fox and hounds in South Kesteven

Has anyone else had issues with this pub when arriving without a booking, or was it just our family? We went there one Saturday about 7 pm after bowling to have a meal. It wasn’t planned, but when we sat down and looked at the menus, no one mentioned anything to us. However, when we went to order the food, the lady at the counter, who was quite rude, told us that they don’t serve food unless you have a booking. There was no explanation given, even though many tables were empty and none of them had visible reservation signs. We left and ended up at another pub, where we were welcomed without any booking.

Came round with the family for a meal, staff was very nice and helpful. Food was excellent we really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.

I don’t usually write reviews but the pub was completely dead which is really sad to see and I can’t help but think it’s because of the poor service. Food was nice enough for a cheap pub meal but we ordered a burger on the app which was supposed to come with onion rings. Turned up with no onion rings and she didn’t think of telling us? Same thing happened with the sweet and sour sizzler. Was supposed to come with a large prawn cracker and it didn’t. I had to ask where it was and she said they didn’t have any… just basic manners to tell you something is missing from your meal isn’t it?! Ordered a pudding through the app and it didn’t come for 25 minutes so had to go and ask where it was. Chef said she didn’t hear it pop up (as she wasn’t in the kitchen and was standing around in bar area). Waitress didn’t apologies when she brought it over either. It was a Baileys profiterole sundae which was really nice when it finally arrived! Toilets had really sticky floor too which is strange considering the pub was empty :(

Excellent service, staff were really happy and friendly. Very accommodating for families with young children, nothing too much trouble. They were patient with the children when serving the food and did not make them feel rushed. Food was extremely good, we all had plenty of meat on our plates did not scrimp on it like some places where they only give you 1 slice. Loads of veggies to choose from.

Had a delicious carvery. Roast beef, good variety of well cooked ( not soggy) vegetables. Great roast potatoes and large Yorkie. The gravy was very tasty. All condiments available. We both really enjoyed the well priced roast dinner. Had a lovely apple pie. Proper sliced apples in crisp pastry. All in all an excellent meal, great service and comfortable, clean environment.

Front of house 10/10 couldn’t fault Jess and Beth will definitely be going back, amazing with my 2 young children would definitely recommend for friendliest/ kindest beautiful pud service 10 out of 10

Visit 1 in November for my husbands birthday was lovely. Food average but you get what you pay for. No issues at all. Family meals of 7 for my birthday in December was very different Sooo cold. Sat with coats on throughout our long wait for food. 1.5 hours still no food, my daughter and her boyfriend finally got there's. Spoke to the manager who was very rude, felt quite intimidated when another male member of staff marched over and stood behind her. Attitude was disgusting. Food finally came after 1 hour 50 minutes in which time my daughter had already finished. Food wasn't great. As a way of apology to was offered a refund on my meal and 20% off my next visit. I certainly won't be visiting again which is a shame as we do visit there on occasion.

Just the place to get Christmas Dinner ruined, Starters all incorrect and had to produce a copy of our order form then the staff admitted it had been brought to the wrong table, Then we had to sit and watch the food on the counter getting colder while we waited to be told that we could join the queue as directed, Yup cold turkey and end of joint so just given a large chunk instead of slices, cold black mushy sprouts. cold soggy carrots, hot roast potatoes, Puddings, 1 apple pie very nice, 1 chocolate trio very nice, 4 xmas puddings or rather tray bake cold something with cold custard on cold plate, 1 xmas pudding or rather tray bake but hot with hot custard and a warm plate, unfortunately all brought out at different times, each time our 1 childs meal came at a different time, so no all together nice happy family xmas meal, whilst paying for our drinks I asked if they would like feed back on our experience and started to explain when I was stopped and told they would fetch the manager, never arrived, sent an e-mail next day but as of mid day today no response.

Great food, great service and a great price. Decent menu and portion sizes. Plus they have a pool table and darts board. Super friendly staff. Absolutely recommend!

There is always room for improvement in any restaurant not everyone can be 100% perfect . The staff are very friendly and chatty

We have visited this pub on a number of occasions after moving into the area. We have always found the staff to be friendly and the food has always been well made and good value for money. I feel sorry for the team who have been given such a hard time recently due to breakdowns of equipment and heating, through no fault of their own, but they have tried to continue to operate as much as normal whilst getting things fixed. They have gone out of their way to explain to customers what is happening and it is the customers choice if they stay or not. We will continue to support this local pub as it is a rarity to have a local in villages these days. Keep up the hard work Nina and team.

I visited here several times while staying with some friends who are local to this pub, staff are very friendly and chatty and quick to serve you if you are waiting. Dog friendly & located in a very picturesque village with plenty of parking. Will definitely be back when next in the area.

I usually stop in here if out for a ride as there's a good car park, plenty of seating. Drinks are a decent price and usually quick service at the bar. Unless there's a lot of food orders going in which can cause a queue

Decided to try here for after shopping lunch break. I ordered fish and chips and added extra fish for £2.00. The fish was fantastic with a light crispy batter (best I have ever tasted)! Chips and mushy peas were perfect. My wife ordered the rump steak with chips. The steak was cooked perfectly and came on a sizzling platter with onion rings and mushrooms. The beer was John Smiths and was very nice. My wife had the house white wine which she really enjoyed, light and crisp with a pleasing dry finish. The bar staff were helpful and polite and service was prompt. The meal was so good my wife personally thanked the chef for her cooking skills. I can recommend this pub for the atmosphere and quality of fare. Will be revisiting again shortly and can't wait to sample other menu options.

Shocking customer service, booked a table arrived in good time to be told no bookings taken, and sit anywhere. Gents toilet out of order, access toilet was disgusting urine and water all over the floor. Over 30 minutes wait to be served with cold burnt starters!! Certainly won't be returning!!! Staff unwelcoming, manager dressed like she was gardening!!!

We stopped last night at The Fox and Hounds, Old Somerby, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely food (reasonably priced) and dog friendly. We had a nice peaceful night tucked up in the top of the car park, I would definitely recommend!

We looked at reviews and thought we would go here for a birthday meal as good reviews, it was pretty poor to be honest, a server bought some food out and was asking who had ordered, I asked if ours she pretty rudely said no it wasnt, ours came out a few mins later, we ordered a sizzling steak meal, it was very fatty and tasteless. They had a band on which was way too loud the sound drowned out the singer who was pretty good but too loud for a restaurant, out heads were banging so skipped desert. Didn't speak to staff about the meal as could barely hear each other so just left.

Fabulous Sunday carvery! Beautifully cooked meats ( the beef is outstanding!) choice of many vegetables, sauces and hot gravy. Dog friendly in the bar. Lovely staff 👌

Myself my wife and our dog went here for lunch, we were made very welcome. I had a marvellous mixed grill and the wife had fish and chips( our dog even had a small mixed grill!) It was a very clean and pleasant experience and we will definitely visit again.

Good food at a good price. Friendly staff who were clearly aware of dietary guidelines. My wife is dairy free and the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was ok for her. Will definitely be back!

Never fails to impress . Food was amazing .staff so friendly . I had the chilli and rice very tasty . Others in my party had the kebab and the curry Only problem was I had no room for a desert . Will defernatly go again

We have just been to the Fox and Hounds for an unplanned carvery, due to Billy ( our dog) being at the doggy parlour. Staff were very welcoming, food was delicious and was pleasantly surprised to find that they are dog friendly so we will definitely be taking Billy with us next time. The atmosphere was calm and staff were very attentive so will definitely be going back.

We went here for a family 40th Birthday celebration 20 people . I could not fault anything . Great communication prior to the celebration. The food was exactly as ordered .. The meals themselves were superb . Must say how lovely the waiting and bar staff were also. Very efficient and helpful. Would definately recommend.

Had the pleasure of visiting this pub restaurant yesterday as a venue to celebrate 2 family birthdays. We were a large party and were given exclusive access to the conservatory. The carvery was of a very high standard and the service was excellent. I will certainly visit next time we are in the area.

We went to the Fox and Hounds with family for a meal. Colin and the team were very welcoming and the pub was clean spacious. We had three courses each and each course was delicious. The ale was well kept and went down a treat. The pub has an app too which provides all sorts of offers and loyalty rewards. So we will be back. I understand that they have live music on some nights so I will be in the look out for these. I would highly recommend the Fox and Hounds for a warm welcome, good food and very good value.

Had a really good evening here with the family, the atmosphere was lovely. We all ordered different main courses and they were all cooked perfectly and piping hot when served. The staff were all incredibly friendly and the pub was spotlessly clean . Really nice to find somewhere which ticks all the boxes. Lovely home cooked food from the carvery. Potatoes were delicious as was the whole meal. Excellent value for money will definitely return.

The team here all so friendly and welcoming, especially the lady that works the earlier shift usually, she's a treasure and a real dog lover. Bruce and Margo the two beautiful Bulldogs that live here, brighten up my visit every time. I live close by and I really enjoy stopping off here as I pass through, you're always guaranteed a warm welcome :)

My wife and I are returning to this restaurant after a few years as we moved home to a village on the other side of Grantham. We were both blown away by the improvements. As you walk in you can see how clean and well kept the restaurant is. We were greeted by the assistant manager Ninna who was so smart and beautifully presented and clearly is very proud of all her team. The meals we selected were prepared to the highest standard by the chef and delivered to the table by a friendly and helpful member of staff. If you are thinking about using this restaurant with your family and friends, take it from us you will not be disappointed. This place has just got a whole lot better. Oh and the toilets were immaculate. Thank you all so much.

It’s not what it’s seems! Got there, ordered at the bar, waited about an hour for food to it come out and it was the wrong items to what I ordered so back it came after another 20 mins wait, it was all stone cold they came over to ask how the meals was to my reply was it was all cold!! So the barmaid said she would give me my money back! To that I went upto the bar and to what I thought they gave me my money back( as they wouldn’t give me a receipt ) they was quite rude and the manager just walked off without saying nothing just a stare I got home to see they didn’t even give me half of my money back! I will not be returning!!! Avoid

Me and my husband visit the fox and Hounds every week and never had any reason to leave a bad review about the place, we always have a warm welcome and the staff are very polite and helpful. The food is always piping hot when we get it and it's good value for money. It is always clean and tidy, a very large parking space. The manager is polite and friendly. Iwe would recommend this place to anyone.

The Fox and Hounds is a friendly country pub/restaurant with good food st great prices. It's had bad reviews in the past,but now with a new permanent manager who recruited some excellent kitchen and front of house staff. I'm sure it will go from strength to strength. We always enjoy our visits especially the excellent Sunday carvery which is the cheapest for miles around. We'll Don Colin and the team.

Before I get to the food I have to make a comment regarding the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and you could have a laugh with them. But the food, OMG, you need to try the Cluckin Hot Stack chicken burger. Me and the wife ran out of superlatives and just stuck to WOW, absolutely delicious. Then the apple and blackberry crumble that I had was superb and my wife loved the Dessert Shop Waffle. We will definitely be going back

Myself and my partner really enjoy visiting the fox and hounds, all of the staff are very polite and helpful and Colin the manager has really turned this place around. The food is amazing as always, I had a halloumi wrap of the lunch menu and it came with a free soft drink. The price was really good also. Excellent choices of good food,from 9AM to 9PM.Easy parking a few miles out of town centre.Worth while visit for all types of diet needs.Great welcome from all staff and lovely food speedily served.Colin and his lovely staff work hard to give a great dinning expirience at very reasonable prices.Always a lovely expirience for breakfast,lunch and dinner with deserts to die for.

Fantastic service from friendly staff, venue is lovely and clean. Food is delicious and great value. A family friendly venue that also welcomes the family dog.

My partner and I visited on 1st October. We wanted a carvery but it had finished so we ordered from the main menu. We ordered a 14oz Gammon and scampi. After about 30 minutes our food came. The Gammon was less than half the 14oz advertised so I sent it back and came with 1 fried egg not two as advertised. My partner was not offered any cutlery or napkins and finished her meal before mine came back. Still only one egg but fed up of waiting so just wanted to eat. Garden peas were bullets that had been microwaved again and chips stone cold. Gammon was cremated and tough as leather. Yes I still ate it because I was hungry. Sorry to complain Fox and Hounds but it’s not good enough. Other than the really polite and helpful female assistant serving drinks and food it was not a positive dining experience. Leaving all the food out from the carvery and having your so called chefs sitting around the bar is also not a good look. Give it a miss is my advice.

We had not been here for a while, and thought we would give it a try for lunch. However, as we were being served our drinks at the bar , we saw a man sit 2 large drooling bulldogs on a leather settee, and then sit between them as if they were his children. The thought of dogs being allowed on public seating put us off even sitting on the chairs, let alone eating, so we took our drinks outside and sat on a picnic table on the lawn. Incredibly, there was a pile of dog poo right next to us. It was NOT fresh, but dried out and several days old such that the lawn had grown around it (see photo). The next day, we reported our experience, with photo, to the local environmental health authority. If you choose to go here, with dog or not, we recommend you look out for dog poo and sanitise any seats and tables before you use them, especially with children, and especially when eating. I hope this advice helps.

Had an amazing meal out. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend a visit. We also met the GM Collin, who was so helpful and an absolute asset to the business. We will definitely be returning.

Great lunch. Such a friendly welcoming pub (very dog friendly). Front of house service by Nina & Colin was superb and the food prepared by Charlotte & Steve was excellent (particularly the belly pork and crumble). Highly recommended.
