Fredericks in Southampton

Both our sandwiches were wrong. How difficult is it? You tell me. When we complained, the manager was all about, "drama." He needs some training before getting into hospitality. Ridiculous.

What a perfect place to visit. Our chicken toastie was freshly made, the mocha was yummy dark chocolate and we also got ourself a couple of hand-made hedgehog shaped bonbon treats, handed over in very cute gift package. Loved being there, thank you :)

Mi hija y yo fuimos a un taller de chocolate el sábado 28 de diciembre. Lo recomendaría completamente. Tuvimos una tarde encantadora y divertida aprendiendo a hacer trufas, templar chocolate y hacer ganache. El propietario y el personal fueron muy amables y tuvieron la ventaja de llevar nuestras trufas a casa en una caja encantadora. Una gran experiencia

He estado yendo aquí por meses y nunca decepciona! El personal es muy amable y servicial. Solo he tenido pasteles y bebidas hasta ahora, pero me aseguraré de probar sus chocolates caseros cuando el clima sea más fresco. Es raro encontrar lugares que vendan pasteles adecuados en estos días, y aunque estos no son caseros, no sentirás la diferencia. Sigan con el buen trabajo y definitivamente lo recomiendo.

Primera visita a Southampton y decidimos visitar una tienda de dulces en el camino hacia el aparcamiento. Encontré esta joya. No me malinterpreten, este no es un lugar donde tienen todos los dulces bajo el sol, pero lo que hacen que hagas es muy bienvenido y valorado. La maravillosa dama que me sirvió fue fabulosa. Muy feliz y genial con los clientes. Soy el tipo que le gustaba comer limones crudos, pero no pude poner uno de sus dulces amargos en mi boca por más de 2 segundos. ¡Nos veremos de nuevo!

I visited Fredericks while visiting the shopping centre and it seems to be a long-standing staple of the place. After speaking to the staff, I learned that they're celebrating an anniversary year and to mark the occasion were selling a changing 'special' item at the original selling price from years ago. I took advantage of this special offer - foam bananas on the day I visited - and also bought some of their specialty chocolates and sweets to take out. There is a great deal of variety with an emphasis on traditional sweets, and it really feels like a classic sweet shop. The crafted chocolates are also very impressive! There's a great selection, the staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable, so it's worth a visit!

How have I managed to miss Fredericks for so many years? Jan hand-makes the chocolates she sells - and her lemon creation is to DIE for! We went along for a girlie chocolate making workshop this week and had a fantastic 4 hours learning about balancing flavours and tempering and about chocolate from the 'bean to the bar' and had a great day, coming home with a box of truffles of our own creation (which I have just been scoffing and they are great). Jan is wonderful and welcomed us into her work space - not a fancy-pants classroom but her private world of chocolate creation - to share her experience and tricks of the trade, but sadly not the recipe to her amazing lemon chocolates! We had a fantastic day, and I would recommend the experience to anyone who will listen! Oh and I ate sooooooooo much chocolate, I thought I might actually pop. I left craving a nice, green salad...but don't worry the feeling wore off :-)

I have been here before, and rated it highly. Sadly, standards have dropped perhaps due to the British all-too-common disease of complacency. The assistant who served me, whom I quote when I say "just works here", was as sour as lemon sherbert. The cakes were nice, but factory-made and mass produced, if the staff don't have the time to make them, don't sell them! The cream on the hot chocolate was canned spray-cream, full of gas additives. Not nice at all, and I can only assume it was that which sand-papered the back of my throat when I drank the mug, sorry glass with a handle, of milk hot chocolate which cost me far more than the equivalent at a high-street coffee shop chain, and was of no superior quality. If you are tempted, keep walking, better value and a customer experience can be obtained from a high-street chain coffee shop upstairs (just take the lift behind you).

Friendly family run cafe in a shopping mall. Incredible range of interesting home made chocolates. Good selection of old fashioned sweets. Then we also have a very good 'coffee bar'. The cakes, sandwiches and snacks are all freshly made and very reasonable priced. Altogether a cafe well worth visiting.

If you like chocolate, you will LOVE this place. A small, family-run business which makes its own chocolate. Enjoy a mug of hot chocolate (lots of varieties) or coffee or even tea, plus some chocolate, a cake or fudge to eat with it. Not cheap, but quality rarely is! Chances are you will walk past and not even see this place, that's great it's unpretentious, and just a superb oasis in the hustle of a busy Saturday afternoon in the middle of Southampton's main shopping zone.

Found by accident and we had lunch. Staff are so friendly and polite. Food excellent quality and well priced. The hot chocolate is among the best I've had. Truly recommended.

Visited here with friends and the drinks were lovely but omg what poor customer service by the woman with glasses and short brown hair was so rude. She grunted as she took my order snatched the money out of my hand and threw me the change!!!! Never going back no matter how nice the drinks were

omg you must try this place!! they do the best hot chocolate there using real chocolate and have their own handmade chocolates and cake to buy and sample. the sandwiches are lovely there is a sofa at the back in the seated area as well as seating outside the shop in the marlands and they do chocolate making courses too! lovely lovely place would rather go here than any costas or starbucks!

love this place tucked away in the marlands! seated area at back great menu for sandwiches and snacks and their homemade chocs and cakes are to die for! they have their own hot choc mix which is really nice! i am a regular here. they also do choc making courses here.

Been coming here since its been open! Love it! Best place to for all sorts of sweets and chocolate! The milkshakes and hot chocolates are the best!

great little cafe. I've been going to Fred's for years now and the service and atmosphere is always top notch. Highly recommended.

The most amazing coffee shop always get greeted with a smiley face the owner jan bennett makes her own chocolates she has stuff in to deal with all diet requirements such as gluten free and dairy free

Really friendly welcoming, staff are always happy to help. Excellent service. I would recommend this coffee shop when visiting Southampton.
