Went to the restaurant as a groups of friends. A little hard to find the way in. It has the feel of an old club hall and bar. The young staff that were in were so polite and attentive. The food was delicious. I have roast beef with a massive Yorkshire pudding and amazing roast potatoes. The beefs seemed a little processed but still tasty. First place I have been to in ages that served enough gravy, sticky and tasty. Friends had chicken and peppercorn which they loved. Very lovely relaxing lunch

Fish’n’chips on a Friday night is absolutely top notch. Themed Saturday nights, steak night and Valentines were superb.

We keep coming back as the food is ok and it’s easier than cooking it at home with all the cleaning up that follows. It’s superb value for money too. BUT!! The guy serving the food makes me feel so uncomfortable and really lets down the hard work of everyone else. Today, he didn’t even ask us what we wanted, simply stared at us and waited for us to ask for the meat. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. He seems to be the one in charge (I know he isn’t) - why is no one holding this guy to account? Bad management seems to be the only answer. Maybe I’m wrong...

We were recommended the carvery at Forest Hills golf club and it didn't disappoint. When you have to park in the overflow car park you know you're not going to be dining alone. And so it proved with the dining room packed with other locals who know when they're on to a good thing. The three course Sunday carvery is only £14. That gets you a choice of starters (I had the melon, my wife had pate) followed by a choice of roast and all the trimmings. And if you've got any room left after that then you can indulge with one of the delicious desserts. I'm a sucker for profiteroles so went for them whilst my wife polished off a large slice of chocolate cake. Great food and great value. We only wish we had somewhere as good near where we live.

We had the carvery today. Service: the chef serving the meat was rude - this has unfortunately been our experience during previous visits. I’m really surprised that he’s still working here as I know of other complaints and I’ve seen negative comments on here too. It’s as if the staff and regular customers at Forest Hills just accept that this is how he is. He talks far too much leaving customers waiting needlessly in the queue; he engages in unprofessional conversations as if he’s down the pub with his mates; the amount of meat you are given seems to depend on whether you know him. The waiting staff are clearly poorly trained. They are low in confidence and just don’t know how to react to customers. They constantly ask the older woman (possibly some kind of manager/supervisor) how much things cost or how to use the till and what to do. This lack of training is clearly unfair on these young people. Food: the peas and broccoli were clearly over cooked - but I get that you’re preparing food according to your regular client base which is quite elderly in nature. The potatoes are not roasted but clearly cooked in a deep-fat-fryer. Other than this the meal was very nice. I heard someone trying to pay for just one course at the bar which really confused the young man serving behind the bar. We had wondered about this ourselves. You must make it clearer on your menu that you do not offer a one course option. It is against consumer rights to ask people to pay for two courses if they’ve chosen to have just one course - if this is not made 100% clear in your literature. Management/leadership: this seems to be totally lacking. The older woman is maybe in charge in some capacity as all the younger waiting staff constantly ask her what they should be doing. She simply needs some training in 1. How to lead a team and 2. Professionalism in a customer-facing workplace. If you believe in your staff then you should properly invest in them with good training. If you believe you’re already doing this then you are mistaken.

Went for a Father's Day Lunch and it was very enjoyable. Carvary was to a good standard and there was a vegetarian option. The choice was beef, pork or turkey and all were cooked very well and delicious. The vegetarian option was tasty but the portion size was a tad small. The service was faultless and we all enjoyed the meal. Good value but 50p for a shot of lime juice seems excessive. Like General Macarther, " We will return".

Booked at short notice, very pleased a table was available. Ordered wine at bar, small but good range at sensible prices. Sat at table near bar and ordered starters, again not a large choice, but all good. Vegetarian main ordered at same time. Starters arrived quickly. Cleared quickly when finished. Vegetarian main available and held at carvery - freshly cooked pancake stuffed with mushrooms, spinach and I think recotta, covered in sauce and grilled. Vegetarian gravy offered and selected. My beef (2 or 3 other choices available)was very good with a good selection of fresh vegetables. Again no delay in clearing plates when finished - equally we were not rushed. Large choice of puddings (and cheese and biscuits) offered. Good quality. Very easy to see why they are busy with the quality of food, value for money and attentive waiting. Looking forward to visiting again

The carvery meal was good, the service was quick and unobtrusively attentive, especially to Grandad, efficiently dealing with his diet and even managing to produce an ad hoc " birthday cake" and candle as a fun surprise for the birthday girl at his request. All in all a pleasant relaxed meal in a quiet and unpretentious venue --- and not expensive.

Sunday lunch.Meat ok, roast potatoes deep fried HORRIBLE, cabbage bland watery and horrible colour, when complaint made was basically told there were other options eg boiled potatoes and different veg if I didn't want the cabbage, I did but not looking the way it did. Go to Toby Carvery better value, proper roast potatoes and lovely veg.

Very disappointed- either I am expecting too much or others are willing to accept rubbish. We are a group of 5 men on their annual 'Jolly Boys' experience. We first tried the evening meal-ie we had burgers, fish and chips and lasagne IE STADARD PUB FARE THAT ANYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET RIGHT. I would describe all as average to poor. Obviously micro-waved lasagne and burger would have been sent back at McDonalds. Pricey and NOT RECOMMENDED. Beer OK but expensive.Against my better judgement we returned for the £9.95 cooked breakfast-OH DEAR!!!! In this day and age you expect decent local produce -what you got was one mass produced pink sausage(awful), one rasher of bacon, one egg, a soggy hash brown and a mushroom. TRULY PATHETIC. You could have as much toast, cereal, juice etc but it was all value level and the fruit was tinned. The toaster was not capable of keeping up with demand. I had to ask for more coffee-not acceptable. UNLESS DESPERATE AVOID. Over priced and the staff need to visit a local BandB to realise what is acceptable. THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN TODAYS MARKET.

This review will be divided into two sections -one covering the restaurant and the other the self-catering farmhouse on site. We were a group of 5 chaps on our annual Jolly Boys outing. The evening meal was a disappointment. The Lasagna was clearly bulk prepared and micro-waved. The fish was not fresh but was described as OK. I can't remember my meal so it must have been poor.Service OK as was the beer but simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.We also had the breakfast - this was laughable! The full English consisted of 1 rasher of bacon, one processed sausage, one egg and a hash brown(soggy). You could have unlimited toast, cereal etc but when you have got one toaster and 50 guests it was not satisfactory. The staff did NOT ask if we wanted a refill. All in all a poor experienced and we did not return. Suggest management pays a visit to a decent Band B and see what to do.How the golfers put up with this standard of food is beyond me.We had 2 of the self catering cottages -overall they we fine if a little tired around the edges. The beds were awful though- cheap coil spring jobs. the furniture in the farmhouse was unacceptable-one sofa had collapsed and one of the chairs had a broken leg. However the size of the place was impressive and the bed rooms were huge. Good showers BUT mouldy along the edges.Parking good and a good central location.Staff pleasant and helpful.

We visited the carvery the day after my sisters wedding at the golf club and I can highly rate the food served here. The staff service I found a little slow but in all fairness it was extremely busy the time we arrived. The staff cannot do enough for you and are so warm and friendly. Thankyou.

On arrival we were told someone else had taken our table. The lady behind the bar did apologise and put two other tables together to accommodate our party of 7. There was no menu on the table, I had to request one and we then waited 10 minutes for a waitress to take our order. We waited at the carvery for 5 minutes with no sign of the chef. Yet again I had to ask and the barmaid went in search of him. Finally an assistant chef appeared, telling us that the chef had been told he had customers waiting but had sent the assistant instead. Obviously couldn't be bothered, have found his attitude questionable in the past. Plates extremely hot, we would have asked for help but staff were thin on the ground. Overall, not an experience we intend to repeat any time soon.

We came here for a family and friends wake for my late uncle and I must admit the refreshments were wonderful. There was a huge selection of sandwiches and cakes/biscuits and tea and coffee. I think to be truthful the tea and coffee could have been hotter as nothing better than a piping hot drink. However, the lady in charge of our room was very very friendly and accommodating. The bar was open if anyone required another drink, which a few did.Whilst we were there for a wake reception, the atmosphere and room were very pleasant. I would recommend this for a reception of this sort but unfortunately cannot comment on the actual carvery restaurant.

Me and my partner had heard a lot of good things about this place but we were not impressed at all!!The service was terrible which includes not being asked if we wanted a drink or if our food was ok. We were not even greeted when we walked through the door as the waitresses were to busy having their own little conversation. We then waited 5 minutes for the chef to get back to the carvery as he was to busy talking ( told this by a waiter ) and when he did turn up he started telling us a very horrible story which would upset some people if had gone through this themselves!!I did tell the waitresses about these issues and wrote forest hills a email Monday morning which I'm still waiting a response.

We went to the carvery a few weeks ago and had a lovely meal. The food is amazing and cooked very well. The Service was a let down. My Partner waited 15-20 mins to be served a drink after eating his lunch. The bar lady was over with some other customers having a chat and holding a baby. My sister also waited. The waitress ( too young to serve us) had to make a phone call to someone, so they could come and serve my partner,She could see he was waiting too long. My sister did email Forest hills and they sent her a voucher. I also emailed them and got a very short appology the reply I got was "if your from the same family as sarah ( I think they mean't my sister, although that's not her name" maybe you should share her voucher. My sister was more than happy to share it,so we took another trip this Sunday. My second visit was a nightmare. To cut it short, I was given a very hot plate to put my food on. I also had a plate for my daughter. When getting the food, there is nowhere to put the plate down so you have to do everything one handed. My main concern was the gravy. I poured some on to my daughters plate and it ran off ( the plates are tiny) onto my middle finger, it instanlty melted my skin. I was in agnoy and couldn't use that hand to eat with so I had to cut my food with one hand. I was given ice but it didn't help. Eventually my brother in law could see how much pain I was in and asked for some burn cream. Although it was partly my fault I split the gravy off the tiny pate, it should never have been hot enough to melt my skin. Im left with a painful blister. I did feel like sending another email but I was worried I would get a disheartening reply like last time.I would like to go back as the food is great but I feel the service lets the place down.

This was a very good experience for my family. Upon entering a well decorated and presented room you were welcomed by a member of staff who served you with Bucks Fizz and took you to your table. The menu, known to us in advance, was good and therefore service was prompt throughout the visit. The 5 courses were excellent and staff very attendative. Highly recommended.

We had the pleasure of eating our Xmas day meal at Forest Hills in a party of 10 - & it was very good. Bubbles on arrival, the starters served at table followed by champagne sorbet, & then we were asked to go & get our carver when there was no queue. The meat was lovely, soft & beautifully cooked, the yorkshires were great & all the staff were friendly & helpful. Pud was then served at the table, followed by coffee/tea & mince pies - which we were too full to eat - every plate was empty. Thanks for working Xmas day so we could relax - & a very nice meal it was too.

My husband and I tried to get tea and cake yesterday afternoon. I am disabled and struggled into the garden to be met by a very unhelpful man who simply said 'its lunch' in response to my husband's polite query! When he enquired further, the response was: 'I'll get you a menu but if you just want tea, there's a tea bar over the road!' Needless to say we didn't bother or wait for the menu! Proprietor should remember it's the customers that keep businesses like this going and respond appropriately! Like another reviewer comments: Bring a packed lunch and enjoy the riverside beauty!!! The person we encountered was really rude and unhelpful!

Been before and was disappointed , left it a while hoping things had improved but sadly still very poor quality. The fish was thin inside the batter, and had zero flavour . No flaking or creaminess to the fish at all just tasted of nothing really. Not a big chip fan anyway but had a small scoop but they turned out to be dried out brittle short what we used to call scrumps and were normally thrown out . But anyway they served them and charged handsomely for them . Needless to say they went straight into the bin . Most disappointed as it used to be top notch , with nice lemon wedge and paper wrapped . Now the carbon wastage via cardboard boxes and paper and plastic is diabolical . Sadly won't bother anymore , but good luck anyway. Cheers Fred

Very welcoming, accepts dogs, good English food, very reasonably priced and lovely service. Inside it’s a bit worn down and dated but didn’t bother us as it had everything we wanted.
