Fortune House in North Norfolk

Traditional style Chinese at Wells-next-the-Sea, good value and great service, we were looked after well as a walk in for take away. Good selection and reasonable prices. We had Singapore noodles, egg fried rice and chilli shredded beef, with mixed starter and free prawn crackers, for £30.

Very Average, after reading the reviews decided to try as we hadn’t had a Chinese back home for a long time. Service was good friendly but the food very average and lacked spices was expecting more, wouldn’t go again.

Probably the best Chinese takeaway we have ever had., we ordered the set meal for two and every dish was delicious . We ordered again for another night. Wish this was near our home.

A warm welcome from the lady behind the counter, followed by a few tweaks for us on the menu. All fabulous and tasty and reasonably priced. Excellent!

First class chinese meal. Not greasy, reasonably priced, decent sized portions. I definitely recommend this take away. Rather "out of the way" worth looking for. Plenty of parking places Closed Mondays. At time of review accept cash only.

After a busy day on the beach, we were unsure what to have to eat. My husband remembered a chinese takeaway we had used before. The lady at front of house was so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was outstanding, hot and everyone was happy with their meals (6 adults and 2 children).

Visited this wonderful Chinese takeaway on numerous occasions and delighted every time. The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. Long standing takeaway, a hidden gem in wells-next-the-sea. Wide range of food. Personal favorites include the Chinese noodles and chicken in oyster sauce. Good size portions, well cooked and always well received by the family.

I found the food very ordinary. The KP Chop suey comprised prawns in a spicy watery yellow sauce with little evidence of water chestnuts or bamboo shoots. Ordered some Chinese greens as well which seemed to be just some stir fried white cabbage (for £5!) instead of Asian greebs such as pak choi etc. Can of pop £1.30 Nice staff but disappointing

After reading other reviews decided to try as staying in Wells……Very ordinary food,could hardly taste which meal was which as the sauce poured over the meals tasted the same and to cap it all a meal was missed off the order which was paid for.

Used this takeaway for the first time whilst having a short break in Wells a couple of weeks ago. Not normally a huge lover of Chinese food but this was excellent. Good value and really lovely staff. Many thanks. Will be visiting again.

Tasty Chinese takeaway, with courteous service. We chose from the chef specials and weren't disappointed. We loved the Mongolian lamb and the crispy duck was also great.

The staff are incredibly friendly. All the food I've had in 5 years has been fantastic. The sweet and sour chicken balls and chicken curry are a particular favorite of mine

I’ve used this takeaway a few times now and its been consistently average, verging on poor. Thin bland sauces that all seem to taste the same no matter what the dish. I completely agree with other reviews of the Chinese curry sauce. Odd is the only way to describe it. It’s like a cross between curry sauce and custard. Normally I wouldn’t visit again, but as there isn’t another one for miles around I’m afraid I might end up repeating my mistake when next visiting.

Had a takeaway from here on the last night of our stay in wells. Went to collect it after about 25 minutes from ordering, food was piping hot and excellent. One of the best Chinese meals I've had in ages. Highly recommended.

My family and I always have at least two meals from Fortune House when we visit Wells for a holiday. Such nice food, my favourite is chicken fried rice with a pot of sweet and sour sauce. I wish the Chinese takeaways where I live were a nice as this!

I have lived in wells for 9/10 years now and whenever we fancy a treat we will get the food from here. The food is perfectly cooked and always piping how its also very well priced and doesn't take long to prepare (10/15) mins love this place and i can't wait to return soon the staff are lovely aswell i really do recommend buying from here

Decide to try them, a local told us it was good and can get busy. Which it did. The food was good and hot, we had several dishes which were all eaten up. The only down side is that they ONLY TAKE CASH. Next time we are back, Fortune house will be used again.

Have to say I'm surprised by the good reviews on here. The food was bland and vegetables were very overcooked to the point they had lost most of their colour. Would not go back.

We enjoyed our take-away dinner from here. Friendly and prompt service. Some dishes were better than others as is often the way-we enjoyed the crispy chilli beef, sweet and sour chicken and chicken in black bean sauce.

This really was the worst Chinese we’ve all ever had! Everything was so bland and tasteless, and I’ve never tasted should bad curry sauce, everything tasted like it was watered down. We ended up throwing half of it away. Prawn crackers were nice though!

Had a takeaway and really enjoyed it. Service was helpful and friendly and enjoyed the food. Had crispy duck which had plenty of meat and was tasty as was the chicken sweet and sour balls and chow mien. Was return again if we are ever in the area as we were there for a holiday.

Tucked away on a housing estate, Fortune House is worth tracking down. Excellent service when telephoning our order, the food was hot, tasty and delicious. I love Chinese food, and always try to find a takeaway when I'm away from home. A really good choice. Recommended.

After hours of looking for a fish and chip shop and finding out all were shut at 20:00. Me and my friends stumbled accross this restaurant. Love the food, amazing hospitality and service, would eat here every day if it wasn’t for me living in Cambridge, 100% recommended.

It’s always nice to see slightly unusual dishes on a menu, and Fortune House certainly has some.I went for the lamb dish which was off the scale!A lovely Chinese lady is at the helm, and I imagine it’s her husband who’s the chef....a true family affair!

Fabulous food...we had Chinese from here two nights in a row!! Very busy on new year's eve however we only waited for about 15 minutes. Would advise ordering in advance on busy nights such as NYE as lots of phone orders were on a one hour wait time and they had lots of pre booked orders too.Cannot fault it...was lovely!!

Had read some unfavourable reviews but decided to try their take-away and glad we did. We were with another couple and we all agreed the food was tasty and delicious.

Crispy yummy chips ...tasty chicken dishes in a sauce that hadn’t been coloured with bright artificial colouring...really enjoyed it.

Googled the closest Chinese and this was the one. Very friendly polite staff who take the order. Waiting time was approximately 15 minutes. Food was hot and very tasty. Mongolian Lamb was lovely and not greasy along with a chicken curry which was also tasty.Would definitely recommend and would go back again.

I was trying to find something good to say about this place, but in regard to the food there is no redeeming features. The sauces were thin, tasteless and the Chinese curry was intensely vinegary. The pancake roll was utterly disgusting to look at. I've never experienced such awful Chinese food. I cannot understand any of the positive reviews of this place. £36 wasted and, in all honesty, it ruined the last night of our holiday. Most of the food was thrown away.

I had a take away from this Chinese with my family and we all said that it was completely tasteless as though it had been cooked in a microwave not in a wok, so all in all I would say a rubbish Chinese and to bypass this one for good

Fortune House seems to be the only Chinese Takeaway in Wells, so we cycled from our campsite at the end of Beach Road to order a meal and cycled back to the site with it in an insulated rucksack. It was well worth the effort. Our order was taken by a friendly lady and was ready in about 10 minutes. The food was very hot, even though we had cycled for about 10 minutes with it in the backpack. The meal was very good and an excellent treat during our camper van trip. I recommend it.

Very disappointed with the food from here, salt and pepper chicken was presented more like crispy shredded beef, thin batter with no real trace of chicken, the egg fried rice was brown and hardly any egg. King prawn curry was tasteless

Not many places in Wells to eat at a reasonable price. Tried this takeaway again, on a housing estate just out of town centre, don't be put off by the shop front! Very tasty and good value takeaway, nicely cooked, also didn't make us thirsty all night like many Chinese!

Lots of choice, well cooked, plenty of meat in the chicken and beef dishes. Not over priced, easy to park outside and friendly service.

We visit Wells every year at New Year and a New Years Eve visit to this takeaway is part of our routine. The quality of the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Service is speedy and cheerful.

Hot fresh and reasonably priced. No more than we would pay back home in Brighton and the food was 10 times better. Very upset we don't live close enough for this to be our regular. Portions plenty generous enough for seconds. Particular highlights being the salt and chili chicken and the Hong Kong style sweet and sour king prawns. Highly recommend.

Been coming to wells for years but never opted for a take out here. First experience tonight and it was lovely. Generous portions and all as expected.would visit again

Reasonable takeaway food, good choice just seems expensive compared to other similar takeaways. Shop itself needs updating, bare, cold and not particularly nice to wait in. Friendly staff

Estar literalmente en la calle de esta China, que muy a menudo conseguir comida desde aquí. Yo diría que la comida es mucho mejor que muchos otros para llevar chino. Had a night in with the kids while in our holiday cottage and the Fortune was just the job with a good standard Chinese takeaway and the lady in the takeaway was very polite and friendly.

Very good food and very obliging ...we were on our boat in the harbour and they brought our take away to us ..what more can you wish for

Whenever we arrive in Wells we always have a Chinese takeaway and the Fortune House did not disappoint. Great advice in what to order for a large group very pleasant staff. The duck was gorgeous!

Googled for a Chinese takeaway in wells next the sea, and found this one. It had a huge menu, and the food was very tasty. The chips were the only thing that wasn't nice, and we should have told the owner who was very nice and friendly. Would definately use this again.

This was an excellent Chinese Takeaway. We rang through from holiday cottage and went to collect it was ready piping hot and we all (4) had a different dish and everyone enjoyed

Only 5 minutes from town, we had a lovely meal from Fortune. Food was lovely and not greasy like some takeaways. Great welcome and only 10 minutes from order to food being ready. Highly recommended!

Located about 5 mins walk from the quay, this Chinese take away provides a good selection of dishes that were prepared quickly by the friendly staff. Prices were very reasonable and the food was tasty. It's a shame there is not an eat-in area. Perhaps the menu could have provided a few imaginative options, but maybe there is no demand for authentic Chinese food here?
