Stopped here for a quick breakfast in the cafe. At the till was 'Stuart'. He is definitely not a people person, no communication, no smile, made us feel as though he was doing us a big favour by serving us. This is a very unfortunate attitude and made us feel rather unwelcome. On a positive note the food and coffee were lovely. Not sure if we will return, don't think a customer facing role suits this person.

Went on a Sunday morning, the cafe was freezing. The mini breakfast was good, all produce was great. Cappuccino not overly hot. Pot of tea was really good, you are obviously paying for the quality of the tea. Best thing is the sell Fisher and Donaldson Fudge Doughnut.

To be brutally honest service especially at the start of the meal needs to be improved slightly. We were sat then just left while others that came after us got served eventually had to call someone over. Whilst the staff are very pleasant not particularly vigilant. Saying all that food was excellent and l wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Hopefully with the staff it was just one of those days.

Unable to split a bill?? How many eateries can’t split a bill?? Are you joking? It’s 2024! And then for the woman on the till to have a really snippy attitude about it as if to say ‘why would anyone ask to split a bill’. Reality check - people do this all the time. It’s just causing you delays as folk stand at the till and manually add up from a printed receipt. You’re a service business, how about YOU add it up! And to say “it’s on the menu”. Come on. I read a menu for the food options, not for the Ts&Cs of my dining experience. Do yourselves a favour and get a new POS system. And in the meantime get yourselves a more sympathetic attitude.

Good range of items now mainly for Christmas however after looking round we decided to have a tea. Loads of the usual coffees but a cup of tea £3.25. Really a pot of boiling water and one tea bag £3.25. If that is profit then I don’t know what is and when poured out it was like hot water and milk. Never again. I should have refused but didn’t see the price until paying. 11000 PG tips catering tea bags £21.40 that’s 5p a bag dash of milk cost of hot water 10p a cup to make.

Great food, attentive service and nice ambience. Renowned as somewhere foodies will like, justifiably so. Only 4 stars for service as our table were only told after we'd finished our main course that we'd have to vacate our table for a booking in 15 minutes. Better to have told us as we were seated - to set our expectations early. We had time for a coffee, but it felt rushed. An otherwise good experience tarnished slightly. 😐 UPDATE: 14/10/24 - If it's busy and you're being told a table inside will be a while, go for a tale on the deck outside if weather permits - zero wait for that today, though service wasn't speedy as only one (keen) waitress to cover a lot of tables. Great view from the deck.

Lovely local place to shop and get that special gift or even just your daily groceries. There is a large (free) car park outside and although the shop inside is packed with goods there is still plenty of room to move about. The day we visited was extremely busy, so busy we couldn't get a table in the cafe. We did buy some sweets for our journey home. It was fascinating watching the Baker make biscuits. Initially informed the restaurant area had a waiting time of 30 minutes. Offered alternative of eating outside where we would be served sooner. We sat outside and waited for ten minutes with no staff around we became bored and cold. So we headed back inside & was informed tables inside would be available within 5 minutes. So we waited and directed to a table. We were told somebody would be over shortly. 15 minutes later a member of staff took our order. 30 minutes later our order of one toastie and one burger arrived. During the interim we were not asked if everything was ok, or of we needed anything else. A simple update on why a toastie takes so long would have been good. It is perfectly clear the staff are not working for tips, as the attention to detail is lacking. House of Bruar operates a self service restaurant, perhaps food for thought

Incredibly rude staff! Waited for coffee, chap at the desk brusquely told us to wait behind the sign without even giving us eye contact. When he had finished taking the money from customers leaving he turned and said, ‘Is it lunch?’ We said, ‘No, coffee please.’ The chap pointed and said, ‘That’s the coffee shop.’ No instruction that it might be self serve, no polite re-direction. We sat down only to then realise it was self serve. I went back to the man at the desk and said to him there was no need for hum to be rude and he could have politely explained about the coffee shop location and that it was self serve. His response- ‘I’m not going to stand here and argue with you!’ Needless to say-we left-and I will not return. Coffee and cake these days and particularly there - gives no change from just under £20, so I’ll take my 20 quid elsewhere thanks very much.

My recent visit to Loch Leven Larder was deeply disappointing. While I understand that the restaurant was busy, what unfolded during our visit was unacceptable. Upon placing our order, we were asked to pay upfront, with the staff explaining that they were experiencing issues with people leaving without paying, which we completely understood as two people who have experience in the hospitality sector. However, for the time we were there (over an hour), it became obvious that no other table during our time there was asked to pay in advance. As the only two people of colour in the restaurant, this discrepancy did not go unnoticed, and we couldn't help but feel that we were being racially profiled. The staff attempted to explain this by saying they only had two iPads, but this explanation fell flat when considering that no one else around us had the same experience. What should have been a pleasant meal turned into an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. I hope Loch Leven Larder takes steps to ensure that all customers are treated equally.

I live locally, and have eaten here often over the years. I haven't been for ages, and used to like it. Today I was with my 82 year old mum, we had to wait 1/2 hour to get seated, as it was busy. When we ordered we asked the server if she was under pressure, but she said it was actually not busy at all. There were loads of staff, and everything came really quickly, the only thing missing my soup and scone. We sat and waited, soup didn't come, my mum became impatient as if she had eaten I would be eating alone, so asked the server. Server went off, came back with soup, with a sarcastic remark that they were busy and it WAS only 10 mins we were waiting after my mum's food arrived. I felt really patronised and embarrassed, as she had intended. I have no objection to waiting for food when it is busy, I do object to food coming out at different times, and I do have objection to being ticked off by a server. A simple apology and walk away if you don't like being asked if some of the order has been forgotten. We were polite and not complaining, and have no excuse for a snippy waitress, maybe she should consider a job that doesn't involve 'hospitality'. The coffee was amazing, soup tasteless and watery, cheese scone was dry as was the frangipane tart.

We are visiting family in Kinross and the larder is always something we look forward to for lunch then a shopping trip. Not anymore…after choosing to sit outside for our meal the service was underwhelming. My mother in law had to get her own water. We also had to get our own cutlery even though it’s table service and I’m sure the price is the same. The worst issue was my teenage son finding part of a pen in his burger. We realise things happen but the way the restaurant manager dealt with the situation was more accusatory than apologetic. They replaced his burger and finally offered a refund after approaching him myself. The whole situation could have been handled a lot better by a real apology and automatic refund. We were completely put off what would have been a significant shopping trip afterwards and don’t intend to return. My in-laws are frequent customers and they will be thinking twice before returning.

Great to head down to the path towards Loch Leven to walk off lunch. The car park closes at 6pm, so any afternoon walk needs to be finished in a reasonable time before you head home. Visited twice this week. First for a birthday and second for a bike ride. On both occasions food and drinks were great. But a few members of staff (not all, some of the younger folk were super friendly) were terrible. On our first visit we had to find someone to take our order and the individual (Stuart) really could not have cared less. We got one word answers, zero eye contact and such a negative energy from him. And today, we decided to give it a second shot thinking that perhaps it was just one member of staff who was having a bad day and possibly an isolated incident? Unfortunately not. We (group of 5 cyclists) went for a post ride coffee and cake. We asked a member of staff where we could sit and were told we could sit anywhere. We made our way to the outside restaurant (table service area) only to be swiftly told by another member of staff that we had to order take away items? The gentleman then told us that we were being “passive aggressive” when we asked why we had to have take away items? Apparently this member of staff has a personal vendetta against cyclists? Very odd interactions. It’s such a shame because the food itself is lovely, you can tell the chefs put a lot of effort in. Plus the shop is fantastic! Will likely not be back, we will take business elsewhere until (hopefully) a fresh bunch of staff/management come through.

Service was terrible. Had to ask three different staff members to get someone to take our order. Scones were stale.

We came here for the vegan breakfast before doing a run around the loch. The place is fresh and modern; the staff are welcoming and helpful; the food was delicious and filling without being greasy. We will definitely be returning.

Visited friends twice in Scotland now. Been both times and would go again. Lovely food with a fantastic view of the Loch.

Stopped in for breakfast and had the full vegetarian cooked breakfast. Food was great and service was excellent. Farm shop had loads of nice things too and there is plenty parking with access to the loch walk

Popped in for a quick bite while in the area between a bit shopping and a walk up the Birks. Easily sat in one of the booths although plenty other seats available on our visit. Ordered the nachos with chilli beef to start then sticky toffee pudding. From the size of the nachos which are a starter we didn't expect the sticky toffee pudding to be as big, but we're not quitters and battled through 😁 We just had a brief visit but are back for a few days in December and would hope to visit again to try more of the beers.
