Lovely pub tucked away with good food , restaurant good size well decked out very nice place to eat definitely go again

I am a regular customer to the FHS and so happy to leave another review of my experience on Friday night. Positives The food was tasty and came out on time no issue. My favourite line was spoken: “This plate is very hot” After asking nearly every visit for cranberry sauce, finally some arrived which I was over the moon about :) Plates, cutlery and glasses all immaculately clean as well and a well presented table and clean floor. Negatives There was a table in the corner which was very loud. It’s Friday night at 9:30pm and the kids had iPads out at maximum volume. It’s a restaurant, I’m out with friends having a bottle of wine and I don’t want to hear peppa pig. In my opinion this should have been challenged. Everyone in the restaurant was looking at each other waiting for a manager to intervene but nothing was done. Groups of lads going into the toilet and coming out suddenly having heavy hay fever. The team are working really hard while on shift and I am sure do not have time to be sweeping the toilets for inappropriate behaviour but vigilance is needed. The dining chairs need some extra cushioning, they are really uncomfortable after an hour of sitting

Great place off the beaten track. Well worth a visit.

It was our anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate . We can't remember having such a wonderful time. We didn't have to wait for an age for our food . The service was excellent and the food supurb. It well worth paying a little bit extra for the evening

Sadly we experienced discrimination and neglect here. Drinks served were in a used glass, my wife pointed out, then staff changed the drink. Trust is lost. Food came after almost 35 minutes wait. Two other tables were being serviced as priority. Lots of fly from the garden entered the indoor seating. This could be due to the seafood we ordered. However when we mentioned the swarm of flys, the waiter responded with indifference that food and fly goes together. All in all we had high hopes, but it seems we were not welcome at this place.

Booked for a Sunday lunchtime for 5 people, 4 of us has roasts and the other had a chicken burger. The roasts were all excellent, very tasty and veg options were really nice. The chicken burger was also enjoyed too. Desserts were nice too although the sticky toffee pudding is more of a hot toffee cake than a traditional sticky toffee pudding however very tasty. Service was quite slow however friendly and polite.

The Asian salad was delicious and quite big, I couldn't finish it.

Went to the pub at Lunchtime. Fairly regularly we attend this pub. It needs to be said that the bar person, a male with short dark hair is one of the rudest individuals I’ve ever had the displeasure of being served by. It’s not the first time, he seems to be rude to a lot of people. Almost offended that you are in the pub buying a drink. I was godsmacked by his abrupt manner. Other than that this place is great with really good food.

So was looking forward to eating here as heard some great things, but got there and they had a wedding function and the kitchen closed, totally our fault. This is why I can’t give any stars for food. Ordered a few drinks and the bartender was rude and miserable, he split a drink towards us luckily enough we moved quickly, but there was no apology just more sour looks. There was no interaction, no politeness and no customer service. If it hadn’t been for this person I would have gone back to try the food, but not now.

Nice pub garden outside the front and back. There is a big carpark and the portions are a very good size

A hidden gem, great food & lovely staff. Only had nachos & a burger but so very well done. The best nachos I've ever tasted & a proper veggie burger. As a vegetarian I've struggled in the last few years to get a good veggie burger since pretend meat, ie 'plant' burgers became a thing (yuk!) if I wanted to taste meat I wouldn't have gone veggie! This was a 'garden ' burger, full of veggies 😋. Well done,The Four Horseshoes.

We dined here for a family occasion and because all the food was preordered prior to our arrival, the food came out very quickly. The food I ate was very tasty and of good quality however in my opinion I don’t think that the portion sizes where that big but nonetheless the food was enjoyable including chilli topped fries which were good and the bacon cheeseburger which was juicy and flavoursome! I would return again in the future.

I have been here a few times now and been meaning to write a review. Booked last minute Friday night and was lucky enough to get a table at 8pm. The staff are always welcoming and the place has a nice feel to it, lovely decor. The food is in my opinion excellent, we had the nachos to start, I had haddock and chips and all was pipping hot & tasted delicious - the fish was crispy battered but melt in your mouth, perfect. You will be waited on by polite, well presented staff who have been there a while so can answer any questions you may have. Car park is literally across the road with plenty of spaces, would come back here time and time again. Had such a nice time I forgot to take any photos! Well done to all the staff, you really are what other venues should aspire to be. 10/10!

A stunning country pub with very tasteful decor (I need to know the shade of blue on the restaurant walls!) the food is absolutely astounding! I have had the chicken supreme twice now because it’s just so tasty!! The scotch egg went down too quick for a photo. Can’t help but go for three courses because I don’t want to miss a tasty morsel. Parking is easy at the car park across the road. You may need to book in advance as it’s that good! Would highly recommend! Service is great too.

Very disappointed with my meal today I’m not sure how the chef managed to burn my chicken burger but the chef did. When I mentioned it to the lovely waitress she said she would get me another meal. When it arrived 10 mins later the man said it would be taken off the bill. When we came to pay the bill the same member of staff didn’t take my meal off the bill I mentioned to him that he said it would be taken off the bill he then denied he said this and then went on to argue with me saying you had another meal was it ok well then, and charged my husband. I feel this is very poor service as I had to sit there while all my friends ate their food then I had to eat my meal alone. This isn’t good enough service. Maybe The four horseshoes need to teach this member of staff some manners as without customers coming in through the doors he wouldn’t have a job. Also I never make complaints. I feel very let down.

Went here for my birthday lunch. Was not what I was expecting. Beautiful interior & the food was amazing . Happy memories made

The first time we've been here and we left disheartened. Nice pub, nice staff, lovely food. Very very slow service. (And it wasnt fully booked) We were there for 3 hours and only had a main meal and one drink. The table wasn't cleared for over 1.5Hr after eating, and we had to ask for the bill 3 times before we caved and received the bill ourselves from the bar. Personally I'm stuck as to whether I'd come back or not. Hoping it was just a bad day!

We were looking for a good venue for a long lunch and catch up with friends. We definitely chose the right place. Delicious Steak and Stilton pie…

Great food and great big Garden

What a gem, love the colour scheme, decor and the food was really great. All the family really enjoyed their meals - steak, chicken burger, chicken supreme. Really disappointed to miss out on a pudding, they look amazing! Already planning when we can revisit to sample one! My mother in law struggled with the acoustics as it's a lovely big restaurant room at the back of the pub, but looks great so will definitely return.

Didn’t start well had to wait 15 mins for drinks, had to reorder as our drinks order had been lost. Got to be really honest service was a little slow for a Tuesday night. Yes the service was slow but no means poor, very few staff who were over whelmed for a Tuesdays bar and restaurant was packed out. Katherine the waitress was a very professional and calm, she could only work as quick as she could, and the same could be said of one on the bar and the another chap waiting on tables. Food was excellent and with one more member of staff things would have been better for all. Lovely place great decor and as for the vents toilets amazing. It was nice to see a good vegetarian choice with the added extra of adding a meat choice to it. Not seen this before. I love my veg and also a big meat eater and often when dinning out ask if I can have ham, sausage or other meats to add to a vegetarian meal as sometimes these are a better choice. Nice touch.

What a brillant find this pub was. Not much to look at from outside but lovely inside. Service was excellent and they all looked so smart in their uniforms. Nothing was too much trouble and if you asked for anything they were straight back with it. Food was really good too.

Lovely cute traditional large welcome pub. Not far located from the motorway , I loved this very old pub . Has a few drinks here , it’s a busy pub and the food looks great .

We had yet another perfect meal here, served by friendly staff members. Lovely, to have such a wonderful local pub on our doorstep. I wish they catered more for families, especially in the summer.

Fantastic atmosphere and decor, food was great (props to the chef on the plating) only thing stopping me giving this a 5 star was the service, being a former manager of a 5 star hotel im not stranger to how busy a Sunday lunch service can actually be , but staff attitudes is appalling over simple things, missed Yorkshire pudding for a hungry 3 year old, menu advertised roast chicken served with cauliflower cheese when question no explanation just they'd look into it and it never arrived ,ordered 5 pots of tea got 4 when asking for the extra after we'd already paid at this point for everything too, no apology and they weren't even quick back I had to chase it so by the time we actually go it everyone else had finished and to finish it who I assume was the manager gent dressed in a shirt not like the staff uniform looked bizarre when we asked to remove the service charge explained why half hearted apology but did remove the service charge.

The whole experience was very good until the coffee came. It looked weak and when we tried it there was no taste to it at all. If they would change the coffee then we would give the place 5 stars.

The food here was really good. I had 3 courses: Salt and pepper squid, chicken and leek pie (specials), with the star of the show being the crème brulé. This came with a scoop of berry sorbet and a couple of sizable slabs of white chocolate with raspberries in it. Very rich, and finished off the meal perfectly. All the courses were amazing. Not the cheapest, but well worth the money. The gin menu was rather extensive, with the cocktail menu giving the usual suspects and some interesting soft drinks. My only observation would be attention to drinks on the table. The check back took a while and then no more drinks were offered before any of us had a chance to think about it. Not a big issue, just something that we noticed. Overall, a great time and amazing food.

We had a late valentines lunch. 3 fabulous courses, beautiful decor and attentive but not intrusive service. Will definitely return!

Very elegant pub-restaurant, with an amazing atmosphere, good food, and definitely dog friendly service. Food was good. it was a shame that only the burger arrived plain with no side salad or slaw. Staff friendly. Toilets clean.

Valentine meal. Food very good and sufficient choice. The restaurant is a lovely place to eat with tasteful decor. The negatives were the speed at which the main meal followed the starter, this would have happened with dessert if we had not told the waitress to wait. The meal felt rushed which did spoil the evening, next time visit we will make sure we request a break between courses. Another negative was we weren't asked at any point of we needed more drinks. The cost of the Valentine meal was a bit expensive but good quality.

I was supposed to be celebrating my father’s 91st birthday but when booking I ask to put one birthday small banner up on a window . I had no reply so didn’t think it would be a problem. On arrival to put the banner up on the day I was told by Adam I couldn’t he would allow it . I asked why I didn’t receive a response when placing the booking on their website ? And he said they had a new website? The greeting I received was less than welcoming I wasn’t asking to put the banner on the paint work just the window. After telling him my disappointment he still wasn’t happy with me putting the happy birthday banner up, and pulled it down !! Yes I did call him a descriptive word as he did upset me, so he proceeded to cancel my booking told me I wasn’t welcome an hour before the guests arrived from Basingstoke. So all I have to say to Adam is thank you for the welcoming greeting on arrival because of your lack of customer service you lost £200 as i took my fathers celebration dinner elsewhere, and will continue to spread the word that it may be a great looking local pub but as a local I will not be coming in anymore and will be spreading the news around the village to others. It used to be a lovely local but clearly the change in managers has affected the foot fall as talking to neighbours tonight they too feel the same , it has stopped bring a local where you can walk in and get a smile and a friendly greeting ! Thank you Sister pub Duke on the Test you did my dad proud tonight and my family are glad you don’t follow the same values as the four horse shoes . If you want good service and a better, more varied and tasty menu go to the Duke on the test instead.

Lovely building and atmosphere. Couple if stars off for service as was a very long wait at the bar.

I hate being cheated, don’t you ? But THIS pub is fab. Hard to find! But… Honest, great food ( the beef roast is Excellent) - couple more crispy spuds, perhaps? It’s dog- friendly , an honest product with smiling, charming staff. Cracking outdoor area, too. They’ve thought of everything. Really recommended. We’re 30 miles away but will be back, Hoh yes.

Just had a fabulous lunch with my two friends, i had gambas pil pil to start and the chicken supreme with dauphinoise potatoes for my main. Both delicous and well presented, the two waitresses that served us where lovely and smartly dressed. Its a shame i live in portsmouth as i would come here more often!

Lovely Sunday roasts with loads of veg & friendly service.

The Four Horseshoes is an excellent pub/restaurant and we've been several times before. Last week we went again and the food and service were excellent and we were sat in the library area. However, our experience was somewhat spoilt by the two ladies who came in with their two uncontrolled small children who were allowed to scream, cry, yell and race around the pub. I know the mothers should be held responsible but management, please don't be afraid to tell people to please get their children to settle down and to consider other peoples' enjoyment. Sorry if I sound like Victor Meldrew but it really was beyond a joke.

Sunday Lunch meeting family it was a halfway point between Poole and Alton. A wonderful find, a lovely pub and dining area was good. All the staff looked immaculate in their uniforms. Our Lunch was really good with a great assortment of vegetables. The staff were friendly if a little unaware of their diners, 5 at one till chatting! We would go again.

It's a pretty place, food was good. Service was really slow though and not attentive. We probably wouldn't come back because of it.

Really nice pub. Nice decor. Food lovely aswell but personally i think its a little over priced. I had a small bowl of soup which was delicious but £7.50.

We travel from North Yorkshire and have visited this place several times over the last few months. Always have a delicious meal, had steak today and it was superb. The staff are really friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere is great, very warm and welcoming. We will most certainly be coming again and would highly recommend it. Thank you.

Great decor and nice atmosphere. Food was average for the price. Not great value. My burger was very dry, and left much of it. Service was ok, food slow to come out, but staff were friendly.

We arrived and two of our party were delayed. We took photos of the menu and sent to our friends so we were able to place our orders before the party of 28 whose arrival we had been warned of. Excellent food. Friendly efficient staff. A totally relaxed and enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings- apart from the drippy weather which couldn't be helped. We're going back again - soon.

We were desperate for a dessert after we received a very terrible service from the chilworth arms for dinner. We rang the four horseshoes to book a table for desserts and we were welcomed with open arms. 🤗. Staff were friendly. Smiling. Tables were cleared in a very professional manner. Amazing staff . So sorry team we missed out on your food but all of our desserts were delicious. Would definitely be coming back soon. Keep up with the good standards. You are way above any expectations.

Lunchtime catch up for couple of beers and food. Great staff, great choices

Ruined a 38th wedding anniversay. It was noted on the reservation that this was an anniversary dinner. After 30 minutes our starters had not arrived. On querying how much longer we were told they wanted to clear a large table first, but that our glasses of wine were on them. A further 45 minutes later, still nothing. Only when my husband went to the head waitress to complain, did our starters get delivered to the table. By this time I had lost my appetite. Considering how long the starters took, we were not prepared to wait on mains and left.

AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER! Booked a dinner for 2 for a 38th Wedding Anniversary. Placed our order for simple starters - prawns and artisinal bread with basil pesto. After 30 minutes enquired how much longer to be told "we're just trying to clear the big table, but you can have your glasses of wine on us". Waited a further 45 minutes and still nothing. Husband went to the head waitress (no manager on duty!!) at which point the starters were hurriedly brought out. No longer had any appetite for the meal and elected to leave. It didn't bear thinking how long we would wait for our mains (sirloin steaks) if the starters took an hour and a quarter to arrive. THANKS FOR RUINING MY ANNIVERSARY DINNER Four Horseshoes. We won't be back .

A very impressive venue, beautifully decorated. We went for Sunday lunch and all enjoyed our roasts. The vegan option of a roast of just veg and potatoes although well executed left me very hungry within a couple of hours. Not sure why they have chosen not to add a nut roast or wellington to the dish. I would definitely return if they improved their vegan offerings.

Good service okay food, but extremely stuffy, we had to ask twice for a window to be opened, they said it couldn't be done in case it rained ( it wasn't raining) they finally opened the fire escape much to everyone's relief.

Brilliant.Best roast we have had in ages. 10 out of 10. Tasty, hot, lots of veg and extra gravy without having to ask. Will definitely be back soon

Me and two friends came to the Four Horseshoes on thursday evening as we had herd about their curry night. This being a place we like to eat at often we thought we would give it a go, and we were not disapointed at all absoloutley outstanding food and service might i add. We all ordered from the curry menu i uad the lamb rogan josh and my two friends both had the chicken tikka masala all equally as dilicous, and great value for money. Will definetely be back again!

I’ve not been here since 2016, way before the refurb and if the Four Horseshoes was good then (it was) then it’s excellent now. The staff were attentive and friendly and the decor seemed to be a modern take on the original pub in a way. The Gluten Free food was delicious. The pie of the day comes with a GF option which was amazing. It’s been so long since I ate a decent GF pie and this one was lovely. Massive compliments to the chef there. My only regret was that I was too full for pudding, so I look forward to coming back to try that soon. All in all a really pleasant experience. Thanks FH.

Really nice pub. Driven last here loads of times but decided to try and find our way to the entrance from the motorway junction. It was a fantastic find, between us we had Mac and cheese, burger, a sandwich, a pie of the day-beer and Stilton, all delicious and my daughter also had dessert, an extremely yummy sticky toffee pudding. Will return.

Came here Alone whilst away for work and what a lovely pub! the food was lovely and not too bad for price considering the portion size and how nice it was. The feel of the place was also very nice with an open fire and nice bar. Would definitely recommend. The staff were also very nice will definitely be visiting again if I am ever in the area!

Had my birthday meal here this evening 19/10/2023. I was Extremely impressed with the whole experience, the food was excellent, staff were smartly dressed with impeccable customer service. The decor was beautiful and cosy with an open fire in the bar area. We'll pleased, this will be a regular place for me to visit.

We visited with friends & our mini dachshund, early evening. It was surprisingly busy but were seated quickly, next to a lovely couple and their cute dog. The pups quickly made friends, which was brilliant. The menu had so many lovely dishes it was hard to choose! We shared some of the nibbles to start - olives, bread, squid, whitebait & scampi - all delicious! Mains were sea bass, duck & steaks, all beautifully presented & tasty. Unfortunately, no room for desserts although they sounded very tempting. Will definitely be back, maybe swap starters for desserts next time.

This is a lovely place with an excellent menu. I really enjoyed the meal. Easy to park. Lots of space. Excellent for a gathering.

We are locals to the Four Horseshoes and it is our go to place for drinks or dinner. The staff especially Elaine are amazing and being celiac they know their stuff and I have never had a reaction.

Staff very friendly and the food choice was really interesting one of our party has a GF diet and he had several choices and he was very happy. Fish and chips fish was very fresh, mushy peas was tasty, but skin on chips lovely. The pasta linguini and Prawns was devine as were the sweets. Excellent.

Online reservation made, but after no response ( hour or so after ), I followed this up with a phone call. I called up and said I was chasing an online reservation for today, to which the employee immediately hung up on me. A few moments later I got a text back rejecting my online reservation. Clearly the employee couldn't be bothered to verbally tell me this!! Not the type of customer service I expect from this company.....as a regular here, I'll be considering my options in the future before making a booking. Poor show!

We came in for lunch and the food was good. Service was good until we got our food then we were forgotten a bit. Had to go in and find the server to order coffee

I had heard good things about the food here, so decided to take my Two Daughters and my youngests botfriend to a late sunday lunch (booked an outside table). We arrived promptly at 2.30 and were shown to a table inside, not a problem this was fixed and shown to a table outside and informed that drinks were to be ordered at the table. So we waited (It wasn't busy at that time).. 20 minutes later, nothing so I went inside to the bar and ordered drinks and was helpen back to the table with them. 15 minutes later still nothing, so I went inside and asked if someone could come and take our order, so not a good start. Apologies were made and we ordered. I was relaxed and we had a good family time, we ate the food which was excellent. We paid the bill and went to leave, walking from the garden down the side of the pub past a large mixed group. Two of the obviously drunk men in the group (locals I think) then decided to take issue with my daughter's boyfriend over his tatoos (I think) and harrassed him, obviously trying to intimidate him. Not very pleasant,

Food was lovely, and the pub was welcoming and well decorated. They had a wide range of drinks, and the waitresses were all polite and helped up decide what food to get. There was a lovely environment and food was exceptional. Will definitely return if we come back to Southampton in future.

My wife had tempura broccoli which was fantastic. Chorizo Aranchini are the best I’ve had in a long time. Haddock n chips were massive and crispy till the last few bites. My wife’s risotto was well made as people in the past haven’t got it right. Well done to the 4 🐎 shoes. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Lovely pub on the outskirts of Southampton! Great atmosphere and very welcoming. Has a classic country pub feel with great selection of food and drinks.

Very enjoyable visit. The food was excellent, fresh ingredients, and very well prepared and presented. Lovely dining area too.

Stopped here on the way back from the coast. Food was really nice and there was a good selection of difference dishes. The staff was friendly and helpful. Really nice atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Would recommend.

It's worth the effort to get there.

Really great visit this afternoon for Sunday lunch. Food was brilliant and the service was excellent - really friendly staff. Only downside was the live music at 16:30. It went from a chilled atmosphere in the restaurant to a guy blaring out songs which resulted in unintended consequences of nobody being able to hear each other. We gave dessert a miss although the menu looked good
