We took our hound family for dinner and received a warm welcome. It was a semi-formal environment and delicious food. They also had a kids menu (~£7.50 for kids mains). Booking is essential and they're not open every evening. Would definitely visit again. Menu photos attached, although I believe that the menu does change quite regularly.

Booked this for our last meal in Scotland on the promise of live music, due to start at 8.pm but when we left past that time, we were still waiting for it to begin! We were brusquely greeted at the front door and asked to go round to the side door which would be unlocked for us as we had a dog - claims it is dog friendly, but felt we were only 'put up with' in the bar! This was despite ringing and talking it all through several weeks before we visited. Very small menu choice - had to ask if there was a vegetarian option and was then told what it was. When asked why it wasn't on the menu, we were told she hadn't had time to type up a new menu. Fish very mediocre, 2 pieces in breadcrumbs that looked more like they had come from Sainsbury's rather than a nice whole fresh fish (like the ones being served elsewhere in restaurants in the area by Loch Tay!!!). Total confusion over how many scoops of ice cream were served for dessert, junior waitress humiliated by the senior waitress at the table, when in fact the junior waitress had far better inter-action client skills. Felt as if we were an intrusion, not badly needed paying diners. Will never recommend this to anyone. No information on the history of the hotel, or the 'so called' famous Yew Tree in the churchyard that you couldn't even go in to see. Would not recommend this to anyone.

We wanted to take English friends for a scenic drive in Highland Perthshire and targeted Sunday lunch in Fortingall. We were disappointed that only sandwiches were available. Why would a hotel in a busy tourist area, adjacent to a popular tourist icon, not offer a lunch on a Sunday in August. As former Highland hotel restaurateurs, we understand that rural establishments cannot offer full service at all times but this was a missed opportunity. The disappointment was compounded when we asked if the kitchen could make a slight adjustment to a sandwich from the menu: add some chicken to a BLT focaccia to turn it into a club sandwich (a chicken-based sandwich ws a menu option). We made clear that the cost would not be the issue. But no: the was beyond the chef's ability. Too bad.

We stayed at the hotel last week for one night and we will certainly return hopefully sometime in the future,we have stayed in lots of hotels in Scotland and this was by far the best. Firstly we arrived 2 hrs early and unlike many hotels we were allowed to check in right away, the room was immaculate and the food we had that evening was outstanding as was the breakfast next morning. The staff were polite and very helpfull. This is a gem of a hotel in a beautiful location and also dog friendly, the only downside of our trip is that we could only stay for 1 night, Next time we will certainly try and stay a bit longer, thanks to all the staff and the fantastic chef for making our stay a very memorable one. thanks again.Mr Sharpe

We stayed for one night at the hotel and had dinner at the restaurant. While we liked our spacious room and the classy style of the hotel, especially the lobby and library, our experience in the restaurant had some room for improvement. Food was fine, but not outstanding. However we had to wait for a long time as our order must have been forgotten... They also forgot to serve a wine that I had ordered. They apologized several times, but we were still a bit disappointed. Fortingall itself is a pretty, well kept town which we liked a lot.

Booked here because we wanted a Scottish filet steak in traditional surroundings with real fires. It was the perfect end to our Scotland holiday as there is nowhere in Kinloch Rannoch that matches this venue anymore for ambiance and good food. We travelled with dial a bus. Food and service were excellent. Our Scottish beef steaks cooked perfectly. The menu is at top of our budget hence this was a last night treat that we all absolutely loved, will be back. The bar had local music and we looked into a packed bar joined in singing then settled back in lounge by fire, when music on get there early as bar is small and space at a premium.

The veal chop and calves liver combo was superb beautifully cooked. Asked for the hamburger rare but got it medium well, too bad. Crème brûlée with mango sorbet and short bread was a great conclusion to the meal. We ate a goats cheese starter, followed by a beef burger and a steak. All were well presented, and very tasty. Thursday evening we turned up around 7.00 to the bar and enquired about a table for dinner to be told that the restaurant was closed but we could eat in the bar. There appeared to be only 4 tables, 2 of which were in use and one by the fire reserved. We were offered a seat on the settle near the bar which we happily accepted. A fine menu was presented, not too extensive but with a good choice. Starters of smoked salmon with shrimps superbly smokey and flavoursome. Grilled goats cheese that was meltingly soft with onion marmalade and salad. Mains of lamb and venison, both cooked to perfection well seared on the outside cooked through but still a good juicy pink inside. Both served with well cooked and thoughtful accompaniments. Finished with poached pear in red wine with cranachan parfait and sticky toffee pudding. All the food was excellently served without fuss or delay. It was quiet in the bar and really like a small comfortable dinning room. Only one local called in while we there for a large whiskey and a half at the end of his working day. If there had been more drinkers in our evening may not have been quite so enjoyable. As it was we had drinks before meal and two large glasses of wine ( I suspect a bottle would have been better value) and at just over £90 a pricy bar meal but a good value excellent evening's dinning. In summary the food was superb very well cooked, well thought out and well presented.

We were a family group of 8 on holiday in Kenmore and dining on a Friday evening, and the hotel were very good at emailing all the available options and so we chose to sit in the bar, as there was to be live music starting at approximately 8.30, so we arrived for 6.30 to eat beforehand, then we had a prime spot to enjoy the live music. There is the option to eat in the fmore formal restaurant area. The staff were helpful, dogs were welcome in this bit of the hotel/bar area. The food was delicious, I had a steak, which was great, although was just over-cooked for my liking, as I like a medium rare (with some blood) but it came medium, but as it was such good quality steak, I kept my mouth shut as didn't want to upset the flow of the meal with everybody else. My starter was smoked salmon, it was delicious, however one piece of the salmon at the very corner was a little dried out, which I thought showed a slight lack of attention to detail. I would normally say something at the time, but I was so hungry and I again did not want to disrupt the meal. But it was still delicious, and not being too fussy, I ate the crispy bit anyway! These tiny annoyances were the reason for a very good rating instead of excellent. I would still go back, as it is of a high standard regardless of these, and was a special place to spend time with family in lovely surroundings. It is definitely worth leaving Kenmore to visit if this is where you are staying (there is a lack of decent places in Kenmore for very good food).

Annually, when in this historically rich and geographically beautiful valley country, we arrange things so that we eat Sunday lunch in the restaurant of the Fortingall Hotel. The village with its splendid setback manor house and street-edge cottages from the 'stable' of C R Mackintosh, the scraggly ewe, supposedly ancient - certainly sprawling with a crutch or two - and the fertile loams of the wide flood plain are excellent in themselves as context - but then the architecturally splendid dining room and the lunch itself supercede the exterior landscape and other more internal - culinary - pleasures dominate. On a recent Sunday, a very fine vegetable soup was followed by roast lamb with splendid veg and then a cheese board with Dunsyre blue at its core. A chicken or vegetarian main was also available as well as the extensive a la carte menu, while the desserts were - as I was informed by a taker - outstanding. A glass of Chablis and then a bottle of 'Chocolate Box' Shiraz by Rocland rounded off every other bite. An annual pilgrimage paid dividends yet again - and one wishes that such a lunch in such a place could be more regular. We all dream ...

We met and chatted with the chef who was lovely and the waiting staff were more than on the ball but not in your face, what more could you ask for...I would recommend this hotel to eat and will be trying the restaurant menu which looked fab before we leave too!

My husband and I spent the weekend at Fortingall Hotel and loved it. The location is outstanding and the breakfast experience superb. The service was attentive and helpful. The Yew bar attached to the hotel was quaint, country and a bit smokey due to a troublesome chimney but this added to the appeal. We stayed in the most expensive room - a birthday treat - which was lovely and spacious with stunning views. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Popped in after some time visiting the Fortingall yew & bell on a chilly damp morning. Enjoyed tea in the lounge in front of the fire. A bit pricey, but the quiet, warmth, and relaxing surroundings were well worth it. Felt very welcomed, even as a solo traveler.

Booked an evening meal for four. The bar was very welcoming with a nice log fire. We were taken into the dining room where the fire was going out. It was a bit cold. One main course was rack of lamb with sweet potato. Aske if the sweet potato could be changed for any other kind of potato. It was agreed that chips would be substituted. Unfortunately the chips were brought out first, even before the starters. They were sent back and told that they should be with the main dish. When the main dish arrived, so did the chips. The same ones, cold by this time. As it was cold in the restaurant we had coffee in the bar. Unfortunately the fire had almost gone out there too. The two members of staff that we saw were from eastern Europe and obviously had some difficulty with the language. I think some action should be taken by the management because this hotel had some potential to be a lot better.

Booked in for a Burns Night Supper, but due to weather conditions we were the only four people to turn up.This did not retract from the superb meal that followed at all, we had the exclusive services of Gavin, who made certain we were constantly provided with what appeared to be a succession on personal staff, despite being the only people there we had a full menu and wine list. Finally we were asked by Gavin if we would like to go through to the bar, where people from the village were having a musical evening, it was stunning, not least because after a few moments Gavin appeared in highland dress, and gave us a rendition of tunes on the pipes. It was one of our best meals ever and an example of service not often experienced today. We will certainly return.

Having enjoyed a long walk on a beautiful (but cold) November day we were ready for a nice hot drink when we arrived at the Fortingall Hotel. However, our hopes were dashed when we were advised the coffee machine was broken so no hot drinks were available. Given the remote location, we had no option but to have some cold drinks (served with ice!). We were very disappointed with the customer service we received and would have expected the hotel to have alternative facilities for providing hot drinks when the coffee machine is broken. A very poor first impression!

The restaurant has very good reviews but with noisy children we tried the bar instead. The food was fantastic and would highly recommend eating here.

We had a group booking, and the hotel set us up in a private dining room. The food was delicious, and only about £11 for a main course which was great value for the quality. The manager came in to welcome us, and the staff were friendly. Thoroughly recommended

Been a few time now and the food is very good, the staff seem to be eastern european with a lapse attitude and poor command of english. This is a real trun off and a great shame. I love the building and location it really is let down without a leader at the helm.

I have eaten in many of the worlds best restaurants many with Michelin stars and how this place isn't worthy of one star I do not know. We had the tasting menu. 5 courses of superb food with a local twist. Seafood bisque full of flavour and taste. Brilliantly cooked pigeon with remoulade worked surprisingly well. Pork two ways with a selection of fresh beans was a revelation.A fine selection of ripe cheeses and hone made oatcakes. And a dessert that was out of this world (and I don't usually do dessert). Superb wine pairing and excellent service. I have ran out of superlatives. Enjoy!!

We turned up out of the blue one autumn Sunday for a bar lunch at this hotel near the foot of Glen Lyon, above Aberfeldy, in a setting of mountains, forest and rich farmland, not to mention probably the oldest tree in northern Europe, the Fortingall Yew, just beside the hotel. The hotel itself is fine Edwardian baronial. The bar menu is far more interesting than the restaurant one. Front of house was amiably chaotic, but the food was far better and more interesting than we had any right to expect, and was served promptly. Everything was freshly home-cooked to good fine-dining standards, and neither of us could fault any part of the meal, which was charged at pretty reasonable bar prices (£45 for 3 courses for two people, including drinks). The atmosphere was very comfortable and welcoming, and we are seriously tempted to go back and stay at Fortingall.

An interesting tasting menu that featured local produce. Next time would try the bar menu which looked very inviting. Lovely hotel in an Arts and Crafts village. Well worth making a detour for lunch, tea or dinner.

The Fortingall Hotel's main restaurant is haute cuisine with prices to match, but you can have an excellent bar meal at reasonable prices either in the small and cosy bar or in the charming lounge--log fires in both! This is far from typical pub grub. The menu is interesting and intelligent (fish of the day was sea trout on my visit) all food freshly prepared and presented to restaurant standard, staff quick and attentive. Very good indeed.

Stylish country hotel. I prefer the bar menu, which is taken in the cosy bar with roaring fire, over the formal restaurant. Great steak pie!

Popped in here for lunch with our dog. Decent amount of choice on the lunch menu. The steak pie was steak with a pastry top, rather than the pie we expected. The omelette was tasty and the portions were large. The staff were friendly and the service was quick.

Almost 5 pounds for a cappuccino for which no order has been taken at first, for which you then have to wait more than 20 minutes, with a spoon and sugar missing and, as a highlight, a 10% service fee appears on the bill? As beautiful as it is in Gleneagles - unfortunately we didn't like it at all...

Went for lunch yesterday with my parents and dog on arrival our table was clearly marked ours and there was already a bowl of water awaiting my dog I thought this was super sweet and thoughtful, the waitress we had was brilliant with my wee Jack Russell she gave him a few biscuits and attention he loved it. Service was quick and the food as always was delicious. Lovely warm welcoming place to eat out and we always choose here when we go for lunch. Great menu lots of choice.

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.

I give up, I really do. Have stopped using the restaurant because the food is pretty poor and the staff are surly at best. This morning I wanted to purchase a food item which they have stocked for years. First young girl I asked couldn't understand what I was asking for, second one said they didn't stock it although she has served me in the past and the third one said it had sold out but they might be getting some in in a couple of weeks. Several other local people have mentioned how rude the staff were. Hospitable is not a word you can use for this place and yet years ago it used to be good on all counts.
