We came in for a meal. Food was absolutely delicious and freshly prepared. Lucy and Mike are fantastic managers who take the time out to talk to us. We have visited this pub more times since Lucy and Mike have arrived then what we have ever done in the 12yrs we have lived in the village. We very much enjoy coming in and having a good laugh with a few drinks and excellent food.

Had a great meal in a lovely atmosphere and spent time chatting with the landlord and landlady. They're only new to the venue which comes with its own challenges but bit by bit They're turning it around with positive ideas for the future. The chef prepares all food from fresh and with his experience from top London restaurants is bound to continue to satisfy all culinary demands including Vegan.

WELL what a blessing the new owners are to the village pub. Our business moved to the village 3 years ago in which time the pub has had its fair share of landlords and many ups and downs….. mainly downs as far as the food was concerned. Boring bland and beige WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE. 6 of us ate there tonight everyone of us had something different and every single starter and main were delicious. Reasonably priced with good sized tasty portions. Absolutely delighted it’s finally got some decent owners. And somewhere we can take our clients to!! Staff were very friendly oh and they accept dogs 😁

We decided to give this place a go now the pub has new management. We arrived at 12.20 roughly to find doors closed and lights out . We about turned to go to car park only to be called back by a lad in a wooly hat to say they were open. On entry we asked him about menu for food , he told us there was no food today , about turn again to be chased again hold on the chef's turned up . We decided we would give them a chance. We went back and ordered a drink , was asked if my wife wanted to drink a J20 orange out of the bottle , she is 67 , the pub was cold but I agree the weather has been terrible . Must admit the food was ok but £10.95 for a sandwich with a few chips little overpriced. I wish the couple all the best but I will not be back.

Not impressed. 6 of us went for a birthday lunch, no starter, no desert and small portions at large portion prices. The roast chicken was more like chicken breast and the beef over cooked, the steak burgers weren't steak, more cheap lookalikes. The fire couldn't be fired up so the bar was cold. On a positive note, the guiness was well served!

We haven't been to the Fortescue for quite a while and now it is under new management with a new menu we thought we would try it. We went on a Friday so it was buy one get one free on fish and chips. Great you can't go wrong with that so we thought. The order came the fish was frozen the chips good on them they had used proper potatoes not frozen but oh boy they were limp greasy and not very nice. We we that hungry we ate them. When the waitress came she asked how our meal was, when we told her that it was very greasy and it looked as though she thought it was a compliment so we are not sure it got passed on. Also the dinning room was cold there was no heating on in it the fire was going but not warming where we were sitting. There was also a lack of staff on. There was also a no condiments on the tables. The place needs to close for a complete overhaul it's a shame as it was a great put with fantastic food when we first moved into the village. Sorry but we won't be going back there for a long time and then if we do it definitely won't be for the food.

This pub has sadly gone downhill. The menu is lacking and not the same one on the website. Seems to have new ish owners who cater for drunks more than dinner guests. The food is just about edible. The steaks were overcooked, no steak knives offered and came with chips and salad, not the peas and mushrooms stated on the menu. The chicken burger was very dry and overcooked and came with fries when the menu stated triple cooked chips. Feel sorry for the young waitresses who appear to be poorly trained. Would not recommend a visit to this pub unless for a drink. Will not be returning unless under new management.

Went for a pre booked meal with friends. Huge queue at the bar and only one person serving; a bit of a wait but it was a warm evening and a little busy. Eventually shown to our table. Lovely, pleasant waitress who took our order in good time. A bit of a wait again but no problem. Good first courses. Second course was reasonable for our friends but I’d asked for a medium rare steak. It was cremated! No one came back to see if we were ok so I just ate it otherwise everyone would have finished. It was tasty and the peppercorn sauce helped with the cremation!! Afterwards I did tell the waitress when she cleared away- no apology, no offer of informing the chef. Not sure if I’d go back. Prices fair, food fair.

Went out for tea with 4 family members. Had starters then a waitress informed us that there would be a little wait for our mains as there was a party of 12 booked in at the same time as us. An hour later our mains came out. The quality of the food was really good but the portion sizes were very small and not worth the price charged. We were then informed that if we had desserts it would be about half hour before we got them as the other party had just ordered. We had been there about 2.5 hrs by then so didn’t order any more. We made our views known to the staff whilst there and left. We were all still hungry and ended up calling at McDonald’s on the way home for food.

We went on a last minute date night for a meal after work,Ordered pie of the day and the hanging kebab. We waited just under an hour for the main meal, as table next to us had starters and mains before ours. The pie was nice but was wife no vegetables or gravy, I've eaten alot better value for money pies that came with an abundance of veg and gravy. The kebab was very underwhelming it was bland, overcooked to the point of being as dry as the Sahara and definitely not value for money at £15. There was 3 bits of beef and chicken and the rest was made up of vegetables , plain rice and oven wedges .Overall we was disappointed with the service during the long wait for the meal, and the poor quality of food. This was our second visit, the first time was fine but I haven't got a clue what's gone wrong now.

Returned to one of our favourite pubs for a meal, what a disappointment. We were not impressed when “large fish and chips” turned out to be a regular sized piece of what I am sure was frozen battered fish and frozen chips. Although local to us we hadn't been here for many many years due to previous poor experiences. It has changed hands at least twice since then so thought we would try a Friday lunchtime. There was a warm welcome from the gentleman behind the bar who, after quickly serving our drinks order, found us a table despite the bar/restaurant area being quite busy. The waitress (who we later found was called Bridie) arrived to take our order and was not just efficient and pleasant but genuinely seemed to be enjoying her job. She clearly explained the different menu options and left us to consider our choices. Returning at just the right time she took our order which was then delivered with the same good humour. The food, Chicken Liver paté starter followed by Fish and Chips for me plus Pie of the day for my partner were all excellent - although I would have liked the option of mushy peas rather than garden. During the meal, both Bridie and her colleague checked we were happy with our meals and seemed to genuinely care. We will definitely be going back and could not believe how much better it was than before.

We live only 5 minutes away, this could be our local, but after numerous experiences with different owners, it's like banging your head up against the wall. I booked on line... as advised... and turned up to a less then busy restaurant "early evening" to be told the restaurant was fully booked and the on line booking service "must have failed again". But luckily we could sit on our own in the back near the bandit. The 16 year old girl, apologising did her best to keep repeating sorry when I said no thanks. Every cloud and that, we walked to the Plough at Horbling and had a great meal so their loss. I can't comment on this weeks chef at the Fortescue but I can say the Lager'was S@@t.

However, what made our meal exceptional was the bar staff, Bridie. She managed to serve several tables food and drink, bring food from the kitchen, serve customers at two bars, clear and clean tables and be attentive to all the customers. All this with a cheerful smile and unhurried demeanour. Whatever the management is paying her needs doubling! One of the best front of house servers I have seen. Thank you.

We had a friendly welcome and great service in this 16th Century inn. The floors are uneven, the beams and fireplaces keep catching your eye, wondering how many people over the centuries have eaten in this very spot.

In the area and thought would try this former favourite again. Very busy shows how popular it is once again. Starters were good, mains disappointing- vegetables cool and overcooked. The beers on offer do not tally with the Blackboard. Staff very helpful, friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. Lovely very old building with good parking.

We did a local walk on a beautiful Sunday morning, and on our return we found ourselves in need of refreshments, so we called in and asked if we could dine as we hadn't made a booking, and we were cordially greeted (think her name was Keeley) and asked to sit where we liked. We ordered a bottle of Blass chardonnay, priced at £17, and I asked if we could have 2 glasses of water to accompany this, whilst perusing the 2 menus. I opted for the Portobello and halloumi burger, priced at £12.25, and my partner had the gammon steak at £11.95. Both portions were of a good size, well presented and tasted great. We couldn't manage a dessert, although there was a good selection to chose from. A pub which exudes character through its many original features and that extends a warm welcome. We will return.

A very warm and cozy pub with open fires and lovely staff. Very impressed with the food. Just a point though think the waitress should have a notepad as the young lady forgot my coffee completely, not a problem and will be back.

The wife and I were visiting our friends who live in Billingborough. They told us that The Fortescue Arms had re-opened with new owners,so we visited easter saturday. It was lovely to find the place was back to its former glory from days gone by. Excellent food at a reasonable price, the staff were attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended for everyone, couples, families with children. Well worth a visit.

My husband and I called in on the off chance. We were greeted by lovely staff and shown to a table by the window. This is a lovely pub, with olde world vibe about it. Stone walls, low ceilings and beams and big fireplaces that were lit, because even though it was sunny outside it was cold. We were shown the menus one which included 2 courses for 9.95.this is what we chose. I had cheesy baked mushrooms with artisan bread. Omg it was delicious. I could've sat with just a big bowl of that. My husband had mixed olives as he was having the dessert. They to were full of flavour. I had scampi, chips and peas, again delicious and the homemade chips were cooked to perfection. Hubby had the chicken escalope which again was cooked to perfection. He finished it off with warm chocolate fudge cake and ice cream. Great choice of drinks, wines, whisky and gin. Lovely attentive staff who were friendly but not too imposing. Special thanks to Bridie who looked after us very well. I have already recommended the fortescue arms to people and can't wait to return again.

Thanks to Carol and Nigel the owners who have really kicked started this place back to a great coutry pub...offering a delightful menu and home cooked food. The choice is varied from a wide choice of menu, to a specials board and also allowing for those on a budget to dine on the special offer promotions too !!... Caters for everyone and very accomadating to suit your needs. A clean and relaxing environment within a cosy setting (log fire) and a seperate bar. Sadly, The Rose has closed down, and is now all boarded up. There had been a "For Sale" notice last month, but even this has gone. From a local resident.

Stayed here when visiting friends. As you will see from the photographs, it is very poorly kept. There was a very large spider when we arrived and the person who booked us in was less than friendly. Food was okay although no breakfast was provided. Would not recommend this place at all. Heating also went on the blink so we were brought an electric heater until they could fix the boiler. Money needs to be spent here urgently.

Popped in on a Sunday to try their sunday lunch . Will definitely go back . Lots of veg , choice of beef or pork. Other dishes available on their chalkboard including vegetarian. Service was very good . Please give it a go , you won't be disappointed. Also , the bar has a great choice of ales which are in great nick.

The food and the hospitality were great, the steak was to die for and I would have given it 5 stars, however having been shopping at Tesco and found out the bottle of wine we had was on sale at £8.50, to have been charged £38.00! was just too much over the top. It’s a shame as it has soured the experience.
