Great pub just off the centre of York. A surprisingly calm oasis on a busy Sunday lunchtime during the Ice Trail. Had some tasty Slap and Pickles Big Mick sharing fries, a pint of Peroni and Drip Drip Drop (?) orange and cherry sherbet sour. Friendly and welcoming staff. Hope to visit again soon.

Brilliant little bar but unfortunately didn't try the hopefully will do the next time, the fossgate lager was great

Happy with the price and food beer good and a wide selection service prompt and polite will call again when in york.

Called in here in early December and it's a lovely pub with a great array of local and well known ales and lagers. Just dodged a busy period thankfully but the staff were lovely despite being run off their feet and taking a delivery and the chilled atmosphere and great tucked away tables make it feel cosy and friendly. Definitely recommended.

Drink selection was good and well priced, 5 stars, Food was unfortunately a let down. Planned to have a chicken burger but they were out of chicken. Opted instead for beef smash burger. Each burger has two patties but the patties were incredibly small, covering perhaps half of the bun. Not what I would expect from a smash burger.

Regular visitor when in York, great range of craft beers on tap. Haven't sampled the food as yet.

Very nice bar to sit and escape the tourist hordes in York. Quite expensive mind. Definitely worth a visit though.

Dog friendly, tasty sauce on tap. Fun little bar on Fossgate. Very busy, standing room only but great to people watch and see the local folk walk past. The staff are brilliant, very quick and friendly.

I'm writing this review because I feel that 4.4 stars for this pub is not quite correct. ... They have a great beer selection .... They have a great liquor selection .... They're "buffalo" wings aren't really buffalo (it's just tabasco and butter, people! ), but they're pretty tasty .... They have some of the best people watching opportunities available in York .... They're at the beginning of an EPIC PUB CRAWL (Fossgate tap, The Hop, Spark, The Red Lion, and ending at Brew York.... BOOM! Your welcome) So, yeah 4.4 stars isn't really appropriate. Let's get them over 4.7 please.

Great venue, cozy rooms on the second floor, great selection of drinks!

My husband and I used to love to drop in here every Wednesday night! I feel now that the place has lost it's appeal, to regulars and visitors alike! We now find, heavy metal music playing,more for the bar staff than clientèle, no longer have candles lit on tables to add to the ambience , no wonder the place was dead, no friendly "Hello" even though we are weekly regulars....we went over the road to "The Hop" much more welcoming! Sorry Fossgate Tap, you have lost our trade! You are missing the ambience we went in for@

Comfortable bar with a nice choice of cask and craft ales. Good music not too loud. To be honest I just popped in while waiting for the Blue Bell to open but I'm glad I did.

Thought the beer selection was great, they've got local beers from brew York, standard beers and more besides.

My favorite pub in York! The atmosphere is always on point, the drink choice is plenty and the service is next to none. Special mention for the young men who served me, Dan and Joe

Hidden gem of York. Good range of beers and would recommend duck fries. Best place for a margarita and the bar staff are lovely, got brilliant service from Dan and Joe!

My wife and I called in at lunchtime for a quick bit to eat. We were pleasantly surprised. Nice place, good food reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I was driving, so I didn't get to sample any of the large range of beers on offer. We will return.

Relaxed and chilled pub and cocktail bar. Enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere.

We visited here on a busy bank holiday in York, this place was a lovely welcoming rest stop for food and drinks away from the crowded streets! We ordered the Personal Cheesus, buffalo chick'n tenders and the chick'n , chips and gravy loaded fried from the new Slap&Pickle menu (all vegan options for us) and it was the dirty comfort food we both needed! Our server Ash was helpful, friendly and efficient; she had excellent knowledge of the menu and vast array of gins to choose from! I love the layout of the Fossgate Tap, with bigger areas for groups as well as cosy little nooks perfect for dates or girly catch ups 💗 ✨️ we will definitely be back to visit ☺️

Decent pub in the centre of york

Pleasant mid afternoon visit was very quiet as it was just open but beer and service was good. Would recommend a visit 😁

Most expensive bar in York. Called in on Saturday night ordered 1 pint of Guinness & single Vodka and Lemonade cost of £14 🤬 . Will never set foot in the place again. Even the barman apologised for the cost. Ripoff London prices.

We come here on all of our nights out. Good location and really close to taxi rank and bus stops. Excellent range of drinks and great atmosphere. Upstairs really comfortable with separate rooms with good sized tables and feels quite private even though we were a relatively big group (8). Prices are decent and bar staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful.

On our list for real ale pubs - a bit disappointed. The bar was very clean and the staff friendly enought but quite expensive compared to other bars in the area

Came on a Monday evening for a relaxed meal, food was amazing and a very fair price! There was a great range of beers available to enjoy with my meal, staff couldn’t have been more helpful, especially Ashleigh who went above and beyond for us, will be returning.

Had the katsu chicken loaded fries and some chilli cheese bites. Expected to come for some pub grub but really surprised how good the food was!

Lovely Pub and decor. Clean, warm and welcoming. Ashleigh is an absolute credit to the place couldn’t have bent over further to accommodate. Food was wonderful and tasty Would highly recommended a visit

The 4 of us enjoyed this place. The service, drinks are good but there was a noisy group who spoilt the atmosphere. The pizza's looked good but we went onto another place.

Situated at the top end of Fossgate near the Blue Bell pub. When I visited it was a very busy place but that's a good thing. There was a very good range of beers available all of which were very well kept. I decided to order a pizza and a side order of chips and when they arrived they looked and indeed tasted lovely. I'd highly recommend paying this a visit.

Awesome boozer in York, great selection of beers and a lovely pub with lots of rooms, if you're lucky you get your own cosy room. Great place for dates, cosy rainy afternoons or if you just like a good drink. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The food was amazing. Sweet and Spicy Peperoni Pizza was just right, the Dirty Fries were exceptional. Had these 2 dishes with a pint of Peroni and a pint of Pepsi and it was only £31.10. Great value and great food.

Nice atmosphere, and staff. Lovely cup of tea and service, It seems like a popular venue, plenty of people attending. Its now my daughters favourite bar as lovely staff and characterful atmosphere. Nice gins, cocktails and a lovely touch free water to have at the end of the bar.

Been here before for drinks and also breakfast..but sadly only Sat and Sun 10 - 12 noon. Do pizzas and such. Jorvic likes the selection of six real ales on handpump. ( Paulicarus says gravity dispense of real ale is now rare outside of beer festivals. Vacuum dispense even rarer.) Went for Brew York 3.9% bitter.. very good. Bar playing great 70's hits. Small upstairs space that can be hired. One of the many bars that opened as long standing pubs shut.

Recent visit, left with mixed feelings, I had a pint of peroni, and the wife had a whitney Neil rubbarb and ginger gin and slim line tonic !! The gin was fine but the tonic or was it lemonade or soda was poured from a label less bottle taken from the beer chiller what ever it was tasted strange certainly wasn't tonic and then a slice of orange chucked in? Completely ruined the drink. My advice stick to serving ales and tell the customer if u don't have something rather than trying to substitute it with strange liquids.

It's one of my new favourite pubs in York! Staff ars very friendly they have Aspall cider on tap ALWAYS a bonus! I have not had any food, but from what I saw other people having it looked delicious. For a more comfortable and private setting, head upstairs. The rooms are very cosy with very comfy seating and candles on the tables. Prices for drinks are York average. It's clean and nicely kept well done to all the staff! I will be back when back in York!

Good to have this place nearby. Lots of space and options to people watch with a well made cocktail and a good range of beer and wine. Staff are excellent, my husband accidentally spilt a pint of Guinness and when he went to buy another they gave it to him. That's just brilliant hospitality and means we recommend this place to everyone.

I’ve had the best burger in York and this is it! If you’re a burger fan or a burger snob you’ll be in rapture after this place! I live in York and nowhere else compares for burgers. The pizza and gyros are also amazing! 10/10 if I could rate it more I would!

Great place for food and drinks. Lots of vegan options and very well done, especially considering it's not a vegan pub. Draught selection is excellent with a good variety of beer and cider, definitely recommended. Edit 13/09/2023 Fossgate tap has turned into our whole reason for going to York at this point. York is great, but having a great place to get away from the massive crowds, have a drink, and eat some amazing vegan food makes it significantly better. Plus the newer additions like the vegan zeafood tacos are some of the best in the UK.

Great drink selection. Trendy setting, only downside was service. Staff seemed to not take an interest at times. As someone who works in hospitality I understand how shifts can be but this did damper our experience here.

Nice pub near Betty's and other big shops in York centre, clear views of river and bridges

2nd time here (once for breakfast and once for lunch). Both times have been great. Lovely atmosphere with good decor and music throughout. Food has been spectacular everytime. Good selection of both local and international beers too. Reasonable prices for the centre of the city 👍
