greasy!!

Food is lovely and so are the staff. Authentic Chinese cuisine! :)

Fish was a fish of grease and batter was soggy- disappointed much and in bin Peas were cold and hard also in bin

I ordered a takeaway for three adults and two children costing £50. Majority was thrown in the bin. Tasteless , horrid food. I called to complain and was told to bring everything back in the bag if I wanted a full refund?! Terrible food and appalling customer care. Will NOT be returning,

Just visiting the area and googled local take always. What a gem of a find. Food delicious. It is a combined fish n chips/Chinese. We had salt and pepper chips, bbq spare ribs and special kung po (comes with rice)enough for three people was served to just the two of us, nice and spicy too. Covid safe but a bit of waiting around to collect. Would recommend.

Can't fault the food or the portions. Good to be home where the chippy includes rice with the meal rather than it being charged separately.

We have been using this Chippy for years, really can not fault it, fabulous food wouldn’t go anywhere else. 👍

Fairly standard Chinese chippy. We only had fish and chips, but they do Chinese takeaway food. Ours was OK, but a bit greasy for my taste.

Been going here since it opened and it's awesome. Staff are great and food always on point and nicely priced too. I recommend the crispy chili beef with boiled rice. Out of this world!!

Been getting my Chinese takeout from here for last 3 years, it’s totally fine, the staff are great, good prices and great food particularly salt & pepper chicken, and the portions are large!

Gave wrong order , then asked to bring food back!! Shocking . Will not be going there again as I live in Upton and they wanted me to travel back with food they had got wrong !

Friendly Chinese take away, very tolerant of customers who always have the same thing! Late opening to 11pm is particularly handy for me.

I've been here a few times recently and the food has always been really tasty, hot, and plentiful. And after an evening spent in the West Kirby Tap (the local real ale pub just a stones throw away), what more could you ask for?

I have been going here to buy a piece of fried, battered fish for years. It is always freshly cooked and has a really good taste. At £3.70 it is good value. I will keep on going to Fu Lam for my snacks.

An average takeaway which could do with a bit of a refurb as does not give the impression of cleanliness. Have said that food is pleasant enough

Get sweet and sour chicken or pork, absolutely amazing. Good wonton soup and decent steamed siu mai. We get takeaways from here on regular basis and never been dossapointed! They even treat us sometimes to a free desserts or a bag of prawn crackers!

i really like the food here, it tastes like real food as opposed to an MSG/Salt mix, and i've always had good service. I would encourage some form of online menu, even if its just a photograph of the menu added to the location on google. (y)
