Frangipani in Cheltenham

Good curry, friendly and helpful staff in a central Cheltenham location. I loved the decor and the prices are really reasonable so I can’t understand why half the tables were empty in a Saturday night.

This is the third time we have eaten here and the food has always been excellent along with the service. The dishes are always flavoursome and fresh tasting.

I visited this hidden gem in the summer with a friend. It was one of the best meals I have ever had! I have been meaning to come back as soon as possible! I took my family on a Sunday for the buffet. Good selection of curries, rice, naan, starters and dessert. Amazing flavours, fabulous staff, I can’t recommend this place enough. One of my all time favourite restaurants. Cant wait to come back! ⭐️

Decided to give Frangipani a try based on the positive reviews here. Ordered a takeaway for delivery on a Friday evening. The food was plentiful, tasty and reasonably priced. The delivery was slightly earlier than we booked, but that wasn’t a problem. This will be our new “go to” for an Indian takeaway….

We had a works function and the food was lovely even catering on a large scale...we all had a lovely evening and would definitely go back.

I went with my friend for my birthday meal and the food was to die for. We went around 7pm and we were the only ones there whilst a lot of takeaways were collected throughout our visit. I had a lamb coconut curry with a 2 chili rating and my spice tolerance is quite good so I personally wouldn’t have described it as spicey but I loved it so much when I left I ordered a take away of the same to take home to my boyfriend as well as some amazing onions bahjis. The dining experience was top quality and I will definitely be returning and ordering many takeaways from this place

Make sure you make the effort to find this place. Really great decor, friendly helpful staff and the food was wonderful. We enjoyed a lovely evening and definitely will return when back in the town.

Came here on a week night, we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and superb service. I married into a Pakistani family so I find it hard to come by a nice “authentic” curry house when I come home. This place hit the nail on the head, food was fresh, authentic and absolutely delicious. Very reasonably priced too. Can’t wait to come back.

The place is a hidden gem... food was amazing and the service too. Had visited a long time ago but thought I would revisit. It is a lovely place with the best food all of us were happy with the different choices.

Having read 2 previous reviews, I wasn't expecting much from my delivery. How wrong was I, Muttar Paneer, perfectly golden paneer, plenty of sweet peas and delicious sauce. Lamb Biryani with a mixed vegetable curry, once again, well spiced and tasty. I have to add, that the vegetable curry which accompanied the biryani was particularly good. All in all, an excellent meal.

We were mooching around Cheltenham looking for somewhere nice to eat after a concert at The Cheltenham Music Festival when we happened upon The Frangipani Spice Lounge. The amazing smells coming from inside drew us in - with some degree of enthusiasm. The rather unglamorous entrance is a complete contrast to the inside of the restaurant. It has been recently decorated to a calm and comfortable atmosphere. The music is really lovely too. There is a large varied menu with interesting bits of information about the recipes which is a nice touch. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We were rather late eating so it was a bit quieter and Mo, the owner and chef, came out for a chat. Listening to him talking about his cooking, it was perfectly clear why the food was so exceptionally good. He cooks everything from fresh and he uses fresh ingredients. Fresh ingredients together with Mo's passion for cooking are the secret to the success of this fabulous restaurant. We were made so welcome and had a fabulous meal

Had dinner here last night. Service was friendly. However, the food wasn’t brilliant, both chicken curry dishes were ok but not very flavoursome. The popadums were fresh but the dips were very different to other curry places.

A bit tricky to find from the back street but when we were on the main road and saw the sign it was so obvious ... So, Saturday night, us, another couple, and a group of about 12 young people. And they'd had a few. And to be honest they were pretty lairy. Normally this is my nightmare, but as they got more ridiculously loud and rude to each other ... the mood changed, especially after the "dead cat" tattoo incident. Anyway, as they were leaving they bought us a bottle of prosecco and apologised for their language - "we're builders, and that's how we talk". Onto the food. We had onion bhajias (classic, pretty good, perhaps a bit crispy) and paneer, then okra (achari bindi- pleasant enough but a bit hard to distinguish what was what) and a saag paneer side [I can eat a lot of paneer] and a lamb curry and an aloo gobi. All perfectly good, tasty and spicy, served well. The slightly older gentleman helping with service was great - friendly, informed, and interested to know what we did for a living, and delighted that there was an overlap between what we do (he has a job elsewhere too!). He and his mate, off to a local club after serving, what excellent advertisements for fellas in their 60s! If you go to FSL off the back of the review, ask them their views about teaching algebra in schools!

We had dinner at this place last weekend. Although the chef and the staff are good but I didnt find the portion size good enough to justify a 7.something pound starter. For vegetable platter they just gave 3 different indian starters which were okay . In the main course We tried dal tarka with steam rice which was good but the mutter paneer was very sweet in taste. Was overall a bit okay experience compared to other restaurants we had dined in.

A very warm and friendly welcome from the owners who provided a very efficient and personal service. The restaurant has a lovely cosy atmosphere and everything has a nice personal touch, it was really nice to have beautiful crockery and the food served in matching bowls rather than the usual rather sterile metal dishes you often see. The food was excellent with a great selection of dishes that you won’t find in your run of the mill Indian restaurant. I really couldn’t fault it, 5 out of 5 stars 😊

Overall a pretty mediocre experience. Firstly they put water in the table and such a tiny label on it (easy to miss) saying "not complimentary", this seemed pretty sleazy. I had onion bhaji for starter, it was overcooked and dry - basically just crumbled apart when I cut it. Lamb curry for main which was ok but nothing special. Service wasn't too bad and staff seemed friendly.

Just found this place on deliveroo, it said 35% off! Unfortunately there’s a reason why it’s so cheap(avoid this place like the plague) . Utterly dreadful. Appalling service. Dreary outdated food that all tasted as though it had been reheated. Dips with unnatural colours. £7 bottle of wine sold at £40. Bottles of water placed on table with tiny unreadable stickers (see picture) which apparently state " not complimentary " but are charged at £5 per bottle, if opened unknowingly. I cannot understand why an Indian restaurant is named Frangipane, but frangiscam would be more appropriate. Avoid for your own benefit please.

Excellent food, and good to see different dishes you rarely see . A good blend of spices. Our mains were perhaps among the best we have experienced outside India Busy. Service was a bit disjointed and slow hence the lack of "excellent" marking.

We were a party of five, and it was our first time dining there. Ambience was just right. The staff were all lovely, very attentive but not intrusive. They were very happy to help and advise as we were newbies. The food was absolutely delicious. We all had chicken based dishes, and without fail we all commented on how tender and tasteful our meals were. It may have been our first visit but it certainly won’t be our last.

We ate dinner last sunday night and it was delicious. We found it by luck as we were in the area and fancied an Indian meal. So we just googled and decided to book a table and it did not disappoint! We love Indian food but haven't been in an Indian restaurant in so long it was really nice to finely go to one! The food was delicious and the lady and chef were really kind! I highly recommend!

Me and my partner went here to celebrate her 18th birthday. The staff could not have been more welcoming. The food was wonderful, and they even offered a complimentary dessert for her birthday. I cannot praise the service and food enough. The interior was also beautifully decorated! Will definitely be coming again - wonderful hidden spot!

Ordered an Indian takeaway from this here this evening and WOW! It is so hard to find a delicious Indian takeaway that really delivers on taste across the board. We had the Korma which was the best we have had from a takeaway, a touch spicier than a normal one but that made it so tasty! the saag aloo was so tasty too! We have definitely found our new Indian takeaway! Look forward to when we can visit the restaurant itself to try some more of your wonderful menu! Highly recommend to anyone, super fast delivery also.

Best Indian restaurants with al fresco dining.

Based on impressive menu and good reviewers ordered dinner for 3 spending £50. Hot food was delivered in 30min. We had potato spinach tikki for starter. Had to use 8 kitchen towels to suck out all the ghee/oil. The taste was ok. Had to tip over the ghee/oil from the curries. The look was disgusting. This is in spite of requesting to use minimum ghee/oil and make it spicy with green chillies. Actually the curries were sweet. Overall a very bad experience. This is definitely not good Indian food. There are much better and authentic Indian restaurants in Cheltenham. Not going to order again from this place.
