Frydays (cod and cake) is a beautiful cafe/restaurant/takeaway, community hub in the heart of lovely Whaley Bridge. It serves not only fish and chips but also other freshly cooked food to order, catering to dietary needs and preferences. It serves barista style coffees, freshly baked cakes, (courtesy of the manager/owner) - sandwiches, quiches, baked potato, salads etc etc. This is a family business and it shows. There is an obvious increased employee friendly socially responsive approach to customer service here, starting with a smile. You can have a quick moan about the weather, a chat about the football (bearing in mind that staff are also working incredibly hard simultaneously, to serve your freshly cooked food, in a timely manner) You can sit quietly in a corner with your book, laptop, people watch with your doggie, whatever is right for you. You can congregate (or sit alone) upstairs in a tastefully decorated restaurant. There is a licensed bar also upstairs. You can have numerous types of events here; birthday, anniversary, family/friend/colleagues get together, celebration. whatever ? This business also displays and champions local art work. The toilets are spotless and decorated to a high standard. The restaurant is light well ventilated, with ample spaces between tables. Thank you to all the staff who show a constant reserved, humorous, respectful approach to their customers. You make it look so easy when the work must be exhausting. 🏆 🌹 champagne 🍾 ❤️

I must have driven past here so many times. For once, we were able to stop. Parking can be just potluck. I never knew this was a restaurant, I always thought it was just a takeaway. I had a regular battered cod and large mushy peas and curry sauce. The portions were generous. My colleague ordered cheesy chips, which were really good. The cheese was grilled before serving, a nice touch. Again, it is a generous portion. It's worth checking out. it seems to be popular with the locals.

When you're Coeliac you accept there will be things you can never eat again an fish and chips from a chippy used to be one of those. ...but no.longer. Frydays is a cafe as well as a chip shop and everyone is catered for with friendly and helpful staff snd great food choices. The cakes are amazing and they managed to make a simple sandwich taste wonderful. The locals obviously know what a treasure they have but this is a place worth travelling to.

Cod and Cake meets an elite standard by which you can judge all other cafe/restaurants in this area and beyond. This is a family run business. All the staff are always welcoming, very friendly, non intrusive, discreet and always ready to help. The customer service is so professional it looks easy. The move from the former establishment (Frydays) clearly took a huge amount of hard work and dedication and it shows. The premises are extremely clean. Sit downstairs and enjoy the hustle and bustle or upstairs for bigger parties. You can come alone with your book and sit comfortably. I have it on good authority that you can now have a glass of wine, beer cider etc with your meal. Great for special occasions as well, lots of tables upstairs. The atmosphere is lovely as is the ambience. I have been several times. The food is absolutely delicious and extremely varied. You can start the day with a fresh coffee and tea cake. At lunch time you can have a lovely freshly cooked plate of fish and chips (tartare sauce and lemon) or a freshly baked quiche and salad for example. There is something for all tastes and diets. Trained barista’s on hand to make coffee, and some of the cakes are freshly made by the owner, as are some of the pastries etc to finish your meal or have later on. I suppose every comprehensive review should invoke a drawback, so I will say the stairs leading to the upstairs restaurant are a little steep but there’s a hand rail and it is only a short flight. The is no restricted access to this lovely enterprise now since the bridge re opened and consequently the main road. I would advise all to visit and take in the lovely scenery in Whaley Bridge also.

I’d given up going for fish and chips. The last good one, Fosters in Alderley Edge has gone rapidly downhill. So I took this recommendation warily. Like lots of things in life I was totally wrong. Fried in dripping the chips we’re faultless and the fish excellent. The staff speedy and friendly, this feels like a throwback in the best way. Go.

Decided on a chippy lunch so had to be Frydays. We both had puddings which you could tell were fresh and not sat in the steamer for too long and we both had chips. I had a small portion and the other half had a medium portion. Wow they were big portions so the mind boggles at how many you’d get in a large portion. Maybe next time we’ll get a large between us. Chips were thinner than you’d normally expect from a chippy but actually were lovely. I was tempted by the cakes that we were winking at me and opted for the chocolate brownie. Have to say it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever had.

So I visited for the first time last night. I had previously telephoned to ask for some GF batter for my fish, When I arrived, they were extremely helpful and explained that they use completely separate utensils for GF fish and food. The atmosphere in this chippy / cafe (as it does have some eat in tables) was good, very pleasant and ALL the staff were friendly. The chips were lovely and the fish was fresh and tasty. We shall definitely go there again and it was worth the 5 mile drive.WILL BE BACK.

Absolutely lovely people, family run, great fun with customers & caring, lovely atmosphere. I heard someone say that as I was leaving last week. Good prices & food cannot be criticised at all! The fish is cooked as you wait & can have a small fish & request less or more batter & how well cooked it is. You can have the tiniest portion of chips if you prefer or the standard huge portion. Very flexible in their menu. Also, worth mentioning that our family ordered recently from their new breakfast menu before going on a walk as .....wow, just wow! So inexpensive but beautifully cooked & not greasy or over cooked. Everything fresh. Also do wraps & other lovely salads & to die for brownies & cookies. You can even eat in if passing by on a walk.Pity it’s not right in the centre of Whaley but is well worth the 2 minute detour! Many thanks to the lovely staff from Anne & family, we’ll be back :-) xx

I looked at reviews from various websites and this seemed to be the 2nd best in the area after Furness Vale but that closed ridiculously early and I was here to watch my beloved Darlington FC thrash New Mills 5-1 in a Monday night match, so needed food before the game. Was pleased to see they cook fish by order but when I came to eat it although the batter was v good the fish was thin and very dry. Chips were good. Not a patch on West Yorks chippies such as Murgatroyds and the 5x Wetherby Whalers, so worthy of only 3 out of 5 and it might easily have been only 2.

The owners, Dennis and Tracy, take real pride in what they do. They also have a 'chip shop in a van' which they take to events. From the van, they provided the catering at our wedding party in our garden a couple of years ago, and people still comment on how good it was. Very highly recommended!
