Not a massive selection of hot foods available here but was perfectly adequate as a snack stop. Bacon Rolls were amazing though, just not a huge selection for teens and puckish youngsters!

Over priced, underwhelming would sum it up. However not surprised by their lack of encouragement to make any improvement due to it being the only option (or so we thought as we did later see a Costa banner and were sad we didn’t know sooner). Confused by their pricing. £5 for soup and a bit of bread, and the soup was very bland and uninspiring. Staff seemed uninterested.

This still working Fort is well worth the visit and the place is huge with plenty to see but when you need some food and drink the Cafe within the Fort does not disappoint. Not very big but comfortable and their is seating outside which is handy for Dog owners. Their Bacon Bap is formidable and very tasty whilst the ladies ha=d Toasted-Teacakes with their tea. Service is very good with friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

I usually tend not to frequent the cafes or restaurants at attractions mainly as time does not always allow, but given the remote location of Fort George and a yummy menu I could not let the opportunity pass me by. The cafe’s location within Fort George is quite hidden. However, it provides an excellent shelter as the wind and weather can be quite intense there regardless of the time of year. The selection on offer was really very good and above what I would have expected from an establishment as this. The sandwiches in particular were a step above and the soups are perfect for the location not to mention a mean cup of tea and yummy slices of cake or flapjacks. It also gives you a good opportunity to listen further to the audio guide etc as you eat. The cafe itself is well presented and full of atmosphere. This is one attraction cafe I would suggest you factor in as part of your trip.

If you are hungry, thirsty and need a rest this little cafe hits the spot. As far as we know this is the only place for something to eat and drink in the fort. You can find something there to satisfy most everyone.

Called in for a snack and had the soup with bread and a coffee, the soup was very nice ( i always think you get a good soup in Scotland) no complaints with the coffee either so all in all it was all up to my standards. There is also another place here and I believe you can get meals but I haven’t tried it so I can’t give you a review. Worth a try even if it’s only for the soup.

The cafe is in the old buildings and has several picnic benches outside in the rather soulless courtyard. It wasn’t busy and we were served coffees by two very nice young people. On a chilly day at The Fort decided to go in for a cuppa to heat up. Explained to the lovely lady that we had left our Scottish heritage cards at home but the lovely chap at reception had looked us ups and we got our discount. The aroma of the soup made us change our mind. Lovely carrot and coriander soup with a chunk of bread. Yes it was a wee bit more pricey but that’s what you expect in places like these. Lovely friendly staff and spotlessly clean. Also a toilet if needed. Nice benches outside for when it is warmer.

We had a fantastic trip to Fort George this week but the cafe was a real let down which is a shame and unusual for Historic Scotland. It was far too small and people had to stand to eat which given the price of the food and for people with young kids isn’t ideal. The Fort George site is huge with lots of buildings, there must be a better location!

Piacevole sosta all'interno del Forte

Visited this cafe today. The food was very nice and you do get a big pot of tea. The bakery goods did look nice but we didn't have any. We asked for Stromboli and were given a look as though we were speaking in a foreign tongue (we are Scottish!!). As it is on the menu we were slightly surprised. The other lady then asked if we needed milk with our tea and the milk jug was duly slapped down on the tray and she gave us the total due without a "please" or "thank you". It wasn't busy when we were there and there was no attempt to tidy the tables and chairs. Maybe we got them on a bad day, but it did spoil our experience there.

The café is in the north, north east of the Fort. It sells soups sandwiches and bakery products. So the stock isn’t massive, but it will have no through traffic and only cater for the visitors. The prices were the first thing that shocked me. £2.20 for Lockerbie cheese and ham or several others, which you could have had with Scottish made produce. The value for quantity was outstanding. Dark almost Rye bread was fresh and the lentil soup was homemade and tasty also. Just the thing for a cold / wet day. The café overall is really good value and a true taste of Scottish fayre for the many foreign visitors.
