None of the beers including Guinness was available - Something wrong with their system which couldn't be corrected while we were there. Most expensive soft drinks outside of London , almost £4:00 for a cordial and soda water.

Just had one of the most tasty meals you could ask for.. top marks to Mad Frank's for the outstanding food and service all at a really reasonable price - the pub is a traditional pub with a good selection of ales etc and a live band to top the evening off....we'll definitely return 👌

Phoned up and booked a table for the England vs France game - very accommodating and a lovely little pub with open fire. Half time came and the barmaid brought round sandwich’s and sausage rolls even though we hadn’t ordered anything. Will be returning for a roast next time 👍🏻 thanks, Chris and the 5 others 😁

My friends and I had a delicious Sunday roast today in this charming and very friendly country pub. Apparently they had no chef and landlady Karen did the cooking! All I can say is she did an amazing job as we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. And the nut roast was a definite hit!

This is a lovely, traditional village pub with a very welcoming landlady. My husband and I feel lucky that we stumbled across this gem when we were staying in the village. They offer a range of cask ales - a bonus for my husband. It's such a comfortable place to relax, drink and chat - a welcome change to up-market wine bars, which we find intimidating. We were about to leave after our first drink but the landlady called us over and introduced us to a couple of the locals. We ended up staying until closing time and had a really good night. We'll definitely be back!

Run down and grubby would normally be enough to eliminate a pub, but waiting 2.5 hours for a chicken Sunday roast is unacceptable. Ot was all that was available at skirt notice and now we now why. Our group of six just up and left … the owner stood at the bar holding court and didn’t bother to apologise for the lacklustre service. We went into Ongar and got seven tasty starters within 15 minutes at the wine bar there. It was 4 pm by this time so we didn’t bother with a full meal and were totally satisfied. To be fair, the sole waitress seemed Overwhelmed but that’s still no excuse for not being able to put out 20 covers in three hours (the table that did get served has been there for three hours). What we did get were three disgusting starters - mozzarella sticks which tasted straight out of Iceland. Nachos which tasted like they had been covered in tinned mince and “squid” which was equally unappealing. The fourth was a pate which was surprisingly edible. Some plates to eat it off might have been a nice touch and when I asked for a couple of plates, that’s exactly what we got - a couple - for six. This pub epitomises what bad British pubs are all about. Stuck in the 70s with no sense of customer service and horrible food - the sort that gave Britain its reputation as the worst place to eat (except we shed that circa 1990 …not here though). God help them if they ever have to cater something with more than 20 covers in a day.

We love the dog and pickle. We went for thier legendary roast and left full to the brim. They get booked up well in advance and you understand why when you taste thier food. Im looking forward to the festive period where its decorated to perfection

Called here with a view to lunch to find it is now (end Aug) a smart looking Tandoori/Curry restaurant. We weren't looking for a curry lunch so did not stop.
