Forteys in South Derbyshire

I visit Fortey’s regularly- What a lovely place to eat and be sociable, the staff (owners) have always been extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. As for the ridiculous review placed by Samaneh Esfandyari - I hope people overlook that - as it is NOT an accurate representation- I was there at the time and she has clearly forgotten that the staff looked after the elderly gentleman whilst she parked her car ( that surely was helpful ??), he was quite capable of going up the stairs with help and as for Service charge - there is no service charge !! We all have to pay VAT for services provided!! I would recommend she go back to London and sit in a crammed / smog ridden and expensive cafe if that’s what she’s used to - quite the opposite of Fortey’s in Melbourne!!

Toilets upstairs, at least you have to go up more than 10 staires. It is not suitable for the disabled person. When you ask some questions the way they answer the tone is rude, you can't continue. Food is so expensive to eat there. They add more than 20% on every item even on tea and coffee. When I asked they said you pay taxes and our services. Why should we pay taxes to you? Why should we pay service charges? This shop much expensive than coffee shop in London

I love Forteys ❤️❤️ It really is an absolutely beautiful place to have a coffee and catch up with friends. They have a real sun trap courtyard garden which is delightful and a lovely friendly approach to each customer. Always my place of choice when meeting up for coffee with a friend.

Called in for a quick pot if tea & cake. The selection on offer was good & very tasty. Got to sit in the courtyard out the back. Keep up the good work.

Called in on the basis of reviews we had seen on trip adviser. We were not disappointed. The sandwiches and cakes were excellent. Fresh and tasty. The owners were very welcoming. One of the best cafes we have come across for quite a while.

Cannot quite believe it's taken me twenty-four years to discover that this is here, so close by! The people are lovely, and the hot chocolate? Oh, good Lord, it was to die for! Thanks for having me!

We were visiting Melbourne and decided to visit Forteys for a coffee and a snack. We received a lovely warm welcome from the owners and thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and food. Would certainly recommend to other visitors to Melbourne. As well as their cafe, they also have a great selection of breads (we purchased some sour dough) and also gifts and cards.

Greet you like old friends as soon as you walk in the door, very warm and welcoming establishment! Wheelchair friendly! Delicious coffee, alternative milk available! I had an oat milk latte, and it was hands down one of the best ones I've had when out and about, easily in my top 3! Selection of cakes/slices. There is not a huge vegan selection, but what is available is very tasty! Fresh loaves available to buy as well.

Travelling through Melbourne from West Midlands we decided to stop off for a bite to eat and leg stretch. Found free car parking, walked round corner and saw Forteys on main high street. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a friendly couple and an abundance of cakes, pastries and sandwiches, which all looked absolutely lovely, it was a tough choice. What we ordered was delicious, my daughter even commented that the cake was the best she'd ever tasted. It is truly a little gem. Thank you Forteys !

Coffee and cake/snacks 1st class

We have visited Forteys three times now for coffee and cake (or earl grey and the same) three times after great walks around Melbourne. The owners are always super friendly, the service is quick and the food and drinks are delicious. Now summer is finally here we can sit outside in the little courtyard at the back too.

Nice coffee and a bun in a beautiful village. Nice and bright with a couple of tables in the garden. Nice art on the walls, they also sell ice cream and bread.

I visit Forteys most days for my 'coffee fix' and its always a pleasure to get great coffee and a very friendly welcoming from the owners. It's also perfect when my partners grandchildren are visiting to get 'proper' old school sweets.

I called in here just before closing and the staff were very friendly and helpful in advising upon places to have an evening meal over the Easter weekend. A relaxing and comfortable restaurant with very good food right in the centre of the village.

The best oat cappuccino I have ever had by a long way 😊 lovely, friendly staff and delicious food. I have now visited 3 times with different friends/family and look forward to coming back again. Thank you Forteys!

Really friendly staff here, the choice of cakes and food was fantastic and the hot drinks were really good too! Cosy little place and loved the shop at the front selling all sorts of things - very much recommend visiting!

Lovely coffee shop with selection of bakery items to take away. Sells sweets and non food gifts. Worth a visit for the coffee and cakes and a loaf of bread to take away.

Popped in for takeaway coffee abs was not disappointed. Lovely couple behind the counter who clearly knew how to make a good coffee. Everyone else who called appeared to be a regular which is always the sign of a good coffee house !

Had a lovely capachino. My friend had a latte made with oat milk. Would recommend. Cakes on offer too...will indulge next time. Friendly service 😃

Although not allowed to sit in at the moment because of lockdown restrictions I am even more amazed at how enjoyable it is just dropping in for a take out coffee & piece of cake. Always a smile behind the counter as a super latte or hot chocolate is prepared. Top marks Forteys. Hope it all works out for you both. Regards Julian.

I went to the coffee shop on my own for my first visit yesterday and coffee was fab. I returned only today with my mother and son who is 3 and was really disappointed with not the coffee but felt the owners were rather rude asking me where I had come from as sat upstairs in the wrong seat as couldn’t find the garden area. It was almost like they didn’t want us in there and although my son is young I did feel like they didn’t want him in there. Shame a lovely coffee but didn’t like how I was treated so won’t return again. Shame as like to support such business at this time.

Coffee good, cakes are pleasant. The only reason I'm deducting one star, is for the lack of atmosphere, as in much as the owners could do with a bit more interaction. They didn't speak once to each other and to a outsider you'd think the couple had a argument before opening. Also not much interaction with the guests. Maybe a one off, so ill update on my return.

Super friendly private local business run by Richard & Laura. Homemade fudge and an absolutely delightful slice of carrot cake complimented my latte today (19/9). The inside venue has well distanced tables and also has a small outside garden area with several tables. Products are all of very high quality and the shop also has a vast selection of sweets and chocolates. Highly recommended if you’re passing through Melbourne Derbyshire.

First visit to Forteays, friendly staff, you cant beat a good cup of tea and rum n raisin fudge, looking forward to my next visit.

stopped here for a welcomed coffee cake and savory pie service was first class social distancing was at the forefront would certainly recommend this to anyone wishing to stop and have something to eat and drink

The treacle tarts and the raspberry & coconut tarts are very tasty, and always service with a smile 🙂

This is a lovely place to visit. Welcoming owners, bright, lovely atmosphere. Bacon ciabatta - the best I've ever had - really tasty bacon, proper ciabatta and nice sauce to go with it Good coffee Hambleton cakes, pastries and savouries as well - lovely We drive 30 mins to visit - well worth the trip And Melbourne is a nice village to visit as well

Love this place, it’s a place we visit often on our way into the office. Richard and Laura are always gracious hosts and put their hearts and souls in to the business, care and detail are always evident. Our days are often started with a cup of their gorgeous coffee. We often call in for lunch, now the menu isn’t big but my word what is on offer is delicious, with the added temptation of cakes and artisan breads to choose from, yummy! In all, well worth a visit, if you are in Melbourne call in and say Mark sent me.

I happened upon this place when I was in need of a cup of coffee and I'm so glad I went in. The place is spotless and the coffee excellent. I didn't try any food but it did look delicious. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Comfortable and peaceful when I went today.

Found this place today! Coffee was fantastic along with the cake. Great selection of cakes and retro sweets. Sold Bluebells ice cream too! Great supporting local business. Friendly staff and lovely place Would recommend another visit

Great find. Sat in the window watching the world go by. Cremated tea cake and two crumpets both with lashings of butter. Four coffees and a small try of liquorish fudge. All most enjoyable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will go again

As of February 1st, Laura and Richard have moved across the road to much extended new premises.All new look seating area and counter, with the same good tea and coffee, plus great fudge to take home to the family. Deep sponge cakes are on offer, as are a few pastries. A loyalty card is in operation here. Digital payment possible also. Just the job for Melbourne's High Street / Market Place as this venue provides the perfect meeting place for friends and visitors to the area too..Very highly recommended.Thank you for continuing to provide that lovely cup of tea.

Well located in the centre of Melbourne, South Derbyshire and highly recommended for great service and excellent coffee. (Plus a traditional sweets & locally made ice cream if preferred!). Richard, Laura and Will are always friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. We normally sit upstairs where it is great to watch the world go by but there are normally tables available downstairs if preferred. Light pastries & delicious cake keeps my wife happy where as I prefer the lovely Flat Whites & the tasty locally made biscuits! Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Melbourne! ( PS - I nearly forgot to mention the homemade fudge thy make on site - yum!)
