The Plaice to Be in Perth & Kinross

We had a family weekend in Pitlochry to see the Enchanted Forest. We fancied a takeaway, but to get 13 of us to agree on what we would get, we ended up getting meals from three separate restaurants. Option two was The Plaice to Be. The usual Chip Shop favourites were available, plus Burger Box and Sharing Box items. There are a limited number of gluten-free options also. Prices were on par with similar local takeaway outlets. We received our telephone order at the time arranged and enjoyed our meal

The worst food out of a fish and chip shop I have ever had 😪 The good reviews amaze me unless it has improved drastically since the summer.

Had a fish supper from here, fish was fine but chips had an extremely strange taste to them. Service was quick, price on expensive side.

Very disappointed in this usually great chip shop...has it changed hands because I've never had such an awful take away My sister and I had fish and chips...The fish was very thin and flat...it looked like it had been cooked in dirty batter...we found a black hair on the chips...we are both blonde...we tried it and it tasted disgusting we placed it in the bin...we threw away £21.00..This is definitely not the place to be...

Been to Pitlochry many times before but this is the first time we have been to the plaice to be and this will be the last time also. Coming from Peterhead I know what I am talking about when it comes to fish and also chipper fish but this must be the poorest fish supper I have ever had in my life. It stated you get two fish and when I opened the box I had one fish that was cut to make it look like two bits of fish. I felt cheated and the fish itself wasn’t great. It was paper thin and not thick like I have had in the past and the price for the goods just wasn’t worth it. I’ll never be back

I always look forward to fish supper from Plaice to Be when going to hometown Pitlochry for a treat.

Chicken fillet was out, just nuggets sold for the same price. Objections were made fun of. Chips under all guns. Hugh was way better back then. It was the last order here.

Good quality fish and chips. Our entire order freshly was cooked to order. Crispy thin batter on fresh fish, and nicely cooked tasty chips. Friendly service by the gents behind the counter, and I would go back next time in town.

Dry chips, small portions & overcooked fish. Very disappointing meal for the entire family.

This is not what good fish and chips looks or tastes like. Heavy oil flavour on the chips as well overwhelming all other flavour.

We called in to The Plaice To Be yesterday and were delighted with the choice, food and prices, and we received service with a smile, which is always nice! The veggie burger was ‘tasty’ and the chips and fish cakes were also very good. On talking to one of the locals, it seems that the new owners are doing well - good luck to them!

Nice little fish and chip shop. It is situated just off the high street.

Had fish and haggis supper. Freshly cooked food, all really nice - especially the fish, ans the chips which were crisp and fluffy. Pleasant service, would definitely recommend.

Great fish and chip supper. Large portions. Delicious fish and non-greasy chips. Would certainly go again. Only one 'big' thing missing is they don't do gravy 😔 still...

Unfortunately our dinner tonight wasn't as good as 2 years ago, we've stopped on our way from Inverness to Glasgow. Our family of 4 had fish suppers, a burger supper and chicken nugget supper. None of us are the chips which are maybe being done in older oil. The fish was acceptable but I wouldn't recommend or return again. Feels quite sad as this was so much better a couple of years ago.

This is takeaway fish and chips, primarily. The battered fish and chips is the way to go. It's so crunchy and tasty. The fish is moist. They added Malt vinegar and added extra flavor to the fish. We love this place. The Supper portion is big, three of us shared 1 order.

I had gulten free fish n chips and fried mars bar which is outstanding. I’m recommending this chip shop to everyone. It taste really nice good place

Had a really nice meal from here. Gluten free haddock in batter was great and breaded fish suppers were also excellent. Very friendly staff and good service. Would defo recommend.

We love this place! Always get courteous service when ordering & picking up food. Our adult daughter is celiac and finds it hard to get gluten-free fish & chips so when she visits us, we always try to get a take-away from here. Whether you have regular fish & chips (like my husband) or gluten-free - it's delicious either way. I now prefer mine GF too as it's lighter but, really tastes just as good. Try it!

The meal was absolutely disgusting and went into the dustbin. Black pudding was 2 slices from the butcher's, and I'm not sure what the food was cooked in, so I don't recommend

Excellent crispy fish and very tasty, chips were good too. Portion of mushy peas was small for £1.50. Only real down side was overall price

On a score from 1-10 it's a solid 1. One of the worst fish suppers I have had the misfortune to buy. Bought two small fish suppers, chips we undercooked, bland and full of ends. The fish was broken and jammed into the container. The staff were less than attentive. The lady on the salt and vinegar end was on the phone the whole time. Most of it ended up in the bin. Will definitely not be using them again.

This place has changed hands. Not for the better. Fish and chips with a portion of oinion rings. Not as crispy as before, onion rings are cooked from frozen. Requested salt and sauce got vinegar with salt and a squirt of brown sauce. Will not be going back.

I would give no stars if i could! Avoid! Left standing at the front door waiting to be served for a full 20 mins, then a guy walks in, asked if im being served, i tell him no, then the guy behind the counter asks him what he wants? Poor!

Plaice to Be Pitlochry has changed ownership and is now the place not to be! Sad after all the years of top quality food from Hugh and his team, thanks for the memories but from now it will be MacKay's.

Was looking forward to a chippy after 30 mins driving into pitlochry during a camping trip near by - only to be given the worst fish supper of my life. The fish was greasy and was definitely not fresh, I had to return to the shop to add more salt and vinegar to make it edible. The only reason I did not ask for refund was because I had to get back to friends at the campsite as it was pouring of rain. My friends food were all disgusting also and one had a sausage that was warm on one end, and cold on the other!! Worst £11 I have spent in my life. Avoid this place if your not wanting a good meal - SAVE YOUR MONEY

Terrible chip shop. Half the chips weren’t cooked properly. The fish wasn’t fresh and sausage was definitely undercooked! Also pricey!! Won’t be back.

Been here several times over the years. It used to have fantastic fish and chips. I assume new owners have recently taken over as it’s nowhere near the quality it once was. Fish now comes in 2 pieces and the chips are very hard. Young male waiter behind the counter also rude with no manners. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t return.

Great fish and chips crispy batter and chips 2 pieces of fish got lemon as well dontnormally get lemon so a nice change good value excellent service and friendly staff

Tasty take away fish and chips with a decent selection. Not the cheapest, but very good quality. The queuing area is small and cramped, best to wait outside. There is a small selection of gluten free options.

Got a white pudding supper not good quality pudding and very greasy not an award winning chippy in my opinion

Disgusting food dripping in grease absolutely tasteless. Staff particularly one male was extremely rude. I would avoid this shop.

Wasn't impressed. The practice not to be. "Award winning fish and chips" not sure if they stole the sign from another shop. Male member of staff was rude and doubted whether I'd put money in the bucket for cutlery made me feel uneasy. Advertised salad but don't actually sell it. Swimming in oil and curry sauce was cold. Fish was tastless.

Have reviewed this elsewhere but had tp put it here as well. Arrived quite late but not really near closing time and ordered 2 fish suppers. Myself and another customer were told where to stand in quite a brusque manner. Food came really quickly but what a disappointment. Fish was greasy and fairly tasteless and the chips were overdone and hard. Don't think I have ever left more than half a fish and chips portion before but couldn't eat it. Neither could my wife. I'm just here for the weekend but won't be back. Have resorted to Jaffa cakes out of Co-op

Friendly staff and good service but let down by soggy/sticky batter on the fish, which had stuck to the chips by the time I reached the car. Chips were good, chunky and cooked to perfection.

The cod fillet was very lovely. Crispy outside and tender inside, also fresh. We finished the cod in 5 minutes. I would give a 4.8/5 :) The onion rings were the most delicious onion rings I've ever had. It is a bit oily, yes, but very tasty. I'd give a 5/5 especially on a cold day. Enjoyed every bite.

I’m English and the chips here beat every chippy I’ve had south of the border. The people there gave friendly and quick service to hungry tourists!

Great to find a fish and chip shop that caterers for my son who’s coeliac. Don’t often find a fish place that you can walk in without having to pre ordering a day or more before hand that is gluten free. Very tasty and reasonably priced. If we holiday here again will definitely return!!

This was a regular stop for afternoon drinks. They had a great selection of beers. The staff were awesome, hardworking, and polite.

Absolutely brilliant chip shop. A bit expensive and portions don’t look huge compared to home. But it was the best fish & chips you will have.

Went for a takeaway service was shocking even to the point they were discriminatory towards were my wife came form even tho we have lived in Scotland for 20 plus year couldn't believe it !!!!

Staying in Pitlochry 2 days we were stunned by the high prices in the restaurants around. Thank heavens for this local chippy that provides great food at sensible prices (see pics). We had food from here both evenings and enjoyed everything we had (haddock, smoked sausage, spring rolls and chips). Service was very friendly and very efficient. Lovely park up the road to enjoy your food in. Definitely recommended.

Back every week for a fish supper. Oh, and for the chat of course. Some don't care for the latter, but hey, suits me fine. The fish is fresh and crumbly and the chips are crisp. What's not to like?

Geweldige glutenvrije fish&chips! Mijn vrouw heeft coeliakie en kan daarom nooit Fish and Chips eten. We zijn speciaal 2 uur om gereden om hier te eten. Het was heerlijk! Super friet, super friet en belangrijkste geen gluten klachten. Volgende meer rijden we weer om.

Took a chance against some of the reviews here. Went to find out for ourselves. Best fish and chips for an age, everything freshly cooked, not greasy and very tasty, staff were friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit
