Sad really as I was so looking forward to eating here. Décor great, staff very helpful. But the food, oh dear was not great. I quite like my hot food actually above room temperature and not tepid. The ribs, cold, the duck cold, and the sizzling beef was still weeping blood when it was served. Not the best food and given the high prices it should be fantastic. Missed a trick here guys.

Shocking food, been going there for over 20 years, it is a completely new team managing the place now, there is no sign of old manager even though they show many images of him on the website. Trust me do not be impressed by this celebrity stuff on the website, that was the old Fortune City. existing management think they can serv All dishes have absolutely no vegetables, feels like they are definitely cutting corners to maximise profits, so chicken and cashew nuts had only chicken, and cashew nuts, nothing else, not even an onion in sight. The hot and sour soup had only mushrooms and beansprouts, totally tasteless and most definitely the worst soup I have ever experienced, we left the soup and the young lady said she would inform the kitchen, NOTHING AS EXPECTED. Anyway soup ribs and 2 dishes for 2 people and one glass of wine £82.00, definitely no set meals and trust me do, the existing management think they can serve shocking basic food and I mean shocking and charge totally unreasonable prices £20.00 a dish, and get away with it, please do not waste your time and money.

First time visit, won't be the last. Lovely, friendly staff welcomed us for early Saturday dinner to celebrate mum's 87th birthday. Dishes arrived from the kitchen promptly, all steaming hot and delicious. Lovely, light spring rolls and tasty crispy greens. Then on to crispy duck with generous amount of pancakes. The fish of the day was beautifully cooked with ginger and spring onions. A set menu would have been a positive addition to our dining experience.

Warm welcome, easy parking, attentive service, flexible menu and caters for vegetarian etc. no problem with small changes to dishes. Can't fault, delicious food.

Amazing food with a brilliant menu. The staff were attentive and friendly. There was a great atmosphere and we felt very good value for money. We shall definitely be returning and telling our friends.

Easy telephone booking .. clear at straightforward Welcomed upon arrival, at booked time, and immediately and courteously directed to table and provided with menus Drinks order taken and speedily served Sufficient time allowed for meal choices to be made. Orders taken by pleasant and efficient waitress Table service was timely and efficient Food quality was excellent. Restaurant was reasonably busy however the ‘waiting’ team of two managed to provide an efficient, courteous and friendly service to all diners! Overall an excellent dining experience

Visited 3rd Feb nephews Birthday. Nice restaurant 1st time visit. There were 7 of us but we ordered 6 Emperors Banquets as you usually get plenty of food at other places. The soup was nice and they gave us an extra bowl for soup but didnt fill it we had to share from other peoples portions!! The mixed starters were good, ribs divine. The crisy duck was for 6 people and good but they could have supplied 2 extra pancakes which I thought was a bit mean too! The mains were very nice but we needed to change 1 dish from Chicken with Yellow bean sauce to sweet n sour and they charged a £1 for the change...again a bit mean in my opinion it was only a different sauce. Overall lovely food very clean and quality of beef & Prawns were very good. The staff were not very friendly or attentive throughout the meal regarding drinks etc. They don't supply anything for free like fortune cookies, they didn't ask if we wanted coffee or tea at the end of the meal either. That said i think we may go back.

We had The Emperor’s Banquet - the very best main course we’ve ever had ever in any Chinese restaurant. The starter of ribs, which were tender and succulent, and chicken wings (slightly salty) was overly heavy on the 5spice. The aromatic crispy duck was spoiled by under done and fairly thick pancakes resulting in a floury taste. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal.

So we booked a late dinner in here. 9:45 as we were watching the match beforehand and arrived slightly early. But that was simply not good enough! Upon arrival the manager (we think) came straight over. I hadn’t even taken my coat off. He informed us we had to order our food immediately. Before any drinks! So we did and a bottle of wine also. The food was ok. Pretty decent, but to be honest I don’t remember much about it as we felt rushed into eating the food as soon as we could as he came over shortly after and said that the restaurant was closing soon. It was ridiculous. We ended up eating and basically getting pushed straight out of there. I had to bring the bottle of wine home! Never again. Why did they even take the booking?? Money making clearly more important that any dining experience. Utterly ridiculous experience and we will not be returning.

This is a great looking restaurant but we were disappointed. The food was ok. Duck and pancakes nice but mains were bland. Service wasn’t great. We had to flag down servers a lot and the waitress pretty much threw the food at the table.

Was part of a party of 11 who ate here on 21st May. I have to confess we only ate here after we were badly let down by the Fox and Hounds pub nearby who failed to deliver our meals after a 3 and a half hour wait! We arrived at the fortune city just 40 minutes before they were due to close and explained our situation. The manager asked if we would be happy if they just brought us out a mixture meals to save time, as obviously his kitchen staff were due to finish for the night. We said that was fine, and the food started coming out just 10 minutes later. And boy it it come. We had everything. Chicken, beef, prawn and veggie dishes, rice and noodles, and it was all fantastic. 11 very hungry diners ate like kings and with full stomachs there was still food left on the table. Food was so good, that we will definitely be back even though it’s a 30 minute drive from where we live.

You can't eat good parking, service or decor, but Fortune City has all of that in abundance. In advance we were looking forward to being there and arrived in plenty of time. However. Food? Not impressed. Gluten Free is mentioned on the bottom of each page, but examine the menu, fish and a Sweet & Sour pork dish, heavily battered (hopefully in Cornflour) is all you can have if you are searching for that GF option, there is no possibility of having any changes, we asked. There are a couple more options on the starter side, but if you need GF, give this place a wide berth. Cooking? Everything seems to be cooked in batter and loaded with onions, the ginger and spring onion dish had ginger so large it appeared to be bamboo shoots. The sweet and sour pork dish was so tough it was difficult to cut and when you did it was a tough chew, we left a lot of it. The sauce was clear sticky and whilst it may be authentic, it lacked any colour to make it look even remotely appetising. We paid our bill and scored this up to experience, which I am afraid to say will be a one off for the Fortune City. I wish them luck in raising the Scores on Doors level from it's current level 3 as well. I don't think this terminally poor, it needs more attention to menu and to the standard of cooking. Going to a Chinese restaurant in todays age you expect something special, other than service and decor, this was not that special.

We visited on Sunday evening with another couple. This was the first time we had been since the lockdown started last year. We were warmly welcomed by Mr Ho, and the service and food thereafter was as good as we have always known it. We all had the Emperor's Banquet, and every dish was hot, tasty, fresh and beautifully seasoned. The service was typically attentive without being in any way hurried. It is so good to be able to go to a restaurant and just know that you can relax, and that there will be no problems with either food or service. We'll be returning soon!

Visited Fortune City last night having not been there for about 25 years ! Wow what can I say! The decor is beautiful - subtle lighting but spotlights above each table so you can actually see the menu. The food was exquisite- we had the spring rolls to start which were crispy and fresh and then for mains we had duck with mango, duck with plum sauce , prawns with chilli and garlic , satay beef and all were delicious. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Just great to have a quality Chinese restaurant nearby and we all agreed this was the best meal out we have had in ages. We will be back

We have dined in the restaurant and had takeaway food but this last takeaway will be the last. I would prefer to have my order declined than they serve sub standard food on a very busy Saturday night. The hot and sour soup is £4.50 takeaway price the same as the eat in price !?! To then find that there is hardly anything in the soup is both shocking and irritating...what can you do ? Would they serve this in the restaurant when you can reject it ? The char sui chow mein was not too bad but again had all the signs of being rushed. This is unacceptable...I know covid has impacted on restaurants but this experience just means we will not return to this place.

What a Chinese!! This really is one of the best Chinese restaurants we have ever eaten in. We nipped off the motorway on a long drive back to Lancashire and what a lucky find. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our meals. Everything was so tasty and at the same time so fresh. We will absolutely be back again. Thank you!

Always excellent service and great food! We’ve eaten here on and off for 25 years. It’s changed hands, became a steakhouse briefly, now back to a lovely Chinese restaurant (that offers take away service). Give it a try, you’ll keep going back.

Saying this is the best Chinese take away in Holmes Chapel is probably not great praise - but it is a very good Chinese restaurant and the take away is excellent. The portions are a good size and the food tase. Is slightly more expensive than others around, possibly but to be honest I'd rather eat from here rather than save a few £s on a takeaway which is half the quality.

Have just left and what a great place! Just googled somewhere whilst in the M6 on way home to Lakes and what a gem! Food was lovely, place was lovely and all of the staff were really friendly and welcoming, so much so we will now start making this a regular pit stop! Can’t recommend enough!

Had a takeaway last weekend. The food is definitely better than the local competition, it just tastes like less msg and flavours are more subtle. However it is far more expensive, easily 30% more than we usually pay elsewhere. A nice treat now and again but not sure £45 for a modest takeaway for 3 is good value. Salt and spice dishes are very poor and need some serious re-thinking.

I have eaten here for many - 20 years plus - Sinai booked wondering how it would be. It’s been refurbed and mid week it’s was busy. Staff were great - food exceptionally good. We had a great evening -+ looking forward to return visit. You won’t go wrong eating here.

We were well looked after here. Very attentive service. Superb food and drink. The steamed dim sum is excellent and the sea bass is particularly good. Try the Sun Lik beer too.

Living locally, we have been regular diners at Fortune City and have usually been pleased with the food and service.

We went to Fortune City this evening and as always the food and service were excellent. We have had takeaways and been to the restaurant a number of times over the years and we have never been disappointed. We highly recommend a visit and will be returning soon.

Just finished a very nice takeaway- all very fresh and tasty. Portion sizes are good with 3 adults sharing char sou pork and duck , sweet and sour mix, crispy chili beef mains. My daughter always enjoys the steamed bbq pork buns. Ready to collect in 20 minutes hot and fresh.

A wonderful evening celebrating my parents 40th wedding anniversary; staff were attentive without being overbearing, food was brought out daily quicky and was delicious. My son was taken poorly whilst there (where he fainted and had a seizure) they helped us move him and were just lovely. Food was delightful.

To start, I rang the restaurant to place a takeaway order. Me and my partner only wanted a mixed starter to share, as we weren’t very hungry. On fortune city’s Facebook page they have a takeaway menu, informing customers the price of each dish. Stating the mixed starter was £8.90. Unbeknown to myself when I picked the takeaway up, i was being charge £17.80! I was disgusted to be told that it’s £8.90 per person. This is not started on the menu anywhere. I paid the bill, as I didn’t think it was fair to walk away when the food had already been made. When I got home and opened up the cartons, I noticed there was hardly any seaweed as stated on the menu. The dumplings were too over cooked, as so were the ribs (dry and extremely chewy). Please see pictures attached. The one one part of the dish I can recommend was the salt and pepper chicken wings. Apart from that, the whole meal was a rip off and a massive disappointment. Will not be ordering from here again.

Came for dinner one Friday evening. We thought the decor and the look of the place was excellent, very smart and modern. Service and food was good. No free prawn crackers which is often a normal free starter at Chinese restaurants but rest of experience was very good. Well worth a visit and is the only Chinese restaurant in village and for some miles around.

This is my favourite restaurant in Holmes Chapel. Every time we go, we have a great meal. The food is always fresh with good size portions. The mixed starter is absolutely delicious. If there’s something we want that’s not on the menu it’s never a problem for them. The wine list is pretty good and reasonably priced and the staff are great.

The food from here is extremely delicious, there wasn’t one grumble among the group over food.

Think again before eating here. We should have learned from the first “money back” failed dinning experience we had the unfortunate displeasure over a year ago but thought we would give it another chance with a takeaway. We should have stuck to our first decision to never eat here again.

Having walked Alderley Edge we headed to Fortune City before 6pm so the restaurant was quiet , and staff attentive and really helpful. Having had the chicken and mushroom soup, the chicken mince in leaves, the special chow mein and the Kim Po Duck, we were more than happy. All were delicious, beautifully presented and more than sufficient. Not outrageously expensive but a lovely treat. Thank you.

We had not been since previous management but chose the restaurant as hoping it would be a bit special. It has the look but doesn't live up to it.

The area has been short of a Chinese Restaurant, so it was good to find this one busy early on a Friday evening. The surroundings are elegant, with slate walls and round tables a feature. We had preordered a meal which was very good. My surprises were that the excellent spare ribs were served in batter, and we were given plates rather than bowls with chopsticks. Service was smiley and we were a happy group. Can’t wait to revisit. Just wish they were open for lunches.

Booked for New Year’s Eve with friends. We all had the special banquet, fabulous! Also very reasonably priced, there was just so much food I asked for a doggy bag. Good atmosphere without being over the top.

My wife and I have eaten in the restaurant several times since the Fortune City reopened and always had a fabulous meal. However, we'd read several negative comments about the takeaway meals, so were a bit concerned when we ordered one last night for a family group. We chose the Fortune Four plus a number of extra dishes including some vegetarian ones. All I can say is that every dish was delicious - hot, tasty and full of high quality ingredients. We all had our favourites, but my grandson declared the ribs and prawn toasts the best he had ever eaten, and he pretty much devoured the beef curry on his own!

This is a great restaurant to eat in. We have been a couple of times and had great food. This weekend however, we ordered a takeaway. I had previosly been warned that the takeaway meals were not created with the same care as te restaurant meals - but I didn't see how this would be true. ... I believe it now.

Having lived in the area for over 40 years, resturants come and go. The Fortune City closed down and opened as a Steak Resturant and then re-opended as the fortune city again months later.

I went with friends for dinner. The restaurant is very tastefully furnished and a very pleasant atmosphere. Service was excellent and my meal one of the best I have eaten in a Chines Restaurant. Thank you very much chef and staff.

We took another couple with us last night (Saturday) for their first visit to Fortune City, and obviously hoped that the high standards we had experienced on our previous visits had been maintained. We needn't have worried - we had a really enjoyable evening.

Absolutely fantastic great atmosphere, food is excellent quality and always tastes fresh friendly staff definitely one to go to if your looking for a good Chinese restaurant

Very disappointed, we went from Knutsford to collect the chinese from them in Holmes Chapel at 5:30, we were told everything would be freshly prepared, but they gave us last night’s egg fried rice, which was stale, overly chewy, jumbled up into big balls of rice. The Kung Pu Prawns we ordered had cashews in it, although their menu doesn’t say that on it, their menu clearly says cashews present in the Emperor Prawns, so we obviously assumed Kung Pu would not have prawns in it. When we called them after coming home and seeing the stale old rice and cashews, the guy on the phone was so rude, he said “you are too irresponsible yourself not to mention your allergies”.... I was shocked, rather than apologizing, he was turning it back to us. He also admitted the rice and kung pu both were old and last nights reheated on our asking and telling that we would report to health regulatory bodies.

Food: still trying to find out what was Chinese in this deep fried, badly presented mush. Duck far too dry, chilli beef- still looking for the beef, lemon chicken- from a jar? We were all disappointed.

Had the best Chinese meal I’ve ever had with the family. Effective and efficient service, accepting of the whims of a 7 and 3 year old! Decent prices but most important! Really really tasty! I’ll be back!

Once I found out that Fortune City had reopened I had to go. I was so delighted to find that it was just as good as before.

There are not many chinese restaurants around now, we did not want a take-away so we decided to try Fortune City. It was fairly early on Sunday evening , we were the second table in. We liked the decor and service was good throughout. We ordered the basic meal for 2 and a bottle of house red wine. The chicken and mushroom soup was very ordinary, the small plate of starters disappointing. We hoped that the 2 main meals would be better. The sweet and sour was fine but the szechuan beef was all wrong. It looked like slices of beef in a pale gravy, it tasted ok but it was not szechuan beef. We should have mentioned it at the time but didn't.

Got a takeaway and was really disappointed...food was not cheap and it was bland. Did not finish it.

We have been visiting from time to time since the Fortune City reopened, and have noticed one or two recent negative comments. However, we went again last night (a fairly quiet Wednesday) with another couple and once again enjoyed quite excellent food and service.

We have dined in here before but decided on a takeaway. It was terrible. The portions were small and the quality of the food poor. The dim sum mixed starter was unrecognisable from what they serve in the restaurant and the mains were just slop. Maybe their theory is if you're not dining in you won't complain. It was also ridiculously expensive.

When they first reopened, the food was excellent. Now becoming just average. Ordered the Emperor prawns and was served ordinary King Prawns. Talked to the staff about it and they accepted that they were misleading the customers but were not that interested. Disappointing

We came on Good Friday with our son who is now an adult and he also loves the food.We have been never let down by the quality of food or the staff who wait on. It is always a plesant evening out. Have tried others nearby but think this is our favourite, we went for sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice and crispy seaweed. All were freshly prepared and delicious. Portion sizes were good and the appearance was appetising. I would recommend.

Stopped on the way home for a takeaway, had a selection of ribs and a curry dish, all were excellent. Service was great, was even able to have a beer while i waited. Will definitely be visiting again.

Nice interior - I ordered the crispy chilli squid, special fried rice, Har Gau dim sum and birds nest. Tasty but the birds next should be noodles...not a potato basket...looked good though!

My family and I have been coming here since I can remember! We were so happy when it reopened after shutting down for a period of time. We have previously always had lovely meals at this restaurant, although the last meal we had, I cannot avoid mentioning. It feels like they are cutting costs, as every meal was very small. We ordered 3 portions of rice and 1 portion of noodles for 6 people (along side 6 main meals). Two of which were children (one a three year old) and do not eat a lot. The portion of rice was for less than two people (you would have received a lot more if you had ordered a take away). I asked for more rice but I was informed it would be charged as extra!! Everyone had less than two spoonfuls of rice and out of principle I refused to pay for more! It is unlikely myself or any of my family will return now, so well done for penny pinching, even though, your prices are well above the norm!!

We went here new years eve. Previous experience have been very good and wasn't disappointed for new year. Had the banquet which at 29.99 per head was very reasonable. As ever the food and service was top quality. I highly recommend this restaurant

I am biased as this was the restaurant I took my future wife to 25 odd years ago for our first meal. It a place that I had been going to for years before this, for works dos. Now I moved jobs and did not go for years. It had been shut for a while. Now working/living locally and reopened as a Chinese, so we gave it a whirl. Been back about 10 times. and is now my favourite restaurant. Its well laid out (Nice slate effect), and whilst not cheap does have a good range, especially seafood. Excellent chicken Yuk Sung (Diced chicken, veggie and lettuce raps) and good on veggie stuff, for my eldest. Quick service. I do tend to over order here, every time.

Eight of us visited Fortune City on New Year's Eve, and we all chose the interesting-looking New Year's Banquet. So often, a set Chinese meal includes a fairly predictable set of dishes, but the Fortune City had made a point of ensuring that there were some different and unexpected inclusions. Of course the obligatory aromatic crispy duck was there as one of the courses (no complaints at all - it's one of our favourites) but the starter mix was quite different than usual and the main courses included a special curry, an unusual seafood dish and a spicy tofu dish. Without exception everything was delicious and the ingredients of the highest quality.

Great food and excellent service. The menu provides so much choice and definitely delivers on quality. The service can't be faulted, so helpful and friendly. I recommend the restaurant experience, with a lovely atmosphere but there is also a takeaway option. So lucky to be able to get food of this quality to take home and eat. Great value for money and without doubt the best restaurant within the area.

When the original Fortune City closed we were really disappointed. It offered high quality Chinese restaurant and take away service at slightly higher then local prices but worth it for the freshness of the ingredients. This visit was the third since it reopened following the disastrous previous venture occupying their old premises.

Excellent food, we had the hot plate which was so tasty. The interior is decorated beautifully and creates a lovely environment! We will definitely be making a return and having a takeaway as well!

I will definitely be returning to Fortune City as last night the food and service was above and beyond what we expected! We had a party of 7 and there was something for everyone! We had a sharing platter to start which I was unsure on getting but glad we did as everything on the plate was lovely and meant we got to try a bit of everything also! I loved the fact that the staff bring hot plates to the table to keep your food warm and then they also offer to serve up if you want. The portions are just the right size if not just a bit too much as we did struggle to finish everything, but we got a doggy bag to take everything we didn’t finish! The staff even asked who’s birthday it was and then unexpectedly brought out some ice cream with a candle in which was such a lovely thought!

I was looking forward to the Fortune City opening again. Got a sweet and sour chicken but it was lacking the vegetables that used to be in the old recipe. Put it down to one off error and called again for another course and turned to not to the standard it always was. I notice the other comments are very favourable, but it has put me off going again.

We go here quite often and get take always regularly.

Had friends around and thought we would have a take away and having already been to restaurant we decided to get a take away.Cant fault it,it's by far the best restaurant around and would thoroughly recommend it!

We missed the Fortune City when it was replaced for some time and it is good to have it back in the village. It is a typical Chinese, offering a warm welcome, fine service and an extensive menu. The four of us really enjoyed our meal and left very well fed. It is not cheap, but then that probably applies to many Chinese restaurants these days, and one of our selections was below par - but the other seven were not.

So so pleased that The Fortune City is open again and the food is even better than before.Having had a few exquisite takeaways we decide to go for a sit in meal. Faultless food and service from Lawrence and all the smiling staff.The Duck in Kimdo sauce is a must.

Eight of us visited this restaurant three weeks ago and enjoyed the food and surroundings so much we booked again for a birthday celebration for twelve people. Our requested table was waiting for us on Sunday evening. The restaurant was busy with almost every table occupied. We ordered nine £23 banquets and three set meals. This is possibly the best Chinese restaurant I have ever visited. The food and service was excellent with a large selection of dishes. Friendly staff and pleasant decor add to a wonderful dining experience. Thank you for a superb birthday celebration. We will definatly return.

Called in when passing on our way back from a day out. It was a Saturday evening and we were surprised that it wasn't busy and we were seated immediately. We both had chicken and sweetcorn soup for starters which was lovely. My chicken and mushroom main course was good but my husband's sweet and sour chicken did not have the usual peppers, carrots and onions that you usually get with this dish. Just the chicken in a sauce! My husband asked the waiter for another beer which never came and he had to ask again. Same with the bill, we had to request it twice and then nobody seemed interested in taking the money. Very poor service! We will not be returning.

First time visiting and can't fault it.The food is so tasty,my hubbie always has crispy chilli beef whenever we have Chinese and this was by far the best.It was so light and the sauce wasn't overpowering.I had the prawns in green pepper and black bean sauce and it was delicious.Will definitely be back and as it's around the corner from where we live it's a bonus!!

Had a really lovely meal here. It's an impressive space and although not cheap, it is value for money as the food is really good. Staff were great and the fish carrot a quirky, fun touch. We will visit again soon.
