Excellent service from Mel and Aaron, food was good quality and value for money. Love coming here with family as we always receive a warm welcome.

My local pub, I regularly meet friends and family for drinks here. Its a great place to catch up , with a great atmosphere and a wide drinks selection . The Staff are friendly - I would definitely recommend!!

We had a gathering at The Crown after my mum's funeral for about 30 people. We had opted for the 'Gold Buffet' which offered a good variety of imaginative items. On the day the food far exceeded our expectations. Plenty of freshly prepared buffet items, presented attractively. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Previously I have had enjoyable lunches at this venue but was so impressed with how they dealt with our function - as were many of the guests. Many thanks to the staff at The Crown.

We visited The Crown as part of Monday-Wed 50% off mains. They had run out of sirloin and ribeye steaks. Heather, was very friendly and apologetic and gave us 3 free drinks of our choice on the house to compensate, as those were the dishes...

Cheap and tacky a drinkers pub. Food was average but cheap however the dishes don’t match their description on the menu. If you want a load of beer with your mates and some chips you’ll be ok if you want more go elsewhere.

Just had brunch at The Crown, along with 23 others in our party. The staff were friendly and efficient, serving a good range of breakfasts to the satisfaction of most of the elderly members of our group.

Staff were polite and helpful, particularly our waitress Heather who worked so hard to provide an excellent service to a our group of 19. All meals were served together and were beautiful. Certainly excellent value for money and we will definitely book again.

Came with my family for my sister's birthday, food was spectacular, I had a steak and it was the best steak in the area, truly delicious. The drinks were easy to get as bar staff were genuine and lovely.

Pre booked a specific table, and was assured it would be reserved for us.......let’s just say it wasn’t, the pub wasn’t busy so we were found somewhere else, checked the menu ,chose our food and ordered at the bar, apparently table 19 had an open...

The Crown, Walsall Road Sutton Coldfield First there is plenty of tables and room available, and good car parking. Second there is a varied and full menu including a fixed price two or three course before 5pm and two & three course menu after 5pm....

We accidentally stumbled across this pub after visiting family, for a quick bite to eat before our journey home. I must say we didnt expect to uncover such a wonderful and pleasent place. My wife and I were greeted politely and pleasantly at the bar...

Attended a family party here and it could not have been better! Food was great and the staff really went out of their way to spoil my dad, even giving him a cake they had been and bought themselves which worked out good for us as we had forgotten to bring one with us. Thank you

We started with a large portion of the chicken wings in Hot sauce...simply delicious and a great portion size for 2 to share!!(Pictured.....it was so tasty, I almost forgot to take a photo!)They had run out of the Fish & Chips (Haddock) AND the Avocado salad.....not a great start, however they did have the 'posh fish & chips'......2 Sea Bass fillets battered in their beer batter (I can never taste the beer...but hey ho!)...so we both opted for that. Stunning!!! I was wary that such a delicate fish could stand-up to being battered...it was hot, fresh 2 nice sizes of fish (pictured) just enough chips and a lovely 'crunchy' tartar sauce served with it.....what a find.Good service, good food but the place is looking a tad worn and tired in places (the toilets weren't great and the wallpaper peeling in places...but only upon detailed inspection...it is still a nice general pub atmos)Having just been stung twice by parking camera's lately I clocked immediately (there are enough signs warning you!) that I needed to enter my reg at the bar to avoid a ticket...be warned!I would go back if in the area...and have already looked where other Ember Inns are so my Mum can have the posh F&C's as sea bass is her favorite meal...well done Ember Inns!!

Went to see some of the villa game, which wasnt on so stayed anyway and had a coke. Got told the carpark ticket wasnt working properly. After trying several times. Thought nothing else of it. Walk in this evening to find a car park fine for £145. This is absolutely outrageous. I would 100% avoid the pub in future. It's not my local but I fancied a change. I wish I hadn't. To try and avoid a pating for a ticket is ridiculous and I have no problem or issue with it anywhere. This paying for parking on a pub your using is becoming a joke in the UK.

We have visited before and the meals have not been exciting but they have not been expensive either. There is a lot of space between tables and most seats are comfortable . Unfortunately Sunday Roast was disappointing - very bland and sad. I have never had tasteless gravy before. The comfort of the room was spoilt by a stale smell - rather like unwashed cleaning cloths or mops. This made our meals even less appetising. If we had been asked about our meals I would have given my comments there and then but no one took the slightest interest in us.

Visited here on a Sunday with the family. We all ordered the trio Sunday lunch. What a mistake, the food quality was extremely poor and some of the party only managed to eat half on the plate. The mash was yellow !, the vegetables just a mashed up pile of greens. The meats were bland and quite literally just a very small slice of each, the Yorkshire puddings clearly just warmed up out of a packet along with the stuffing that was solid and dry the carrots were not even just top and tailed and the roasts were soft and mushy.We won’t be going back, typical ember inns pre delivered micro wave prepared food. They even managed to over cook the chocolate brownie and it was rock hard. Might have just been a bad day but the pub was empty...I wondered why!!Despite this the staff were friendly perhaps just need new kitchen staff.

An Ember Inn, it has the air and clientele of a local and is a good meeting place for friends with friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Drink prices are average and it has a large menu, serving food all day. The food is nothing to write home about, standard pub chain fare, but, then again, there isn’t anything to complain about either, it neither excites nor disappoints and having eaten there quite a few times, it is always consistent.The man who served our food was friendly and chatty and cleared the table quickly when we had finished.I had the Chicken BLT which is a tasty sandwich, while friends had chicken wings, which are a remarkably meaty option and a chicken pie. The food is reasonably priced, and we had no complaints about service or quality.When it comes to clearing tables though, beware over enthusiastic staff. I had half a double G&T on the table and while I was away getting a round in, a helpful member of staff cleared our table of empties – including, unnoticed by my friends, my half-drunk G&T!!!!. The bar staff said they would look into it . . . and as far as I know they are still looking.

I have visited this pub several times to meet up with old friends, and we are always made to feel very welcome by most of the staff. The menu choice is varied, but the food is never better than average. On this most recent visit the person who waited on our table seemed particularly disinterested, and he even reached right across me a few times to place things down or remove them, even though there was plenty of room to get round to the other guest's place, which I thought to be very rude. We will return because it's in a convenient location, but the waiting staff need to brush up their act!

I visited The Crown this weekend by pure chance, as we were passing through and felt a bit hungry. Service was excellent, food was very tasty and everyone was very friendly. A very well run team. 100% recommend

We always pop in when we visit my son and I’m pleased to see you have a lovely new manager. It sometimes takes time to bring new customers around especially when you’ve got one trying to sabotage the reviews. Just remember it’s the manager who runs the pub, if there wasn’t a manager the pub would have to close.

Popped in with friends for a quick meet up. Staff were very efficient and our food came out hot and tasty. Would definitely pop in again when in the area.

Popped into our local for Sunday dinner with the kids. Service has improved hugely, can actually get served at the bar now. Food was lovely, served fairly quickly and good value for money. Big improvement on previous visits.

Will never set foot in the place again the treatment of Nigel the quiz guy was a disgrace the pub is run on a sunday night by a group of drunks sat in the corner abusing the quiz guys. As for the mangers comments I have been in there every Sunday for years and have never set eyes on her. The staff apart from Steve are hopeless if you ask for a table to be cleaned it’s to much trouble .This is supposed to be one of Ember inns flagship pubs what a joke. Hope they enjoy there empty Sunday nights.

I’ve Been a Sunday quiz night regular at the crown for several years. Its something I look forward to as the weekend approaches and always promises to be a funfilled evening. But no more.

I have been a regular at the Sunday Night Quiz for a number of years but the last 4 months the brilliantly run Sunday Night Quiz is ruined every Sunday night by the same bunch of drunks who shout out answers and swear at the quiz master, but despite previous complaints nothing has been done. They continue to be served with alcohol despite being drunk and spoiling it for everybody, they seem to be untouchable. Sadly, last night (12/05/19) the quiz master called time on the quiz so now it has been spoiled for a number of teams who are now looking to move to another pub. What a shame because nobody seems to be in control of the pub on a Sunday night.

The same table every week get drunk and hurl abuse at people for just doing a quiz. They continue to be served and the staff do nothing about it.

Well done Crown your inability to sort out the rude swearing and riotous crowd has succeeded in the quiz master going as he has had enough. The numbers have dwindled due to the groups behaviour and the lack of support he has had. This was the best quiz in Sutton and you have lost them. Obviously the beer and food we buy was not important and I agree with the other complaint. Goodbye and thanks for the fish

We visited the Crown for a family funeral meal. Everything was fine and the meal was paid for by a relative. However we have just received a £85 fine in the post because we did not realise there were car parking charges. This was our first visit to the Crown and possibly because of the occasion we didn't realise that charges were made. It has made us most unhappy.

What a wonderful find! We were driving through and stopped off for a bite hoping it would be nice, we were not disappointed. The staff were great, the manager simply amazing, nothing was too much. Excellent value for money. I would happily go here again, and again!

Visited after a trip to Sutton Coldfield ..had a lovely lunch ..hubby loved the ales poor me nominated driver. Great choice of food and excellent value for money, staff friendly and helpful.Next time he's driving and I'm trying the gins.

Fabulous. Staff so nice and attentive really nice to get polite service in the days of 'fast food take the money and not give a rats ass about the customer' service generally given these days a breath of fresh air. Went for dinner with the other half whilst we were out and about having stumbled across this pub. We will be back soon no doubt.

4 of us came on a Friday evening for drinks and a chinwag, no food. Place was very busy and they had a singer in the corner providing entertainment. Drinks reasonably prices, staff very polite and overall enjoyed the evening. Thank you Crown.

Having been sent a email from Ember Inns saying, that we would get £10.00 off a £30 spend we decided to visit. As there were 3 of us out for lunch. No brainer. 3 meals and 2 lots of 3 drinks, easily exceed the £30 spend. The bill came to £45. Job done. No no. said the barmaid, you only have the voucher code, I need to see the full terms and conditions of the email sent to you. YOU MIGHT HAVE USED THIS CODE BEFORE! I said have used codes sent through with just the screenshot of the number at the Horse and Jockey and other Ember Inns and she said that is not acceptable.Surely a bit of sense should have been used here and if the code had been used before the system would have rejected it. I felt utterly dismayed. Check on the system. A very poor performance by your staff. To add our meals were poor, as we what we ordered was not delivered as the other barmaid put the order through incorrectly. By this time we had lost the will to live and just wanted to leave. I say this as someone who has worked in hospitality for years and sees both sides. Shocking The Crown

My son and I went for Sunday Lunch here for the first time, and it was delicious. Not too busy so we got a table by the fire which was nice as it was really cold outside. We had the 3 course menu option £12.99. The service was excellent and the food was too.

I’ve just read the latest review on here and felt I had to comment, my wife and I have been regulars at the quiz for a number of years and remember when the place was packed on a Sunday night. It’s a great night and it’s such a shame that the group of drunken men have been allowed to ruin it. The table where they sit is now surrounded by empty seats as teams move further away to avoid listening to the barrage of obscenities and foul language. They shout answers and act like small children as they get drunker and drunker to the point where they can’t stand up!! These are grown men who you would think should have some sort of manners. This Sunday was our last. No more ... The final straw came when we sat as far away as possible but still could hear them one of them shouted “somebody tell that fat c*** to shut up” referring to the quizmaster. Such a shame as Nigel is the reason people go to the quiz. He just seemed to laugh it off but why should he? Anyway we won’t be back!, until it’s sorted or we find a friendlier venue.

Although the quiz is the best in Sutton. many are staying away as there is a crowd that do not enter the quiz they have obviously had too much to drink and constantly swear with many four lettered words both c and f.They shout over the questions and even swear at the quiz master.It is very uncomfortable situation and could easily flare up to a worse situation. This is not a one off it gets worse each week.it used to be full but no one wants to sit by them and many aren’t coming anymore.the staff are lovely but obviously reluctant to tackle them.

Went on Saturday early noon. Table was sticky. Menus were filthy with food all over them. Typical ember inn. Has really gone down hill. Waited 35 mins for food and pub practically empty. Won’t be coming back.

Not been to this Vintage Inn before but were pleasantly surprised with the menu choices and quality of the food. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. The only annoying thing was the ticket machine in the car park. It was too dark to see how to operate it correctly and we spent some time fathoming it out and got very cold in the process. We did get the parking charge taken off our bill so that was good.

Recently visited again after a while, was surprised to see a difference in the place. they have a new manager ad she seems to have made a big difference, the staff seem happier and more organised and they have a new vegan menu which my wife thinks is great. I had a steak and it was well cooked and well presented. the pub was warm and the atmosphere was spot on. we will be going again soon!

What has happened at the Crown ?? Went there on Sunday early evening for a nice chill out with a bottle of wine. We decided to eat there instead of going for our usual Asian food. We have eaten there before so we expected the same level of food. What a mistake that was - just goes to show how expectations can let you down. First of all we wanted Sunday lunch, this had sold out, no problem there as this happens. Then I decided to have a full rack of ribs as I had tried these before and they fell off the bone they were so tender. My husband had a curry, which was recommended by a member of staff after having a joke about 'have to have a curry then if you have no chicken' at the bar. Well........... First of all the curry was cold (temperature and spice wise) and very small. The waiter took it back and it came back seconds later having been in the microwave. My ribs had to be cut off the bone and the chips were cold and undercooked. The waiter came and asked about the food when he collected he plates. I mentioned that the curry was not good and he said he would come back and ask my husband about the problem when he sat down again, he was at the bar which was another problem. There was not enough staff. We never saw our waiter again so no result. Note to waiters - please don't appear interested and concerned about a bad meal if you have not intention of coming back to chase it up. We have been going to The Crown for many years and something has changed, The staff were all different, the usual girls were not there. I realise they had been very busy but to be honest that was not my fault so why should I put up with shoddy food because of it. So please Layla, I don't know where you were on Sunday but you and your hard workers were sorely missed.

The pub might be a great place - I didn't have time to check. There is a law now that you can't sit in your car with the engine running to take a call. So being a busy self employed person when my phone rang I pulled into this car park to take the call, unaware that it was a chargeable parking area.

Came for a lovely meal with some friends last Friday. We had a mixture of dishes I had the salmon nicoise was so lovely. We had a bottle of Prosecco which was great value and then lots of lovely gins. Thought everything was really reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly. Especially the manager Layla, always working hard and great at keeping our drinks topped up. We will be back thanks.

An absolute great range of Ales and always clean and served great service with a smile. Clean Bar and glasses also.

Went here for Sunday lunch. Food was a good standard we had the pie and mixed grill. What spoils it is the place itself. Sticky tables not properly wiped down, kids throwing themselves on the floor or playing arcade games on full volume. But the most bizarre was the barking dog....somebody had took their dog for a pint it barked all the way through dinner.

Have been many times and on this occasion had brought friends who had come for a visit. Great food, quick and friendly service and Layla the Manager is always there with a friendly hello and even remembers my favourite drink.

Would love this pub to live up to its former glory but currently looking very tired, run down and in need of a revamp. Staff welcoming, drinks good, child & dog friendly but food not great and surroundings tired and in need of a good clean. Good for a post park walk pint but could be so much.

For a pub that had a major refurb a couple of years ago, The Crown has had a slide into a right dump. Check out the yellow sticky tape that holds the flooring down or the gents toilet that is out of use, and when you try the other one, the floor is covered in piss and none of the hand dryers are working. I informed the friendly bar staff, and I got the old nonchalant “ we know” routine. The Crown used to be a great boozer and then the greedy Directors decided to charge for parking, so everyone blocked the surrounding streets to use the shops and now the place is dead. It’s supposed to be a community pub you blood sucking vampires, so you will no doubt reap what you sow Ember Inns, and the punters will choose to go to Mere Green instead.I’m sorry, but Crownstock is not enough to save you. The beer is still good when you can find someone to serve you, as there is only two stall on duty. The place is rough, it needs a damn good clean and until then I’m going to vote with my feet and go elsewhere until the Crown sorts itself out, as at the moment it’s absolutely rubbish apart from the funny anonymous bloke who can change the TV channel to Babe Station, much to the annoyance of the staff. A sad decline indeed for a once great Four Oaks boozer.

Attended for first time on a late afternoon. Service good and staff friendly. Outside as is usual these days dogs are allowed. As sun was setting most moved to catch the last rays of sunshine. A group of middle aged men and one lady sat nearby.

Visited today for lunch with friends. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was very good-it was served quickly and was great-we all had the jacket potatoes. Also had the mini desserts with coffee. I have visited other Ember Inn pubs in the Sutton Coldfield area and none have the same atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, clean toilets!! Even the food tasted better here!!

Best food I’d had in ages!! Tim and Emily behind the bar are the reason I keep coming back. With Mere green so close the staff and service are keeping this pub competitive. Will keep coming back

We went for a Sunday lunch, and that meant that the car-parking was free, so a bonus there. The place was clean and today, and staff were friendly and helpful, and were good with the young children. We all enjoyed the food, although a slight criticism was that my gravy seemed very watery. That aside, a very good experience, and wouldn`t hesitate visiting again.

We visit the crown on a regular basis. The food is always nice and never really have to wait long. The staff are always friendly and still one of the cheapest places in Sutton to drink.

I was served by Emily and Jack and they couldn't have been more accommodating to my difficult drink orders, had a fantastic night and the staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

A pub with parking charges? Be warned all those who would like to nip into the Crown during daytime hours and purchase a pint of beer; in fact any purchase less than £5, for you will be charged a minimum of £1 to add on to your purchase .

I visit the Crown probably on a weekly basis over the last few years It’s a lovely vibrant community pub with most of the time, a great range of well kept ales and the curly haired girl who runs the place is a delight.

I recently visited on th way through to Sutton Coldfield Town Center. Up on arrival I was greeted by Staff members who looked like they where enjoying their jobs. Highly recommend the Ales as there is plenty of choice. Great House Ale is Ember Inns brewed by Black Sheep. I didn't know this so it's good to know Staff are trained on their Ale knowledge. Food was fantastic and we will definitely be making a return in the future.

We visited today and it happened to be a new menu, we decided on a few old favourites which were very well cooked and well presented. We did however try the new chicken tikka curry which was exceptional, great flavour even the rice. The staff were very welcoming and we were served quickly and I can’t think of one thing they could of done differently. Haven’t been this impressed with a local pub in a long time. Keep up the good work will definitely be back and I will be sure to tell anyone I see to try the new curry. Thank you.

We both had gammon which was cooked to perfection. However it was expensive for what was on our plates. Will we go back, no as we can get an equivalent meal far cheaper at The Old Irish Harp.

Food not too bad but the service was lack lustre. Unfortunately there was a shrill beeping from a malfunctioning fire alarm that was most intrusive and irritating. For health and safety reasons they could not turn it off or muffle the noise.

As an Ember Inn there’s not much to be surprised about in terms of food. Everything was turned out well and the staff are very pleasant.

I took my elderly mother out for Sunday dinner at The Crown on the Walsall Road. The first good thing was that, although there is pay and display in their car park, it has been suspended temporarily so we did not have to pay to park. We found a parking space quite close to the entrance as my mother has mobility issues.

I visited the Crown with a large group of ladies for brunch on a Saturday morning at about 10am. The tables had been reserved and everything was ready for us. The staff were welcoming and helpful, being very patient with some of the older members of the group and late comers. Orders were taken efficiently, hot drinks were delivered and the food arrived all together and hot. The brunch menu was extensive and good value for money, everyone enjoyed themselves and expressed a desire to return again soon.

Having jumped through the hoops entering your registration number and finding the exact £2 change (the contactless did not work ) for the 1 working car parking machine I went into the pub to order and pay for my meal and drink, then I remembered I could get my car parking ticket refunded, however the miserable looking girl at the bar said "you can only get a refund when spending over £5 and as you have already paid its now too late" So I guess the computer always says no.
