Friary Mill in Plymouth

I love pasties, I also love friary mill pasties. I’m a regular here and can not fault any of the staff, their customer service is always polite cheerful and overall just good. The only issue is there has been multiple times where I’ve purchased a pasty took a bite into it and there’s been nothing but a huge chunk of steak inside, I’m not talking about a little chunk I’m talking about the whole inside of the pasty is just one big ball of steak. I find it happens the most with the cocktail pasties. Not a fault of the staff but just some feedback!

Went into restraunt area and orderded an all daty breakfast When it arrived it was well cooked with all items cooked fresh and with toast with lashings of butter. A well presented and cooked meal which took less than 10 minutes. My wife had freshly cooked chips which were very hot.

Si los dedos de pescado hubieran sido de mejor calidad y se hubieran servido en un rollo con mantequilla, ¡habría sido muy diferente! Además, había muy poco personal visible. El mostrador y la vitrina estaban vacíos de comida en el restaurante, por lo que parecía poco interesante y la comida parecía ser cocinada por una persona como y cuando se solicitaba. Llamo aquí regularmente para bollos y pasteles. La calidad de la comida es excepcional, los bollos son ligeros y sabrosos y no iría a ninguna otra panadería. También he desayunado aquí, que tiene una buena relación calidad-precio. El servicio es muy bueno y el personal es amable. ¡Los precios de todo son buenos también! ¡Todos los Friary Mills son limpios e higiénicos, puedes ver que el personal trabaja arduamente para lograr esto!

I like that there is lots of seating/table area in this cafe and can see that they aim for the fine line between quality and offering produce at a reasonable price. It has always frustrated me that in Plymouth the average customer expects an over-sized product at a really low price. Quality always suffers as a result. Friary Mill tries to find a happy medium

I think there’s been a cafe here since this unit was built just up from Dingles more than half a century ago. Friary Mill with its main factory out at cattle down provides a consistent standard and range of everyday pasties, rolls and buns/cake etc. Prices feel just a little over average for Plymouth. Provides a functional basic takeaway and sit down service for shoppers and those waiting for constant hoards of buses. Might grab something to take out if in a great hurry. Plymouth badly needs a quality speedy made to order doorstep and baguette shop. I wouldn’t come to a Friary shop/cafe by preference.

Having been in last year, while visiting in Plymouth, decided a repeat visit would be ideally suited. We only wanted a "quick bite" sandwich sort of meal and this suits that specification wellHot "Specials" are available at lunch times, but we did not require that, there is also very tempting looking take away food, such as pasties [of course], filled rolls, cakes and the like, but we wanted to sit & eat. There is ample sitting area at the rear, the front is mainly takeaway & display food counter for the walk-in trade. The shop is adjacent to main bus stops so one could assume there is plenty of walk in & take away tradeWe were mid afternoon, so the main lunchtime diners had gone by the time we arrived, which gave us a choice of seating.I chose from display at the front, pork & stuffing roll, companion opted for fried egg bapYou order from counter & food is brought to your numbered tableBoth our options were nice, the egg bap was of course freshly prepared, mine was from front counter. While there we noted the staff knew many of the customers, so I assume there are regulars who use this place, which is always a guide I thinkStaff were polite & helpful, tables were clean & tidy, no crumbs, dirty cups etc left aroundOne we will return to next time in Plymouth
