Theakstons best on gas. Then usual lagers. Staff friendly. Lots of banter going on around the pub so seems popular.

Great pub with new owners. Freehold now so a great choice of beers etc. Pool table is back & has a fruit machine. One of very few pubs that has a quiz machine too. Outside tables for the summer 💖💖💖

What a lovely day we spent today. Food amazing large portions. Pardon the pun. Would recommend to everyone. Three course dinner.

Bad service and attitude dont recommend it at all. If u don’t like something food/Drink they wont give a….. u have paid for that is u wont get refund or anything back the staff doesn’t give a …. About the bad food I’ve ordered food and smells so bad so of course they told me is brand new and blah blah blah and then eventually I didn’t defy a refund or even sorry they Kicked me out Becos they had ppl wants to fight with us. I KNOW THE OWNER GONNA READ THAT AND I GUESS HE WONT GIVE A ….. Becos if he is he would fix right away that’s what pro does but u r not :) …I WILL NEVER GO BACK.

The staff are very helpful but the place was empty. The food was nice. Two of us ordered extra's, but they didn't get any of the potatoes or vegetables that should be with the meal and were changed for the extras. All meals were served on cold plates. Overall poor quality for the price.

Fantastic pub would definitely go again

The Four Fathoms is under new management. We had Sunday lunch in the bar area today with our four legged friend. Stuffed chicken was cooked to order and the lamb was very succulent and tasty. If your are after a Sunday lunch this will not disappoint. The Organic Chardonnay was very nice too.

Came in with the dog for Sunday lunch at 2.30pm but the kitchen was closed .

Went about 2 months ago and was OK. Food didn't stand out exactly and was quite pricy. Good service though.

Burger and chips was high end and very tasteful. I did find the chips greasy however the burger was delicious. It was followed by a plateful of ice cream (and I mean a plateful) Really nice atmosphere and would go again

Haven't been here for a while but the food was great, the waitresses were friendly and attentive and there was a good choice of wine which kept me happy. Great signature dessert dish - sticky toffee pudding with a twist! Try it!

Seemed like a nice pub initially and the barman was lovely, but it's the first time in my life I've been charged £14 for a double JD and coke. Considering they charge a more reasonable £9.50 for their cocktails we presumed it was an error, but the barman double checked and came back with the same figure. Genuinely astonished to have paid £20 for a pint and double spirit and mixer. Unfortunately a place to remember for the wrong reasons :/

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here! The staff are incredibly friendly, decor is stunning and the roast dinner did not disappoint! Kids pasta portion was huge too and so good! There is a garden area if you want outdoor dining. A two minute walk from the beachfront, definitely worth a visit if you are on holiday in Herne Bay x

We wanted to hold a small lunch party for my parents 50th wedding anniversary in the Herne Bay area. John (owner) was polite, courteous, attentive from the word go. The attention to detail was amazing and the work he put into the buffet was outstanding. The whole family had a great day and we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you again to everyone at the Four Fathoms we really appreciate you making it so special for my parents.

Very friendly bar staff who made us 4 London ladies feel very much at home. Didn't catch the blonde lady's name but she was fab and dealt with the "Guinness" situation without even been asked!! 😊

We went here for a wedding recently and all I can say is it was such a lovely place! Quirky yet wholesome and the staff were so friendly, nothing was too much for them! The food we were served at the sit down meal was exquisite and i was honestly blown away by the flavours! The evening buffet was not as good as the sit down meal simply because some of it was a little burnt but otherwise there was lots of variety and plenty to eat! Question time Would I return? 100% yes Would I recommend to a friend? Yes Customer service 1-10? 10 Food 1-10? 9

Popped in for a drink with friends. Sat outside as it was a hot day, was a bit scruffy but could be intentional design!

Popped in on the off chance and they managed to seat us straight away. I had the burger and my wife a salad and let’s just say the portions are huge. The food was pretty good and the service was excellent. They have a much nicer dining room I assume they use in the evenings which looked great.

Been there for lunch n drinks after long walk. Lovely welcoming staff, nice atmosphere. Don’t much like food. Doesn’t matter if it’s pricey but very small portion. Make u feel it’s starter n main is coming 😅. Even though feel hungry after that 😝. But still 4 stars for serving with smile 😊 a smile can change anything.

Great Sunday roast. Generous serving of corn fed chicken, roast potatoes, stuffing, parsnips, carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash, cabbage and bacon and lashings of gravy. Great waiter service from the newbie, it's clear the owner values her customers and her staff. Lovely little garden out the back. So dog friendly, they even provide free treats. First visit. We will be back. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Great friendly staff. Atmosphere very friendly. Food very expensive but tasty. They need to drop the prices by about 40% . Only that would stop me going again

£6.50 for a bottle of Whitstable Bay is taking the mick, £3 over the road at The Grapevine, has a nicer garden area too

The food was nice, although the portions were quite small and quite pricey. There was also only 1 option for pudding, which we all declined, so I left still feeling hungry (fortunately we had birthday cake waiting for us at home). There were 9 of us in total, out for a family meal. We had our children with us and the only option for children was burger and chips (I assume vegetarian children just had chips?!). When they arrived it was a slice of a burger (maybe a quarter of a burger?) put in a burger bun. I then had to order more chips for them as they were still hungry due to the tiny burger. So this place is nice if you are an adult but I wouldn't recommend bringing children here

What a little gem this pub is! Myself, my husband and some good friends decided to go somewhere completely different this year for New Years Eve and the Four Fathoms did not disappoint - Sara and John - the delightful couple that run this quirky sea side establishment were sublime hosts! From the pristine venue down to the fantastic Blues Brothers Live act and the cuisine lovingly prepared by John that wouldn’t be out of place in the likes of such top West end restaurants (John himself a chef for many years at both Rules and Christopher’s we found out later to our delight) the whole evening was a rollercoaster of fun that we didn’t want to end! West end cuisine for a fraction of the price and the ambience and great welcome from John, Sara and their well run pub by their superb team was a joy to experience. We will most certainly be back and look forward to many of their upcoming events in 2022 - Watch this space! This jewel in the crown is one to watch as I believe it will be very popular in the coming months! Sara, John and your exemplary team keep up the good work! If you don’t believe us then experience it for yourselves and take a look at the wonderful menu, drinks and cocktail lists! Competitively priced and real value for money. Best food in town. This pub has changed miraculously over the last few years. Sara and the team are always very welcoming...Best to book if you want to eat. Not typical pub grub and a little more expensive to reflect that...but great quality. Note only open Thursday to Sunday lunchtime (that might change of course)...Good location near to Herne Bay pier.

Shared a lovely meal (mains and desserts) with family and our dog. Genuinely friendly feel to the pub and made us and our dog very welcome. Would definitely recommend and hope to return next time we are in town.

This place is incredible! The Sunday roasts here are amazing and the service is second to none! Would go back in a heartbeat, the attention to detail for the sides is great. If you have a doggo the chef likes to feed them beef so everyone is a winner!

Overpriced drinks, food below average and over seasoned, management rude. I think I'll stick to the Ship on the seafront in future.

Delicious food - the roast lamb and chocolate nemesis dessert were spectacular; friendly service; dog-friendly staff; and nice decor.

Really lovely little place, Staff absolutely lovely and welcoming. Food tasted divine. Steak exactly 💯 how I asked . Sauce on starter was divine. Attention to detail .Mentioned a small detail to owner was taken straight on board n delt with immediately.. We would highly recommend 👌

Food Poisoning! This might have been Kent Pub of the Year under previous owners, but beware – it is rather different now. Visiting for dinner in August I got extreme food poisoning from the Chicken Satay starter that totally spoilt the next 2 days of my holiday. John initially offered to refund my food cost (but reasonably not the drink or my partner's meal) but a day later he changed his mind. Not really good customer service from a new owner trying to establish a reputation. To be fair, the food tasted fine and although expensive it seemed like a good experience – that is until 3am later that night! I really did not want to post a bad review here but was left with no alternative after my final correspondence from John bluntly stated: ‘Charlotte. Very simple. You did not get food poisoning from here. This is becoming very Tiresome(sic). I’m very surprised you called us several days later making allegations. This is now ended as far as I’m concerned.’ So, if you visit The Four Fathoms I suggest that you avoid the Chicken Satay and don’t bother complaining to the owners if you are not satisfied with anything.

We loved this place! Cycled from Ebbsfleet to Herne Bay and saw how highly rated this place was. Sat in the courtyard garden, the staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating towards us - they offered for us to wheel our bikes in without us having to ask. Food was delicious. Cannot speak more highly of the service.

Lovely staff, owner was so nice & cheerful, good atmosphere. Very tender steak both rib eye & fillet! Starters v nice. All well presented. Wine choices great & prices competitive. We'll be back!

£5.40 for a pint of Masterbrew. Your having a laugh!! Found a brilliant micropub opposite the Firkin Frog £3.50 a pint of great ale.

Fantastic fine dining cuisine in friendly relaxed pub environment. Vegetarian options were limited but might be due to Covid times.

Good food in decent portions, fair value, friendly service and well-kept beer. Good location near the pier. Shame they don't have high chairs as they're pretty standard in pubs these days (we were all babies once!). But otherwise good.

Can't recommend Four Fathoms enough complete turnaround from how the old pub here used to be. Food is amazing and service is always friendly warm and relaxed home vibe. Have celebrated both mine and my mum's birthday here will no doubt be back again in the future. Must experience if you are in Herne Bay.

On arrival to what appears to be just another pub on a corner you are met with a fresh and modern interior. It's no micropub but the bar area is a bit of a squeeze they serve local ales, larger and stouts as you would hope and a large selection of spirits, prices for a drink are as reasonable as any other good pub. I went as part of a party of 6. We were shown through to a restaurant area at the rear that was warm and as welcoming as the main bar area. My 1st and only grumble is that they have bench seats which are far too low for table. The menu & food. The menu is select it had a couple of options per dietary style (vegetarian, fish and meat) I sampled the delights of the confit of duck spring rolls which were packed full of meat and flavour and presented in an appealing way. For mains I had tried jack fruit, not because I was trying to be a trendy vegan but as it sounded amazing, (which it was)a large portion was presented that again was packed full of flavour and something of a rarity extremely filling. Desert selection is again refined to about 8 dishes catering for most tastes, I had some sorbets which were very nice and refreshing. We were lucky as there was entertainment provided by means of a band called 6 shades of grey, very good band which we could hear on the restaurant area without it being intrusive to the conversation. Overall amazing food, friendly staff and atmosphere, limited menu that's worth reading before you go to check you would eat some thing.

Genuinely the best place for a gorgeous meal for all tastes including Vegan. We loved it so much we came back for a second meal. Inspiring, quality ingredients and incredible flavours with super friendly staff. Divine food.
