Really lovely family restaurant to have our family Sunday roast get together, Marcin was very attentive and helpful. Would recommend a visit, very relaxed meal.

We were looking for somewhere to eat before out flight and was told it was nice. An absolute gem of a restaurant. Service was fantastic, food was excellent and venue spotless.

Very tasty fresh food. Nice parking area. Clean toilets. Busy but its been lunch time. One star only for bar ladies which were bit unfriendly. Rest of staff very nice and kind.

The Fox employees are always very welcoming, friendly and polite. The place is always clean and the ambiance is lovely. The food, well we have never had a meal that we did not enjoy enormously. They are amenable to you making small changes to the meal, I don't like chorizo so always ask for it be removed. They have a reward scheme which we have just joined, and they regularly send out offers such as free starter if you buy one etc. We love it!!

Really disappointed to be honest. My friend came to see me and I wanted to take him for a nice roast dinner! So I thought ooo the Fox is usually great, been a couple times before a while ago and had no issues. We ordered the shared roast platter that comes with pork belly, chicken and beef. When it came out it had no beef on it at all, so we was a little shocked at how you could miss a main part of the dish. So we told the staff and they then brought two little slices of the most disgusting pieces of beef I have seen. I have eaten a lot of roast dinners and for someone paying £30 each for a roast I was very insulted. We couldn’t actually eat it. I am sure from the pictures you can understand what we mean :(

Went for a roast dinner. Was poor, service was friendly but the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. Toby carvery offers a tastier and better quality roast dinner for half the price. Won’t go back.

We went to have dinner last night for Mother’s Day. Booked last minute so I could only get a late table. I was not told when we sat down that a few meal options on the set menu were not available so not great when you have spent time trying to figure out what you want to eat only to find out that you can’t have it. You would think that on a special day which is expected to be very busy that they would have planned it well enough to be able to provide the customers with whatever is on offer on a pre set menu. I wanted the fish which had ran out and was offered a piece of code as a replacement and I thought great but unfortunately that piece of fish tasted disgusting, my sons also tried it and agreed with me. Starters were not great either, the prawns and mushrooms dishes were tasteless, my scallops too salty and my son’s mains pretty average. On a positive note the puddings were really nice. Food delivery was very slow and by the time I got my fish which I had to send back, it was just too late to order anything else. Fiona who was one of the waitress was amazing and did everything possible to end our evening in a positive way, no manager in sight to sort the issues at the end of the dinner. As for the chef, to serve such a horrible piece of fish and tasteless food is beyond understanding. He/she needs to rethink their standards and how they cook it, I wouldn’t be surprised if everything came out of a pack including the jus/sauce. We don’t go to the restaurant very often and it was supposed to be a real treat, instead I went home hungry and very disappointed by our dining experience and so did my sons.

Came in for a late Mother’s Day meal on Monday evening. Atmosphere was lovely staff were attentive and efficient with every request we were served by Toby and another young gentleman both lovely and great service. Will definitely be back

I had the most amazing chicken burger – it was so good I forgot to take a picture! I would have happily eaten more, but I was only visiting for lunch. Fiona was a delightful waitress who made me feel very welcome, answered all my questions, and helped me choose the perfect dish. A fantastic place to visit – I wouldn’t hesitate to return!

Two friends visiting for lunch, the food was good and service was prompt. Great place for lunch and a good catch up with friends on the outskirts of Luton and Harpenden.

Excellent service, food & drinks

We were shown to our table, the time taken for us to be seen and order drinks was short. The starters arrived really quickly with the mains following a short time afterwards. The service was excellent and the food fantastic. Can't fault the waiters or the kitchen staff. Have no complaints.

Lovely food, and great service as always. We were here for a birthday and Sarah was exceptional, she heard me say it was my partner's birthday to surprise him on his desert. Massive thank you to the manager, who let us stay of the table for longer as they had a cancellation, to have after dinner drinks

Initial greeting was good and seated quickly. Took another 25mins for someone to take drinks and food order, it was busy, bit would have been good to have been acknowledged. Waitress did apologise for the wait when she came to take the order. After this the food and drinks came promptly and was presented well and tasted good.

Just so welcoming, Service is very good, food is good. Staff are so friendly. I have really bad food intolerances but they always accommodate me without any fuss. So good with dogs too our one thinks its her 2nd home!! Would definitely recommend.

Last minute decision to go to The Fox for dinner last night. Food was good as always but the thing that sets it apart is the staff. Friendly, helpful and attentive; Marchin in particular really went above and beyond. A great evening.

Updating my review to keep things current: The Fox is a splendid restaurant which we've been going to for years. The food is always good, especially the Sunday roasts, and the staff are great - particularly Fiona who is especially fantastic, extremely lovely, and always looks after us incredibly well. Get yourself in her section if you can!

I celebrated my 18th birthday at the Fox recently and the food, service and atmosphere were all outstanding. I've also been there for my mums birthday and fathers day and every time they have been amazing. Definitely a place to go to with prices not too much, and you definitely get what you payed for. 100% will be going back.

The Sunday roast was by far the worst I've ever had, the chicken was really dry the roast potatoes were hard and burnt and the Yorkshire pudding was also hard

What a lovely night had at The Fox in Harpenden. This has always been a favourite place of mine, but a recent visit deserved a review. On a cold winters night, the atmosphere was very welcoming. The young lad Spencer who was in charge of us was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable and the food was delicious when it arrived in a timely manner. It was a great distraction from the January blues and great value with their offers. Thanks to front and back of house.

Boxing Day 2024 family meal - with turkey dinner on the menu (which 3 out of 6 opted for). To say we were disappointed is putting it mildly! We were told the salmon starter was not available, but no information about the turkey main meal. We were served 2 turkey slices, 1/4 roast potato & 3 1/4 pieces of boiled, 2 sprouts, gravy, bread and cranberry sauce. No sign of the menu listed pigs in blankets or stuffing or other vegetables, and no apology for an incomplete meal. We asked the waitress if there was anything else and were told no. She did, however, eventually bring a dish of carrots, sprouts and parsnips. The manager had the opportunity to personally apologise, but didn't. Extremely unimpressed and will not be returning. N.B. this was listed over a previous review (to which the owner had responded). Ignore this response as it does not relate to the current review, above!

We booked for Boxing Day and were really looking forward to it. Having been to the Fox several times before. However, sadly we were very disappointed overall. Our starters (scallops) were not cooked properly, my partners chips were hard and uncooked. I ordered the celeriac Wellington, which arrived with one stalk of cold broccoli and 3 very hard unappetising roast potatoes. We decided against desert, asked for the bill and voiced our honest appraisal of the meal. The manager did reduce our bill However in hindsight we don't feel we should have paid anything for uncooked unappetising food and we were still hungry after leaving. The Fox is our go to celebration choice,but on this occasion we feel let down.

We returned to the Fox after our last visit some time ago, and we were really excited to come back for Christmas. The festive atmosphere was perfect, and the service we received from Fiona was absolutely delightful! She was attentive and friendly, making sure our experience was enjoyable from start to finish. It's clear that she truly cares about her guests and we remembered her wonderful service from our last visit ,her efforts made our return even more special. We can't wait to come back again!

We booked for our Christmas/birthday/anniversary celebration lunch, and were looking forward to a lovely meal! first hiccup, both real ales had 'just run out' very little in way of alternative, the suggested alternative turned out to be an alcohol free bottled beer!! We all chose the festive menu, all four starters were very nice, a little short on bread though. The turkey main was a disappointment despite the turkey itself being delicious, the roast potatoes (which were hidden under the turkey) had clearly been re-cooked, most likely twice and were inedible, the veggies were very al dente! The desserts were very nice! Many items on the festive menu carry around a 10%+ supplement! The restaurant is busy and tightly packed. The service staff were very good, but the chef/management needs to review what they send out on the plates.

We had lunch at the Fox yesterday and it was superb. The steak fillet sandwich maybe one of the best we had in the UK, and special thanks to Marcin who looked after our table. We definitely recommend you this lovely bar if you are in the area.

Wonderful wedding breakfast We had our wedding breakfast at The Fox and from start to finish it was wonderful . Amber helped us with the seating plan and talked us through menus. All 30 meals came out perfectly and the food was superb . Thank you Amber and team :)

We visited for our christmas outing from the office. the restaurant was nicely decorated and service was good, didn't feel rushed. All the food came as ordered and on hot plates, delivered to the table in a timely fashion. They took care to note any allergies. A very nice start to the festive season. thanks to all.

Not been to the FOX for a few years. That's about to change! Sunday roast to DIE FOR. Best roast we've had for probably more than a year. Plenty of food, amazing menu choices, lovely staff, food came quickly, piping hot and cooked to perfection. We came out of there stuffed and looking to book again for next weekend! Well done to the Fox. 12 out of 10.

I love the Fox! I love the food and the surroundings. However this time i was really unhappy with the way i was treated. I arrived at 4pm (on a Tuesday afternoon) the restaurant section was quite empty (as you would expect) I waa shown to an awful seat, next to the tills opposite the door. It was such a bad table that they used it for cutlery and they had to move the cutlery when they seated me. When I asked to move the waiter said all tables were resrved, which was a ridiculois lie. Only 2 groups arrived in the entire time i was there (2 hours). I have never been treated like that at the fox it was very very irritating. I didn't keep up a fuss because I didn't want the waiter to do anything to my food.

Pros : Food was lovely (roast dinner), and staff were courteous Cons : despite the restaurant being empty we were seated on a table by the kitchen, which was a shame. We were then joined on a nearby table by a group of 10 with incredibly poorly behaved children (one of whom nearly hit my daughter with a stone in the face. She seemed to think it was a good idea to be throwing them by the entrance / exit, and the parents seemed to be fine with it?!). Not the fault of the restaurant, but a shame that our meal was spoilt by other inconsiderate diners

Horrible experience! We ate at the Fox recently for Sunday lunch. Had a table for 4, and we invited friends from out of town, told them how good the Fox’s reputation was. While the food and the atmosphere were very good, we were abruptly asked to leave our table with no notice while we were in the middle of dessert, because they said they had another booking. We were not told this when we arrived, and we were not even given a short grace period. The waitress came to the table straight away with the bill and the card machine asking us to pay up immediately. It appeared that they had a party that included someone with a wheelchair and apparently our table was the only one that could accommodate this wheelchair. We were told if we wanted to finish our meal and have coffee that we could do so in the bar, well we didn’t want to do so in the bar, so we left. We were so embarrassed that our friends had to experience this, we could not apologise enough to them. Had we been told when we arrived that there was a time limit on the table, that would’ve been fine, but this was very unexpected and insulting. It appeared that the restaurant simply messed up their bookings, and we were inconvenienced by the situation. We were offered no compensation, and none of the staff who dealt with us showed the slightest signs of apology, we were just expected to deal with it. We hadn’t been to the Fox for a little while before this, and needless to say, it will be a very long time before we even consider going back again, if we ever do.

We hired the private dining room for a special birthday for 16 people, the service and food was really good and Alina our waitress was really great. Would recommend.

Great food, generous portions and service that goes above and beyond! We were with kids and they treated us fantastic, even booked us another table after our reservation time ended as we went there a bit later. Would definitely recommend for a great Sunday roast and a cosy atmosphere.

Most welcoming and friendly restaurant

Been here many times no issues. This visit, beyond poor. Long wait to order drinks and food once sat. Main meal was not nice. Potatoes were cold in middle and not cooked. One parties steak was not cooked correctly. Another had pie and pie surround too hard to cut. Complained, but after that waitress did not speak to us. Even after we paid the Bill and left she ignored us as we were walking past, no sorry or trying to fix it. Must be under new hands as never this poor. Think waitress called 'Alina'.
