He had the Miso broth, it was lacking in flavor, the tofu looked like had been tipped from packet to bowl, the noodles were Al dente, brocoli was hard and burnt, the butternut squash soup was watery and the cheese scone was stale. We also had the chicken dish which was fine. We had coffee and cakes after which was all fine.

You know when you order smoked salmon for breakfast and you think you'd get a slice or two? Not here, you get a handful of unattractive cubes hidden in your luke warm scrambled egg on cold toast served on a scorching plate. For the price of expect more and better presented. Breakfast rolls look better value than the other options which feel more style over substance. And EVERY TIME someone walks passed the automatic doors to the outside, and that's about every 10 seconds, a blast of cold air comes in from outside so ask for a table well away from the doors. It's very noisy when full. Haven't been for quite a while, and now I remember why.

£34 for 4 cups of tea / coffee and 4 slabs of cake / scone / brownie. Is £8.50 fair. Yes I suppose so. Attentive staff. A clean high chair. Pacey but unobtrusive staff. Alternatives offered. Good menu knowledge. And it's a lovely spot. Decent playpark. Access down to the Loch, dog friendly in a better than normal way. Well stocked independent vibes farmshop/ deli / butcher. Felt like a less snooty Bruar and clearly popular, rightly so given the 100+ cars parked up on a fairly dreich March Sunday. Will return for sure.

It’s a beautiful location for a coffee and a shop, but nice as the coffee is, the lack of customer care is really not worth it. We came on this occasion and left to get coffee somewhere else. Unorthodox roasters has a much more pleasant atmosphere and also lovely coffee. The larder can get quite busy and whether the pressure of that makes the staff appear off hand and at times a bit rude or for whatever other reason, the atmosphere can verge on being unpleasant and spoils the view and the coffee. It could be easily fixed and it’s not all staff but overall that’s the feel of the place.

The staff in the restaurant let the place down, the food was good. There were lots of staff but lacked any coordination - youngsters just standing around. Lack of any customer service or enthusiasm. Food dumped on table for us to figure out what was what. If you nailed the service and some excitement with the staff, you’d be on a winner. For now, no desire to rush back.

We had family visiting from England and took the to the Larder and they enjoyed the shopping as well as the food we had. I had gone for a walk while they shopped and grabbed a takeaway coffee on the way back in. The cafe queue wasn’t long but it was really slow with really only one person serving. We had lunch in the restaurant and it was really good. The gap between being seated and having our order taken was a bit too long - but once done the food arrived really quickly and was excellent. We had a mix of meals - soups and Pete’s Buttie which was fantastic. Food is local and well prepared.

An uncomfortable experience this morning. When we respectfully ordered the food, there was an issue asking for an extra egg and no vegetarian haggis. We were not asking to replace items but to add one more. The waitress mentioned the kitchen doesn't want the menu to be changed at all in a stressful manner. This was not specified on the menu or by the waitress at the time of the order. The waitress said she had a hard time processing the order since the kitchen don't want any changes to the dishes on the menu at all. What should have been a simple request became an uncomfortable moment. We even suggested to cancel the order, but the waitress said it was OK and that the order was processed. We saw heated exchanges between the waitress and the cook from our table. The manager approached us too attempting to clarify the situation. We were trying to enjoy a nice morning before birthday celebrations and I have a disability. Enjoyable times for us are few and precious. What we expected to be a relaxing time, became a weird and uncomfortable experience. The breakfast arrived and the items didn't look their best. The scrambled eggs were as tough as rubber. When we went to pay they didn't even offer a refund. Over £30 for a horrible experience that I won't ever repeat again in this place. They have a lot to learn about customer care. Even though eventually they offered a refund after I have paid, we believe the way they all handled the situation from the beginning was wrong. We won't be coming here ever again for sure. Good luck if you do!

I regret not taking a photograph of the scrambled egg that was served to me so that you can see how bad it was. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. The cook must have made an extra effort to turn an egg into something this horrible. I could repair car tyre punctures with it. But how did this even get served to me? The cook must have seen how bad this was, but was happy for it to be served. The waitress could see, but still put it on the table. The thing that worries me is that if they are so casual about cooking something as simple as an egg, then how are they with food safety guidelines. I haven't even mentioned how rudely the waitress was the my wife. The was easily the weirdest, most awful breakfast experience of my life. Are we on reality TV?

Visited today with my daughters and granddaughters for lunch. Staff friendly enough, but perhaps a bit inexperienced and they came across as a bit stressed. Three of us had soup, which was lovely, as was the bread that went with it, but the chicken in the salad and the pancakes with maple syrup and bacon were obviously re-heated and quite chewy - not edible, so we didn’t eat them. The latte was lukewarm, therefore not enjoyable. Two of us had scones and they were lovely. Overall, not the best experience and we probably wouldn’t go back.

Today, I visited Loch Leven's Larder with my family and enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Greenhouse Café. It’s always great to spend time together in such a beautiful setting, but dining out comes with extra challenges for me due to my health conditions. I have to be extremely careful to ensure that no plastic comes into contact with any of my food or drinks. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly accommodating. The chef personally came out to speak with me, taking the time to understand my dietary needs and ensuring that everything was prepared safely. It’s not often that you receive such thoughtful, attentive service, and I truly appreciated their willingness to go the extra mile. The experience was fantastic—the food was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and most importantly, I felt completely at ease knowing that my needs were taken seriously. Loch Leven’s Larder really went above and beyond, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal in a caring and customer-focused environment.

Got here and sat outside with our dogs. Eventually after about 15 mins a staff member sauntered over and asked if we were wanting table service for food. Given that it was the table service area the answer was yes. He left us for 10 mins with the menu. Didn’t ask if we wanted a drink. Came back and told us the kitchen was now closed. Thing is: it wasn’t closed when we sat down and keeping us waiting was the issue. He frankly couldn’t have cared less. We won’t be back, we were basically dismissed by disinterested staff. Really not a good look to take custom for granted. Sorry we can’t revue the food, we were refused service. Please note: we arrived over an hour and a half earlier than the advertised closing time. What a wasted journey.

The food is really lovely both in the cafe and shop but the cafe and takeaway service just isn’t good enough - particularly given the prices. I hope this isn’t a case of a business thinking they can take custom for granted - the place was really busy - but people around us shared our view that we would think twice about coming back. We were there on a Sat lunchtime so we obviously expected it to be busy - we were sitting on the outside terrace as we had our dog with us. What was so disappointing was the staff in the takeaway who were just plain rude to my daughters. Couldn’t be bothered - said they just wanted to close up. The staff in the cafe told us we could order from the cafe menu then 20 minutes later said it was only takeaway - but others were being served. Such a shame.

Three of us visited for lunch on Sunday 29 December 2024 and we were given an electronic tag as there were no available tables. Our tag went off after 10/15 mins and when we went back we were told it was a mistake and there still wasn't a free table. Another 20 mins and we got a table. We looked at the menu (which was completely different from the online menu and much restricted) & all decided to have soup. We waited around 10 mins for our order to be taken and then 35 mins after our order we asked where our soups were. We decided to have coffee and cake to finish off and while we were finishing our coffees someone came to say could we hurry up as the table was required as they were so busy (we sat down at around 1300 hrs and after lots of delays it was around 1415 hrs when we were served coffee and cakes) which we thought was a bit cheeky due to the length of time we'd had to wait and the fact that it had thinned out considerably and no one was queuing to get in at 1430 hrs. We made our feelings know to the person who asked us to vacate the table and her response was "we are very busy" there's busy and then there's bad and inefficient service. We won't be back.

Adding insult to injury we were asked to vacate our table after we'd been there an hour and a half and we were halfway through our coffee and cakes. It was busy but it was obvious that they had no idea of how to manage anything. We visited Sunday 29 December. Seems they're a victim of their own success as they have lost our custom.

We've been to Loch Leven's Larder several times in the past, and although it's certainly expensive, we've enjoyed our coffee and scones in the cafe, with its lovely views. Yesterday was such a disappointment. We were on our way home from Christmas in Edinburgh, and were looking forward to stopping off here. The whole place was mobbed, but we found a table in the cafe and my husband queued for our drinks and scones. The staff simply could not keep up with demand, people were having to stand around waiting for their coffees, etc, and as some had given up and gone to sit down, the staff were then having to shout out the orders (as they didn't know who they were for), which just added to the feeling of chaotic mismanagement. There was no system in place for linking orders to people. We had a scone each - mine was so cold that it must surely have come from a freezer not long before it arrived on my plate. What's more, every plate and cup was polystyrene - we felt like we were in a not particularly good take-out cafe, but the prices definitely don't reflect that! We had to ask for a knife to spread our butter, and the cheap plastic ones eventually provided were so flimsy that they simply bent when we tried to use them. Tables were not cleared, people were having to clear them themselves and were piling everything up in the 'water station' cubicle. I went to the ladies on our way out. All of the cublicles in the toliets at the door were out of order. Only one cubicle was working in the toilets in the main restaurant. A lady queuing with me said she has never seen a full set of working loos in all the many times she has visited the Larder. I do appreciate that yesterday was a busy day, but I feel that whoever is in charge of this venue should have expected that. And I don't want to blame the cafe staff AT ALL, they were doing their very best but they were completely overwhelmed. I'm afraid that will be our last visit to the Larder. Like some other places, I think it has unfortunately become the victim of its own success.

The staff were wonderful and so helpful, answering all of our questions about the food and decor (the wallpaper is gorgeous so we asked where it was from and were directed to the exact website which was wonderful) As for the cafe seperate from the main restaurant the service wasnt so great. There seemed to be someone only stacking already stacked plates and one person left in charge of the till and cakes which just seemed to be a bit mismanaged. The cakes themselves (a cherry brookie and a cranberry/white chocolate tiffin) were amazing. Just a bit of a shame with the service. All round it was a pretty great experience and we will be back in late January for the menu change so we can try some new things!!!

And then for the woman on the till to have a really snippy attitude about it as if to say ‘why would anyone ask to split a bill’. Reality check - people do this all the time. It’s just causing you delays as folk stand at the till and manually add up from a printed receipt. You’re a service business, how about YOU add it up! And to say “it’s on the menu”. Come on. I read a menu for the food options, not for the Ts&Cs of my dining experience. Do yourselves a favour and get a new POS system. And in the meantime get yourselves a more sympathetic attitude.

Coffee, tea and service were great, but the scones (both cheese and fruit) were of poor quality (stodgy and tasteless). My wife makes far better scones!

We had a lovely lunch here today. Excellent vegetarian options (see photos) which we shared as well as lots of home baking. This was followed by some great Christmas shopping! Thank you to Murdo and the team who looked after us so nicely.

Not the cheapest in the area, but knocks Gloagburn into a cocked hat. Lovely Christmas decorations and gifts for sale. The view is wonderful over Loch Leven and the hills to the south. A lovely spot for a walk, shop and lunch.

First time visiting and wasn't disappointed. Ample parking and a nice walk round the grounds after a lovely lunch in the cafe. A well stocked shop for both food and gifts. Would highly recommend.

Cafe staff just need to say they will be with you shortly rather than totally ignore you which is frankly rude and doesn’t make you want to rush back.

Very poor service. Walked round with little dog to the covered area. Waited to be seated as per notices. Totally ignored by waiting staff. Gave up and went back to car.

Good range of items now mainly for Christmas however after looking round we decided to have a tea. Loads of the usual coffees but a cup of tea £3.25. Really a pot of boiling water and one tea bag £3.25. If that is profit then I don’t know what is and when poured out it was like hot water and milk. Never again. I should have refused but didn’t see the price until paying. 11000 PG tips catering tea bags £21.40 that’s 5p a bag dash of milk cost of hot water 10p a cup to make.

Went today 15/10/24 just a quick cuppa. They were really busy. But your staff were amazing Rebekah and the cafe managers fitted us in for my granddaughters birthday she’s 2 today. Thank you so much appreciate it so much. I’m up from Birmingham and have visited a couple of times. Always worth a visit. ☺️

Great food, attentive service and nice ambience. Renowned as somewhere foodies will like, justifiably so. Only 4 stars for service as our table were only told after we'd finished our main course that we'd have to vacate our table for a booking in 15 minutes. Better to have told us as we were seated - to set our expectations early. We had time for a coffee, but it felt rushed. An otherwise good experience tarnished slightly. 😐 UPDATE: 14/10/24 - If it's busy and you're being told a table inside will be a while, go for a tale on the deck outside if weather permits - zero wait for that today, though service wasn't speedy as only one (keen) waitress to cover a lot of tables. Great view from the deck.

We often pop in for a little breakfast on-the-go while out walking, as we live nearby. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Great location and views across to Loch Leven. Mixture of indoor and outdoor seating, depending on the weather. Highly recommend!

Over priced, Eggs Benedict , when did that come with a fried egg????. Coffee warm. You charge over the top prices, but can’t deliver the goods. Up market settings, using cooks instead of chef's. Poor quality food over rated prices.

An excellent place to meet with friends for Breakfast or Brunch on many accounts, not least the ambiance and vistas. Staff are pleasant and caring and we will return as we have done on previous occasions. One of the better places to eat.

Lovely local place to shop and get that special gift or even just your daily groceries. There is a large (free) car park outside and although the shop inside is packed with goods there is still plenty of room to move about. The day we visited was extremely busy, so busy we couldn't get a table in the cafe. We did buy some sweets for our journey home. It was fascinating watching the Baker make biscuits. The staff were polite, prompt and well presented. The prices reflected the quality of goods on sale. The star rating for food was for the sweets we bought.

Hugely disappointing. My wife and I made a reservation at the Cairns Restaurant for the Sri-Lankan Curry night event. Just a little date night. The head chef is Sri-Lankan, so despite the very low-priced set menu, we hoped for some authentic, well prepared food, good service, and a nice setting. We understood Cairns was not fine dining, and certainly were not expecting that as we knew Murrayshall Country Estate has another fine dining restaurant (Eolas). An all-around bad dining experience, but unfortunately, surprisingly so. Left at 1 hour. Good: Price. Curry flavour. Polite, attentive staff. Not great: Restaurant felt tired and lacking character. 3 different servers asked to take drinks order within 5 minutes. Food presentation was lacklustre, particularly the sides. All food came out together within 10 minutes of arrival, which made the meal feel quite hurried (suggest poppadoms and chutneys first, at least). Bad: Asked if we were finished... 30 minutes after arriving, because we stopped eating for a moment whilst enjoying some conversation. Inexcusable: Raw, inedible handmade naan breads. Extremely overcooked rice. No attempt to rectify or respond to feedback.
