Great pub with a modern feel but still has character. Open fires and leather chairs etc. Food is great, a little more expensive than your average pub but this is reflected in the quality. Great beer garden and ample parking. Dog friendly too. Probably the best pub in the Nursling/Rownhams area.

Booked table for 3 Sat night. Extremely busy in restaurant but staff were smiling, welcome & extremely helpful & polite. The whole place was running like well oiled machine! The food was absolutely beautifully cooked, very fresh and flavours wonderful. As always so impressed - unbeatable as far as we are concerned. Never ever been disappointed. We will always return. Thankyou so much to all staff especially the chef !

What a hidden gem - we were looking for a pub to stop for lunch on our way to Southampton - it's 5mins from the M27 and soooooo much better than Rownham Services or any other services to be honest. Warm, friendly welcome, great menu, accommodated my egg allergy. Scrummy-licious and tasty food and great prices - excellent decor in the gents - highly recommended

A great place! The pub is beautiful, with very stylish decor. Extremely clean and tidy, in bar, restaurant area and restrooms. The food was of a very high standard. Very tasty, and well presented, served by very friendly and helpful staff. Prices were as I would expect for the standard of food and service.

Pub looks great after its refit and also had ample outside seating across the road.

Love coming here...welcoming, nice atmosphere. However very disappointed to hear they are no longer serving Aspall cider. This made your pub different to all the others in the area. A proper cider rather than all these sweet options.

Our last visit was a bit disappointing, slow service and the food wasn't up to it's usual standard

Jamie the barman always looks after us so well and remembers our order. The pub had a lovely feel to it and is very dog friendly. A perfect spot for a meal or just stopping off for a drink.

Arrived and Jamie was already on point pouring my drink before I reached the bar with his usual warm and friendly welcome. Knows all the local crowd and looks after them very well and always on point with what everyone drinks.

Great pub very stylish and modern. We booked to go and food was so good we went again the next night. Service was rather slow but didn’t mind as food was top tier

we decided to go for a beer this sat 5/4/25, having been to the pub on several occasions before. it was a lovely sunny day and it has a teriffic garden. there was a young lad barman working his balls off as he was on his own with alot of people waiting for service from the garden mostly. the wait became too long as this poor lad had nobody helping him. will be visiting again as it is a lovely pub but maybe it needs planning staffwise when you get a warm day and the garden is busy.

Having been to its sister pub, The Duke at Romsey, we thought we'd try the Four Horseshoes. Very light and well decorated. However, the food was rather mediocre. The Fish and Chips was disappointing, the fish being very small. We commented on this to the waitress who said she would pass our comments to the chef but nothing further came of this. She said they were a separate entity to The Duke. We said we'd noticed larger portions of fish being served to other customers. A scoop of ìce cream was rammed into the bottom of a sundae dish and was melting upon service. We were then just left, so we made our way to the till, paid and left.

Good decor, nice wines, friendly staff.

Had a wonderful meal here with friends, the food was amazing, it tasted delicious. We all had something different from the menu and we all enjoyed our meals

Service was friendly but our orders got muddled up, with one side being delivered a long time before the rest of the food, then other sides or meal items missing when the mains arrived, but these issues were resolved quickly when raised. The food was delicious and very well presented with good portions.

The food was delicious, I only have one constructive comment. The beef gave the initial impression it was tough. The meat was tender once you had it in your mouth. The blunt knife gave the meat a false impression. Please sharpen your knives. I wasn’t the only one mentioning the blunt knife. My wife who has arthritis in her hands had to take the meat home for the dogs. Otherwise great

A small detour off the motorway brings you to the four Hourseshoes. A great place for a meal or a light bite. The place has a welcoming feel about it. The food is reasonably priced and the service is good

First time for Sunday lunch- excellent food, service and environment. I remember this as a pub many many years ago but wow, what a transformation - roast beef lunch was extremely tasty.

We arrange a family lunch for my father in law’s 90th birthday. There was 21 of us varying from 1 year old to 90 year old. We had fabulous food including roasts and children meals. Everything came out at the same time, hot and exactly what had been ordered. The service was very good, with smiles and they couldn’t have done enough for us on this special day. Thank you

Staff rude, food dry and when sent back nobody came over to tell us the outcome! Asked for the bill as nobody came back to our table only to be charged full price for everything including the two main meals which were both dry and overcooked, chef said it was absolutely fine and really juicy which was not the case at all! Was only offered 10% off which considering we didn’t eat it is absolutely ridiculous! Will not return….

If I could give this pub 10 stars I would. The staff are welcoming, the decor and atmosphere are lovely and the food amazing! I had pork belly and I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had!!! Thank you so much -

We had our Christmas party here of a party of 8. Food was lovely staff really helpful and made sure we were all ok during our visit. Would recommend been before and never had a bad experience.

A group of us booked the Four Horseshoes for our post-Christmas meal. As there was quite a few people, they asked for deposits and pre orders from the party. The menu gave us a good choice, including the Festive Burger from the Christmas menu. The deposits were easily paid using a link provided by the restaurant, and all communication was clear and helpful. On the night we were looked after very well, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food arrived together, with everything as it should be, and it was delicious. Our party had selected a range of dishes from burgers, to belly pork, pie of the day, haddock and chips, pasta and steak. Everyone enjoyed their food. Would definitely book and visit again in the future.

Excelente servicio y menú, los declarantes (calamares, jamón hock) eran increíbles. Las tuberías principales eran deliciosas, sin duda recomiendo el cordero rogan josh o la merluza.

Dour, soulless, over priced dining. Asked if we could be re-seated only to be told all other tables were reserved. At least 2 same size tables remained empty for our stay. Food under cooked and zero atmosphere in no small part from non smiling staff..

My favourite pub for Sunday roast. Unbeatable!!!

This was our 3rd visit to the pub. Today the service was very slow, the restaurant area was cold. We had to ask for drinks and we weren't offered the dessert menu. We weren't the only ones waiting to be served. The food was lovely though.

Habíamos reservado una mesa para 7. 15 y llegaron un poco antes y fueron mostrados a nuestra mesa después de unos minutos. Pasaron otros 5 minutos antes de que una camarera viniera a ver qué bebidas queríamos y estas aparecieron después de otros 10 minutos. ( 5 chicos fuera un viernes por la noche, sólo piensa en la pérdida de ingresos! ) Pasaron otros 20 minutos antes de que alguien viniera a tomar nuestro pedido de comida y otros 15 minutos antes de que llegara, es decir, 50 minutos desde que nos sentamos a comer. No es como si el lugar estaba lleno, que fue una sorpresa para un viernes por la noche un par de semanas antes de Navidad, pero supongo que podría tener algo que ver con el mal servicio y no era apenas lo que yo llamo precio razonable (50 libras la cabeza incluyendo 7 cervezas). La calidad de la comida estaba bien, pero ninguno de nosotros deliró al respecto, así que diría que es poco probable que ninguno de nosotros va a volver en el corto plazo.

Vinimos en un viaje espontáneo con mi pareja a las cuatro herraduras esta noche alrededor de las 7 pm (viernes 13 de diciembre) no habíamos reservado una mesa. Cuando llegamos, el bar y el restaurante parecían estar completamente llenos, y pensamos que nuestra suerte estaba fuera. Hablamos con la gerente que era encantador, nos encontró una mesa para nuestra sorpresa. Pedimos nuestra comida en ambos platos donde excelente un saludo especial a la barriga de cerdo y los langostinos pil pil absolutamente excepcional el crepitar me boquiabierto la luz de la bocanada, pero todavía crujiente el chef está en un ganador allí. En general, una experiencia increíble y un excelente servicio de las damas en una noche tan concurrida un crédito a las cuatro herraduras, nunca parece decepcionar al mejor pub!

This is a return visit although it was quite a while back I last visited, the online booking was very easy and the service and the quality of the food were impeccable. We were very happy and would be most welcome to recommend anyone to visit

Very nicely kept pint of bitter, friendly staff

I popped in 28th November with friends after a local walk. The atmosphere and service was perfect. My only minor criticism was ...they ought to hold a wider stock of ales, particularly stout and IPA.

Very disappointing. We walked in to a small bar area with a guitarist/singer playing second rate music very loudly. Our table was in the central area and with the singer and close tables the noise was such that I could hardly hear most of what my neighbour was saying - and almost impossible to hear my wife who was sitting opposite me! On a Saturday evening at 7.30 they had no steaks available! The sevice for both drinks and food was very slow and we felt overcharged on the bill. As we left I said 'I won't be coming here again which our party of seven all agreed! A shame as it is a good size, good furniture and decor but let down by the most important things in a restaurant!

Lovely food, service was a little slow today, unsure why.

Known this pub for over 30 years and the recent overhaul is excellent. Draught beer is spot on and the food is real quality, not cheap but worth the extra. Staff were very attentive and we were served in good time, considering a few big tables had pre booked and arrived after us. Check out the gents😂

What a lovely place to eat we has two of the lamb one stake and Stilton pie, i ordered the burger with blue cheese that did not meet my expectations this was resolved very quickly i remember a visit if you are in the area.

More than toilets! Amazing toilets, food and service. Such a great pub and so worth the dive to a cul de sac with excellent parking. Wish I had taken more photos, next time I will.

I don’t know if the personnel know what customer service means. We entered the restaurant on a Sunday evening and waited at the reception to be seated. Staff were coming and going at the desk in front of us for some time, not even acknowledging our presence. What is the self proclaimed premium pub title referring to exactly? Didn’t see a premium customer experience for sure. I think they can do better than that.

After the first course, we had to go and find a menu for desserts and then we had to go and find someone to take our order since no staff appeared to serve us. Shame as food is great.

My second visit here for lunch. Had "classic fish and chips" this time. Not up to standard of last visit. Did not like the batter which was hard on one side and soggy on the other. Left half the batter and some of the chips.

Held my fathers wake there. They could not have been more helpful. The food was fantastic and more than hoped for. The atmosphere in the bar was nice and cosy with tables reserved for us. Has always been a good pub, one of my locals when I was younger. Highly recommended.

Visité los Cuatro Zapatos de Caballo, ya que descubrí que está dirigido por la misma gente que El Duque en la Prueba que me gusta. No me decepcionó, y pude ver similitudes entre ambos. Recibimos una cálida bienvenida, y el personal fue servicial y agradable durante toda nuestra visita.

The old saying you get what you pay for..... You'll pay more than that average pub. But. It's worth every penny. Food is of a high quality and well kept place. Highly recommended if you have good standards

We had Sunday lunch here today for my daughter's birthday. We are not local, we chose The Four Horseshoes because a) the reviews were good, and b) it's proximity to the university. I must say the reviews were not wrong. From my initial enquiry for a group of 11, right through to paying the bill, the customer service was exemplary - professional, good natured, and light hearted. The food was also excellent - piping hot and delicious. The well priced special offer on the white Muscadet was excellent value. We will definitely be back!

Service has been welcoming each time I’ve been in to the Four Horseshoes. Never a bad visit. Have had meals here before which I thoroughly enjoyed and tried the Beef Roast (finally!) this evening. Definitely didn’t disappoint. Never had a bad meal here. The price of the food is reflective of the quality… this includes the children’s menus (my children thoroughly enjoy their meals at the Four Horseshoes, too!) I look forward to my next Sunday Roast (or any other meal for that matter!). I’d definitely recommend visiting here if you want a decent meal! Thank you, Four Horseshoes 😊

Love this old school pub with modern management

Place has really changed now. Not quite the old village pub it once was, but for a nice treat, this place is hard to beat. Food is tasty, but portion size is a little mean

It was our son’s 30th birthday and no acknowledgement from the staff of it. The hospitality was poor, we were not asked how was the food or if we needed more drinks, upon leaving, there were no “goodbye, thanks for coming”. Our bill was over £300 and I wish I had asked for the service charge that was automatically added, to have been removed. The food was ok, if a little overpriced.

I am a regular customer to the FHS and so happy to leave another review of my experience on Friday night. Positives The food was tasty and came out on time no issue. My favourite line was spoken: “This plate is very hot” After asking nearly every visit for cranberry sauce, finally some arrived which I was over the moon about :) Plates, cutlery and glasses all immaculately clean as well and a well presented table and clean floor. Negatives There was a table in the corner which was very loud. It’s Friday night at 9:30pm and the kids had iPads out at maximum volume. It’s a restaurant, I’m out with friends having a bottle of wine and I don’t want to hear peppa pig. In my opinion this should have been challenged. Everyone in the restaurant was looking at each other waiting for a manager to intervene but nothing was done. Groups of lads going into the toilet and coming out suddenly having heavy hay fever. The team are working really hard while on shift and I am sure do not have time to be sweeping the toilets for inappropriate behaviour but vigilance is needed. The dining chairs need some extra cushioning, they are really uncomfortable after an hour of sitting

It was our anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate . We can't remember having such a wonderful time. We didn't have to wait for an age for our food . The service was excellent and the food supurb. It well worth paying a little bit extra for the evening

Sadly we experienced discrimination and neglect here. Drinks served were in a used glass, my wife pointed out, then staff changed the drink. Trust is lost. Food came after almost 35 minutes wait. Two other tables were being serviced as priority. Lots of fly from the garden entered the indoor seating. This could be due to the seafood we ordered. However when we mentioned the swarm of flys, the waiter responded with indifference that food and fly goes together. All in all we had high hopes, but it seems we were not welcome at this place.

Booked for a Sunday lunchtime for 5 people, 4 of us has roasts and the other had a chicken burger. The roasts were all excellent, very tasty and veg options were really nice. The chicken burger was also enjoyed too. Desserts were nice too although the sticky toffee pudding is more of a hot toffee cake than a traditional sticky toffee pudding however very tasty. Service was quite slow however friendly and polite.

The Asian salad was delicious and quite big, I couldn't finish it.

Went to the pub at Lunchtime. Fairly regularly we attend this pub. It needs to be said that the bar person, a male with short dark hair is one of the rudest individuals I’ve ever had the displeasure of being served by. It’s not the first time, he seems to be rude to a lot of people. Almost offended that you are in the pub buying a drink. I was godsmacked by his abrupt manner. Other than that this place is great with really good food.

So was looking forward to eating here as heard some great things, but got there and they had a wedding function and the kitchen closed, totally our fault. This is why I can’t give any stars for food. Ordered a few drinks and the bartender was rude and miserable, he split a drink towards us luckily enough we moved quickly, but there was no apology just more sour looks. There was no interaction, no politeness and no customer service. If it hadn’t been for this person I would have gone back to try the food, but not now.

A hidden gem, great food & lovely staff. Only had nachos & a burger but so very well done. The best nachos I've ever tasted & a proper veggie burger. As a vegetarian I've struggled in the last few years to get a good veggie burger since pretend meat, ie 'plant' burgers became a thing (yuk!) if I wanted to taste meat I wouldn't have gone veggie! This was a 'garden ' burger, full of veggies 😋. Well done,The Four Horseshoes.

We dined here for a family occasion and because all the food was preordered prior to our arrival, the food came out very quickly. The food I ate was very tasty and of good quality however in my opinion I don’t think that the portion sizes where that big but nonetheless the food was enjoyable including chilli topped fries which were good and the bacon cheeseburger which was juicy and flavoursome! I would return again in the future.

I have been here a few times now and been meaning to write a review. Booked last minute Friday night and was lucky enough to get a table at 8pm. The staff are always welcoming and the place has a nice feel to it, lovely decor. The food is in my opinion excellent, we had the nachos to start, I had haddock and chips and all was pipping hot & tasted delicious - the fish was crispy battered but melt in your mouth, perfect. You will be waited on by polite, well presented staff who have been there a while so can answer any questions you may have. Car park is literally across the road with plenty of spaces, would come back here time and time again. Had such a nice time I forgot to take any photos! Well done to all the staff, you really are what other venues should aspire to be. 10/10!

A stunning country pub with very tasteful decor (I need to know the shade of blue on the restaurant walls!) the food is absolutely astounding! I have had the chicken supreme twice now because it’s just so tasty!! The scotch egg went down too quick for a photo. Can’t help but go for three courses because I don’t want to miss a tasty morsel. Parking is easy at the car park across the road. You may need to book in advance as it’s that good! Would highly recommend! Service is great too.

Very disappointed with my meal today I’m not sure how the chef managed to burn my chicken burger but the chef did. When I mentioned it to the lovely waitress she said she would get me another meal. When it arrived 10 mins later the man said it would be taken off the bill. When we came to pay the bill the same member of staff didn’t take my meal off the bill I mentioned to him that he said it would be taken off the bill he then denied he said this and then went on to argue with me saying you had another meal was it ok well then, and charged my husband. I feel this is very poor service as I had to sit there while all my friends ate their food then I had to eat my meal alone. This isn’t good enough service. Maybe The four horseshoes need to teach this member of staff some manners as without customers coming in through the doors he wouldn’t have a job. Also I never make complaints. I feel very let down.

The first time we've been here and we left disheartened. Nice pub, nice staff, lovely food. Very very slow service. (And it wasnt fully booked) We were there for 3 hours and only had a main meal and one drink. The table wasn't cleared for over 1.5Hr after eating, and we had to ask for the bill 3 times before we caved and received the bill ourselves from the bar. Personally I'm stuck as to whether I'd come back or not. Hoping it was just a bad day!
