My partner and I often visit Hackney City Farm which we love, and three or four weekends ago we thought we'd extend our visit with brunch at Frizzante, which looked very appealing in a leafy environment with outdoor tables. All very nice. Unfortunately, weeks later I still feel liked we were totally ripped off, and I would never usually bother to give a bad review but felt I should share our experience so other people can avoid wasting their money on something they could probably make better and certainly cheaper at home. We ordered two drinks and two portions of the halloumi brunch. One of the drinks we got was not what we ordered, but coffee is coffee so never-mind. Our food was the real disappointment. What we were served was one slice of sourdough with a pile of wet, suspicious coloured cold scrambled egg, a meagre portion of underdone halloumi, and three slices of hard unripe avocado, all of which was completely unseasoned. And for this, we were charged £13.50 each... It's not hard to do brunch well. Just salt and pepper would help. When people could choose to spend their cash in any one of many other cafes and restaurants in the area, it was baffling how little effort had gone into these meals at these prices. Even the waiting staff (who to be fair were very attentive) looked uncomfortable asking how our food was. We won't be going back.

Came late on Friday morning for an early brunch on my girlfriends birthday. Was relaxed, with a really nice homely feel. The waiter was a young guy who was attentive, kind and knew his stuff, and gave us pointers on the area and how to get involved in the art classes etc. We had a tofu pesto sandwich and pesto pasta. Both were huge portions, fresh and super tasty. We enjoyed Prosecco and shared a cheesecake. All really nice, arrived well presented. Mostly of young families and kids around, which was totally fine for us but something to consider if you want a quieter meal. Also dog friendly, and she had a lovely time too. Really friendly and nice vibe! Deffs will be back

Allergy issues and Rat issues. We ordered a cocktail as it was my birthday and a coke I ordered and we wait over 30mins for a coke to arrive and the waiter to say they were out of cranberry juice he also said they were out of mint so that was the cosmopolitan and the mojito off the menu so he said he could make a screwdriver with a bit of grenadine so I settled for that another 15mins passes and I'm then presented with a very strange looking drink that honestly looked like a Halloween drink with lumpy red bits down the inside of the glass, I explained that it clearly was not grenadine and if it was there was something very wrong with it. They went back and a man came over I presume the manager, I explained I have years of experience and had run bars and I don't need to taste it to know that was not grenadine, he then said it was strawberry sauce as they were also out of grenadine, for me the fact that they substituted an ingredient without speaking to me again after I had told them I have allergies to many plants and things, some of which are in some cocktails was extremely bad, luckily strawberries is not one of my allergies but it could have been for all they knew, anyway they took the cocktail back and I had a prosecco as a replacement but the did charge for the cocktail, although there was only a matter of pence in the prices, However considering the circumstances I'd have expected then to at least offer a complimentary drink, discount or something out of pure decency but no we were just asked if we wanted the dinner menu, which we politely declined airing on the side of caution. As they switch ingredients in drinks without informing the customer especially after being informed of allergies and I did say I was "highly allergic" to a lot of plants, foods and flowers amongst other things, also my daughter and granddaughter who were with me also have serious nut and avocado allergies. I certainly would not feel confident that there was no cross contamination and we were both certainly not comfortable about eating there at all. Not to mention that while we were sat there we had a wild rat come upto us at the table in the garden, I know it's a garden and they are next to a farm in the city which we had been to but maybe they should consider getting a cat to keep Mr ratty away, as he certainly wasn't fazed by humans. We decided to go elsewhere to celebrate my birthday and we certainly will not be going back there. I will say the rustic garden is quaint and the waiter and waitress were both polite but the service was terrible unfortunately. Infact it was so long that just while waiting for a drink to arrive my daughter had sat for a while then realised her daughter had lost her hat and went back to the farm walked all the way around it come back and then went back again to ask in the shop and cafe to then be told it was near the stables went got it and came back again before her drink of coke arrived, that is how long it took for one drink the cocktail was even longer by another 15 minutes only to go back and I finally got a glass of prosecco after yet another 10 minutes so I waited around an hour for my drink and my daughter over half an hour for her Coke. Also as there are rats a wipeable table cloth would be also something to consider as the raw untreated unpainted or varnished wood is not very hygienic especially outside and Especially when rats actually wee a little all the time,so tables should be wiped down before use.

Used to be a frequent diner there. I prefered the old counter service where you ordered/ paid for your meal then sat down and enjoyed it. Now you have to wait around to catch the attention of the waiter after you had your meal. Also an excuse to put a service charge on top. Won't be returning in a hurry.

Cold scrambled eggs with burnt toast. Cappuccino not extra hot as requested and Americano not very hot either. £28 for one scrambled egg and one with bacon overpriced.

I used to come here regularly when I lived in London, but I haven’t been back for a few years. I’m sad to say the prices have gone up and the level of service has gone down. I know times are hard for everyone lately, but if I’m paying a compulsory 12.5% service charge (which never used to be the case when just getting a coffee or brunch) I would expect attention to detail with service. When I arrived I was told to sit anywhere but no-one brought a menu. The same thing applied to other customers near me who were wandering around trying to find menus. The tables weren’t wiped down and mine was very sticky. I was brought a coffee, but no sugar and had to seek someone out to find sugar. It would be nice if there were cups of water available somewhere nearby. These may seem like trivial things, but it all counts to show whether the staff really care or not, especially as it wasn’t busy at all. It’s not that I care about these details too much, and if the original shabby but quirky vibe of the place remained then it wouldn’t matter. But as the restaurant seems to want to present itself as an upmarket place nowadays, according to the prices and obligatory service charges, then they need to develop their service accordingly. A young guy who served me tried his best to be friendly, but the other staff (especially the lady) seemed very grumpy and acted like they didn’t want to be there, making us feel unwelcome… definitely service without a smile!

Our first visit to this wonderfully quirky, friendly, out-in-the-open restaurant, for brunch. 4 of us had Farmer's Breakfast, (12.50), as good a full breakfast as you'll enjoy anywhere. Coffees, teas, avocado on toast - all delicious, hot and and good value. Dani B looked after us so well: friendly, helpful and unfazed by our barrage of preferences and changes to our meals. Excellent covid measures, well-signed on the corner, and such a wonderful "garden" setting - a myriad of pottted plants, pathways, treesn gloers and shrubs. Not surprising there's no many wild birds here - lovely blackbird song. We loved it here and can't wait to return.

We have eaten here a few times, as it is very local to where we live. We have lived in the area our whole lives, and have always had a connection with the farm. Never had a problem with the service and the food is great, very well run, and very friendly staff. I don’t believe I have ever seen or heard anyone complain!

Tonight this restaurant hosted a party with loud fireworks despite being located on a farm and in a residential area (the much loved Hackney City Farm). We went to ask politely that they end the fireworks so close to the animals. They were drunk and abusive and mocked us for citing concerns for the animals. We called the farm manager. He knew nothing about the party and called them to end the fireworks. It is very disappointing that they did not ask his permission, showed no concern for the animals or neighbourhood, and thought that they were above social gathering law. The farm and the farm shop are wonderful institutions and well worth a visit, but I am sorry to say that I will be boycotting the restaurant until an apology to the farm or a change in management.
