An Exceptional Pub, Despite One Man’s Appalling Beer Decision The moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in an atmosphere of festive warmth and charm. The twinkling fairy lights, the carefully curated décor, and the smell of quality ale wafting from the bar all create a truly magical experience. The staff are a credit to the establishment, effortlessly balancing efficiency and friendliness, while the beer selection caters to every palate—from the adventurous to the traditional. This is a pub where memories are made. But unfortunately, not all memories are pleasant. Enter the offender: the man who decided to order six pints of Guinness in a pub that practically begs you to try something new. Yes, I’m talking about you, sir—the man in the flannel shirt, pictured here with an expression that screams, “Yes, I am the problem.” This is a pub that offers a wealth of options. A pub with character, creativity, and craft at its core. And yet, when faced with a glorious lineup of ales, lagers, and seasonal specials, this man—a living embodiment of wasted potential—chose Guinness. Again. At every pub. His decision has the tragic inevitability of a bad sequel: predictable, unnecessary, and downright disappointing. To make matters worse, his choice wasn’t even for himself alone. No, this man took it upon himself to drag his friends down with him, ordering a round of six Guinnesses like some self-appointed arbiter of bland conformity. Who does that? Who looks at a menu brimming with possibilities and says, “Nah, we’ll just have what we always have”? I’ll tell you who: a man whose spirit of adventure has been thoroughly extinguished by the weight of his own bad habits. Dear sir, your Guinness obsession has become a metaphor for everything that’s wrong with modern drinking habits: safe, predictable, and devoid of imagination. To the pub: I salute you. Your establishment is a triumph—a beacon of quality in an otherwise uninspired world. The staff handled this man’s Guinness debacle with grace, serving him and his friends without a hint of judgement, despite the sheer absurdity of his order. To the offender: next time, look around. Try something seasonal. Be bold. Because if I have to watch you order another Guinness, I might just lose my faith in humanity entirely.

Gone a bit downhill. They pack the tables in too close so its quite uncomfortable. I'm still a staunch supporter but give people a little space. The prices seem to have gone up, and portion size has gone down, i appreciate this is the new world, but their pasta is a little toppy.

It was a very enjoyable experience going there for the first time with friends before a concert: comfortable, with food beer and a good atmosphere. My only issue was when I bought a round. I asked the bar person to top up the glasses because, by the time I had paid, the heads had disappeared and there was less than a pint in each glass. They were not happy and said that the empty space was the head, with which I politely disagreed, as I take the CAMRA line on drinkers getting what they pay for. If I visited again I would only buy bottled drinks. I realize this is a wider issue effecting more than one establishment, but I didn't want meekly to accept less than I had paid for, no matter what other drinkers were happy with.

A proper gem. Traditional London pub, 2 ales on pump, all the usual lagers, good wine list, and really good food. Had our table for five hours! Does fill up on a Saturday evening ( when we were leaving as we were there for lunch!), but no hurry up from the staff. Next time I’m up that way, I will definitely visit again.

The front of house staff were lovely but the food was not on point this evening, the medium rare steaks were very rare indeed and they’d not bothered to take the skin off the grilled red onion before serving it. The front of house team did all they can to rectify the situation and replaced the steaks with a better cooked one and took two drinks off the bill so given this and the good reviews from others hopefully just an off day for the kitchen team.

I’ve been to The Fox and Hounds many times for reunions. Normally it’s too noisy for older ears, but we were lucky enough to get a quieter Sunday afternoon. The service was excellent- courteous and helpful. We didn’t need to go to the bar for drinks. One minor problem is that my food was too salty and the gazpacho and the tomato sauce which my sea bass sat upon bore a suspicious resemblance to one another. A more major problem is that there are no main course vegan options, so one of us, knowing this in advance, went without lunch. To finish on a positive note, the Galician white wine was delicious and we enjoyed retiring to the delightful little pub garden ( provided with pretty fierce overhead wall heaters) for further drinks.

All was absolutely fantastic...terrific food, great atmosphere, really nice staff; an all round really good night until the stroppy cow of a manager (?) came up to me in an overly zealous manner to tell me to "keep my dog on a lead". Bearing in mind my JRT had been sitting on my lap all night and was only on the floor for a minute or two so I could say goodbye to my friends, I thought it was totally unnecessary, as did my friends. I wonder if she is equally as unaccepting of parents with their children who are generally FAR worse??? Only reason I didn't give 5 stars.

It is a sad fact that in recent years I have had increasingly few occasions to without fault, all out eulogise about a dining experience. So....oh the joy. The unbridled joy to without reservation both eulogise and find zero fault with my fortuitous booking at the Fox and Hounds this evening. Firstly, why fortuitous? I'm local and have been to the F&H before. Vowed never to go again but laziness won the day and I walked the 3 mins to give it another go Secondly, why the joy? I spent childhood summers at my grandparents house in a rural Spanish village called Jesus Pobre. An area where a new born child goes straight from breast to paella. The paella I had this evening was akin to any of those I had as a child in JP. Thirdly, why the unbridled joy? Two words. The staff. Professional, helpful and polite all qualities one hopes for but should never expect from a high end food focused pub. The staff in the F&H were so professional, so helpful, so polite but above all of that and singularly the main reason why I will be returning again and again is how naturally charming they all were. The tip culture in the US so often sees charm replaced by obsequious, the service included trend we have in the UK so often sees no charm at all. So not the case here.

Has this place changed hands or manager in the last year? It used to be one of my absolute favourites but in my last three visits I’ve had a really uncharacteristically odd and bad experience. 1) We went in the late summer last year and ordered the steak - which I have many times and has always been very good. We were served two steaks that openly (not sensationalising) were past their best. It had been the heat wave for the few days previous and this led me to believe refrigeration has been an issue. We sent them back and were refunded but no one came to apologise or speak to us. I was about to do so myself when there was a car crash outside - quite a bad one. So we left to allow the staff to deal with that. After this experience I avoided going for a couple of months but did want to return due to being a favourite. 2) not as bad but I went mid week and most of the beers were out of stock. 3) I went last week and the Guinness had been connected to the wrong gas, my pint was freezing, and the head massive. The chap at the bar was nice tried to correct it by pouring it out but once Guinness is over gassed you cannot serve it - my pint was flat and freezing so I left it. Posting this mainly so the owner can see as it was our local but currently going elsewhere. It is an expensive pub and the last three visits have not been inline with those prices.

Really delicious menu with seasonal variation (vegetarians will get a bit tired of the risotto / lack of rotation on the alternative dietary front) - great service and a nice atmosphere in the evenings. The Fox and Hounds Clapham Junction The first thing to note is the chef has a visceral hatred of vegetarians and takes pride in this prejudice by creating menus that are lumpish and unimaginative. This is not a place where chef cherishes good traditional values, it’s more a place chef is stuck in his abrasive, curmudgeonly ways. It is neither fish nor fowl, neither a pub or a restaurant. As a restaurant the atmosphere is soulless and desperate. The dead hand of the restaurant’s miserable menu pushes down and suffocates the place of all life, and empties your wallet at the same time. The overpriced drinks just reinforce the falseness of the place. On offer is pasteurised, mega brewery homogenised ‘craft beers’ and a wine list that pretends to Wine Society quality, it is not, it’s overpriced plonk. It’s not really a pub either, gastro or otherwise. Drinking in the place is more a prison sentence than a nice pint in the local. You’d have more fun sitting in a vandalised bus shelter drinking a can of Stella. The reputations of London gastropubs are made by the chefs, who are quite happy to put their names out there. The chef at The Fox & Hounds doesn’t have the courage to put his name to his miserable menu. His secretiveness is intellectually dishonest. I asked the manager who the chef was and they piously told me “We can’t give out staff names because of data protection” (Huh?) I think the owners of the pub are trying to create some ersatz Bullingdon Club dining experience, and who doesn’t want to be part of the Bullingdon Club what with those foppish outfits and all? The idea the menu is ‘Mediterranean inspired’ is daft but sadly a testament to the chef’s paucity of imagination. The food is soup with meat, fish with meat, meat with meat and the frankly done to death ‘sticky toffee pudding’ (probably containing gelatin) The menu has eight mains of which one is vegetarian, that cliched favourite of tokenism, risotto. Where is the varied and delicious selection of vegetable and fish dishes that underpin a Mediterranean diet? This menu is more an 18th century Chop House than a diet for long life. The place is a throwback to the 1950s, it’s the Nigel Farage of gastro pubs. And the place certainly lives up to its name, the Fox and Hounds - the unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible.

Hobs weren’t working so we couldn’t have food. We were not told about this till 10 minutes after we sat down even though it was an issue all day long. Couldn’t have dinner and ruined our evening

We visited Il Molino for a quick couple of coffees and a light snack. The coffees were decent, though a bit too strong for our taste, and the pastry was okay, but nothing particularly special. What really stood out to us was the decor and atmosphere—it truly felt like being in a Mediterranean café. The ingredients on display looked fresh, adding to the authentic vibe. The staff were friendly, and the place had a warm, local feel, with many customers seeming like regulars. Prices were average for London, and while the food and drinks didn’t wow us, the ambiance makes Il Molino a spot worth recommending, especially for its charming atmosphere. “I hope you liked the review. We dined for lunch here, 35 of us, Christmas do, with kids. It was bloody mental, but the food was great, on time, hot & delicious. & Jenny our server was amazing, nothing phased her, she was kind to the kids. Brilliant pub, will definitely be back!!

Food is very tasty, but lattes not so much. My daughter loves the cookies, juices and ice-cream sold there. Slightly overpriced - strange to charge for babycinos.

Stumbled across this place whilst walking the Thames path. Lovely fish and chips and proper pie. Lots of space, great welcoming staff.
