Food was tasty with good vegetarian options. Service quick and friendly. Lovely garden seating area available. Looks nothing from the outside, worth finding though!

Amazing place. Little known fact, the owner is there most nights, working right alongside her staff. Excellent place, incredible vibes and moorish food. Could do with more veggie options though, a girl can only eat so many garden burgers!

Been going to Free State for years, an I nearly always order the same thing! The buffalo wings an the double french onion burger (the dfob!), both are sooo good! Aw the dfob, its like 2 or 3 meals all wrapped into one burger, there is nowhere else were you can get a burger like that! The french fries are lovely too! Pretty average restaurant with average food that went cold within 2 minutes, took ages to bring the bill after we asked so we had to go ask for a second time. Not much rosemary salt on the fries either

Went to celebrate my son's birthday, service was really good, all staff were super friedly and accomodated for little birthday cake. Food was ver nice, the burgers there are fantastic. The outdoor space is very nice, especially on a nice day. Highly recommended

I've been coming to Free State Kitchen regularly for the past 12 years and I've never had anything less than a fantastic experience. Kate and Gary have have always run a friendly, welcoming restaurant that serves truly my the best burgers that I've ever had; without resorting to hyperbole, I've tested many and have just never had better than FSK! The restaurant itself is cosy and nestles within an expansive garden courtyard, which features a snug tent in the winter and is a beautiful garden in the summer (where they also grow food for their menu), and also serves a nice variety of amazing desserts and delicious drinks. All in all, I feel like coming to FSK is a necessary fixture of my trips home to Liverpool and wish everybody there many more years of success.

Free State has always been a firm favourite for my partner and I. We recently came this weekend for a big group dinner with kids. The staff were amazing. Service, as always was great. Food, as always was amazing, everyone had a great time. Best wings in the UK!

Must stop for those visiting Liverpool! 5 stars for service, atmosphere and food. Everything we had was wonderful. As Texans we have a far share of wings. Free state kitchens wings have joined our top three wings ever. Highly recommend getting them. I wish I stopped here last time I was in Liverpool as this is a great match day meal.

This is the best casual dining restaurant in Liverpool by a mile. Incredible burgers, service and atmosphere. The iconic chicken wings are the best I’ve ever eaten. Been visiting for many years and now regularly visit with our young daughter who absolutely loves it too. The staff are brilliant with her and overall are so friendly. Keep up the great work FSK!

Very rare you eat something in a place and it compels you to write a valentines love letter to it. FSK chicken wings do that! I treat them like a loved one. But let’s not forget the burgers! From a classic cheese burger to the indulgent double french onion burger, 10/10 all over the board! From Thanksgiving events, to a first date with partner, to us visiting with our daughter on her first trip to a restaurant, annual Christmas meals in the yurt and aperol spritz’s in the summer garden. Free State Kitchen and Kate have fully stamped their mark on our family and friends (and stomachs). We’re so lucky to have such a place in Liverpool and it’s one I won’t take for granted

THE best burger in the city. I’ve been going for years and we’ve had many a special occasion there, birthdays, first dates. Anniversary’s, our baby’s first restaurant visit, 16ths, annual Xmas do’s, you name it we’ve been there. Kate and the staff are always a dream, the food is excellent and the drinks to match. We can never fault. It’s more than a burger joint, it’s a Liverpool institution!

Free State has been by far the best burger in Liverpool since it first opened its doors around 10 years ago. Honestly my favourite restaurant in Liverpool. The people are lovely, been going for years. The burgers are amazing, portion sizes are great, even down to the chips are special and the chicken wings are honestly out of this world!! (Can’t have them anywhere else) Can’t recommend the place highly enough. A must try especially in the summer garden ☀️

Have been going to FSK for years and it consistently delivers the best burger in liverpool. Their beer garden is fabulous in spring / summer and their snug was the perfect spot for a gathering organised in winter. The staff are always attentive and as a bonus they are both child and dog friendly

Always a pleasure dining at FSK. Been so many times, taken international visiting teachers, been for family birthday meals and for lunches and dinners with friends, we always receive brilliant service, delicious food served to perfection and there's always a welcoming atmosphere with the friendliest team. Highly recommend a visit whenever you're in town or have guests your hosting in the city.

Buena comida y bebidas, sin embargo, toda la experiencia fue un poco fuera debido a que el restaurante era muy frío. Era incómodo y las puertas del jardín se abrían y cerraban constantemente debido a una fiesta en la yurta exterior. Estaba báltico por dentro y estábamos muy contentos de mudarnos al pub Philharmonic para calentar.

Gran comida y gran servicio, sin duda volvería. La hamburguesa doble de ajo que comí estaba deliciosa y algunos de los mejores aros de cebolla que he probado.

Venimos a la Free State Kitchen casi siempre que venimos a Liverpool, especialmente cuando vamos a conciertos en el cercano Philharmonic Hall. Las hamburguesas son invariablemente excelentes. The Garden Burger was excellent; It came with good portion size, and great sauces. The cheesecake was good but not exceptional. The atmosphere and service was spot on!

We loved our lunch at Free State Kitchen! We wandered in on spec, and were seated quickly, and given the lunch menu. The chowder was excellent, and the sourdough was very tasty. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and we left very happy. A lovely little restaurant with a really nice vibe - a hidden gem.

We booked the winter snug for my partners 50th birthday and it was out of this world. Kate was on hand to sort everything and went above and beyond, there was nothing too much trouble. Went in sceptical of this place. There are too many burger places making wacky burger creations with far too many fillings. So when I got the Double beef burger form here I was pleased at the simplicity of the burger and impressed by the quality ingredients. Although it was a big burger, it wasn’t one of those that likes to immediately disassemble after you pick it up. Really enjoyed all the food here and will recommend to any burger enthusiast.

Unplanned .. but wonderful 👏 A family reunion , we had intended to have Chinese meal. Popped into this very homely busy American bistro. No one apart from myself had been before. After drinks in the lovely garden .. yep .. a garden in the city .. starting to think about food .. we all agreed, why go anywhere else after studying the fantastic menu. There were 7 of us .. and all of us chose different dishes, .. everything on all our plates was 😋 delicious . Many thanks to all the brilliant, smiley, friendly , ultra busy staff for accommating us. La carne en las hamburguesas es de muy buena calidad y toda la comida estaba deliciosa. No pude resistirme a tener una tarta de queso de postre - excelente, por supuesto. El personal es agradable y eficiente. Es un pequeño restaurante genial. Solo espero que algún día vayamos cuando haga buen tiempo y podamos sentarnos en el jardín.

Liverpool burger restaurant. The portion is so large that I can't eat it all by myself.

Me and my boyfriend just had a meal there it was highly recommended to me so we just had to go and try it, and it did not disappoint, the starters where lovely and the garden was beautiful with a great vibe and great music, loved every song and the service was amazing everyone was just so nice, loved the place and will definitely be returning x

arrived here late on a Friday evening to grab dinner with a party of around 15 of us the kitchen was due to close but they did squeeze us in. the hostess was firm and efficient not overly friendly, and I opted for the sweetcorn chowder and coleslaw sides. The food did take some time to arrive however the soup was delicious very thick and creamy. I was less keen on a coleslaw sides which was rather bland. nice little venue. It was cute indoor small space and good value. forgot to take some photos

Hay hamburguesas, luego hay "HAY HAMBURGUESAS", no se equivoquen, estas están en una clase propia, probé el especial que incluía hongos crema y no decepcionó. Mi esposa comió la ensalada Ceasar con Anchoas extra y eso fue igualmente especial, en comparación con la escoria que normalmente se obtiene en Liverpool. FSK es sin duda mi "Go Too" para Hamburguesas. Las papas fritas que vienen con la Hamburguesa, tenían un toque de Romero, y estaban deliciosos. Dale un golpe a este lugar que no decepcionará y btw, si alguna cosa no está bien con su comida, dígale al personal, que son increíblemente serviciales.

A jem of a place, love the garden on a sunny day. Often pop in for a couple of pints when in the area, to get away from the hustle and bustle of town. Friendly staff.

So disappointing. Me and my partner are big fans of good food and had been to FSK before but this was simply not even in the realm of tasty let alone good food. I’m sorry people of FSK, but this was just actually tasteless. You asked how we wanted the burger cooked we both said medium, I got well well done and dry and my partner got medium well at best. The bun was dry and tasted stale, so it wasn’t eaten. The beef, was mildly flavourful, but totally overpowered by the awful off brand ketchup and overpowering mustard all over the burger. Waitress forgot three things from our order: The whole experience was just simply disappointing.

Lemon larger is lovely on a summer day, very refreshing, barbecue burger and chicken wings very tasty What makes this place special more than anything is the relaxed atmosphere. Staff make you feel like you just pop around to your friends for food Great food you can get in a lot of places nowadays Great food, relaxed atmosphere, and staff that actually make you feel welcome is rather rare in my experience Please give this place a try. Garden is a hidden gem and adds to ensuring a relaxing, enjoyable family meal. Tables had umbrellas to protect from the sun (we were lucky to have visited on a lovely summer evening). Good choice of drinks - beers from local breweries including Glen affryic (Birkenhead) and Black lodge (just down the road) and a few others which was good. Food was much better than expected; asked how I wanted my burger (went for medium) and the chips were (in my daughter’s words) the best she’s EVER had. Look at the photo you can see how great they look. We ordered onion rings - biggest I’ve ever seen and so nice. Coleslaw was freshly made which is a refreshing change from bought fake coleslaw. Fresh coleslaw so much nicer. Staff were polite and it was a lovely end to the day. Will definitely visit again and recommend you visit.

Came here for dinner with a vegan friend, the main was perfect for both of us and came reasonably quick with sides. The dessert was also amazing and lots of different burger options to try!

I'm a regular customer and always go for the corn chowder. I've had many chowders in this place which was always amazing and this is the reason Im coming back here. I have to say today I had the worst chowder ever. Uncooked veggies, too much salt (it's OK to add less salt so customers can add salt themselves) and sand like soup consistency. If I knew who was cooking it today I would avoid coming to eat here when the person is on his/her shift. Usually amazing, today really bad.

Finest beer garden in Liverpool, hands down. Trees, greenery, fine beers and spritz. We were looked after by a lovely lady with a big butterfly tattoo, she looked after us and tended to all our whims. Hot day in liverpool? Book yourself a table. It’s class *****

Very clean and with a fresh USA style ambiance. Pleasant staff, lovely chowder style soup and a special burger, fresh and succulent. A minor mistake on the serving was corrected quickly, friendly and politely. It was really an excellent experience overall. I highly recommend this place!!

The garden area was lovely; inside the restaurant, it was too noisy for hearing-impaired people. The staff were friendly; the food was mediocre. £13 veggie burger with a small portion of sweet potato fries. It was great value for money, and the burger was cold. I didn't bother to complain. I am coeliac and really struggle eating out - I can not recommend this place more!! Honestly I almost cried when I was told I had a *choice* of beers. The waiters were clearly very informed of the allergen options and I felt confident with their recommendations. Beyond that the food was really lovely, and can’t beat the atmosphere on a sunny day!! 10/10 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The way I discovered this place was quite unusual, I was in the Arts bar in Hope St next door and they had a small outside area you can sit in. When I looked over the balcony I saw people drinking in this lovely garden opposite. So I went looking for it. Found the entrance in Maryland St. You would never know it was there from the outside. I believe it used to be a convent previously. Anyway it's a great place to have a pint and get a suntan at the same time in the summer. They even have a handy bar in the garden. Well worth a visit as there's not a lot of bars in Liverpool with a large garden like this place.

Amazing garden tucked round the back from this cool little spot. There’s plenty of seating, space and lots of greenery. There’s even an outdoor bar! Table service is a nice touch too. Would definitely recommend for sunny weather!

Edit: May 2024 I just love this place. The double french onion burger is iconic, I must have eaten more than 50 times over the past decade and it's simply the best burger you can buy in Liverpool, truly sensational! It's not just the burgers though, the fries are spot on, the drinks selection is ace with local beers available, the buffalo chicken wings are just perfect and the specials are always interesting. What I especially value is that the staff are without good eggs! I love this place, it's the most consistently excellent restaurant in Liverpool. Original review: The double french onion burger is a magnificent creation, truly a wonder to behold! Add bacon!

Delicious vegan and vegetarian burgers freshly made with amazing onion rings all made to order. Lovely staff beautiful setting in the secret garden tucked away off hope street. Came here as part of a stag doo and have to say the service was excellent! Food was served quickly and tasted unreal👌🏻 drinks were also served timely while we sat in the beer garden at the back. Would definitely recommend for larger parties 🎉

Have been here just for drinks before but had food for the first time last night, I had the burger on special with a gluten free bun (Quite a lot of the menu is suitable for gluten intolerance or adaptable) The burger was really tasty and juicy and the bun was really good quality and texture, not too stodgy. The staff are lovely here too, really friendly and genuine. Will definitely be back for food again!

Possibly my 10th visit to this place, and it never lets you down. The burgers are first class, meat is excellent, cooked perfectly The bun is another level. I had the Santa Clara burger and it was fit. The service and staff are always really chatty and friendly and know all about the food and are with you on this visit. Not just some personality, less waiter, putting food down and walking off. They noticed things like empty glasses and ask would you like another drink - you do feel like you’re being looked after. Excellent and can falter thing. The fact we didn’t have enough cash to leave in real decent tip which was well deserved hence, we are leaving this review of how fabulous it was.. thanks and see you again.

We just love this place! The food is always great, the drinks selection is spot on (alcohol and non-alcoholic), the place is clean and cosy inside and fresh and spacious outside. It has got to be our favourite eating out place in Liverpool and is our go-to place when taking out visitors or guests to town. My four year old son exclaimed that the sticky sausages are "the best sausages he's ever had!" The staff are always so wonderful too, so sweet and helpful. Update: Still coming here whenever we can and it's still the same top standard as always. Staff were so lovely to our son and the food was as delicious as ever. The handmade blueberry cheesecake was divine! Welcoming, quick and such good food. Love it! Another update! Amazing as always - burgers cooked to perfection and taste delicious.
