Went for afternoon tea for a birthday, waited 30 minutes to be seated (despite booking) and then over an hour for food. The kids option wasn’t child friendly and kids barely had anything they could eat. You will also be charged 12.5% service charge for 1.5hours of snail paced service and a table that hasn’t been a set properly. Waste of money and very poor levels of service. Won’t be retiring.

Have an actual holiday with your children. A hotel that doesn't just tolerate kids, it really caters to them properly. Good food. Nice pool and spa. Excellent location, always beautiful, and a lot to do if you come in season (but remember, most things seem to be shut in Fowey in January). Ofstead registered crèche has a lovely selection of toys and great activities on offer, with some childcare included, with additional sessions possible, up to a maximum of four hours a day. We've been three times and have always come away refreshed. We will go again.

We met my sister here and her husband who were staying, also joined by our other sister for an evening meal. I can't fault anything; completely blown away by the whole experience - the relaxed and homely ambience, the very tasteful decor and fittings, the staff who were very well trained to provide just the right amount of attention - not too attentive, but clear, friendly and helpful. The food was out of this world, top notch and the bar service, beer and cocktails were amazing. Special mentions to restaurant manager George, waiting staff Sasha and bar attendant Josh. Thank you also for welcoming our dog who enjoyed his bon a pet treat. I have never had such a faultless experience and can't wait to come back - hopefully to stay this time. My sister said the rooms were fantastic. Many many thanks Helen and James

Had a fabulous afternoon indulgence spa day with an afternoon tea. Staff were excellent, we had perfect weather to enjoy the view, and the facilities were just right. Awesome steam room. Had the full body hot stone massage and our therapist was spot on, perfect pressure and so relaxing. Highly recommend, and will be back

I've updated this review after the General Manager call me. The points below are all still valid. However, her response has been more in line with what I would expect: we have been sent an email acknowledging the points below and she has also called to follow up. We have been offered a complimentary night stay, which I think is a reasonable response. She also told me they are implementing changes on site to address some of the concerns below (and I guess some of the other similar comments more recently). ================== I wanted to share some feedback following our recent stay at Fowey Hall Hotel. While there were aspects of our visit that we really enjoyed, there were also several issues that fell well below the standard one would expect from a luxury hotel. The Positives: • Spa: The standout experience was the spa, and in particular, Hannah. She was excellent—professional, attentive, and truly understands what guests expect from a luxury hotel. She went out of her way to accommodate our treatments and consistently provided a warm and welcoming presence throughout our stay. • Breakfast: The coffee was particularly good, and the selection was reasonable. Service was generally fine first thing in the morning. • Blue Room for Kids: This worked well and was a valuable amenity for our stay. The Concerns: Service & Staff Training:Unfortunately, Hannah seemed to be in the minority. The majority of staff did not appear to be adequately trained in how to engage with guests or what level of service is expected in a high-end hotel. There was a noticeable lack of attentiveness, and interactions often felt indifferent or unpolished. Example: it was a cold February evening, we were in the Library and told the fire could not be lit because everyone was too busy. Why was this not prepared during a quieter period in the afternoon? Housekeeping Issues: • We raised concerns about the poor and inconsistent cleaning of our room (Pan) on three separate occasions at the front desk, yet the same issues persisted. • Specific issues included: towels not always being replaced, dirty glasses left out, milk/water/biscuits not replenished, and even dirty cleaning cloths being left in the room. • The room was not vacuumed at all during our stay—completely unacceptable. Room Standards: • The overall quality of the rooms was disappointing for a hotel positioned as a luxury destination. • The wardrobes had permanently attached hangers, something one would expect in a budget hotel, not one charging premium rates. • Films on the TV required additional payment—this felt unnecessary and not in keeping with a luxury experience. Dining Experience: • Our meal on the first night was extremely slow, taking over an hour to arrive. There appeared to be no senior staff on duty who could effectively manage the situation. • Other tables experiencing delays were offered compensation, while we were not—demonstrating inconsistency in service recovery. • Given the poor experience and lack of proactive resolution, we chose not to dine in the restaurant again. Reception & Guest Relations: • The front desk frequently felt unattended, and staff did not make an effort to be available or engage with guests. • On one occasion, when providing feedback about our room not being cleaned properly, a staff member became visibly frustrated, handed us a business card, and told us to take our complaint directly to the GM before walking off. This was shocking and entirely unprofessional. Overall, while we did enjoy certain aspects of our stay, there were too many operational and service-related issues for this to be considered a true luxury experience. There is lack of attention to detail. We hope this feedback is helpful and that improvements can be made to bring the hotel’s service and standards in line with the expectations it sets for guests.

Lovely hotel in great location overlooking Fowey. Very polite and helpful staff. Our room was good. However our one night stay was completely ruined by the dinner experience. We have two children (11 and 9) so booked early dinner for 6pm. However It took over ONE HOUR for our starters to arrive, and then ANOTHER HOUR for the mains. We didn’t bother with pudding. As we left the dining room we could see other families having a similar experience. We’ve never stayed in a hotel with slower dinner service; with children this is just not acceptable. Sadly we shall not be returning.

Hotel was lovely staff friendly and helpful. But recommended don’t eat in, over priced for what you get, drinks are very expensive and they put 12.4% service charge on your bill.

We spent a long weekend here for a birthday celebration in January, the staff were very welcoming, helpful courteous and efficient from our arrival to our departure , we were a party of 6 - 3 generations -there was plenty to do for all , from’kids-club’ to library and everything in between, swimming, sauna, steam-room and spa, games room and board games. The standard of food service in the restaurants very good and the menu varied to suit most tastes. The rooms are beautiful, -as is the whole hotel, the level of comfort is 1st class with a stunning en-suite, we stayed in the “New - New wing” We had a couple of short walks - Fowey is just 5 minutes to the centre from the hotel with some lovely shops a great fish and chips! Pubs and Readymoney beach is a short walk away too! Would come back here without a second thought!

We stayed here for 4 nights to celebrate my mum's birthday. I wanted something luxurious, but most importantly, child friendly! This hotel is perfect for couples, single people or families. They cater for everyone! Games rooms with table tennis, pool table, 2x arcade games machines, football table, cinema (showing 2 films per day) and even 2 hours childcare per night of staying included! The staff sat us in a family area within the restaurant for breakfast and dinner so young children do not disturb other guests. It was absolutely ideal as I was able to relax, knowing that a child having a meltdown on the next table was no different to mine 5 minutes later 🤣 The staff can not do enough, and everyone always asked if we were okay or if we needed anything. I commented to the restaurant manager that the service for me was excellent, because usually young staff show no interest or look bored! When you're paying a lot of money to stay somewhere, you want to be taken care of and made to feel looked after. The only negative is that the food served at dinner is nice, but not as good as it could be. It's also overpriced for what it is. We only ate for dinner here once because of that.

At first glance, great hotel, beautiful rooms and facilities. Very well equipped for families. However, the restaurant is of appalling quality and the service was mostly inefficient (apart from a couple of lovely waiters). Traveling with young kids is stressful enough and when choosing this hotel, we thought it would be to have at least nice food. The waiting times at meal times was between 30 and 45 minutes each time and this is hell with young children. The quality of the food was really bad (not even average pub food quality and for a hotel of this range you would expect good food). So basically this is what we will remember from Fowey hall which is so unfortunate.

An exceptional coastal hotel. Beautiful location overlooking the tranquil town of Fowey. The staff are exceptional and are so welcoming and make you feel at home. A huge thank you to both Laura and Claire, Steph and Harry but every member of staff wanted to help and were fantastic. The heated outdoor pool is superb. The rooms are so comfortable and have been kitted out with exceptional fixtures and fittings. I loved the cosy lounges and the local knightor wine which was on offer by the glass. We were told the next plan is to add more to the spa (which is already lovely). We can’t wait to come back. The owners have really gone for it with the renovation and own a small group of family hotels.

Exceptional Facial Experience with Jess Last Friday I had the pure joy of enjoying a facial treatment with Jess, it was an absolute delight. From start to finish, Jess’s expertise made this facial stand out as the best I’ve ever had. Jess began the session with a gentle guided meditation, instantly putting me at ease, allowing me to relax and fully immerse myself in the experience. Jess’s skill and experience was evident throughout the facial and I loved the Ishga products. The head and neck massage were heavenly and, even though it was an ‘express’ treatment, I felt completely pampered. Overall, my experience with Jess was nothing short of exceptional. Her professionalism, expertise, and genuine care deserve recognition. I left feeling refreshed, renewed, and grateful for the wonderful treatment. Thank you, Jess, I’ve already booked my next facial!

Recently got married in the hotel. The hotel is in a great location, amazing views, fabulous rooms, generous breakfast, children and dog friendly but remaining remarkably adult at the same time. The restaurant delivered an excellent wedding breakfast for 100 guests and the service from the staff was faultless. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend 👏🏻

Rooms were very clean, tidy and very well presented by the kind and welcoming staff. For breakfast there was a variety of complementary food and fresh drinks like orange and apple juice. There was also a menu for hot breakfasts which were delicious and highly recommend the fluffy pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. The service was amazing, especially Charlie who helped out quite a lot with my parents wedding and was always very charming and welcoming towards everybody. The views were spectacular as the hotel overlooks the horizon, with the local harbour and sea.

We've had a wonderful 2 night stay at Fowey Hall. The hotel was beautiful, the facilities were great. The outside of the hotel, the views and the grounds were stunning. There was so much to do. We liked the games in the lobby and we managed to get a nice swim in the pool. It was nice and warm and not busy at all on Saturday evening. We also liked the playground for the kids and had a nice walk in the area. All the staff were very welcoming and lovely to all of us. We're celebrating mine and my son's birthday and at the dinner, he got surprised with a cake and Happy Birthday writing on the plate. It was so kind and made him very happy(along with his Sundae). The food in the restaurant and the breakfast were very good. Very nice choice of breakfast to order and buffet style cereals, pastries, yoghurts, etc, were available too. The room was so lovely. We loved the freestanding bath. The room, particularly the bed, was very comfy. We've had everything we needed. The coffee and tea making facilities, the shortbread biscuits and the robes were a nice touch. We've had a free upgrade to a partial view room, we really appreciate the lovely gesture. The kids asked if we can live here and said this was the best hotel ever. We'd definitely return. Such a lovely place to stay. Thank you for having us and for everything.

We did a week here in February with our 1.5 year old. It was a nightmare trying to get there via train from London, but that was due to the rain and the rail service. The hotel was kind and accommodating once we were finally able to arrive 5 hours late. Even helping us change rooms from a one room to a two room which was really clutch with a baby (able to do because it was term time so the hotel was not packed, and in Feb it was a very reasonable upgrade for what we got). Room was beautiful, clean, and comfy beds, with everything we needed for baby! (Disclaimer: if your baby/kid is still in cot but on the big side be careful about the travel cots they have. Great convenience, but our 1.5 was almost too big for it, so check size before arrival.) Overall it was an amazing experience and for us did feel very luxurious. So much to keep our kid happy and occupied right there. The den was amazing, super clean and cute and baby seemed to have a great time with the staff there. While he was being taken great care of for free 90 min sessions we adults were able to relax, see the town, and have afternoon tea! I also got a massage one day and it was amazing. I would agree it's not much of a whole spa, no hot tub or sauna room, but the treatments are great and the pool super fun for littles with a great view.

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.
